Thread RP: Business & Family

Elysium Central Park, midday. There were a scattered bunch of afternoon visitors, some sitting in the scattered benches- others just laying in the grass or walking the pathways that weaved throughout the trees and grassy fields. The park was built in the middle of the city, making a large cross shape if you were to look down from the sky. The very middle of the cross held a lake, simple called the 'Jewel' of Elysium.. because again, from the sky it appeared to be the crosses sapphire in the center.

The place was an undeclaired 'safe zone' among everyone. The gangs didnt touch anyone here, the monsters were never seen creeping it's green grasses... and no crimes ever happened. I guess every place needed somewhere .. nice.

Today, the thread that held the safety of this haven was pulled taunt. A few gangs had chosen the grounds of ECP for a 'meeting'. That was tomorrow- today, the gangs operatives were casing the place. They'd been around for weeks... just watching, studying the paths and the trees.

A dirty blond haired man leaned against one of the trees, light blue eyes narrowed against the sunlight as he watched a family play across the field. A tiny smirk came to his face at how vulnerable they were... just playing and laughing together. He bit into the cigar he was smoking, growling something under his breath before glancing away.

People like that weren't real.

If there was going to be gang activity in the city, the Ballotins were damn well going to have their fingers in the pie. Even if it wasn't Demitasse calling the shots of the organization, his policies were still heavily in place; one always wanted to know what the children were doing.

Pristine in white with blue and silver pinstripes, a slender man rested quietly on one of the shaded benches. Brilliant blue eyes scanned to park lazily as a white-gloved hand came up to tuck long white hair out of the way; he was pale enough to be one of the statues, but it seemed to suit him well enough.

Not at all happy to be out during daylight, Anubis would nevertheless do just about anything for the right price. And someone was willing to pay very handsomely to eliminate some competition.

Of course, that was tomorrow. But, having also been informed that all the gangs would be inspecting the meeting place today, Anu had to also go do his homework. Time to inspect the inspectors, look for a nice position for tomorrow's job...

... And then go home and nap. All this sunlight made him irritable. Smiling families and screaming kids only made the mood worse.

Tombs flicked his cigar to the ground, grinding it in with the heel of his boot. Smoke trailing through his nose, he gave a leering smile to a woman who walked past pushing a baby buggy- she quickly turned away from him, moving all the faster down the path. He was amused.

Domestics were like rabbits, they feared anything that moved- especially if it looked dangerous or different. "...rabbits." Mumbling under his breath, Tombs slipped his hands into his pockets and began stolling down the path towards the lake.

Egyptian. It's been a long time since I saw one of those. Cigar...hmmm. Not an overly dangerous group, as of yet. Pulling a thin strand of white ((OKAYFINEpaleblond)) hair over his shoulder, Sevelin got to his feet and stepped to the edge of the lake. A pretty day, but overly warm in his eyes- ice trailed from the tips of his gloved fingertips to frost over the grass, cooling the heat at the back of his neck and wrists. A glance to his left had him spotting Tomb's approach; amusing. The other wasn't yet close enough to be a worry.

"Pleasant day," he murmured, ajusting his cuffs.

Hoping there might be a cooler breeze down by the lake, Anubis chose the path winding in that direction. Apparently he wasn't the only one with that idea, finding several others down there. He had to give a snort of amusement - all these single businessmen wandering around in suits (or long leather coats, as Anu preferred). Was anyone really fooled into think they were there for the scenery?

"Pleasant day," one of them said.

Choosing a spot on the shade of a nearby tree, he replied, "I prefer evenings, myself. Our bosses must enjoy our suffering."

Tombs picked up a pebble from the edge of the water, skipping it across a few times. He glanced towards the speakers, wondering why they suddenly gathered together. They stuck out even more together like this and he almost considered walking away.

He turned around, studying him openly. Tombs didnt feel like speaking yet, and remained silent.

Sevelin laughed, a low, comforting sound. Aside from the suit and the pistol lurking under his coat, he REALLY didn't look like he belonged in this conversation. He seemed the happy sort...like one of those family-types, even. "Oh, but it's a lovely day," he murmured, glancing at Anubis before raising an eyebrow at Tombs. "Certainly, there are others out here enjoying the weather. I attempt to make the best of it, regardless."

His smile widened slightly as he looked at Tombs, and he shrugged. "It isn't as if we didn't know why we were out here."

