Rinoa Heartily Vice Captain
|
Posted: Tue Apr 14, 2009 4:03 pm
Rinoa walks outside and looks around. She knows that there are things that need her attention around the house but in light of recent events she is very disinclined to tend to them. She simply starts wandering down the road, not really heading anywhere in particular. She has things that absolutely have to be taken care of later, but right now, she just wants to get out of the house, away from all the memories. She continues through the middle of town and on passed the outskirts of town. Before she realizes how far she's gone she finds herself in the middle of a field, and quite close to large oak tree. Looking up its trunk and into the leafy branches she gets a very small smile on her face and she begins to climb the great tree. Making it up a good distance, she finally decides the branch she's on gives her a decent view of the pasture and it seems to be plenty sturdy and she takes a seat.

As Rinoa walked out of her house, Zejx shifted his shinigami from to invisible. He began to follow her, using his Flash Step ability to hop from rooftop to rooftop. As they came to the field, he hopped down to the ground and stayed 30 feet behind her. Close enough in case someone decided to attack for her father's actions, but far enough to keep her from sensing his presence. Or so he hoped. As she climbed up the tree, he slowly approached. Zejx took his katana off his back and laid it on the ground. After confirming she wasn't going to fall, he sat down and leaned against the tree. Keeping one hand on his blade, he remained there, watching over her.

Rinoa sighs heavily, swinging her feet back and forth, trying to keep her mind off her father but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't get away from it. She kept on thinking over the situation time and time again, remembering the look on Johnathan's face when he told her what had happened and the feeling of her stomach, heart, and practically everything else just dropping to her feet. "Why did you have to get involved with what was going on? What did you stand to gain from intervening?..." She was quiet a moment before she nodded her head slightly. "I guess that's to be expected from him, but why did it have to be him? Why couldn't someone else have stepped in instead?" This time she shakes her head and pounds the bottom of her fist into the tree branch "Why does NO ONE in this town, in this damn country have the courage to stand up to them?! "Tears begin running down her face as she continues "Why was my father the only one who could do the right thing? And how could he have stood tall, all alone in that fight while others could only stand idle and WATCH as the one true hero in this town was overwhelmed?" She cries for a moment longer before her eyes go from despair to determination.
With a deep breath she pushes off from the branch she had been perched upon and drops several feet towards the ground, catching herself in mid air telekineticly and begins to fly off just above the ground back towards town. How can I sit here and do nothing while I criticize others for doing the exact same thing. I'll make things right even if I have to stand singularly against them, just as Father did...

Lore wakes up inside a simple room in an inn he had found last night after his strange encounter with a man dressed in black. He goes through his morning routine and heads outside afterward getting a bite to eat for breakfast on the way. While he munches on the last bit of a biscuit from his breakfast he begins to wander about the town and finds a nice square with a fountain in the center. He goes over and sits down on a bench near the fountain and watches the people go by always keeping an eye on the Sezarian soldiers, and saying a friendly hello to people that greet him.

Why couldn't someone else have stepped in instead? That hit Zejx pretty hard. He wished he would have been there to help. Then maybe her father would have survived. Why was my father the only one who could do the right thing? And how could he have stood tall, all alone in that fight while others could only stand idle and WATCH as the one true hero in this town was overwhelmed? At that point, Zejx was dieing to just tell her everything. It was bad enough he blamed himself for not being there, now he was listening to Rinoa blaming him... in a way. He would have done something. He wanted to do the right thing. He could have. He wanted to just take on the town of soldiers and teach them all a lesson, but he knew it wouldn't be the smart thing to do. There were more soldiers to this army that weren't in the town. If he did such a thing, the town would be destroyed by the weeks end.
As Rinoa flew off, Zejx stood up. "I'm sorry..." After a moment, he focused enough spirit energy into his feet so he could stand on air. Doing that, he began to use his flash step to follow in the air.

Lore reaches out with his magical senses and doesn't find anything unusual with anyone near him in the town just the usual pulses of spirit and magic, when he feels a sudden spike in power, not someone fighting just someone focusing their power. He actually almost missed it in the background of things it wasn't really that big of a spike but just enough go over the natural hum, but now focusing on it he could feel the persons unique energy moving toward the town.
Hmm it's probably just someone catching themselves after falling out of a tree. I hope it isn't trouble.
Lore gets up and walks in the direction of the power signature. His teal rabbit hops along beside him as they make their way toward the edge of town.
Lets just hope that it isn't trouble. Yes that is the last thing we need.

