The First Meeting Before The Game Rafael hadn't had one playdate in his life, at least so far as he could recall. Why he was being led along by the firm grip of his mother's hand to a foreign was a mystery to him. Of course, it wasn't really. He knew he was supposed to be going to meet another kid, a little girl, whom he had apparently known all his life but whose face he could not remember for the life of him. He also knew he had to be nice, or else.
At this point in his life he was not as dedicated to what were reffered to as his 'chores', changing baby diapers, corralling his three brothers, and cleaning the house, but he did wonder what constitute a day off. Apparently it was important. He couldn't help but be mildly curious about the special occassion, and shuffled mildly as he stood before the door to the woman-friend of his mother's home. He did not glance to his mother, instead keeping his dark eyes straight ahead as she rapped on the door to signal their arrival.
"Francisco, will you please get the door for me?" Came the voice of Isabella Ruiz as she put the finishing touches on her young daughter's hair. She would look nice for her playdate if it was the last thing she did! Little Zyanya, however, was having none of it. Up until now she was allowed to do whatever she really wanted to so long as she minded the new baby every now and then (she was not allowed to do much, as she was only five) and right now she honestly didn't want to sit still while her mother did her hair. She wanted to go back to her puzzle that sat in the corner.
But today she wasn't allowed to play alone with her puzzles. Today she was going to be meeting someone who she really didn't remember but was supposed to. This frustrated the girl, and instead of fighting with her mother over her hair she'd sat and tried very hard to remember. But the time for remembering was over, now, wasn't it? Her daddy was getting the door, and she could hear voices.
"Francisco! Is it them? Déjelos adentro!"
"Hola, Francisco," Greeted Mrs. Perez as the door swung open, offering a tight smile that was characteristic of her. She was somewhat worried, yet also glad that her son was able to not only get away from the home, but to also meet the sweet little daughter of her friend. Things would go well, she hoped. Rafael was all groomed today, his inky black hair parted and brushed back from his face so that the delicate, semi-tanned features were exposed for all to see. Good clothes, too, and clean because they were new. Oh yes, he looked quite the little gentleman if she did say so herself! And hopefully he'd act the part.
"Oh Isabella, una pequeña flor!" She would gasp as she craned her head in attempt to see within the confines of the house and navigate around the man at the door, son in tow. Rafael tromped after her as quickly as his legs could keep up, trying not to make an obvious show that he was searching for the little girl his mother was cooing over. "Zyanya, you look so beautiful! Just like a little lady!" She was overjoyed. Rafael was briefly reminded of the cat that his brothers had tied tin cans to and set free again in the market.
So this was her, was it? Rafael was skeptical. She certainly didn't look like the type that would be any fun to play with. His sister certainly wasn't, though it was probably different since she was only a baby right now and capable of little more than squalling. But he found himself being pushed forward within the next moment with a hand against his back, causing him to step closer to the girl. The silence from his mother was expectant, so colorlessly he offered, "Hola, mi nombre es Rafael. Y tú?"

A Researching We Go Solo Role Play
Zyanya didn't stick around long after the entire dine and dash fiasco. Already she had decided that she would, eventually, go back and pay for what she had consumed at the restaurant. It was against everything she believed in to steal and that was, essentially, exactly what she had done. Unfortunately, what little money she had was already spent in her mind. Notebooks, note cards and pens. Things that her mama would never get her without questioning - and Zy didn't like to lie to anyone, let alone her family. This particular thing would make things a little bit hard on the girl, all things considering. She would have to learn how to lie to survive.
I can't believe that I had to do that. Zyanya muttered, of course receiving no comfort or reassurance from the Goddess that had come and turned her life upside down. As the silence hit home, the girl let out a hiss of frustration and pulled the door to the library open sharply, stepping in and letting the glass swing shut behind her. Some help you are!
Now that she was at her destination, though, she had absolutely no idea where to start. She was familiar with this place but she'd never done more than read the children's section. Oh, Zyanya was very capable of reading more advanced things - it was one of the things her mama was proud of her for - but that didn't mean she was used to it. With a sigh, she made her way to the help desk.
"Excuse me? Where would I find information on the gods?"
The small woman with mouse brown hair and a pointed nose looked up from her book. "Mythology section twelve."
"Thank you."
