Kimae pushed her way out of her temporary home and glanced around, eyes blurry. Sniffing a tiny bit, she tip-toed her way towards the fires, blinking a bit.

The form of her mentor, and she looked even more serious then usual. "Vixa? Everything alright..?" she asked quietly, peering from behind her hair. Her stomach fluttered like her totem, and for some reason, she felt extremely nervous.

Lyka peered into the cavern from behind a large rock, adjusting the fit of her jaws. The corners of her lips wrinkled upwards into a leering smile that displayed her baby-fangs to their fullest.

She flicked her tail curiously. What was the Shamaness doing with that white cougar? Who was that white cougar anyway. Lyka couldn't remember seeing her around before. That shouldn't have been very surprising because she spent most of her time out on the cliffs, but she was interested in the way all kittens are.

As the firelight cast a bright tendril her way, she quickly ducked back into the shadow of the rock.

While the two older cougars were occupied, Lyka slunk out of the cave. She darted out over the bare rocks, the blue of her fur melting into her surroundings in the pale light of the moon. The wind brushed the clouds away and the brightness revealed a brown moth fluttering past her nose. She swiped at it, but missed.

Following the moth carefully, Lyka stalked after it. It was flying higher by the moment and the light was already dimming. She bared her teeth and a determined light crept into her yellow eyes. Lyka leapt upwards as high as she could, her paw missing the moth by millimeters. Although she was not able to deliver the smashing stroke that would knock it to the ground, she managed to snag a wing on her unsheathed claws and she watched in amusement as it fluttered frantically into the night winds.

The shining scales that had fallen from the torn wing coated her paw like a powdery sheath and she admired the shine under the moonlight. It made the blood red fur glitter evily and she liked the look of it.

Lyka brushed the scales from her paw and climbed to a rock above the cavern entrance. From there, she jumped to another, but slipped on the ice and fell heavily, tumbling through the snow, and stopping when she hit a yet another rock.

Lyka yelped when she felt her paws sliding, but made no other sound. Slowly, she twisted her body around so that her feet were agaist the rock instead of her back. From there, she braced herself for the steep incline and hurled herself upwards, digging her claws into the frozen earth. The slope grew steeper, and her fingers were numbed from the cold despite the thick fur, but Lyka continued to plunge each paw through the snow and gain a hold in the hard ground beneath.

She was already on her way to the Quicktalon training grounds. She skirted around the edge of the groups of fighting cougars. Most of them were teens, honing their skills to become top-notch huntresses. A few were seasoned vetrans. Once the elite of their class, their knowledge and experiance were unmatched but their bodies had grown too old for the battlefeild. Now, they were fit only to teach.

Lyka watched the old warriors with interest. Quicktalon life was harsh and Quicktalon cougars had to be hardy. Not many could live to such an age. Their limbs were withered and their fur greying, but their eyes darted about as quickly as their wise minds although their movements were no longer fast enough, nor limber enough to keep up.

"Just watching isn't training, Kitten."

A harsh voice came from behind Lyka. It was Vixa, the Head Shamaness of Quicktalen. She frowned down at the kitten, she didn't like to see inactivity in kittens. It made for lazy and useless adults.

She jumped and spun around in surprise, landing a full two body lengths away from the Shamaness, a frightened snarl escaping her lips.

Lyka calmed down slightly when she saw who it was, although not much. Fellow Quicktalons were less meanacing than a pack of anthro wolves, but still required caution. She replied meekly with her ears down, although she was already tensed to spring away should Vixa be in a foul mood.

"There isn't anyone willing to train a kitten."

'Yes there are, but you have to show that you have some sort of talent that is worth being trained in. Climbing around on boulders and just watching aren't good talents. Can you fight?"

She just raised an eyebrow at the kitten.

Lyka phrased her words carefully. She hadn't had a lot of fights with other kittens, but the few she got into, she had always been the first to draw blood. However, most of her time was spent climbing, so she was careful not to inflate her skill level.

"I intend to learn."

"Itending to and actually doing are two different things. Come, try and hit me. If you can."

That last bit was said with a very pronounced smirk.

Lyka grew silent, she tipped her weight forward onto her toes and put her fingertips to the ground, staring upwards at the older cougar. She knew it wouldn't do to just charge straight forwards, and Vixa might be expecting it if she swerved in from the side or back or feinted from the front. Lyka did what she always did when she wasn't sure. She jumped.

She took her initial two steps straight towards Vixa, but then whirled around as if she were going to rush from the back. But instead of reaching out with her claws, she put her hands down and sprung upwards with all four limbs and sailing over the older cougar's head.

She twisted her body around as if she were trying to jump to a ledge underneath the one she was one, and unsheathed her claws, trying to rake down the back of Vixa's shoulder as she landed.

The elder cougar just smirked and before Lyka knew she had turned around and a quick jab was made to strike her down to the ground.

"If you fight like you climb your movements will be very very predictable."

Lyka landed hard on her side and slid a few feet before she could roll back to her feet. Her back claws were out, scraping against the ground to stop her backwards movement.

She listened to Vixa's words and began her next attack, hoping that the older cougar would offer more advice. She sprang forwards again, a high kittenish snarl issuing from her lungs with the effort.
