This may sound crude, but I think Zerith will only be popular enough to be used as a mega weapon in debates against Clorith's. CloTis can use Zerith against Cloriths to further prove their point that Tifa and Cloud are "meant for each other".
That's what I think.

The question here I think is will Zeris become a popular shipping couple, and I think the answer is yes. The amount of beautiful fanart flowing from DeviantArt is proof of such.
Of course, Cloti/supporters will use Zeris in their debates, but on a seperate debate. Cloti can't say, "Zeris is canon therefore Cloti is as well." Zeris being canon proves that Cleris isn't, and then it's up to Cloti to prove that Cloti itself on it's own is also canon. Which can be done, but it's foolish to assume one equals the other. All it does in the end is shows that one member of the opposition pairing is not involved, therefore taking away part of the argument that the opposition is intended.

Well, it certainly is a weapon, I won't deny it, but it ain't our only weapon. 3nodding However, Zeris only popular as a weapon isn't true because all around I'm seeing a growth in popularity in Zeris. (Fanfiction) Even Cleris fans can be fans of Zeris.

Or the many Cleris fans who are giving up the fight, and our still fans, but have realized Zeris is the canon and have begun to support it because of CC.

As much as I love Zerith, I won't admit it's canon. It's a game of the past, and although it has lots of symbolic-ness and whatnot, I still support Clorith as canon. But that's just me.
Of course, when it comes down to it, I would also like to think the storyline itself has no canon couple, because there's too many. Far too many. o-o;; It's like a swirl of canon and facts in a never-ending typhoon.

Obviously not all Cleris supporters are becoming Zeris ones, but it is happening. I think after they start showing you that everything Aeris does with Cloud is Zack related, it's hard to see any Cleris as anything but a facade. When they become so straight forward as to say her feelings for Zack explain her relationship/actions with Cloud, well... that means that's what they want you to get from the story. It also means that she still has those feelings for Zack when the game starts, and that those feelings cause her to act the way she does in the game. Therefore, the canon is in the game, she's still in love with him. Anything that she does with Cloud is a direct result of her feelings for Zack, plan and simple.
I mean, on Cloud's side it's hard to deny he's romantically with Tifa because the creators have said they both reveal their feelings for one another in the game. The canon couples are very simple and layed out from a canon perspective.
You can interpret literature anyway you want, and no one can say you are 'wrong'. It's just from a canon-vs-non canon perspective, it's been made clear.
Cleris is a cute pairing, and I'd support it more if there were more supporters who understood it's only fanon. I've met a few people, and we talked about it a bit and it's fun. It's just a shame they are hard to find, because most of them get scared to say they like the pairing for fear of being categorized as someone who tries so hard to make it sound canon. *sigh*

Cleris shippers who know it's fanon have trouble because if you say, "I'm a Cleris shipper", it's automatically assumed that you think it's canon and you debate it. Not their fault, it's just the way things are. And even then, if you say you know it's fanon, the hardcore Cleris believers end up shunning you, and then it makes it hard to find anyone else to ship with.
You can find nice shippers who think it's canon, and there are lots who know it's not... but they are spread so thin... they can't really come together because they'll get attacked by rabid Cloti and rabid Cleris.

Ya, it's kind of a shame, but oh well... can't be helped. Though if ACF ever comes back I might plan on making a club for CxA fans, as friends or romantically, faux Cloud or real Cloud, so that they have a place to chat. Even if you don't say anything negative about their relationship, if you support Cloti elsewhere, you aren't welcome in the devotion club.

"I have in my hands the means, and in my heart, the will." Yes. Start an alliance thread! That's what I want to do. Cloti and Cleris fans. : ) No LTD allowed.
Psh, Devotion is stupid. Clotis are all heathens and aren't allowed to post, even if it's Cleris friendly. (Because obviously all Clotis have Cloti views even if they aren't LTD'ing, omg!)
And hey, why limit the alliance to just Cloti and Cleris? Of course those two sides "fight" the most, but let's make it Cloud shipping friendly, lol. With anyone! XD

Ya, rabids are lame.
Well, the other Cloud shipping clubs are very open and friendly. Like the Cloti and Clack fandom. As you said though, as long as somewhere else on the internet you think Cloti is canon, you aren't allow to ship Cleris with the people in Devotion. So, a place where you are allowed would be fun.
