If someone doesn't stick to their ethics, then they probably never had them to begin with. About the cheapness of something, the majority of society will look down upon those who exploit a power that they probably should not have.
When it comes to people who have actual power of some sort using it for their own gain, that is usually what sparks wars. One person is of course not going to stand against a whole government, but that's what armies are for. It's usually not very hard to take down a corrupted organization. If your answer to that is "Then why isn't it being done?" then my response would be that most people just aren't intelligent enough to do it right.
I agree completely with your third statement. The original idea was that a death note was needed to do good for the world, but that would mean that even criminals who do not deserve death would either die anyway, or be left to continue their crimes. A police force can deal with them without killing. If a death note were to be used to kill only those who absolutely deserved death, then it should be in the hands of a group of people, all who have been shown to be just and trustworthy, not whoever happens to find it. Most who speak of the death note imply that they will kill all evildoers, which is unacceptable.
The second point refers to what this world really needs: gods. Not gods of death, but of justice. My specific example used my character as one, as he has exactly the right personality to take on such a job. All who act unjustly, criminal or not, should be persued relentlessly. Fear is the greatest weapon to don against such foes.

That is also part of the problem with the world. Gods, or what I mean to say is religion. This current war we're in is a pretty good example of that. Religion is a very powerful source. Sadly, I think it's one of the main tools of war in some cases. The problem is not religion itself, but how it is used. In my opinion, church is a form of brainwashing. The majority of churches out there, I believe, are corrupt. I'm not saying that anyone's religion is wrong, but there are people behind it who are. Wrong in the sense of why they want you to convert and conform.

But it is not religion that we need. We need real gods, divine beings that can roam the earth alongside the living, and act in the event of a problem. Like site moderators for the physical realm.

yes but then we would go back to what you said a short bit ago, about people with power they should not have. To have a force in the world that could be looked to to scare the evil and put to rest the mind of the just would be a great thing. However the truly celestrial aspect of such power would not be it in and of itself, but the ability to not let it corrupt them. To spread out such power, as you suggested is a way to help prevent such abuse but what way is there to keep them from joining as a collective and using it for self gain? I look at congress as a prime example of taking power beyond average citizens (that of making laws) and exploiting it nearly as a whole group (that being the 2 party system and all the funding they take in support of private interest).
As for the reason it isn't being done, you are right. People just don't know. but it is the why they do not know that i hate. Those in power have the means and do teach the next generation what they want them to know. Take religion like Zeo mentioned, and how in the past they have deliberately lied to the populous in order to secure their power. The shape of the Earth, the cause of natural disasters, various scientific discoveries and theories, all warped so they would not contradict their belief and undercut the faith, thus diminishing the power of the organized religion. The true problem of waiting for the people to overthrow a corrupt organization is if the organization has control over the teachings, it is near impossible. Knowledge is power, and if such organization controls what knowledge is given to the public, then the people have no real power.
That being said it would damn near take an enlightened person with a notebook of death to change the world it seems, as the people have been taught to not do so themselves.

-Only those who are deemed absolutely just will have such power. There would be a low chance of even one being falsely recieving said power, and in such a case he will be cast down by the others. How to tell if someone fits the criteria? While it is hard to say, one note is that it must be absolutely obvious that they not only are willing to cast aside pleasure for justice, but that they actually want to. Also, who's to say the right person will find the death note?
-That is all merely evidence that most people do not think for themselves. There will always be those who follow their own beliefs on a subject regardless of what a "higher" power says, and it is they that can unite against such an organization.
-A death note would not change the world in the way the series suggested. Most people will not follow someone with such pathetic power. And because a death note user is still human, he is still as weak as one. Light, as great as he had become as Kira, was powerless against a gun. There will be those willing to search and secure each and every single location on the planet to tackle such a foe.

Well first of all, a worth receiver of such power would be rare, or one who would be giving that power would be terribly careless or completely corrupt. Next, aside from the murder of "evil" people, using the Death Note, you can make it look like a complete accident or completely natural. It's not like you're toying around with it first.

I am such a worthy reciever. But I don't need that kind of power. And yes, it is very, very rare. I am a prime example of that. Though it's difficult to see without spending large amounts of time around me outside of the internet. I'm not trying to pretend to be what I'm not, I am simply being honest.
And one shouldn't have to hide a legitimate kill. Unless, of course, that person didn't truly deserve to die...
