under a foot tall.... Wow, she's small.. usually Dryads can get a** big as a normal person... What exactly does she look like? And like I said before the Fey take an interest or warm a bit easier - as easily as a faerie can - to nature lovers and those who are willing to protect it.

*Nod* She is small, but then, so is the tree. The tree itself is only a year or two old, and is maybe four or five feet high. I've seen ones that are only as big as my hand, but then their respective trees are still kinda... puny.

We have a huge oak tree at my boarding house, and there's another dryad who lives in that one; she's larger, about five, five and a half feet tall. But then, since the tree itself is 60-odd (young for an oak) it's natural she would be bigger.

Just on the subject of metals and the fey's apparent allergies to them:
I'd like to know a bit more about that. I tend to analyse everything in my usual scientific manner - which is odd, since I see cute little dryads every day - but still. What kinds of metal? Gold and silver seem to be reasonably exempt, and copper is a fantastic conductor of energies both real and paranormal...

Metals? Alright then!

Well it's been said that the Fey have 'allergies' to metal such as: steal and iron. Some say it's because these metals do not exist in their world there for they cannot touch it cause they haven't been in contact with it. Golds and silvers they can touch because they exist in their world and they love lavish things. Their is this thing called "Cold Iron", which is most potent to them. You can find liable info on that on Wikipedia.
I will post more on this but later sometime because I'm feeling off this week and stuff, so will post more later...

Hope that little bit helps.

Aha, thank you. The allergy of nonexistence, that makes sense.

Whoo! Back at university, finally!
...
Not normally a good thing, but I stay at a residence with treeees. xD The oldest oak tree I've seen in ages is here. You guys wouldn't believe how much this tree has seen.

And our other tree has... well, secrets. The tree is a secret-keeper, it seems.

And down a completely not-different tangent, did you guys know trees have their own souls? Not the dryad, but the tree itself?

Soul is the best word for it, but it's not a soul. It's... the same, but fundamentally different, in the same way trees are fundamentally different to animals. But... *Sighs* the things they've seen... the amount they know...
They don't have a mind, not as we understand it. They're not even conscious. Actually, it's like they exist in a whole different realm to us. It's... stupefying.

Serenity On The Seas
Hey guys it's Serenity! Now I haven't really ever seen a thread opened with this type of topic, so I figured I would make one and see where it goes...

Now ever since I was little I have always believed in beings of other worlds, dimensions, or whatever or where ever they might be. Though lately I have been doubting the world of higher powers and Magick itself; for some personal, factional and external issues and dilemmas. I have searched kept my eyes open and believed as hard as I could, and never have I seen anything to convince me. It still fascinates me today and I still believe to a certain extent. Because of many books I have read it has become a secret wish of mine to find Faerie of the faeries to prove to myself that they're real in one form or another. I also have read to many fantasy books that take place in England and Ireland so now it is a life long dream to get to those countries someday and continue my search there. But enough about my personal goals and dreams back to the subject at hand.

As some of you and myself know faeries aren't-or from what I've read and researched-aren't these little glittered up pixie-like, sparkly winged darling things. The world of Faerie is supposedly a treacherous place; the land of dreams and nightmares, where both can come true in the same wish. They can live among us if they wish and can also only be seen if they wish using a glamour. This is usually where Faerie sight would come in. When faeries do not want to be seen they will put up a glamour, or rather a disguise to make them seem human. They would usually appear as a beautiful mortal and real mortals would often be attracted to them without knowing why. Faerie sight is obviously the ability to see Faeries when they do not have a glamour on or when they are supposedly 'invisible'. When they are in their true form most will still be very attractive, but many also will look terrifying and scary in the truest sense of the word; with all of them though a sense of fear and spine shivering feelings will accompany you. Now not that many mortals are said to have Faerie sight, but for those who do have to be careful because if you have ever read Tithe, Valiant, Wicked Lovely or Ink Exchange, you do not want them to find out that you can see them. According to those books (which are fictional not fact, but are very accurate and well put together with real myth and legend) if they can see you they will blind you so that you can no longer see them; they like to keep their world secret and untainted. They are tricky devils and not always how they seem. They cheat, lie and connive do get what they want or to play treacherous games that can destroy peoples lives or just the person. They kidnap young, smart, beautiful, girls for their kings to marry. And in time those girls become more like the faeries themselves until they are no more than a simple skin pigmentation short of being a faerie. They are spirited away body and soul into another world entirely that supposedly sits right under out noses.