Giving a grunt in reply, Anubis tugged at the neck of his coat. "If you enjoy days at all," he said, tone implying that he didn't. At least certainly not anywhere near the middle of them. "I'd much rather have this over and done with."

Except he realised his boss would probably want him here for as long as the others were. The Egyptian did not relish the idea of being stuck here while some bleached hitman soaked up the sunshine.

He chuckled at the anti-social one. "We look far more suspicious each standing on our own."

"It's funny how you two can bullshit a conversation based on your personal preferences of the current weather situation." Tombs offered, lifting a hand from his pocket to take a fresh cigar smoke from his coat pocket and stick it into his mouth. He grabbed the lighter from his pants pocket, flicking the zippo [*heart*] open and lighting the end.

"It just seems like a lot of forced chatter when we all know why were here, who we are, and what we're going to do in the coming days. I say, cut the s**t- my name is Tombs. And you are?" He gestured vaguely between them, cigar between his index and middle finger as he breathed smoke into the air.

Sev laughed, shaking his hair back over his shoulders and grinning at Tombs. There was a trace of sadness in his shining eyes, as if he were absently missing a part of himself, but he replied calmly...with a slight bow, hand over his heart. "Dr. Sevelin Merrindale, currently in the employ of Mirrior Ballotin. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Tombs." The smile remained in place as he turned to Anubis, amused. "And you, my irritable shadow?"

"Anubis," the Egyptian assassin had no worries about giving his name. He supposed that they were all alike in that manner - nothing and no one tied to their names that could be used against them. "I freelance." And wasn't about to name his employer for this job.

"Well, doesnt this have a school yard flair to it," Tombs grunted, flicking ashes. "I wonder how many of us are out this morning sweating in thier suits." He glanced around, lip curling slightly in a sneer. "Poor bastards."

Sev hummed lightly under his breath, reaching out to flick a tiny spray of snow at Tombs. "If I can tolerate it, I do not think you boys have much to complain about," Winter said with a smile. "It isn't so bad, really. There's shade, after all. It will be worse tomorrow, with so many people on the grounds...all glaring at each other and on edge."

His glance slid back to Anubis, fascinated. He had only seen one Egyptian dou in the past, and his son-in-law (as far as he knew) looked nothing like Anubis. "A pleasure, Anubis," he murmured, wondering who he worked for. "It isn't often I see freelancers in a situation such as this."

Anubis growled softly as the pale man said he had nothing to complain about. Anu was based on night and death. Warm, sunny days were hell on earth. Even in an air-conditioned apartment with blinds drawn he preferred to sleep through the middle of the day.

"Hmph, tomorrow we will at least be occupied." Closing his eyes, Anubis leaned back against the tree trunk. "I fail to see the point of this. Everyone here will see the same thing, makes plans which will no doubt be foiled by someone else... Planning is of little use when everyone is already aware that you're planning."

He gave a small smile as Sev inspected him, used to drawing attention for his looks. "I cannot give you any more information that I already have," he guessed at some of what another assassin or hitman had to be thinking. "I have the reputation I have and gets the jobs I get precisely because I am loyal to my current employer until the contract ends." Which would be tomorrow, whatever happened, and then he could go back to his nocturnal habits.

"So if we hate standing around here so much, let's go get a drink...?" Tombs lifted his eyebrows, leaving the offer open for them to either accept or ignore. "I done watching the 'normal' pricks play at life." He stepped around them both and made his way down the path.

"How could I possibly resist such a cheerful offer?" Sev replied wryly, glancing back over his shoulder at Anubis. "Come, death-god. It will at least be cool and dark wherever Tombs is planning on leading us- shall we follow the Pied Piper and take him up on his offer?"

Mir didn't really need him out here anyways, paranoid b*****d. He reached up into his hair, murmuring a light comment before turning off his radio.

"As long as he's not heading to a sauna, anywhere is better than here," Anubis muttered, following after the pair. A cool drink sounded nice, actually.

Fiery eyes studied Sevelin. It wasn't all that often that people knew who he was based on his name alone. Neither Sev or Tombs seemed aware of his reputation, but even if they were, his origins weren't included in the information he released about himself.

Falling in closer to Sev, he said, "You speak as if you know who I am..."

This could still end nicely... if the man wasn't someone Oracle sent to keep an eye on one of the 'renegade' Egyptians.

Tombs smirked, happy his inviation had been accepted. No one liked to drink alone, not even criminals. It took a few minutes to trek out of the main park, and back to the street. He knew the bars in the area by heart and picked a fairly decent one that would fit his 'guests' tastes.

