The Ghostly Gentleman

PostPosted: Thu Apr 17, 2008 7:06 pm

This genin was something else. He had a good mind and a good sense of reality to boot, Sachi liked him. Although, some of his designs were impratical and would not be very good in a fast paced three way battle...Sachi needed something more flexible...

"How about something with...wires." he simply stated.

Sachi was, at heart, a wire shinobi. He used wires for most of his weapon based attacks and a sound weapon based around wires would be perfect for him.

"I'll pay any amount, just as long as the weapon is worth it. I want a weapon with flexibility, with wires, with sound capabilities. Give me something good and I will pay you well and maybe something a little extra." giving the genin a little incentive.

"Something extra?" he mused. "I'm Genin. I need to eat, sure, but for the unknown, recognition is worth more than gold. A single word in the right ears is better than a thousand coins."

For a few minutes, Westly said nothing, deeply in thought. Wires would be tricky. He had heard tales of ninja that fought with marionettes as weapons. It seemed absurd and impractical, but those same tales claimed it was a viable technique. If only I had a specimen to examine, I could replicate the technology, he thought, but 'if only' never saved a pigeon.

Westly's train of thought drifted slowly outside of the proverbial box. Was a chain a wire? A nunchaku with the wooden pieces connected by wires instead of chains might work. Westly made a mental note of the idea, and tagged it as "Practical but Boring". As an afterthought, he appended "Wire Kusarigama" to the end of the "Wire Nunchaku" idea. Same principle, but a Kusarigama just seemed more interesting somehow. He'd let the customer choose.

He thought back to his previous ideas. The quarterstaff was a bust, but the crossbow... the crossbow had a wire in it already. Well, technically it was a drawstring or whatever they called it--he'd look it up--but it could be made from wires.

Finally, Westly came up with one of his more traditionally outlandish ideas: "Rocket-Propelled Bolas". A length of wire with two small bottle rockets attached to each end. If aimed properly, they'd fly past their targets on either side, and circle around, trapping the opponent... Mentally, Westly filed the idea away in deep storage. Hilarious, but it seemed too impractical. Keep it simple, stupid, he berated himself.

Westly sketched out the best idea of the three. "Wire Nunchaku," he said in description. "If you block with the wire, it goes taut like a thick guitar string. Simple, effective, and anytime you block, you can get a jutsu off. I'll fiddle around with the materials until I find a wire that's thin and flexible but still strong. I had some other ideas I could tinker with, but this is probably the most straightforwardly effective."

Tougura walked into the shop and raised a groggy eyebrow as he looked around. The shop was...unconventional, to say the least, though something about it seemed to draw him in.

It's rather funny that a genin would be able to run an establishment like this. he gave a mental chuckle at this thought and continued to browse through the oddities.

Shin had herd so much about this shop through advertisements in the village square, so he decided to pay a visit to this shop and maybe purchase something from it. He opened the door entering it, ducking his head from hitting the top due to his height. He flipped his dread locks to the back of his head to get a better view of the shop, until he saw Sachi and Tougura. ”I wonder what they could be doing here?” He said to himself. But not to be rude he waved at the two. “Hey Sachi and Tougura.” He said in a cheerful upbeat manner. “Boy I haven’t really seen either of you for some time now…how’s it been going with the both of you?”

Tougura gave a half-wave at Shin as he picked up what appeared to be a gyroscope.

"It's not bad Shin." he replied without looking up, but set the object down nonetheless.

"So far, being a chunin hasn't been much more difficult than being a genin." he poked at another object before looking up to Shin and asking,

"What're you doing here, come to pick up a..." he picked up another metallic object and twisted it in his hand.

'metallic...apple?"

“Nah I came here to buy some blank paper seals and scrolls, plus some smokes, for my boredom.” He looked around the shelves and picked out what he needed and sat it on the counter, now all he had to do is just wait for westly to finish business with Tougura and Sachi. “say we never did celebrate the two of you becoming chunin, and Sachi is on his way of becoming a jounin, how about I treat the both of you at the bar if the both of you aren’t to busy. He said while rubbing the back of his head, hoping they would say yes, Shin had not seen either sachi or Tougura for a while now and he wanted to do some catching up.

Westly appeared out of the mists and spoke. "Actually, Sachi's talking to a mist clone. As are you two, for that matter. Simpler than hiring help and just as effective if you can think fast enough to multitask like I can. It's good training, too. I just zip in with a substitution technique whenever I need to, say, pick something up."

Maintaining an illusory clone indefinitely took relatively little chakra, but incredible amounts of control and wits. It spoke volumes to Westly's ability to make more from less, to make do with little real power.

"So..." he said. "The sorts of paper goods you're looking for are over in the reagents section, Shin. Don't touch anything that looks like it's alive, though, would you? I'm not Chaos, but I sometimes dabble with rare herbs, some of which don't like people. I'm currently researching how to animate inanimate objects. Candyfloss butterflies that actually flutter about, and such.

"Also," he continued, "I wouldn't really call them 'smokes', but I have a wide selection of rare leaves. Tea, mostly, but I also deal in quality imported tobacco, if you don't mind rolling them yourself."

Shin turned his head towards the original Westly, he hoped. “Well I already have everything I need right here on the counter. Oh and as for the imported tobacco I guess I’d take it off you’re hands.” Shin reached into his pocket and pulled his wallet out and looked towards Weastly. “Is a 20 good?”.

Tougura gave Shin a light smack in the back of the head when he mentioned "smokes".

"C'mon Shin. You couldn't keep up at the chunin exams with perfect lungs. What makes you think it'll do good to way yourself down." he set the apple down and quickly pulled his hand away from the table as, he swore, he saw something move under the pile.

"Y'know Shin...I may just take you up on that offer." he was, of course, referring to the party Shin had said they should hold.

"Maybe we could snag something from the bar if Echo-kun isn't feeling too pissy today."

The only reason I’ve started to smoke is because I'm bored and when I get bored I start to get a little irritable, besides it’s not like I’m going to continue doing it, unless I become very bored. It's been too quiet around the village lately, like the calm before the storm. Damn I need a mission to do. He Changed the subject when he herd Echo’s name being mentioned. So Echo is the dude from last years exams right? I haven’t really met him before.

Westly blinked as a thought occurred to him. He spoke to Shin. "Wait, how old are you again? No, on second thought, don't answer that. I'm not sure what the local laws are around here, but if Manndar can get into a drunken brawl, I'm not gonna card people."

Westly took Shin's money and wrapped his goods up in a little bag. "Ikite yo," he said as a farewell. "Ikiru" was the Japanese word for "to live", and "ikite" was the imperative conjugation. "Yo" or "Ne" simply added emphasis. It was an odd farewell from an odd fellow.

Yama entered the front door of the strange shoop and walked to Westly at the front desk. "Howdy, do you have any of that chakra paper, the one that tells you your chakra type", he asked Westly?

Westly smiled at the newcomer. "Sure, it's over in the reagents section. Good to see you again, Yama. How's the swashbuckler doing?"
PostPosted: Thu Apr 24, 2008 4:38 pm

" It's good to see you too bud", Yama replied walking to the reagents section and grabbing a set of papers. He then walked up and paid more than the exact amount for the goods. " Keep the change, I got a new Genin friend that I'm trying to help train. Stop by some time", he said walking out the store and trowing his hand up lazily. "Later"

"Ikite!" said Westly.

...wait, where am I supposed to meet him? The hospital? The Genin Dojo? His house? Eh, I'll figure it out.