Now another book series-again fiction but entwined with real folklore and legend-suggests that faeries find teenage mortals, because they are more agile and obviously more likely to buy into a chance at their dreams, to do their bidding and dirty work. If it's anything from solving disputes between fey territories to rescuing a fey to something like battling and killing something that threatens faerie. The book series I am talking about is the Chronicles of Faerie by O.R Melling which, in my opinion, is a very well written series that entwine modern day with the twists and turns of ancient strife that continue in faerie. Faeries are seen as beautiful, but deadly looking other worldly beings that will and can kill without batting an eyelash and time means nothing to them for they never die (dah). Their world is the land of dreams where anything can happen, and for all intents and purposes, will happen. Our world is what fuels faerie; the dreams of mortals keep faerie alive. As long as their is a human that believes in faerie and the faeries it will continue to be and thrive. They lived to dance, drink, eat and party. Their music was irresistible, their food delectable but treacherous. If you ate their food you would be theirs, no longer able to stay in one world for long. You would be forever on the fringe of both worlds, constantly switching between the two. The fey would be free to call on you when ever they wished and you would belong to them. They loved to play pranks on humans. To trip you, pull on your hair, bump into you, and sometimes they were known to play with human emotions and love. They could make certain events happen and determine your luck. They would sail through and play with time like it was a childs toy. They could also put animals under their influence easily and have them turn tame or wild, but that was not permanent.

Over all it's a treacherous world full of myth, wonder, mystery, and danger. They could do upon you what you could only ever dream about, and they would and could turn those very dreams into nightmares; twist the plot turn the story around and make it their own creation. They can be ruthless and fearful, deadly and unfeeling. If you have a question for me that you can't post on here, either for personal embarrassment issues or the context of the question please don't hesitate to PM it to me and I will answer it the best I can. If not then just address the fact that the question is for me-or another person-before you type the question.

This thread is for a free flowing discussion of Faerie and the fey. Ask questions post answers and freely discuss topics pertaining to the thread. It's here for everyone of course and don't be afraid to talk in here. General guild rules apply obviously and thanks for reading!

My book says to NEVER eat or drink anything in Faerie, interestingly enough.
It also says that they are the little sparks of light that you see darting around in your periph

So I TOTALLY forgot to post here. ~...~ You could say I've been... busy.

I remember I ended up calling three faeries on accident once. It wasn't exactly fun, but it was interesting.

What happened was, well, I got bored. So I decided to make a "Faerie House" out of leaves, and sticks, and moss, and things like that. In all reality, it was just going to be a toy for me to play make believe since I didn't exactly believe in faeries that much.

It wasn't long after I started making the tiny building that I actually physically heard them coming down my driveway. That was definitely a shocker. It sounded like three little girls giggling as they came towards me. When I went to look, there were no kids in the area. Sadly, though, fall turned to winter and I had to put off finishing their house.

They didn't like that. Nibbs, Tibbs, and Tiff, as I called them, began playing pranks on me -- in private and in public. It started with my possessions randomly disappearing and then reappearing a few weeks later in a room I remember never taking it to, then it turned to my earrings being flung off up to three or so times a day (I guess they all wanted a turn...). It was a bit embarrassing to have to stop the line of people getting onto the bus to snag back an earring...

Eventually, though, winter turned to spring, and I learned that what I'd began making for them had gotten trashed by my mother. After I threw it away they just... left. Every once in a while, however, I'll still hear them. I've heard pipes faintly singing in the hot summer afternoon before. It was just enough to make me think I was going insane...er. xD

I told my dad about this and he wants me to start building a Faerie House again. gonk

apparantly they like mashed potatoes with a glob of butter on top to remind them of the sun to be put in their shrine in your backyard if you have built one ((doesnt have to be big))
if you want them in your house put it in your house i suppose >_> but i dont recommend that... it's like the equivalent of leaving raw meat out in the woods for any animal to claim, if it's not where you're sleeping it's ok but if it is... yeah
if you leave the house and have to go back to get something, make a lot of noise to make it obvious you're coming back in, then stay there and do something like read a book or drink some tea. territorial thing, it's rude to barge in then barge out.
leave your windows open otherwise they feel like you're shutting them out
dont call any of them "she"
that's an interesting story all by itself =)