He pushed the door open to a tinted window'd establishment, heading into the smoke filled room. The faint sound of jazz music or ... some resemblance of it could be heard in the back room.. maybe it was upstairs. Tombs headed for the main bar, nodding to a few people as he passed the set of pool tables.

Stepping into the cool shade of the establishment, Sev smiled and held the door for the last member of their party. "Oh, I only know the legends. My...son-in-law is Egyptian, you see, and after he joined the family I spoke to him often, when he and my bondmate could stand to be civil." That trace of sadnesss again...firmly repressed. "Harahkti was a mine of information. I do not think I've ever found anyone with more stories than he told."

That gave Anubis pause ... for a moment. Shaking his head, he quickly recovered. "I know of no one by the name of 'Harahkti'," he told Sev in cold tones. Anu was not amused that someone was claiming to be part of his family. "Either you are mistaken, or you were deceived. My family share my dark skin and each of us have unusual markings on us, though two of them have lighter hair. Can you say your son-in-law is the same?"

Grateful for the move indoors, Anubis nevertheless found his good mood fading as he took a seat. As if his family hadn't had enough problems without impersonators.

"Harahkti was...no longer Egyptian, when I met him," Sev told Anubis softly, patient. It hurt to mention it; he was very nearly certain that all of his sons were dead. "He had evolved; I believe he was originally Bastet. Perhaps you will remember a very haughty personality, an obsession with religion? He was very well-read, with many degrees in theology. When he fought, he did so with an ancient sword that looked to be of Babylonian origin."

The Winter Doushikai sighed softly, shaking his head. "Truly, I do not think he lied to us or Lou. Evolution causes...many changes that cannot be expected."

Thread RP: Cats & Dogs

The building with it's very modern architecture didn't look like the home and business of an Egyptian god. It's white stone walls and elegant curves were far more suggestive of an upscale yuppy, with too much money to spend on nothing, but the customers seemed to like it...certainly the sign that read 'Reliquary' had been passed by more than it's share of incoming customers. The landscaping was perfect, the statuary tasteful...and the only thing to indicate that it might be otherwise was the quiet ankh hung over the entrance. Several cars were parked in the small parking area, and the sign on the door read 'open.'

One good thing about his job was that it had given Anubis a lot of contacts. A single name wasn't much to go by for most people, but when you gave it to underworld figures... well... you got the address of this place, for starters.

Despite having found the location written down on a square of paper in his pocket, Anubis had been staring at the building for over ten minutes. He felt uncomfortable, and it wasn't just the heat. Was this really where Bastet was? What if he was dead and all coming here would do would be to confirm the fact? What if Bastet was alive, despite Sev's beliefs, and simply wasn't Bastet at all anymore? Losing his Egyptian appearence was one thing - if he'd lost what had made him Bastet, then was he even Anu's family at all? And that would hurt the worst.

A sigh escaped his lips, more of a huff than anything else. "Stupid, what are you waiting for?" he growled to himself. Long fingers tugged at his jacket and the shirt underneath - a rare article for him, revealing just how important the occasion was. "You can face hardened murderers, but not your brother?"

Steeling himself, Anu removed all traces over emotion from his features and strode into the building. Surrounded by antiques, Anu ignored the items, instead fixing his gaze on one of the suited figures. One opened his mouth as Anu strode forward, but the assassin cut off what was either a welcoming spiel or a 'get the hell out of my store, you lower-class scum'.

"I'm looking for B- Harahkti," he corrected himself brusquely. His eyes and bearing said he wasn't taking no for an answer.

"Isn't everyone?" The man asked with a delicately arched eyebrow, taking in Anu's...unusual appearance. After a moment, however, he gave a breif nod- something in that attire or the way Anubis held himself was enough to get him past the first barrier. "Down this hallway you will find the viewing rooms. Master Harahkti is supervising a new display; you will find him in the third arena."

Anubis nodded and turned to head in the direction indicated. Privately he was glad he hadn't had to shoot or threaten anyone. Nerves returned as he walked down the hallway. How many Harahkti's could there be? But if it wasn't him... well, better not to think that way.

Passing the first two doors, he gave a low snarl to pick up his spirits before opening the third. A long room stretched before him, objects and cases being set up like a small museum. "Still doing everything over-the-top," he muttered without even realising it.

