I don't eat meat. But I don't care if anyone else does. Like I prepare dinner for my family and it's chicken but I don't eat it. People don't try to gross me out with meat and I'm not criticized or insulted because I don't. No one really cares. One of my best friends is a vegetarian. So it's good hanging with her. But really I don't care. I don't care about animals I just don't like meat. I hate that some people care for the lives of animals more than the lives of human.
Last year in my algy II class, My teacher, my peers and I had a discussion about whether a dying baby was more sad or a dying kitten. Almost everyone in my class said the the kitten. Besides like the teacher, three people and me. That made me so mad.

Besides like the teacher, three people and me. That made me so mad. However, humans ARE animals. And humans are creatures that judge according to what's on a person's outside. We can talk about "it's the the inside that counts", but that's all bullshit. Our instinct tells us that a healthy exterior signifies good health, and our sense of esthetics tells us that beauty is good s**t. And let's face it. Human babies are ugly. Damn, they're hideous. Ugly lumps of hairless skin with grotesque proportions... They puke and pee and s**t all over the place, and they're loud. Damn, they're loud. And there's like a billion of 'em. I like cats better, so I vote for the kitten. Poor kitten... People tend to think I'm mad because I judge all life equally. I don't kill ANY animals or plants I'm not going to eat. I don't even kill gnats or wasps or anything like that. They're natural; they're doing what they're made to do; they don't hurt anyone out of cruelty or hate. Humans, we go against our nature, we destroy the earth, we slaughter thousands out of greed and fear... How are we better than the smallest ant? If anything, we are the scum of the Earth, and I actually view human life as inferior to that of most animal species. But I don't judge, and I don't hurt either one.

Kino D Ha ha ha ha, I have to say, I find this thread rather fun. Not eat anything with a face? Not consume conscious beings? Did you know that for every step you take, you crush more than two hundred tiny creatures? That an average person will swallow hundreds of insects during his/her lifetime, without even being aware of it? Humans are ANIMALS, animals with a sense of abstracts. Animals kills each other for food, and they always have, and they alway will. Sympathy doesn't make the food chain go around - animals eating each other makes the world go round. Plants, you say? Plants are living beings, just like animals. They don't have a consicousness, but they pulsate with life, they grow, they spread, they die, they get eaten, they eat. Or if the 'consciousness' part is so imprtant, what about eating braindead animals? Is it okay to kill a vegetable patient in a hospital, because he's braindead and not sentinent like us? What about eggs, then? They're not even pollinated and has no living creature growing inside them. Animal cruelty is wrong, and the way some farms treats their animals is abominable, but then, why not buy ecological meat? Or let's look at it from another direction. If everyone stopped eating meat... What about the cows the pigs, the hens? They would die out completely, because they aren't fit to live in the wild, and if nobody can profit from raising them, then why should anyone bother? Instead, why not cherish this beautiful circle of life? In the wild, it's "Eat or be eaten". Ohh, cats, they're cute, aren't they? There are hundreds of thousands of cats in America, and they kill millions of birds, rats, insects and other smaller creatures every year. So it's okay to breed cats that slaughters animals for fun, but not okay to raise animals for food? Edit --> I laughed at the beginning not to insult anyone, but because I felt there were some truly younthful naive posts. Nothing wrong that that, of course, it just felt refreshing, since I'm used to hanging with more, eh, disillusioned and unethical crowds. And many of you make good points, of course. I apologize in advance if I insulted anyone. Blah. I have seen this arguement too many times. I don't like meat. I don't find meat appealing. I'm not sure if your response was directed at me, but I clearly stated that I absolutely believe meat is necessary for humans. Honestly, you sound like someone from my 8th grade lunch table group shoving ham on my plate to tick me off. rolleyes "Did you know for every step you take blah blah"...like, seriously? What in the heck does that have to do with anything I said? And come on, disillusioned? If your post wasn't concerning me then I apologize, but I do feel it was unnecessary as no one here has harshly critiqued meat-eaters.

Subliminate Blah. In fact, it wasn't directed towards you at all, but what I say from now on is. I sound like a what? Maybe you'd like to share your thought process with me? Now, I'm going "big perspective, not talking to anyone in particular, but simply sharing my opinion with the masses": What I was saying was, that all arguments such as 'I refuse to eat anything with a face/soul' or 'I feel sorry for the animals' are completely irrational and are one hundred percent childish bullshit. Each one of us kills thousands of creatures every day, and obsessing over a few who will be turned into food is, put simply, ******** stupid. My POINT was that holding the life of one living entity over another simply because one of them has a face, or because it's bigger compared to those tiny creatures, is simply ******** stupid. I can almost respect vegetarians who refuse to eat meat because they're upset about how some factories treats the animals. Almost, because they haven't realized they'd do a lot more to help if they ate food produced at more humanitarian factories, and thereby earn them more money, which would make other inhumane factories realize that maybe people would buy more if they became more humanitarian. If you're against the Republicans, you make a bigger difference by voting for the Democrats as compared to not voting at all. The only vegetatians I can respect are the ones who become vegetarians because they have realized that in order to cover the growing food quota, now that the population count is exploding, is to stop mass-producing meat and grow vegetables instead. There's numbers on this somewhere, but I don't care about the exact numbers. And now, since I'm ******** pissed, I'll try to explain this once again without being insulting: If I'm ******** talking to you, face-to-face, talking JUST to you, I'd quote you, or mention your handle, but as far as I know, I did neither of those. Are you picking up what I'm putting down, hun? And I'm still waiting for you to share how you came to the conclusion that I'm like an eight grader. I'm waiting with much anticipation, in fact.

