Windrift I wouldn't know, ego-death for me was a rather pleasant experience. I'm assuming you have gone through it though?
Sadly not. My experience in that particular realm is mostly scholarly and second-hand, though I'm taking steps to correct that.
And I personally would probably consider it pleasant myself, but people to tend to cling to what they know, and people like to think they know themselves. ;P

Neat-o. ^-^ Like what? Buddhism?
People also like to say they know many things they do not. Like all those little thermodynamics scientists working to develop an equation for the laws of conservation of mass and energy blissfully unaware of the big ball of burning gas above them disproving the very theory they were trying so hard to prove. Or all those annoying people who toss out Einstein's equation left and right trying to act smart, knowing what it means but never truly comprehending or understanding it. If you ever even brought up Quantum field theory to most people saying ghosts and whatnot can't exist they'd just stare because their teeny ingrown personality wouldn't be able to wrap around anything more complex than the clumsy concrete blocks society today has laid out for us.
...I sound harsh/conceited sometimes. ._.;

Buddhism, psychoactives, transcendental meditation, some forms of yoga, freefall, traumatic events... There are a lot of things that can cause the ego to dissolve for a time, and I've at least briefly studied them all.
Ha, I know what you mean. Personally, I always take the view of the open-minded skeptic. I don't reject that things are possible, I just question by what mechanisms they can occur. razz

Freefall? D: What's that?
Ah, same route I took here until my first few spiritual encounters and milestone in the psi. x) Seems to be the safest one, anyways. xP

2012...the year that everybody is wondering about...the Mayan Calendar finally ends in 2012. As much as I would like to say that something major would happen...I don't feel that it is. I agree that something along the lines of the astral plane merging is going to happen...but I don't think it'll be noticed by many...at least not until later. If any barriers were to fall...theoretically things have already been put in place to make sure that no really really horrible bad ones fall. Then again...barriers that fall that aren't really really horrible bad aren't always good either. I'm going out on a limb here...but I think that what's going to happen on December 21st 2012 is going to be something akin to a cosmic battle. Not very many people look up at the sky and notice that it's starting to look like the Aurora Borealis in places it shouldn't be. Even fewer know the reason for it. Something's gonna happen...people may notice, they may not but nonetheless sooner or later everyone's going to notice. Bah am I making sense? Continuing the Insanity -Kiti-

Tad-bit, though I don't know much about the magical community. Maybe you're right, maybe your not. ._. Sounds neat though. ^^

Freefall as in, you know. Falling. Freely.
Like when you're skydiving from a very great height, allowing you a decent amount of time before you pull your parachute. That's actually been known to cause ego-death on rare occassions.

Ohh..I don't see how the actual falling can cause ego-death though. =| Maybe it's one of those "My entire life flashed before my eyes" kinda things?

2012:
The planes will merge. Those who can adapt will be fine.
But like what was being said, there will be those who will excercise their powers beyond their means and cause death.
Those who are already at terms with their spirituality and have guides, psy basics, etcetra should be fine.
There are plenty of well disciplined people who already can manipulate things with the astral. These people will be depended upon until everyone else catches up.
Spirits will become men. In the simplest of language. Stacia is fearful, she knows that the storm will be in the form of people excercising themselves with their own egotistical methods.
She isn't weak, but she's a healer in the astral plane as opposed to anything else. Though, she does predict the future very easily for spirits, but not for men. She can heal anyone without any problems, I think this power will be brought down to men as well.
Which leads me to theory:
What are you best at within the astral?

Screwed because a lot of the stuff I do is mostly subconcious and I have no knowledge of it...saved because of my guide and my wonderful teachers o.O Being all jumbled up is looking to not be a good thing... Kinda weirds me out.. ._. But in a good way. x) I've really only ever been good at offensive kinds of psi abilities..What'll that make me good for other than some kind of potential harbinger of destruction?
You're lucky you have teachers. DX *Currently has this guild and nothing else*

...I wouldn't say I was so lucky in having teachers....It's only recently that I've been able to be fully taught as opposed to mostly teaching myself to listen to what they say and go from there xD Then again...if they had taught me like they were supposed to instead of making me work for it...in my mind I'd be a sub-par student 'cause I'd take everything for granted...I love my teachers but sometimes a girl gets tired of being able to say "I told you so!" Don't worry about not being on the offensive side of things. It's the defensive that will be most important.
Just keep practicing making barriers and such, and stay connected with your guides. Your guides will be close on that day if everything does fall as they should. I'm aware of many who are trying to prevent such a thing from happening.
I'm pretty sure it's inevitable at this point.

But I said that I am on the offensive side of things. It's the defensive that I suck so badly at. =( Or were you referring to someone else? >.<