Entering the room, he stuck to the shadows as he looked for this 'Harahkti' person. He'd rather not be the first one spotted, so he carefully scented the air, looking for even the smallest traces of the scent that had been Bastet.

Several other assistants were at work in this room, laboring over the many empty display cases and bringing in new artifacts for the gallery. A sharp voice could be heard snapping orders at them, accompanied by the blur of a white coat in the background; the voice wasn't the same, but it was very familiar. Changed.

It would be a cold day in hell before Harahkti missed an entrance into one of his rooms, no matter who's steps were marring his pretty wood floors. "This is a sealed area, it isn't yet open for viewing-" he started irritably...and then stopped dead in his strides forward, much to the fascination of his people. Skin that was once as golden as Anu's had turned to black and white fur, black hair to blue, and his lips were touched with blood red...but he still carried the same arrogance he had always worn. A preist's collar showed black under his fur-trimmed white coat, startling over his gloved hands. "...Anubis?!"

Entrance noted, Anubis narrowed his eyes and strode forward. He could match Bastest for arrogance when he wanted, and he did so now, behaving as if he had every right to stalk through his brother's workplace.

Burning red eyes took in the new appearence, the strange fur and decidedly non-Egyptian colours. Staring down at Harahkti, Anubis wondered if this was evolution or regression at play. He certainly couldn't believe that shifting form to something closer to the everyday masses was somehow moving higher in the evolutionary chain. They were Gods!

Expression remaining cold as he neared, Anu kept up his arrogance. He ignored the workers as he stopped in front of Hara, hands clasping his brother's shoulders to keep him in place, and bent slightly to bury his face in Hara's neck. Breathing deeply, his enhanced senses finally picked up that elusive trace of Egyptian along with a tiny portion of 'Bastet'.

A contented noise sounded in the back of his throat as he eventually drew back, though kept his hands in place. "You've been gone too long, little kitten," he said in his soft, deep tones. "Rumours have you as dead."

"Treat me not as some cute little cousin, Anubis," Hara growled, but there was old affection in his tone as his hands came up to touch his brother's hair. His shock at Anu's closeness wore off into a craving for more of the same, and he stepped closer to rest his forehead on Anubis' chest in a rare show of softness.

"Not dead...only mostly so," he murmured. "I have been on Imperial since Ogre left for it, you knew this. I enjoyed my stay. Still...it is good to see you again." His ears drooped slightly, laying back against his head as his tail twitched.

"Hmph, you cannot match Aren for that position, I'm afraid," he rumbled into Harahkti's hair, placing an arm around his 'brother'. Despite his claims of independance, he missed his pack. It was too hard to visit the others and face Ra, but her was family without the bother of facing their Head. Even if Bastet could be just as prickly, at times.

"I ran into someone recently who claimed you were dead," he explained. "Or at least was left with the impression that you were." Holding Hara tighter and nuzzling at his hair, Anu gently reprimanded him, "You should have come home."

"I have not...been so fortunate, as to remain whole," Hara whispered, sagging ever so slightly against his brother. His people vacated the room like lightning, old hands at knowing their master's temper. He pushed away from Anubis, prowling around the room uneasily. "I was not fit to return to polite company for some time. After that...nothing truly seemed important."

Indeed, he seemed the worse for wear. His coat hid an overly thin body, and his fur was missing the luster that previously touched his hair. His eyes, however, were just as sharp as always as he turned back to face his companion. "Who told you I was dead?"

"Since when have we been polite?" Anu raised an eyebrow, remembering the fights and arguments before he'd finally moved out. "We'd rather have had you with us than not know anything..."

Sharp eyes caught the signs of malnutrition and lack of care on Harahkti. "I still think you should come home. You're not taking care of yourself, B- Harahkti." It was going to take some getting used to, this new name and appearence for his brother.

He shrugged when asked who'd told him about Harahkti. "An assassin... Sev, or something like that. Said you were his son-in-law." Anu watched Hara closely. Sev had also thought his son was dead. A bad reaction was coming sooner or later - and later probably meant worse, so Anu was kind of hoping for sooner.

Hara barked a laugh, turning back to his displays with long fingers splayed over the glass. "Sevelin, an assassin? Highly unlikely." Memories surfaced, and he faced them ruthlessly- Sev's cookies, Urien's glares...Urien's strong hands in an evening-lit garage, and later Lou surrounded by broken glass and hopelessness. He felt so right in my arms-

A harsh breath, and his fist clenched against the glass as his head turned sharply away. "I have not been fit for any comapny, Anubis. My bondmate is dead to me; I did not know Sevelin was alive, myself. I...left Lou behind on Imperial. Insane." Bitter laughter- his hollowed eyes seemed to fit more, now that he didn't have an audience. These days, he had no one at all he could trust like his brothers. Like Anubis, in particular. Strange, how the cat and the dog suited each other so well.

