Well, I can help with any information from the FFVII describing the events of the ancient war. Both luckily and unluckily, most of the details are fuzzy, thus requiring more effort, but allowing more creativity. From what I've seen, my knowlege of the FFVII backstory is second only to strawberrieicecream. So, what do you need? Oh, yeah, I can kinda draw okay, so I may be able to add in some crap in that field as well

xd I dunno, but maybe some of Aeris' and Ifalna's ancestors. Or maybe Ifalna? How long do cetra live anyway? I think she was a pureblood ancient.

Yeah, I think you're right.
But... oh, crap, now I'm confused. How long ago did all this happen again? I was just thinking we could manage a kind of Atlantis-like thing, except backwards. Make Ifalna a child in Fall of the Cetra, even though it was X decades/centuries ago. I guess she'd have to be somehow important, to have managed to survive that long.

stare So are you two trying to say that Ifalna lived for about 2000 years? *points to the first post*
Anyways, I think the cetra should have a long lifespan. How's a couple hundred years sound to you guys?

I never said Ifalna in specific. I said an ancestor. And that lifespan sounds good. So how old is starting age? Like, the equivilent of, oh, whatever you want the hero's age.

How's a couple hundred years sound to you guys? *Looks at the first post.* neutral *Slaps forehead.* Shaddup! gonk A couple hundred years sounds about right. That's what I was thinking anyway. Didn't know that the original Jenova thingie happened so long ago. sweatdrop

I'm baack... ninja
I'm glad you made a place on Gaia for me to come to Sabaal.
As for the age of the ancients I would say about 250 to 350 years. 3nodding
If you want a female character feel free to use my old submission for the original fangame. wink

sabaal Methinks this has the potential to be a great spin-off game. biggrin I wonder... does anyone know how widespread the Cetra's civilization was? Were there just a few settlements here and there, or did they have cities and governments? I'm sure they said something in the game, but my notoriously poor memory is acting up on me again. I'm sure they would of had some sort of government since they seem to have had cities and obvioulsy some sort of religion too since they had a temple and all...
Also, I would have expected them to have a monarcy government judging by their level of technology and religion.

Kaydah ... Oh, and you remember that 'Redbreed' character someone else came up with (I don't recall who.)? I was thinking that it could make a brief appearance. *cough*possiblebossfight*cough* I came up with the redbreed character, and am still toiling over a name for him. I don't like the idea of him being used as an evail character though... sad sabaal ... Okay, okay, I need to know right now what kind of gameplay we're going for. Standard FFVII ATB system, or chess-style strategy, or what? I would like to see the regular ATB system, I'm really poor at strategy games myself... sweatdrop sabaal ... Maybe you can help out with characters a bit. I'm fresh out of ideas, too. sweatdrop Maybe... just maybe... How about we divide the ancients into kingdoms, one for each element, and once they learn about the Jenova crisis they send out a Knight (Main Character) from the main kingdom to gather warriors from the other lands... Hrmm... maybe not, it sounds kinda cliche...
Or..
When Jenova attacks, it kills all of a city's Knights or warriors or whatever, excpet for one person, a really low class knight who everyone thinks is a bit of a loser (kinda like Cloud) (May even be a descentent of Cloud *Hrmm.... nice... yes... ninja *). This person would then be burdened with the quest of saving thier world, and would pick up random adventurers on the way.Kaydah So how did they seal Jenova? Why weren't the WEAPONs used? And how was the world saved? To seal Jenova, I would expect that they used some sort of powerful sealing spell.
I believe the reason the WEAPONs weren't used was because they would have destroyed the Ancients along with Jenova. Since they were created from the planet to protect the planet, I would think that the planet would purge itself to start over. Sort of like wiping your Harddrive to get rid of some nasty virus.
As for how the world was saved... Well, I would presume that when Jenova was stopped most of the problems would end.

sabaal Oh, wow, I didn't even think of this until now... if Materia is the knowledge of the Ancients (who are the Cetra), then the Cetra would have natrual magic, wouldn't they? biggrin Perhaps, rather than aligning groups with certain summons, they should be aligned with elements. That would dictate where and how they live, what magic they're best with, and which summons they are able to use. I guess the most powerful summon for each element would fill in the guardian position in each clan. Phoenix, Alexander, etc. Of course, that means some summons would have to be borrowed from other FF games... If that didn't sound too coherent, it's because I wrote it while watching Naruto. sweatdrop This is touching back on my suggestion of natural magic absorbed from materia that I gave for the previous game. 3nodding
I agree with the elemental thing, but I think you have broken it down too much. Here is what I think.
Elemental List: Earth Air/Lightning Fire Water/Ice Holy Dark
Summons List and Elemental Class: Choco/Mog :: ? Shiva :: Water Ifrit :: Fire Ramuh :: Air Titan :: Earth Odin :: Dark Kjata :: ? Bahamut :: Fire Alexander :: Holy Neo Bahamut :: ? Leviathan :: Water Pheonix :: Fire Hades :: Dark Bahamut Zero :: ? Typhoon :: Air Knights of the Round :: Holy
I agree with the summons from other games as well, if people could make other lists, it would help. 3nodding

Woah, way to make an entrance, Sei. xd No way in hell I'm going to quote all that, but I find that, as usual, they all seem to be solid ideas. Three things: I'm thinking of kind of a cross between your first and second story ideas. Rather than sending out a single knight to gather other warriors, warriors from various kingdoms are summoned to a massive army. But Player, for some reason, ends up being late. Lucky for him, since Jenova attacks and slaughters the army while they're still in the city. By the time Player gets there, things are in ruins. Do we know enough about Cloud's past to draw a clear line between him and one of his ancestors? Or do we have some room to make things up? wink Strike the ATB and tactical battle systems. I have a better idea that I'm going to experiment with for a while. 3nodding

Well, I do like the idea of crossing the storylines, you do have to admit that that first one really sounded kinda pathetic. xp
Clouds past is really foggy, they say nothing in the game about his history, all you know is that he has no father; he's missing somewhere, or even dead... The point is, that no one knows who or where he is.
*Interesting side point on that; My friend and I usually have Cloud's father as a descentent of the Cetra Royal Family. It helps explain the abscence of Cloud's father, and explain Cloud's power. (The things I do in my spare time) wink *
The other idea that just floated up into my brain:
Why don't we align the main character with the Holy element, and have them achieve a sort of angelic state throughout the game, so at the end they use their new power to use that really powerful sealing spell I was talking about earlier. This would be why I would use a female character, they just seem to portray angelicness better than male characters.
I dunno, it's just something that popped into my head... but it seems nice.
ANYWAYS!! (Geez I just keep going don't I? neutral )
My point is, that we do have room to make things up.
*Dies from not breathing* xp