As her mind continues to race he speed picks up steadily until she's at the equivalent of a full blow sprint. She touches down on the ground when she reaches the outskirts of town but she barely slows any when her light frame starts to work in anger. She stops outside the tavern and takes a moment to catch her breath before going in, doing the best she can to act calm.
As she enters her eyes cast a glance about to either side of the room and manages to tally up about nine soldiers in total of the fifteen or twenty people in the bar. She goes up to the bar and flags down the bartender. She orders a shot of liquor and a bit of smoked pork. When the bartender comes back with her request she pulls out a silver piece and makes sure it catches his eye. She slaps it onto the counter under her hand and slide it forward. She looks to either side of her to make sure that are no soldiers in ear shot and asks quietly. "Out of the soldiers here which one leaves last, or late and alone?"
The bartender looks over the crowd and points to a gentleman slowly enjoying his flagon of beer and relaxing in his chair. He was indeed alone at the table but it didn't appear to bother him in the least. Looking over her shoulder briefly she spots the man that was singled out in the crowd and with a nod to the bartender she lets go of her coin and with a big smile the bartender greatfully takes it.
Occasionally ordering another shot Rinoa stays in the bar and keeps tabs on the gentleman, slowly wasting away his earnings in the tavern. She relocates from the bar to a table with a better view and studies him for a while. She spends several hours of the day watching this man and waiting to see if anyone approaches him, only to find out that this man is left completely alone, making her wonder about who he really is. Every once in a while she starts getting the feeling that this man may be the wrong person to target, for one reason or another.
While she sat she studied and tried to compair his uniform with the others but to her frustration nothing significant really stood out about him, he appeared to be an average soldier, no one really of note. What could that mean?

Ryu staggers out into the living room and looks around. With a heavy sigh he goes about getting himself prepared for the day, breakfast, cleaning up, washing up and getting dressed. He finally wanders outside and into the street. There were a few things that needed to be picked up, certain food items for both himself and Rinoa as well as for the live stock.

Zejx followed Rinoa to the tavern. Should he follow inside or wait outside? What was she doing here? As far as he knew, she wasn't a big fan of drinking. Especially at a place full of the enemy. After some thought, he decided it would probably be best for him to go inside, but not to become visible. It would be easier to find out what was going on if he wasn't seen. So he entered the tavern. A few people looked to the door as it opened, but it looked like it was just the wind and they went back to their business. He decided to sit at an empty table away from Rinoa, but where he was still able to watch her.

Lore wanders around and stops at a spot on the outskirts of town where the signature's residual energy stops.
Hmm.
He examines the ground and notices that there is a footprint on the ground, but none back the way the person who made the footprint should have come. Also the ground is stirred up as though someone was moving at a running pace. Lore smiles to himself as he stands up and follows the tracks into town which get lost amidst the busy people of the town's footprints.
Well I guess the old fashioned way works for a while, but I can't sense where the person has gone without them using something to track. Or for that matter even their specific energy signature amidst all these people. Well at least I can't do something without attracting attention.
Well then I guess there isn't much else we can do today.
True and our room is close by I think its time to call it a day. I'd better go by myself though, don't want to attract any more attention to myself. It's bad enough I had people looking at me strangely all day because of you.
Whatever, I am tired anyway.
Lore goes a nearby alley and Carbuncle does a backflip and vanishes. He then heads back to the inn he was staying at and walks inside, he orders some dinner and something to drink then takes his food to a table near the window and eats his dinner.

The night draws out and the soldier that Rinoa is watching never gets up, he just conintues to order drinks and sit in solitude. As closing time nears she slips out the front door and steps off to the side of the road, out of immidiate sight. After a little time passes Rinoa's target walks out of the bar stretching and starts walking off in the opposite direction.
Focusing a little she lifts herself up off the ground and beings following the man quietly, she wanted to get out of site of others. A few turns and the time was perfect. As the man walks by an empty ally way he's suddenly thrown into it, sending him to the rocky ground. A cloth immidately followed, wrapping about the mans head and then finally a swift strike from an unknown object to the back of the mans head knocks him out cold.
Visibly Rinoa wasn't involved in any of it until she rounds the corner, lifts him up and takes him to the her barn. Gathering a hooded lantern, rope, and the fire poker from by the fire place she strings the man upside down and binds both his ankles and wrists. She gets everything ready before taking a bucket of water and lifting it up to dunk his head in for a moment, holding it until the man begins to move. She lowers the bucket and then steps behind the hooded lantern so only the light shines on her hostage.
Dazed eyes dart around the room trying to understand thier surroundings, before he fully composes himself a board is struck acrossed his face followed by a gruff voice "Who was responsible for Michael Everhardts murder!"

