Ikkaku awoke suddenly with a gasp. He glanced around as he grasped his Zanpakuto angrily and stood up. His body hurt like hell, but for some reason there wasn't much wrong with it other than a few bumps and bruises. "What the hell?" He asked himself as he looked himself over. The last thing he remembered was Houzukimaru's power growing so much that blood began to pour out of his body. That was it though. He blacked out and suddenly he woke up here, on Soukyoku Hill next to Renji, Byakuya, and Rukia. Renji was in bad shape it looked like, but that didn't matter much to him. He could feel that he was still alive and that meant Unohana could probably save him. The next thing on his mind was why Dreza didn't finish him off. Suddenly Houzukimaru spoke within his head.
"b*****d..." The spirit said, "How dare you wake me up fully only to pass out. You're lucky Dreza had compassion for you. You... or rather we, learned a technique of his, you know. Shunzan. And as a result he decided that he would wait for you to get stronger so that you two could fight again. I suggest you go find him before he leaves."
"Hey, ******** you!" Ikkaku replied in his head, "I fought as hard as I could. But what you say is true. I can't just have some guy show up, give me the best fight of my life, and suddenly leave. That's not enough! I have to beat him... I have to get stronger and beat him! I can't let him get away." Ikkaku then began to chase after Dreza, determined to find him.

Unohana had indeed been very busy. With all the bloodshed her hands were beginning to stain crimson, a sign that the sneak attack surely accomplished it's goal. However, being the captain of the fourth squad she had to ensure that all were attended to. Those who come first get treated first. She would not simple dis-abandon other fellow shinigami's on the premise of rank in soul society and who was friends with who. It was first come first serve. But even she had not anticipated all of this carnage.
As she finally arrived at the scene of Renji and Ikkaku she knew that several people were upset with her. Though before she could even attend to those who needed it Byakuya Kuchiki arrived. She was exhausted at this point running frantically back and forth while her other squad members attended their duties from her. Isane along with seated members to 20 aided her in healing and declaring the dead.
"I'm sorry for having been late," she said in a passive voice, "Forgive me, but it is worse than it seems." Her eyes looked down on everyone, analyzing the possible damage. She knew that Ikkaku would awake and that any advice to rest would simply be ignored. Still, she gave it when he did. "Ikkaku-san, it is highly advisable you rest, you may seem fine but the damage is clear, rest or beware. As for all others, I kindly request you leave me with Ikkaku, Renji, and Byakuya. Renji will survive, do not fret."
Her concerns voiced she smiled. She immediately set up a healing barrier around all three patients. Then ran off to fetch supplies that lasted from the blast.
Abarai Renji was going to need surgery.

Byakuya simply closed his eyes and replied with a sound as he laid back down, Atsutane on the other hand was beginning to feel better as the barrier held slight healing effects, His small cuts on his arms and legs began to heal. He felt Ikkaku might be still to weak to fight, so he would follow the man secretly to protect him.

Ikkaku broke through the healing barrier set up by Unohana. He didn't need it. He was already feeling better and as it was he had absolutely zero wounds on his body. He made it about thirty yards before he noticed that Atsutane was following him. He stopped and glanced back just enough to see Atsutane, who was trying to remain hidden, from his left eye. "The ******** do you think you're doing following me?" He said angrily. "I can take care of myself. I don't need you to act as my damn guardian angel. What the hell kind of dishonorable fool do you think I am?" He turned back and continued forward, not really allowing for any bit of response. He had no qualms about attacking another shinigami if it meant that he could be left alone, especially if they weren't in his squad.

Atsutane did not have time to respond and saw Ikkaku leave, He would not follow him, but kept close concentration on Ikkaku's reiatsu, If it began to weaken he would be their in a second. He calmly went back to Byakuya and waited for further instruction. To break the silence he asked "Taichou, what are my orders?".
Byakuya simply replied, not opening his eyes "Go check on the rest of our squad, support them they may be in need. I believe the commander has taken care of the Ryoka's"
Atsutane replied with a nod as he used Shunpo to head towards squad 6 to first investigate his squad building.

