It can be translated at Liza, but Riza is propper. One of the earlier eps for the dub (7 or 8..It was some where around there) marked her as Major Liza Hawkeye, but it's supposed to be 2nd Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye. However, they made a quick correction to that during ep 27 last night when Mustang calls in Breda, Falman, Havoc, Fury, and Hawkeye to talk about the promotions. Roy call's her 1st Lieutenant (which is correct for that part of the series, earlier she was a 2nd Lieutenant and then promoted) Riza Hawkeye. So even in the US Dub they call her Riza ^^

dammit... the least they could do is do a thorough research first when translating. it won't be THAT hard since they already have the fansubs, manga scanlations and guide books for reference. lazy asses! i bet they're not even sure if it's winRy or winLy yet. scream

I am pissed about the rank screw up. I liked it better with Riza as a Major. For some reason it made more sense.

the rank "major" is actually 2 ranks higher than first lieutenant. she'll have to be a captain first before reaching major so by the time she'll reach major, she'd have subordinates of her own. That means she'll have her own team but will still regard Roy as her superior officer but won't be working directly under him like she does now. Take Armstrong for examples.
i first thought that her name was really Lisa... but as time passed by, I found the sound of the name Riza (which was the official spelling) a stronger sounding name than Lisa. Funny how hearing the name Lisa referring to Hawkeye irks me now.
sorry for being such a p***k when it comes to such details... i'm an onbsessive complusive when it comes to these things -- especially when i buy toys.

I'm thankful that Viz has NO connection to the anime translation wise. I think there doing a pretty good job from what I've seen of the manga
