Actually, not counting Muslims, almost none of the Jewish/Christian people who haven't taken a theology coarse & claim to know what they're talking about, don't. Most Muslims take theology, so they usually know all about it. & Jewish people don't really believe in hell, therefore they can't go there. Least they're not suppose to.

There are different parts of the jewish faith, some teach that you can go to hell and others don't. Some teach the story of Lilith and some don't. Just like Catholics drink wine and Mormons don't drink at all. Look at what the Koran teaches and what they practice in the middle east.

A theology class isn't going to teach you everything.

Regardless of what you think about homosexuality it is a sin in the christian faith and the punishment is damn nation (according to the bible). I'm not trying to sound blunt but its true. And Dante's hell is not taught in the bible or any aspect of the christian faith, its just a story.

The divine comedy is a 3 part book the most famous being the inferno, Dante's journey through hell guided by the poet angel. The other two are his journeys through Purgatory and the third and final book are about his journey through the layers of heaven.

Loki makes a pretty good argument against it. I also question the idea of saying someone's going to Hell if they're born that way, but most people holding that belief would say it's a choice, so...

Dante's version of Hell isn't what's taught in the Bible, but it's become Hell as shown in popular culture. Since Christians can be really hit-or-miss regarding knowledge of their own faith, I wouldn't be surprised to meet people who thought that was how the Bible described Hell.

Leviticus
“Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.

Leviticus
“If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.

1 Corinthians
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,

1 Timothy
The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, [ Or kidnappers.] liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching

Try and justify it anyway you like that is what is written, and as it is written so shall I believe. But don't let me tell you is a sin and that you should be ashamed and don't let Loki tell you its ok. He mentions some of these but he takes them with his opinion dances around the subject and dismisses them (Which is wrong). Read the book and figure it out for yourself. I did, and I think its a sin but I don't care, I'm not a christian despite the fact I study it so much. If I were a christian I would be guilty of multiple sins on a daily basis.

Besides do you really care about what christians think? Do you honestly believe in the concept of an immortal soul and that an all knowing and all seeing god will give you eternal life if you suck up to him. My problem is the only reason why the christian faith exists is because a Roman emperor was tripping balls and saw the face of God during a battle. Had that not of happened they would have stayed lion food.

If everyone thinks that what hell is like because of popular culture they may as well think that everyone in japan has super powers, pink hair and giant robots = /

Leviticus

1.) The "another man" suggests that this is only regarding male homosexuals. Do lesbians get off free, then?
2.) Considering the other laws in Leviticus, and things like this and some of Paul's comments regarding the book, even attempting to apply it to modern Christians is difficult. If Christians are supposed to completely follow Leviticus and that's been lost somewhere, then I'd simply be one of a large amount of the population failing to follow it.

This really does seem to be a translation issue.

I'm curious: If you're not Christian, why do you believe that homosexuality is a sin because of the Bible?

Other than that, I'd like specifics regarding where he danced around and dismissed them solely based on opinion. That's a pretty long introduction, and I'm not sure where to even start as it is.

For your first question, yes and no. I don't care if someone feels a certain way about something unless they've based it off inaccurate information or if their position is being mislabeled (especially if they're mislabeled as a view I hold).

I might disagree with someone's religious views (or lack thereof), but I can understand why someone does or does not believe in a supreme deity.

My issue isn't with Christianity so much as the "fandom". Large numbers of followers result in absurdly large numbers of idiots. gonk
...Well okay, I have issues with Christianity, but my biggest is with idiot followers.

Five words: Fundies Say the Darndest Things
That site's hilarious, but some of the stuff on there makes a belief that Hell is like Dante's Inferno seem plausible.

REM Sleep: If you are somehow against homosexuality, then why is it that you have joined a guild all about girl-love? That is what is most baffling to me at the moment.

We can argue about religion all day, making our points about what part of the Bible says this or that, but no one is going to "win"; there are only losers in this fight. We all follow religions in our own way, making each of our individual beliefs unique and may or may not be ours alone. After all, that is how Dante, the person who made this mythos, had done it. His own beliefs were reflected in the Divine Comedy. Does this mean that this is how Christianity is to everyone? Of course not. It's his belief, just as it's ZephyrKitty's belief that homosexuality is not a sin, or it's my belief that people complain about everything too much.

Let's be honest: There is no point in arguing about religion or politics or consoles. All it boils down to is yelling and then acting like children.

Seventh Level of Hell
--------------------------------------------
Guarded by the Minotaur, who snarls in fury, and encircled within the river Phlegethon, filled with boiling blood, is the Seventh Level of Hell. The violent, the assasins, the tyrants, and the war-mongers lament their pitiless mischiefs in the river, while centaurs armed with bows and arrows shoot those who try to escape their punishment. The stench here is overpowering. This level is also home to the wood of the suicides- stunted and gnarled trees with twisting branches and poisoned fruit. At the time of final judgement, their bodies will hang from their branches. In those branches the Harpies, foul birdlike creatures with human faces, make their nests. Beyond the wood is scorching sand where those who committed violence against God and nature are showered with flakes of fire that rain down against their naked bodies. Blasphemers and sodomites writhe in pain, their tongues more loosed to lamentation, and out of their eyes gushes forth their woe. Usurers, who followed neither nature nor art, also share company in the Seventh Level.

haron ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.