Atsutane returned, He laid captain Toushiro's body down next to the other dead. "I found him, dead at his squad building, someone must have taken his Haori as well" Said Atsutane to Unohana as he quickly dissapeared heading out to squad 3 once again

As Unohana returned back with medical supplies for the intensive surgery she could help but pause for a slight second. The dead body of Hitsugaya Toushiro lay before her. Though, that shouldn't have been a shock, considering that his reitsu disappeared several hours ago. She sighed, and moved on, the dead body only confirmed her worries.
She noticed that Ikkaku Madarame had left and broken her barrier. She knew he would and so after moving Renji, placed a stronger one where the previous had stood. She bowed to the others and informed them of what was going to happen. He had a slim chance of living, but she would try her best.
She summoned two of her squad members to help move the body to a barrier enclosed area. There she would begin the arduous journey of restoring life to the dead.

Inside the barrier Unohana Taichou began her work. It would be hours before she was done.
When she finally finished up she began to set the strongest healing barrier known to all of soul society. It was rumored that it could bring the dead back to life. She would never tell.

((Question: Are you placing Hitsugaya underneath the super awesome healing barrier that might or might not restore life to the dead, or is it Renji being placed under it?))
Renji suddenly began to stir. His Reiatsu levels were still dangerously close to death, but his body was completely repaired. It was as if he had died but was not quite gone entirely. Like a human's heart stopping only to be restarted by defibrulation. He was technically dead for some time, but the possibility of bringing him back was not gone just yet. Unohana's work was extraordinary and as a result his muscles began to twitch. His eyes moved ever so slightly beneath heavy eye lids. Fingers gently scraped the ground he lay on and finally his eye lids parted ever so slightly. The whites of his eyes had shown themselves to the sky for only the smallest moment before they hid themselves again. His iris' and pupils would not dare reveal their form just yet. He was alive, but still incapacitated! His breathing began again ever so slowly. There was no life giving gasp, but rather a small inhale followed by an ever so slightly bigger exhale with an inhale following it equal in size. Soon his breath was in full motion for a sleeping man, paced, slow, but steady.

Rukia stood back, letting Unohana do her work. Instead of sitting around waiting for her friends and family to recover she looked around. She wanted to find the man who did this to her brother. He was going to be fine, but Byakuya said that his older brother did this to him, and she wanted to meet the man. She felt for a man with similar reiatsu to the guy who fought her brother and found him not too far away. She quickly headed off, toward Nagaharu.

Byakuya stood up, he brushed off his haori and looked to unohana bowing his head slightly in thanks. Then began to walk towards the cliff stairs of Soukyoku Hill.
Atsutane appeared in front of Byakuya causing Byakuya to stop. Atsutane knelt down in honor. "Byakuya Taichou, I have information to share with you, if I may?" said Atsutane in a almost stern tone.
"You may, Ryoji" permitted Byakuya. So Atsutane told him off his encounter with Ikkimaru and the 14th squad and how Aizen had tricked them. Then of his encounter with the Specter now revealed as the exiled 10th captain. Then of his promotion to 9th captain. "I am not surprised to find that Aizen's dark deeds did this" said Byakuya clenching his left fist.

It was too late to save Hitsugaya Toushirou. The damages done to his body by the time he got to Unohana were tremendous. He was completely dead, both his physical body and his spiritual partner, Hitsugaya, destroyed. At least in the case of vice-captain Abarai Renji his body may have been dead but his spirit was still in tacked
Most people wouldn't know, she thought, that the body can be brought back to life. It was always said that if your zanpakutou was destroyed then you would die also. But that was not the case. The body of a shinigami and the zanpakuto were two individual things that co-existed with one another. The zanpakuto, the soul, as humans would call it and the body in which it occupied, body and spirit, yin and yang. And, because of this, this being that one may not co-exist without the other, it was possible to restore life to the balancer that was lost. It was a forbidden technique. "Reverse Life" it was called.

 Hinamori panted heavily as she came to a stop, her sword drawn and blood tainting both her face and clothes. It was obvious she had gotten her fair share of fighting, even if it had been only small fry. She had been worried when she felt Hitsugaya's reiatsu lower, but she had prayed to the gods above that he had only been unconcious... That he had lost conciousness and that was it. That Unohana would've fixed him up, that the reason for the strong reiatsu leaking from the healer was the one that was fixing Hitsugaya.
However, when she saw Hitsugaya lying on the ground and Unohana working on someone else, her heart skipped a beat. She wasn't working on Hitsugaya.. It couldn't be possible... He couldn't be gone... Her breathing hitched for a second as she stumbled forwards, Tobiume dropping from her hands as she finally fell on her knees next to the boy she grew up with.
"Shi..ro...chan..." she whispered softly, tears gathering in her eyes as she reached out a hand and gently tugged some loose strands away from his face. "Iie... I-iie..." she mumbled, closing her eyes as the tears started to trickle down her cheeks. How had this happened...? Who had killed off her best friend..? Who had killed the boy she grew up with? "Shiro-chan...!" she finally cried out, sobs racking her petite body.