"I only know how I met him and what he is doing now," Anubis replied. "You of all people should be aware how people can change."

Huffing softly, Anubis crossed to Hara's side and hugged him again. Pressing lips to the top of the kitten's head, he said, "You are my pack. You are always fit for my company - especially when you think you aren't."

What must it have been like, to be bonded? To then lose someone, knowing they weren't dead but still firmly out of reach? Bastet had suffered so much, and all alone.

"I am sorry for what you went though," he said. "You shouldn't be alone. You should come back and be with your family."

"...Perhaps," Hara whispered, closing his eyes and leaning back against his taller brother. "Not the others, not yet. I would...not be opposed to more of your company, however."

His smile was wan, fragile but honest; it was as if the base layers of his strength had started to rebuild now that he had someone to anchor to. Bastet never did well without someone to love him, no matter what the relationship. Adoration was preferred...but this was more real. "Can you stay for tea?"

"Of course," Anu replied, even though tea had never been a favoured drink of his. He was not opposed to spending more time with Harahkti, however. He'd stay as long as he could.

And over tea he would let Hara know that he no longer lived with the others and definintely had room for a stray kitten in his apartment. His brother needed someone to look after him - he certainly wasn't doing a good job of it himself. If need be, he'd take Hara back against his will, but the afternoon had given him promise that Hara wouldn't be against coming back with him. It was time to spend some time with family again.

Thread RP: Family Fued

Aren- ::curls up to Anubis::

Anu: *pets Aren* Maybe soon you'll meet another one of your uncles... (tho he looks a little weird these days).

Aren- ::looks up:: Ahh? That'd be cool! ::smiles brightly, happy to be pet::

Anu: You'll have to be very nice to him ^^

Aren- ::leans against, playing with one of Anubis' claws:: I will. I promise! ::smiles:: He's not a doctor is he? ::bits lip:: I don't know if I could be too nice to one of them..

Anu: *laughs gently* No, he's not a doctor. He sells antiques *flexes the claw for Aren*

Aren- ::smiles, almost 'ooing' at the claw:: That's cool. I saw some pretty tea cups in an antique shop the other week

Anu: Maybe he can take you shopping and help you get some good deals, then *flexes all the claws in turn*

Hara: *not in a damn million years would he sink so low as to go 'bargain-hunting'* *wet cat shudder*

Aren- Ooo ::smiles, looking up again:: That would be fun. Would you come? ::tilts head:

Horus: *watches, twirling a falcon feather between his fingers idly* Adorable...

Anu: I meant go through antique shops and tell the kid if they're fakes or not *pets Hara and then Aren* And yes, I would do with you both.

Aren- ::tilts head, watching the exchange before smiling again:: Yay! ::tilts head at Hara.. thinks he looks .. familiar::

Ra :: *appears* twisted

Aren- ::jumps up, hugs Ra:; Grandpa!!

Horus: *walks up and hugs him* How rare.. You're out of bed.

Ra :: *offers an annoyed look to Horus, growls* .... *hugs Aren* ^__^ <3

Horus: *hurt stare* ... *walks sits down near Anubis*

Aren- ::smiles happily, contently hugging Ra:: heart

Ra: >_>... *cackles, snuggles Aren*

Anu: *leans against Horus, keeping a careful eye on Ra*

Aren- ::kisses his cheek:: ^-^ ::wants to sit on Ra's lap::

Horus: *stares at Aren* He can get away with anything.....
.... lucky child.

Horus: *idly plays with Anubis' hair, tying falcon feathers into it*

Ra :: *curls up w/ Aren, lazy yawn*

Anu: And here I thought you spent enough time in Ra's lap, hmm? * smirks before fingering one of the feathers in his hair* I'm gonna have a kitten batting at those later, no doubt *sighs*

Horus: I don't spend any time in his lap. He sleeps all day. *says particularly loud* He's... lazy.

Aren- ::smiles slightly, giggling at Horus' comment:: You do sleep alot.. :;nuzzles him, begins to braid Ra's hair::

Ra :: *glances at him, eyes narrow* I'm not too lazy that I can't get up from here and give you a reply to that Horus. Don't test my patience.