Varaxis spots Rinoa's actions from the roof he's perched on and can't help but smile. He quietly beings following the young woman all the way into the barn. He finds himself a spot in the loft to watch from, this was really shaping up quite nicely. Now to sit back and watch the show... twisted

Zejx was already on the roof of the tavern when Rinoa came outside. As she performed her deeds, he followed on the rooftops. He had to force himself to not intervene and stop her. He would see where this went first, then decide if he should do anything.
He followed to the barn. As she began to tie the man up, Zejx was about to step in. Then... he noticed. Something he should have noticed before. He had put all his attention on Rinoa. A big mistake. Now, they were not alone. Focusing to keep himself invisible, Zejx floated up to the top of the barn. He spotted the stranger on the loft. Should he question the man? Should he warn Rinoa? After a bit of thought, he decided to just let things play out. Maybe he could find out the motive of this stranger. He hated the idea of using her a bait, but he had to see what was going on.

Rinoa's 'guest' grunted when he was struck and then groaned afterwords trying to get himself into focus. Wha-.... what the hells going on?
His response was not handled lightly, the board strikes the man again and she repeats herself "Who is responsible for the murder of Michael Everhardt! The man who was executed two days ago damn it!"
This time the man curses and spits out blood "Who? I don't know of any murder, and why am I being questioned? I didn't kill anyone!" He struggles a little in his ropes, still disoriented.
Rinoa grits her teeth "Don't play the fool, you're with the military, the very same military who killed Michael Everhardt, so I know you know who I'm talking about!" The board raises once more and stays poised to strike as though a warning for him to chose his next words carefully.
A growl raises up from the mans through as he shouts "I'm telling you I don't know whats going on, I wasn't even here two days ago, I got in yesterday and I just started active duty here today, you've got the wrong man damn you!"
The board strikes again but she doesn't continue with her interrogation just yet. After a short pause the board is flung across the barn and the poker is lifted up. "I don't believe your telling me the truth... This poker though I think will do just the job i need it to with a little help from my lantern...." She puts the tip of the poker into the lantern flame and continues "you've got just a few moments before I decide to start burning some of your flesh, if I were you I'd use that time to start telling me what I want to know!"
As time goes by the man simply grits his teeth and stares at the poker in the flame, he looks like he's debating something until the poker comes out of the fire and begins to aim for his body. "Where do I want to start first? Should I go for the goods right away..." the point of the poker starts raising upwards from the mans chin to chest, chest to stomach and beyond "or should I be nice and show you how serious I am about getting this information first before I break you... " The poker lowers back down.
Slowly the tip starts creeping forward heading for the mans shoulder and though he struggles to get away from it, it does him little good. "ALRIGHT! FINE, here's the gods honest truth, I'm not really with the military, I'm not one of the soldiers, I'm a spy from Maulin, surely you've heard of it. It's just down the road that leads south out of town a day and a half hike. They heard of what was going on up here and in a few other towns and wanted to see of themselves so they send a hand full of men out to gather information to protect themselves should the Sezarian Empire decide to lay hold to us. What I told you before was the truth I have barely been here two days, I haven't found out anything yet, all the soldiers look at me as a green horn and won't trust me with any information. Look if you want I can help you find the information your looking for but right now I just don't have it!"
Rinoa obviously looks surprised to the others in the room but her prisoner can't tell due to the glare of the lamp in his eyes. She's quiet for a long moment before she finally puts down the poker. Her voice takes a much more peaceful tone and she askes "How do I know I can trust you?"

Okay, the board was one thing. He could stand for that. But the fire poker? No, that was going too far. He wasn't going to allow Rinoa to get her hands dirty. He readied himself to jump in the way when... The man spilled the beans. A spy? So, there were others who were watching the soldiers here. This would definitely be something he should report. But not at the moment. He would wait and see this all the way through. There was still a chance Rinoa might not believe him. If that were the case... He would have to step in.