Turning on her heel, the girl started off toward the mythology section. That would have been the logical place to go, of course, but at this point she was still a bit scatter brained and logic was trying to find its grip hold. "Tlaloc, Tlaloc...." she had no idea what kind of God he was! Was he Greek? No, he didn't seem to be Greek. Not by the name. But she wasn't very good at figuring out name roots. Fingers trailed over the dusty spines of the books until she found anything that remotely seemed like it would have information about the God in it. It was pulled from the shelf and opened, brown eyes scanning the index. Aha! Tlaloc. Mesoamerican - Aztec. She had a start.
The next few hours were spent searching the entire section for anything she could get her hands on regarding Tlaloc or any other Mesoamerican Gods. There was blessed few books on that subject and, so, preparing for later was likely the best bet. Books on Greek and Roman gods - which seemed to be plentiful - were also removed from the shelves and added to her steadily growing pile.
Once satisfied with the reading material, Zy made her way to the front desk to check them out, looking a bit nervous. What ten year old would be taking out so many books on the subject of Gods? What if she was giving away her cover?
"Doin' a research project for school, honey?" The librarian asked as she scanned the books into the system.
"U-uh..." Don't stutter, Zy! Answer! "Yes." Wince. Ugh, she hated lying. Thankfully there weren't anymore questions from the librarian. Books were handed back to her and she took the stack gratefully, giving a small 'thank you' under her breath.
Darkness had already started to fall - it wasn't the smartest thing to have stayed so late. But this had needed to be done and Zy could only hope that the flowers she got for her mother would suffice as an offering.
Time to go home.

Facing The Family Solo Role Play
To say the walk home was unpleasant would be the understatement of the century. Her books had nearly toppled four times, she'd stumbled at least that many times, and she was late. To top all of it off, the meeting she'd had with Rafael had only served to fuel her anger and resentment toward everything and everyone. It wasn't often she got into one of these particular moods but it was definitely one of her worse ones.
Remind me why I'm doing this? Because I'm amazingly wonderful and you want to help me take over the world? ...And peas taste like cotton candy. Zyanya thought unhappily, gently thumping herself against the front door. She was too weighted down to open the door herself and she could only hope it was her father that opened it, rather than her mother. He was definitely the more benevolent of her parents. He understood her a little bit better, even if he didn't agree with her ideals.
It would seem that her luck that particular evening was zilch, however. The door swung open to reveal a very displeased woman, hands on her hips and a very pointed look on her face that most decidedly told her she was at least in for a whoopin'.
"Zyanya Marie Ruiz! What do you think you're doing coming home so late? You missed dinner and I had my hands full with the babies. Your father isn't very happy either! Do you know how worried we were about you? Get your butt in here now."
Cringe. Oh, yeah. She was in for it. Quickly she made her way inside their small home, listening to the door click shut behind her. Bag and books were set down, and the flowers were dug out of it. Zy turned around, offering extended toward her very displeased mother.
"I'm sorry, mama! I was at the library and I lost track of time. But I got you these!"
Isabella's face twitched once, twice, three times. It was obvious that she was trying not to reach out and grab the flowers from her daughter. They were lovely...But the twitching stopped and her eyes narrowed. "Do you think that a pretty pot of flowers will make up for the hour your father waited for dinner? Or for your sister and brother who were counting on you? Or for the worry! No, Zyanya." The flowers were snatched and placed on the window sill - She certainly wouldn't let them go to waste. She turned around again, eyes trailing to the necklace around her daughter's neck. "My god, Zyanya! Where did you get that necklace? Did you steal it? Are you stealing now! Francisco! Come in here, quick!"
Uh. Wonderful. How was she supposed to explain that one to her mother? "No, mama. I didn't steal it. The woman at the flower shop gave it to me for buying the flowers! Honest I--"
"What is it, Isabella?" Came the tired voice of her father as he made his way into the living room, a very sleepy looking Daniel on his hip. Obviously he had been resting after a hard day of work. Guilt ate at Zyanya and she bit her lip.
"Your daughter has been stealing." Obviously not believing Zyanya's story about the necklace being free. "Look! Look at the necklace around her neck!"
"Papa, I didn't steal it." She said softly, trying not to cry. "It was given to me by a woman at the flower store." Maybe he would believe her. He usually did.
"Isabella, I am tired. Please take care of it yourself." The man shook his head and turned to leave the living room again, intent on putting the baby down for bed.
Isabella stared at Zyanya for a long while, as if attempting to figure out whether or not her daughter was lying. Deciding that she would take her word for it, her lips pursed. "You will not leave the house for three days, Zyanya. Not unless I need you to go to the market for me. Do you understand me?"