Aren- ::keeps mouth smartly shut, continues to braid Ra's hair::

Horus' eyes slid to the side as he looked at Ra without even turning his head. "I'd like to see you move that much." He said with a sharp bite of spite. Horus hated to be teased, and it seemed Ra excelled at doing just that.

Anu: Really *smirks* He'll get fat if he's not careful...

Ra bristled, anger threatening to escape the tiny bit of control he was exibiting.

"... very well." He smacked Aren's hands away from him, standing to his feet in a woosh of robes and left.

Sitting up Aren bit his lip, Uh oh.. this will not end well. Pulling his hair over his shoulder in a nervous gesture he watched his family intently.

Anu: *plays with Hor's hair* Uh oh... we've pissed him off again...

Horus frowned some, lined eyes flickering to the ground. He was regretting that small little display.

"... not .. in that direction." Horus sighed, sinking back a bit in the chair as his hands lowered away from Anubis' hair.

Settling back in his seat, Anu gave Horus a nudge and a rueful smile. "Hadn't you better go kiss and make up?"

"Shush." Horus huffed, reaching back and clipping his hair back up. He was definitely in trouble for that little display. But more than in trouble, he was not expecting Ra to have been so sensitive to it. Horus glanced back at Anubis as he stood up, then randomly leaned down and kissed the corner of his lips. "Be good." He whispered, pulling away and going after Ra

Chewing his lip for a moment, he tugged a knot out of his hair. "They'll be okay.. right Anu-khal?" he asked Anubis, his eyes worried.

Anu huffed and gave a flicker of a smile. "When am I ever good?" Leaning on one elbow, he looked towards Aren. "Yeah, they'll be fine. Looks like we're on our own again..."

Smiling a little, Aren jumped up to stand infront of Anubis. "May I braid your hair?" he asked happy just to spend a few moments with the Uncle he hardly ever sees.

Horus paces outside of room Ra has locked him out of. "I know you're in there."

Ra: *angry snarl, paces around* >>..

Blinking, Anubis smiled a little. "I guess so. Can't hurt."

As long as he took it out before going back to work and trying to intimidate lowlifes again. But he had nothing against letting Aren have his fun. And it was nice t be fussed over sometimes.

With a happy sound, Aren crawled on Anubis' lap. Smiling, he pulled a section of the long hair over Anubis' shoulder and began to braid, humming a song happily. "Anu-khal.. what do you do when you're not here?"

Horus stood there for a long time, not leaving the door no matter how tired he got or how much he wanted to sit down or just bang on the door until it opened or broke beneath his fist. Eventually, he was leaning completely on the door and the doorframe.

"Well," not sure how to answer, Anu paused and thought for a moment. "I work, I sleep... I read... The usual things. Probably the same things you do here while I'm away."

Ra stalked across his room, glaring back at the door briefly.

"Go away Horus," He hissed. "I have no desire to see you or listen to you any longer."

Smiling again for his uncle, Aren nodded. "Ahh... That's good. Atleast you're busy. When you left I thought you'd be bored.. or lonely." Beginning to work on a new section he showed how fast his slim fingers could do this simple task.

Horus finally gave in and pulled the key to the room out of his pocket. He would have prefered to have been let into the room. There was a click at the door and suddenly it swung open, Horus sliding into the room with the intent to close the door just behind him. "I was not going to intrude, except I sleep here too." He had not yet made eye contact with Ra, and he could feel the tension in the air as he knew Ra did not want to see him in this room right now. It was dangerous to be standing there.

".. not anymore. If you want to sleep somewhere, I suggest you trot back to Anubis and ask him for a place." Ra flicked a hand towards the door, which flew open to let him out. "Leave."

Horus stood there for just a moment before growling. "Fine then." He said, although any anger had dropped from his voice despite the growl. Horus turned around and left the room. He had been so ready a moment before speaking to argue with Ra to the ends of the earth about it, but it had left him like the fleeting wind. He's so stubborn. He thought with a frown. Horus settled on a couch outside and sat there deep in thought for several hours, changing positions a few times, until he fell asleep sitting up, but leaning against the corner of the couch. His hair was still clipped up. One arm resting on the side of the couch, the other in his lap.

Ra closed the doors after him, heading into the back of his rooms to sit and work on tinkering with the tiny ornate mechanical things he made and sold. He mumbled to himself, still angry... for no real reason. XD;;

After a while, Anubis decided to check that Ra hadn't killed Horus. He approached cautiously - checking that Ra wasn't doing anything else to Horus that he didn't want to interrupt. No sounds at all. Not good.

