im 14...15 next month
5'8 and play SF/SG
i have problems with:
-dribbling
i can dribble but my moves dont work at all
the defender always seem to be in front of me no matter what
or i lose my dribble but if i practice dribbling i lose my shooting stroke
-pressure
i get worried when im in season games
especially when my family sitting in the stands
it seems like my stroke took a lunch break
-defense
it could be that im slower than the ppl i defend
but the person always pass by me...lol
holding my hand out stops them sometimes
and i dont have anyone to practice with me
I can help you out.
Dribbling- If you can't cross up people, try being more of an off-ball player. Players like Rip Hamilton and Ray Allen are really good at this.
- If the defender is in front of you no matter what, it means that your crossovers are inefficient or not sharp enough. Keep practicing.
- Practice both shooting and dribbling if that helps.
Pressure- Be more focused, and if your heart start pumping like crazy and your shot ain't working, just know what's the task at hand.
Defense- I had that same problem of defenders always passing me (and sometimes even now, depending on the person's skill). It's not that you're slower, it means that you're not tightening up enough.
- To stop people, tighten up the defense and predict where will they go (it's usually a lack of work-ethic that people are bad at D).
- Play at your local basketball court or play in house league/rep to practice defense.