"But mama--"
"Three days, Zyanya." She didn't give her daughter time to respond to her, instead turning and heading toward her room leaving Zyanya to stare, tears in her eyes.
I'm beginning to think you're not worth the trouble. She muttered toward Chalchiuhtlicue, shaking her head. Bag was placed on her shoulder and the books were picked up a moment later before she moved off to the room she got all to herself, being the oldest. The two little ones shared - thank god. Door was shut - but unfortunately, there was no lock.
Time to buckle down and read some of the massive amounts of books she had. At least she enjoyed reading.

A Small Update OOC Catch-up
It's been a while, so this is what Zyanya's been up to:
- Research. She's almost obsessive in this research, too. Man. It's scary.
- Figuring out who her goddess is. A few months into research, she does. Chalchiuhtlicue rewards her by granting Zyanya her first ability: Serpent Affinity. Along with this, Zyanya has acquired a coral snake named Yectli - who has a rather sweet temperament...At least toward Zyanya and her family. Zyanya can speak with her. Doubles as her weapon, as she's extremely toxic and quick to bite at the command given. (Will be written out as a Solo)
- Steady increase of tension between her and her parents as they push for her to start acting like a proper woman should and stop having her head in the clouds (or in the books). (Will be included in solos)
- She's just recently been informed that another ability has been granted but it's unclear to her what it is. Chalchiuhtlicue is making her work for this one. Calling it 'self discovery'. Zyanya's displeased. (Will be a solo)

We Meet Again! Writ/Zyanya RP Here
Yectli didn't seem to like him overly much - but he seems to be the only one I've managed to get information about The Game from. So many of the things he's told me has troubled me deeply. I don't know. The Blacksuits don't necessarily sound pleasant - at all. And if people are dying...Well, I didn't expect them to be dying so soon.
I don't know what I got myself into - I just know that I need more information. And I've already used my question. I need to figure something out, fast. Word Count: 1,226 Point Count: 12.26

Contemplation Journal Entry
Dear Diary, It has been a long time since I've written in you. Since before The Game. In fact, I think the last time I wrote to you was when Mama and Papa decided to tell me that I was betrothed to Rafael. You already know my thoughts on that particular subject.
He ran away.
You didn't know that, though, did you? Rather than marry me, Rafael ran away. He says that I am not proper and if he has to marry someone that he wants them to be a proper woman. He wants to follow the traditions. I just want to make my own.
Honestly, it does hurt very much that he would run away and live on the street rather than do what he has been told to do and marry me. I do not want to marry him, either - but I value him as a friend. I care about him, and I always have. And don't you dare tell him that, ever, diary! Not like he'd care anyway. I'm a silly little girl to him. But I will show him otherwise.
It bothers me that I want his approval so much. For him to look at me in a way that is other than a nuisance. I just want him to see me as a friend. I don't delusion myself into thinking that I like him anymore than that. It would be an arranged marriage for convenience. But I'd at least like to be married to someone I can tolerate.
But such is our relationship. Turbulent, rocky, and full of bickering. Something that I've grown used to.
But I got off on a tangent. I was writing this entry to explain about The Game. The Gods are all fighting now for the power to rule the world. They can't fight themselves - or at least that is what I'm gathering by the fact they have us to do their dirty work for them - so they choose children to fight for their right to rule and be the big cheese of the planet. I don't know much about it. I just know that the last one standing wins.
I plan to be the last one standing. I plan to be the one facing off with Rafael in the end.
I plan to prove to him that I am so much more than what he thinks I am.
That's why I entered this damn game. Pride. I have to wonder if it's worth it. People are dying, according to Writ - Another player (god he's big) - and there are some really scary people called the Blacksuits who are apparently working against us.
I have the ability to speak to snakes. I think I can command them as well, but I haven't really tried that one out. Yectli is my coral snake. She's a priss. I love her but she's a little bit on the high maintenance side. She's pretty toxic, bit really isn't too dangerous. I'm beginning to think I'll need another snake companion if that's my only way of protection at the moment. I can't fight, physically. I don't know how. I don't know much of anything, though.
Only what I've learned in books.
Oh, and I have a secret ability that is so secret not even I know about it. Chalchiuhtlicue, my goddess, is being a right b***h with that one. Self discovery apparently. So frustrating.
But I know I can't stay home much longer. My parents and I are not getting on the best. In fact, the more I stay here the more I feel the urge to drown them coming on. And I don't know where that feeling is coming from. But I'm suffocating here.
Maybe Rafael has the right idea.