Huffing, not really wanting to interfere but not wanting Horus to take the blame for things he'd had a hand in, Anu rapped at the door. "It's unlike you to concede the field so easily," he called.

Ra bristled again, glaring over his shoulder at the door.

"YOU are the LAST thing I'd like to see right now," He barked. "Go terrorize someone else- I'm busy." He turned back around, carefully putting together a tiny mechanical bird.

"I'm the last person you should be seeing right now," he replied, voice still even and low. "If you were planning on pawning Horus off on me until you feel like speaking to him again, sorry, I have a houseguest. You remember Bastet? He's not doing well and I'm looking after him because he doesn't want to face the rest of you."

Burning eyes narrowed, voice dropping to a growl. "However, if you make such a stupid offer once Hara's better then I'll take you up on it. I'll steal Horus from you. Then I'll take Aren as well, and leave you all alone. I left because I couldn't take this family from you. Don't be so stupid as to suddenly give it up to me - I will take it."

More of a warning than Ra even deserved. Except if it happened, he could now even say 'I told you so'. Plus there was the fact that Horus would be miserable if Ra abandoned him so easily.

Thread RP: Family Fued, Pt 2

Ra set the tiny mechanical bird he'd been messing with aside slowly, placing his hands onto the desk and pushing himself to his feet. The tiny metal ornaments on his coat made faint little sounds as he moved, turning around to face Anubis with dark eyes. His gold clawed fingers flexed at his sides, but he didn't move any further.

"You're mistaken, Anubis." Ra's voice was cold, calm. "The only way you'd get any part of this family or anything else that belongs to me is if I gave it to you." He stepped forward, coat whispering across the floor behind him. "Everything you have is discarded from my table- you're nothing but the house dog, Anubis." The former snarl crept back into his voice. "Now leave my house."

Once upon a time that woud have sent Anubis into a rage of his own. This time, although his temper began to flame, there was something reassuring about it. This time, it only added an edge to his mood, rather than overtaking everything else.

"Be careful, Ra," he cautioned with a feral grin. "Your cracks are beginning to show. Everything I have is something that chose to leave you. You're two down so far - how long til one of your remaining two gets sick of being pushed around and decides to follow?"

The snarl in Ra's voice set his hackles on edge. As much as Anubis would love to fight, it had already been firmly established that he couldn't beat the sun god that way. "Fine, I'm leaving," he shrugged and turned to go. Over one shoulder, he added, "If you sleep better thinking of me as a dog, feel free to delude yourself. I'm the wolf snapping at your heels, Ra, just waiting for you to slip up and fall."

Ra's expression smoothed over into a smile, hands clasped behind his back. "Think as you wish Anubis, if that makes you sleep better a night." Ra's smile broadened into a leer, eyebrows raising slightly. "I sleep perfectly."

He watched him leave, turning back around and mumbling, "Mangy flea-ridden mutt..."

Eyes narrowing, Anubis missed a step as Ra's mutterings travelled clearly to him - no doubt just as intended. "Miserable, fat old man," he snarled back, knowing the hallway would echo it back to the vampiric dou.

For starters, he didn't sleep at night. And the only reason Ra slept well was because of Horus - who he'd just pushed away, again.

Snarling and stalking back out to the front entrance, Anu consoled himself by thinking of the houseguest he now had. Even if it was only for a while, he had family that Ra didn't. And the fat lecher could sit and spin on that.

As Anubis exited the room, Horus looked over at him quietly. For a few moments he didn't speak. They had been quiet enough that he could not hear any of the words, but he had still be woken up in the process. He wondered what had been said so much. He wasn't sure if Anubis had noticed him at all.

"Leaving?" He inquired, reaching up to fix his hair or do something equally inconspicuous.

Anubis paused when Horus called out. Offering a small hint of a smile, he replied, "It seems to be the wisest course of action for now. I had been hoping to prod him into some form of action, but as usual he would rather attack me personally."

And Anubis thoroughly enjoyed doing the same back, but that was besides the point.

"You should try talking to him again," the god of death suggested. "I left him in a foul mood, but at least it was a foul mood aimed at me. He may be more amenable to your... attentions now." Anu looked away, never entirely comfortable with the relationship between Ra and Horus.