But do the micro organisms have nervous systems or even a brain to feel or comprehend pain? There's obviously nothing we can do to prevent harming some things.
You really can't say that you're not here to offend people when you tell people that their beliefs are childish or bullshit. I don't understand why you seem to have a problem with another person's way of life when it really doesn't effect you.

You really can't say that you're not here to offend people when you tell people that their beliefs are childish or bullshit. I don't understand why you seem to have a problem with another person's way of life when it really doesn't effect you. So it's the ability to reason or to feel that dictates the worth of a living creature? If you follow that reasoning, then... Vegetable patients? Vegetabilised patients? What do you call it? Well, you get my point... should be okay to use in human experiments, since they can't feel, think or communicate? Of course I realize we can't prevent harming or killing. All animals kill each other for various reasons. But refusing to eat one living creature simply because it has a face and a brain, while mercilessly consuming other living beings just because they cannot think, that's childish. And plants do have a nervous system - they can register if they loose a part of their mass, and they can react to their environment. Many plants actively seek out sunlight, and can lean towards bright areas, and then lean the other way another day. Not to mention plants that reacts when you touch them, or plants that react to the sun cycle, 'hiding' during night time and 'blooming' during daylight. They are seeded, they grow, they absorb nutrients, they spread their pollen, they grow old, they die and return to the earth. I'm not saying you're not supposed to eat them because of that; I'm saying they're the same as any living creature. That's why I said it was childish not to eat creatures with a face. Merely trying to educate today's youth and show them for what reasons they should, and should not, become vegetarians. Nervous system, yes. Ability to register pain, no. But I still don't think that's the right way to judge a life's worth.

But I still don't think that's the right way to judge a life's worth. Not necessarily. The main point of it is that it can't be helped. Vegetables are different because they weren't always like that and their families can't let them go. I personally don't have a problem with killing and consuming something that's living in and of itself. My problem is the unnatural and cruel way that we exploit something conscious like that. Those characteristics don't necessarily indicate consciousness or comprehension of actual pain or any emotion at all. I still don’t understand what you have against vegetarians.

I don't have anything against vegetarians. I never said I did. I just said that there are good and bad reasons to become a vegetarian. I also stated that I'm against animal cruelty all the way. You're talking to a guy who won't even swat gnats if they're biting me on the hand; I just brush them away. I have the highest respect for all living creatures -aside from humans, I really have no respect for my own specie-. So I am, just like you, against animal cruelty and the way SOME factories treat their 'products'. The whole point of my previous post was to illustrate the fact that all living beings are equally living, conscious or not conscious. You cannot kill and consume one living creature and then be against the killing and eating of another without being a hypocrite. If you become a vegetarian, it should be for other reasons. Like a protest against the way SOME factories treats the animals, but if that's your reason, then buying ecological meat from more friendly and humane factories would be a better solution. So that's not really a good reason, when I think about it. Well, the intention is good, but it's not that simple in practice. If you're against Red, it's better to join Blue than to remain independent. GOOD reasons are reasons such as: Recognizing the fact that in order to meet the growing demand for food, growing more vegetables and reducing the animal production is the only long-term solution. Another reason: Simply because eating the right vegetables is healthier than eating meat. Or: ... I can't think of a third good reason right now. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share them.

I've been vegetarian since age 12. I think that PETA make all vegetarians look bad. I can't stand the thought of slaughter and blood. I became what I am because I saw how hot dogs were made. If I could survive as a plant does I would. The argument that makes me mad is when a 20/30/40 sometimes 50 pound overweight person says I'm not healthy. I have sometimes caught myself criticizing meat eaters who eat excess for their own "Pleasure".

Warrior of Metal I eat meat. All meat. Any meat. Hell, if I was at a restaurant in some third world country and they served dog I would try it. I'd even try human if it was possible. We have canines for eating meat. We are meant to do it, always have been, always will. If someone makes the personal choice to be a vegetarian, that's fine, long as they keep their PETA pamphlets out of my face.

yet ANOTHER Sasuke is right right PETA makes vegetarians look bad, and so do some of the crazy people that say that meat is wrong and we should become vegetarians to save the environment. yes cows emmit "toxic" gasses into the environmoent but so do people. as for vegetarians, i respect them as long as they leave me alone,(exept for my best friend) they choose to eat one way i choose to eat another.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share them. @Squirrel: Right on, man. The two reasons you gave are both reasons why I'm vegan. It just suites my personal taste and it challenges my culinary creativity. I have issues with over eating, so being vegan also limits my choices, therefore limiting how much I eat since I can only eat so much of the same thing. If I had some guarantee that my meat came from a cruelty free source, I might eat it. Probably not though. I don't see the point in killing something that I don't need for survival anyways. With that being stated, I can't live without doing "harm" to plants. The taste, texture and digestion trouble of animal products just isn't worth it for me.