Daniel's crying though and I need to help mama with him. Expect more later. Diary therapy helps.
-Zy

Growth Spurt Part I Solo Role Play
Conetl.
The voice rang in the slumbering girl's mind as she rolled over, pulling the pillow over her head with a soft mumbling answer from her lips which was entirely too hard to decipher. Obviously, it was not yet time for Zyanya to wake up and face the day. With her responsibilities to the family and taking care of the younger children she really did try and get as much sleep as she possibly could. This was made difficult when annoying, pesky woman voices were attempting to wake you up and ungodly hours.
Conetl! the voice said again, this time more persistent; a tone of complete annoyance tingeing the edges of it. This did not seem to faze the sleeping child in the least bit, however, and the annoyance grew to impossible proportions. Here she was, ready to bestow the gift of growth to her godling and the insolent little brat was slumbering away, unaware of the wonderful thing that was about to happen! Well, that certainly would not do very well at all, now. Very well. You asked for it!
"Nnnhu---" Zyanya's brown eyes widened as there was a disgusting tugging in the center of her stomach - much like a hook had taken hold of her intestines and tried to turn her inside out. Was this the punishment for ignoring one's Goddess? Was she being disemboweled? Her lips parted to protest, but as sudden as the tugging feeling had come, it was gone, and it was replaced by water rushing in through her nostrils and opening mouth. Cold, absolute cold, clutched at her night-gown clad body though this was the least of her concerns. Water was filling her lungs, causing so much blinding pain that she thought she would explode. The salt burned her nostrils and her eyes, which had to close in order to stand the new environment she had been thrust upon.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Her mind screamed, mental voice just as pained as she was. She did not understand this - why was Chalchiuhtlicue trying to kill her? Could she do that? Wasn't she stuck with her unless she was forfeiting the game?
I needed to get your attention, the voice came - Zyanya could almost see her tilting her head in her mind, I figured a small brush with death was the way to go. It was difficult to mask the touch of amusement there now that annoyance had faded.
Pure panic . I don't want to die. It hurts! She had closed her mouth as soon as she'd realized, but her lungs still ached painfully and she knew she could not hold on much longer to what small breath was still in her.
I said brush with death. I did not say you were going to die. You can breathe now.
What? No I can't! I'll drown! I'm already drowning! No matter how hard she fought to get to the surface the gleaming light never seemed to get any closer.
No trust? Tsk. Breathe, Zyanya. I'm not so keen on losing my prophet just yet.
Trust? The woman spoke of trust when she'd just tossed her head first into the ocean? However, she could not hold that breath any longer, and if she were going to die she wanted it to be fast. Mouth opened, her lungs filling the rest of the way with water - but the pressure and pressing need to breathe and take in air was gone. She inhaled experimentally, and again, there was no burning sensation. Relief flooded the girl. I hate you. Open your eyes, Zyanya, and kick toward the surface.
But the salt hurts my eyes! she protested - receiving the equivalent of one of those looks from her Goddess. The kind you knew you were receiving even if you weren't able to see the person giving it to you. Zyanya sighed and opened her eyes - only to see the watery shades of blue and light mingling rather beautifully before her. The initial sting of salt was gone and there seemed to be a small film which had covered them to allow her sight.
Are you going to stay beneath my river all day, conetl? I don't suggest it. Even I cannot prevent the wrinkles that come from staying in the water for too long.
Yeah. Like wrinkles were the first of her worries. Zyanya kicked forward, swimming toward the surface. This time, she was able to get there with no problems. However, when she did break the surface, there was a horrible pain in her lungs and a coughing fit that had her nearly going under again.
Oh, right. Forgot to warn you about that. You need to exhale the water in your lungs before breaking surface or that happens.
Finally, the last bit of water was spit out and she inhaled sharply, sweet air filling her lungs. "Thanks," she breathed, "For the warning."
"No problem." This voice was not in her head. It rang out clear as day just to her left. Zyanya turned her head to look toward where the voice was coming from only to see a rather beautiful woman standing on the shores of the river. She had markings on her cheeks - where Zy's were green, hers were black. Her jade skirt flowed back behind her, resembling water, and there were quetzal feathers in her hair and in a necklace around her neck. Long blue hair also resembling water was pulled back, shells hanging from the strands in an ornate fashion. "Welcome to the realm of Atl."
Chalchiuhtlicue decides that it's time to give Zyanya a growth spurt. - Travels down the river within her realm - Nearly Drowns - Learns Life Sight