Renji's eyes were suddenly shocked wide open. The voice of Hinamori was more than enough to wake him from his near death slumber. Unohana's healing had essentially brought him back to life, but it was Momo's voice and the particular word she cried out that revived him entirely. He could barely move, but he raised his head and looked over to try and spot her. After glancing about a few times he finally eyed her over to his left. She was hovering over a body, one that lay all too still. He suddenly realized what had happened. Toushiro Hitsugaya was dead. How did this happen? How was it that he was nearly killed but survived and Hitsugaya was killed? It should have been the other way around. Hitsugaya was stronger than Renji. Why was Renji still alive? "Momo..." He called out then let his head drop back to the dirt. His body was in perfect condition but he just did not have the energy to get up and go comfort her.

He was gone... He was dead... And she was still alive. That was wrong... That was so wrong... 'He always... Always wanted to protect me... He always... Came to my help...' she thought, lowering her head on his chest as she sobbed quietly. "Then why?! WHY COULDN'T I DO THE SAME FOR HIM IN THE END?!" she finally screamed out, het petite fists clenching around the clothing. "Shiro-chan...!! Hitsugaya-kun..!! H-Hit-Hitsugaya... Taichou.... I'll call you whatever you want just.. Just.. D-don't... Don't.." she choked out, unable to speak the last two words.
Don't be dead.
"This will not bring him back..." whispered the voice of Tobiume. 'I know... But he... I... He can't... H-he... It should've been m-me.. Or.. Or...' she swallowed once, slowly opening her eyes when she heard someone choke out her name.
Momo.
For a split second she prayed it had been Hitsugaya who had said it. For a split second she thought this would've all been a nightmare. Just like that time with Aizen. Aizen had still been alive too, right? Hah.... Hahah.. Yeah.. He had still been alive.. Maybe Hitsugaya-kun was too... Maybe--
"Please, Momo... do not fool yourself. It is too late for him... But it's not too late for your other friends..." uttered Tobiume, making more tears trickle down the girl's cheeks. Hitsugaya was gone... "Abarai-kun..." she finally choked out, slowly unclenching her fists and pushing herself up to her feet as she stared at the white-haired boy below her.
"Don't call me Shiro-chan, Bedwetter Momo!"
"Gomen..." she whispered softly, swallowing a few times and slowly stepping back to the place where she dropped Tobiume, grasping the zanpakutou and making her way towards Renji, all the while tears rolling down her cheeks.

Rukia arrived back on the scene after the 14th Squad had left. Her new older brother had told her to talk to Byakuya, and that was where she had last seen him. She arrived just in time to witness Momo's cry. Rukia had known that Hitsugaya was dead, and sure she was upset, but no where near as much as Momo would be. The sound of Momo's voice was like a knife in Rukia's heart. The poor girl. First Aizen now Hitsugaya. Would the young lieutenant ever catch a break? That didn't matter though. She needed to find Byakuya. She scanned the ground to find nothing but dirt where he was left, but she did find Renji, still laying there. But it looked like he was awake now! All things aside Rukia ran over to Renji's side and dropped to her knees. "Renji... you- your alive." She said with tears forming in her eyes. She thought he was dead. That he would never come back and that she would be left minus a friend. It was now that Rukia understood how Momo felt.
"Hinamori-san..." She said as she turned to Momo. She felt so bad. She wanted to hug the girl, but who knew what Momo was actually feeling at the moment. Surely there was sadness, but there also could have been rage. The mood was so somber. Emotional and physical pain hung in the air like a thick fog, it was almost unbearable. Why had this happened? What happened? Why did the 14th Squad have to cause such chaos and pain? She and her friends had never done anything to hurt that squad, why was so much done when nothing was done to provoke it? Rukia's expression went from sad to hardened. She wanted answers. Her tears were dry now. Something was amiss in Seireitei and she and her friends and family were paying for it. Something would have to happen.