Horus stood up. "You assume too much." He sighed, slowly walking over to Anubis and wrapped his arms around him, hugging him. "Next time I hope these visits are a bit more.. pleasent." He gave him a warm squeeze and pulled away. "Aren is outside. Don't forget to say goodbye to him. He'll be very dissapointed if you just leave, like last time."

Horus stepped back and turned, heading for Ra's room again. He stopped at the door without even knocking and looked at it for a minute. "You said to go away..." Horus called, quietly. "I'll be two doors down... if you have anything to say."

The falcon god turned sharply then to leave for the other bedroom.

Anubis waited until Horus had left the room before allowing himself to sigh. He rubbed a hand over his face and wondered why it felt so good to have someone's arms around him, especially when said arms already belonged to Ra.

"These visits are never pleasant," he muttered to himself as he went in search of Aren. "That's why they became 'visits', rather than me living here."

Wandering out to the gardens, he looked around for his 'nephew'. "Aren?" he called.

The little God of the Arts literally popped out from a bush, flowers in his hand. He had been picking flowers to do an arrangement for the dinning room table. He had roses, tigerlilies, carnations and a few other exotic flowers that grew in their garden.

"Anu-khal are you leaving?" he asked crawling out of the bush, almost tripping ones but easily regaining his balance. He looked slightly upset at the idea of Anubis leaving so soon.

A tiny mechanical bird floated out after Horus, the size of a humming bird but made out of gold, silver, and covered in a few sparklies. It flapped metal wings across his shoulder and floated to the ground, sitting there on the floor for a minute before chiming like a mini-clock at him.

Crouching down, Anubis gave his nephew a small smile before ruffling his hair. "Sorry, little one," he apologised in his low, calm voice. "Ra would prefer I wasn't here, and this once I am inclined to agree. He and your uncle Horus need to work things out and my presence only makes things worse..."

He always felt bad that the friction with Ra made it almost impossible to spend time with the rest of his family, but Anu hid it well. "I'll make sure to see you again soon, alright?" asked Anubis. "We just might have to meet in the city, not here."

Horus stopped to avoid stepping on the small creature. He crouched down after it chimed and picked it up, looking at it. "A bird..." Horus smiled a bit. "Cute, Ra. Giving and taking life still..." Horus held the tiny device in his palm, looking it over. He had been half tempted ask the bird if he was spending the night with him.

Aren smiled softly nodding, "They fight a lot.. but it never lasts long.." he said bright teal eyes showing more knowledge then most gave him credit for.

Bitting his lip, Aren tilted his head to side, "May I come with you? I promise I won't be trouble! Please Anu-khal?"

Red eyes widened in shock as Aren asked the very thing Anu had just been warning Ra about. Only... he hadn't thought it would affect him so much. Features softening against his will, he pulled Aren forward into a tight hug.

"Maybe later, little one," he pressed a kiss to the top of Aren's head. "I'm looking after someone at the moment and company would be bad for them. Maybe when they're feeling better..."

Ra would kill him if he actually made off with part of "Ra's" family ... but maybe it would be worth it...

Aren smiled slightly, small arms hugging Anubis back. "Okay. I'm going to hold you to that! If you don't come back.. I'll.. I'll go looking for you!" he said not able to think of a suitable threat.

Standing on his tip toes, he put one of the flowers into Anubis' hair, weaving it in before smiling, "There! Perfect. " He said smiling brightly. He'd put a maganolia into his hair, not one of the huge flowers but a smaller one. The flower seemed to fit him in Arens mind. It meant Diginity.

Anubis certainly didn't feel dignified with a flower in his hair, but wouldn't upset his nephew by removing it. At least it wasn't something huge and birghtly coloured that would be sure of attracting attention.

"Well, we couldn't have you mad at me," Anu teased gently. Giving Aren's hair one last ruffle, he stood. "I'll be seeing you sometime soon, then."

Aren gave one of his brightest smiles, nodding. "Okay!" he said walking with his uncle to the gates, stopping there. "Be careful, Anu-khal.." he said sweetly. He was happy with the knowledge that he'd get to see his uncle again.

Anubis nodded and smiled at Aren. "Of course," he agreed. Having a family he was now expected or promising to one day look after was a double-edged sword. On one hand, it gave him something to fight for and a good reason not to die during his work. On the other, it was something to worry over more than ever.

"You be careful yourself," he cautioned Aren. "I wouldn't let Ra know what you're planning..."

With a final ruffle of hair and a wave, he walked off.
