Not noticing her own smoke, Rook fought on, the metallic taste of plasma starting to slide into her senses as her teeth sunk in, feeling her own grip on her mind slowly failing. While she had a slightly more firm grasp on reality compared to the male, this sudden stress was taking her back down and making her more and more like an animal. She hissed as she spat blood from her mouth, still grappling in attempt to gain the upper hand.
Searching for a weakness as he bowled her over, Rook threw her nose in his direction, horn seeking out a target. It was then that she realized his shortness of breath and coughing, just before he latched on to her neck. Bellowing loudly, she threw her weight in his direction, taloned paw searching for something to push off of and distance herself from the crazed male.

Emon found his first bite to be very bittersweet-- the female's horn stabbed into him momentarily before his putrid fangs made contact. His attitude changed now with the feeling of pain at this level, his teeth relenting and releasing his grip as Rook kicked herself away from him. It wasn't that he wasn't accustomed to pain, he was just used to smaller, weaker Kage lying down and accepting their fate. Sure, he enjoyed playing with his food, but when his own blood was being drawn it lost a bit of its luster to him.
Emon got to his feet, his tail thumping the ground in frustration as he watched her. The scent of smoke was overpowering now-- he let out a hacking cough, some of Rook's own blood spattering the ground. His heart was beating incessantly, the adrenaline making him seem cold with shivers. "Just... die," he hissed, glancing around, the scent of the female harder and harder to keep pinned down.

Rook circled back around to stand quivering in the door frame, nostrils flared as she panted for breath. She fought the urge to retort- she knew by now it wouldn't mean anything to him anyways. Catching sight of his golden body faded through the smoke, she began to wonder; how had she known that under stress she excreted more of the stuff? Attackers were rare, and often not much of a match for her.
But this one...
Her body ached already as she felt cuts and bruises already taking their toll on her. Chest heaving, her ears swiveled to listen to the other, eyes adjusting to the darkness that now covered the desolate town. The blood on her pelt was already starting to dry in the chilled air, her fur feeling matted against her skin.
Why hadn't she ran yet?

The hell kage snorted angrily, preparing to attack again. He was hell-bent on destroying this female now, his fury surpassing just the mild hunger than he normally felt. But why was it getting so difficult to smell her? Obviously, something else was at work here, and Emon was not familiar with smokewalkers.
All at once, the two kage overheard the rustling and soft whispers of humans in the distance. Emon's head rose, the tantalizing scent of fresh flesh making the drool flow freely. "Human..." he muttered slowly, shrugging off the female as if he had never rolled around with her in the dirt in a fit of cannibalistic rage.
"I 'erd a yeller one lives 'round here, but no one been brave 'nuff to come kill it."
The two men were dressed in leathers and furs, with knives and daggers strapped to their waists and ankles. From the sound of their words, they were sent to hunt Emon for a bounty.
"A lil tot from town went missin' last week, they think 'e mighta taken 'im."
Emon listened, licking his lips. He couldn't understand them, but their musky scent was almost debilitating. He slithered into the old building, brushing past Rook-- leaving her to her own devices.

Muscles relaxing as she noticed Emon's mind moving to a new prey, Rook's ears swiveled towards the sound that had attracted his attention. She listened as the sound of clinking metal reached her ears, a low hiss coming from her mouth as she backed away from where they were.
Her eyes shifted as the male brushed past her, amazed at how something with such unbridled rage could be quiet and tame the next moment. Was she like that when she hunted? Surely not.
A soft rumble in the pit of her stomach reminded her that she hadn't eaten. Her gazed shifted hungrily towards the humans, but the thought of competing with the male for food was not very appealing to her. Claws digging into the ground at her feet, she watched the other go and then slunk away in the direction she had come from.

"Aye... I think 'e's around here."
The elder of the two men gave the younger a signal, and went off stalking into the village, dagger handles gripped within his hands. The younger hunter slowly moved in the direction of Rook and Emon, obviously unsure of this whole ordeal-- his fear was palpable, and he shook slightly as he intruded upon the mist.
Emon slipped through the building he had entered, curiously watching through the back door as the female sneaked away. Was he going to give her up for the humans? "Eat you... after," he hissed softly, audible only to sensitive kage ears. He remorsefully let his little treat slide, pretending it wasn't such a difficult battle. He knew what she smelled and tasted like, and if he really wanted, he could easily stalk her.

Emon slid like an oily shadow back into the main square, sensing the younger of the two completely distancing himself from the other. The mist was thick, but even the kage knew his hide was bright so he remained hidden in a thicket of dead, scraggly bushes.
The young man was busy scouting out the area, brandishing his dagger as if it would protect him from evil. "Eh know yer out 'ere," the man whispered to himself. "I jist need the bounty... poor mum's been workin' so hard..." The sob story was lost on the kage's ears, however-- even if he understood, he would've only laughed.
The hell kage tensed himself, sensing the human meander around his territory ever closer to his impending death. Licking his lips, Emon coiled himself like a spring before leaping out at the man, aiming for the knees.
With a holler loud enough to part the mist enshrouding him, the man was felled like a small tree and overcome by the voracity of the kage's assault. Emon tore at his shoulders, arms, everything that wouldn't kill him right away but would ensure they were both completely slavered in his warm, viscous blood. However, a shot of pain interrupted Emon's bloodlust, his own blood erupting from his thigh like a sick volcano.
"Get OFFA ME!" the man shrieked, digging his blade into the soft flesh of his aggressor.
