Actually, purchasing the Corvette C6 would be no less practical than it is daily driving the 350Z. Fuel consumption is, either way, taxing on your wallet. With the way I drive, my Z usually returns 13.5 miles to the gallon. I'm sure that with the Corvette, it would in fact turn out to be less fuel efficient, but I doubt it'd be a drastic change. I don't think that I'd be dealing with any MPG numbers lower than 11 and, considering the 100 horsepower gain over my VQ35, I'd be more than willing to sacrifice a couple gallons here and there. As far as tires go, my Z has larger tires than a stock Corvette as is. With my current wheel and tire setup, I pay close to a thousand dollars every time I need rubber. That'd stay the same with the Corvette, so long as I can resist the urge to upgrade to 325s. From an enthusiast's standpoint alone, it's absolutely illogical that I haven't made the switch to the C6 yet.

After all, I can afford it, and it's what the driver in me wants to do. However, the reason I haven't done it yet and the reason that, inevitably, I probably won't do it at all is this. As some of you may know, my fiancee is going to school in Texas. I live in New York. I'm currently studying to become a professor of English and language arts, which means that I'll need a master's degree in the area of English. After that, I'll move on to a graduate school and pursue my Ed.D (doctorate of education.) Recently, we've been researching it and it turns out that I'd benefit from getting my master's degree at her school; not only does it further my education, but I can be with her instead of having to live so far away.

So, because of this situation, buying a Corvette SHOULD be the last thing on my mind. After all, it'll be hard enough to keep my Z, what with having to take out a student loan and live in an apartment supported only by the student loan and nothing else. Buying the Corvette would entail having to finance another $6,000 to $7,000.

My parents are against me going to Texas for school, for their own reasons. So, they refuse to support me financially. However, they've agreed that if I waited a year and went to school at a nearby university first, they'd support me financially. If I wait two years, my father says, he'll pay off the loan on my Z and allow me to pay him back for it when I'm done with school. That way, I could have it while I'm going to school in TX. But then, two years is a vast amount of time. I don't feel prepared to wait that long; it feels unproductive. So, I'm in the process of trying to convince my father to pay off my loan within a year, instead of two.

And that is why my head should be in other places than my nearby Corvette dealership. It doesn't mean it always is, but hey, that's just the enthusiast in me. If I were to stay here for the two years, though, I'd definitely go out and buy the Vette.

I won't be teaching in Texas, only getting my master's degree. I'm not certain what state we'll end up settling in, but it likely won't be New York. I don't like it here whatsoever; it's a sports car enthusiast's least favorite place to be.
