I'd discovered both numbering systems......but I'm wondering......which would be the better way to number off the name anyway? And thoughts on that one? (I mean, either one works....so...is it just personal preference or.....?)

Avengelynn Hm.
There are several different "Houses" of beliefs on Numerology. The bible and many religious scriptures have certain numbers that are repeated or mentioned, at least. The number 40 is an excellent number, as it is interpreted by most scholars to mean 'cleansing or renewal'. Of course, the number that it really represents, is 4. That's adding 4+0. See the number definitions below.
In names, the key thing is to find a specific house in which to derive your meanings. There are more common meanings though, and this is copy+pasted from a wikipedia article(found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerology):
Number definitions
There are no set definitions for the meaning of specific digits. Common examples include: [3]
0. Everything or absoluteness. All 1. Individual. Aggressor. Yang. 2. Balance. Union. Receptive. Yin. 3. Communication/interaction. Neutrality. 4. Creation. 5. Action. Restlessness. 6. Reaction/flux. Responsibility. 7. Thought/consciousness. 8. Power/sacrifice. 9. Highest level of change. 10. Rebirth.
Now, here is what I derived from my name (Erika Victoria May). If you give a number to every letter in the alphabet, A-Z, in succession, 1-9, over and over, you end with the number 8. If you just count the numbers, as in 1-26, then add the double digits, you still end with the same.
My name, before adding up, has a lot of 1's, and even more 9's. Added, each name by its self and in order, is 8 7 3. My middle name is the only one, though, that has a different number when added in a different way(I did 2 methods). The other number was 6. Now, if i take the first 3 numbers (873) and add it, I get 18, then added to make 9. Of course, subtract 1 to get the other ultimate meaning of 8.
The other thing about ideas such as Numerology is that you really have to take your own meaning. That's the beauty of it, really. There can be different meanings to the same number.
I haven't exactly formed the conclusion on what my name means, but its pretty interesting if you ask me.
In relation to the numbers that Rabbit Mauve mentioned, 422, you can take the meanings from above and do a few things. You can take the numbers individually to make a collective meaning. The other way is to add them, 4+2+2=8(Power/Sacrifice).
Also, it could be a sign, rather than a numerology meaning. I know of people who had dreams of destruction, seeing numbers 9 and 11, and airplanes who's numbers match that of the flights that were hijacked. Some had dreams a year or so before it happened.
Food for thought. Mmmm, yummy. :3 yes this does make sense as well. i have found out through out the bible that the numbers 4 & 40 & 2 are repeated throughout the bible in many places. I take it as a sign now and adding them up, makes 8, yes. I can try to find out where the number 8 comes up in the bible as well.

Yeah, a lot of it is personal preference.
And if you prefer to have guidance, I would recommend getting a book.
I picked up 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Numerology". Its like, part workbook, part instruction book. Its pretty cool, and I recommend that. :3
And its more complex than I remembered. What I calculated earlier in the thread is my Destiny Number. I also caught a math error in my middle name. But all is well.
Anywayssss, like I always say, "Books Are Friends". This book has a lot of things to think about. <3

:: huggles back ::
No problemo, Mon Ami. :3
Also, I'm a bit tight on money right now, however, I do things a bit differently.
"If I have money, I buy books. If I have money left over, I buy food." Someone said that, and I was like, Heck to the Yes! So that's what I do. I don't eat that much anyways, usually just Popsicles and sammiches. But that's just the baby. D:
