Boy, am I bad at keeping track of things. I'm not even sure how long ago I got to this island. I'm pretty sure I should be...recording this stuff, y'know? (Am I allowed to write in slang? Hell. This is my journal. If someone has an issue with it, I'll kill 'em fer reading it.) Well, I'm quite sure I'm supposed to be doing this. Like, you know. For historical purposes. When the school saves the world and stuff. Hahahaha. What a load of crap. We're all kids, here. How could anyone expect that much of us? (Especially as we are all teenagers and teenagers are some of the more obnoxious, bull-headed creatures on earth.) I've hardly met anyone, actually. Banish hasn't really been outside my room. Maybe I shouldn't judge. (Yeah. Right.)

So, the ride here really wasn't pleasant. At all. It has come to my attention traveling by boat is truly one of the shittiest forms of transportation someone has ever invented. I was seriously ready to curl up and die. Oh, the waves! Back and forth, back and forth. I'm not sure what on earth set me off, or rather, why those waves set me off. I've lived through much more disturbing, stomach churning things. It wasn't even like the sea was that violent. Ug. I mean, even Banish looked frazzled, and he's a cat. Cats do not get sea sick. Maybe it's just where we were from? (But what would that have to do with it?) We've never been on a boat, either. Well, a raft, in a dead river. Hardly a comparison. We just hung near the rail the whole time.

I recovered quick enough, though. Met an elf. I think he had pet ravens. (Banish did not like those, let me tell you. I was half expecting him to pounce on those birds. I was half hoping he would.) I think the man was Professor Dante. He was confusing. I'm not sure if it's the good, challenging confusing or the obnoxious, show-off type confusion. I suppose, if he's a professor, I'll figure out soon enough. (Oh, gods. Classes. I cannot stand the thought.)

At least there's room to board. This place really isn't looking so bad.

Here's until next time.

.[you need to live a little].

Well, I met my new roommate. He's...um...what's an appropriate word for that little squirt? Studious? Yes. Definitely studious. I think that might be all he thinks about. Oh! And he's really, really sheltered too. I mean...dude! (I'm pretty sure some of my sayings went riiiiight over his head. Poor kid. I bet his parents kept him under a rock. Oh, parents these days. They're so protective over their little cherubs, they don't even realize they're ruining the chances to like...interact...in the REAL world. Then again...I don't scientist live in the real world.) He doesn't even skateboard. Well, I guess that's not his fault. He didn't really understand what a Playstation 2 was. Man, how I wish my dad let me bring mine with me. He said it 'wouldn't be conducive to studying'. BAH.

At least we have a mall around here. I convinced RuiZhi we should decorate our room. (I mean, dude. The walls are WHITE. W-H-I-T-E. White.) I thought we miiiiiight get in trouble for painting the walls purple or blue or green (or a combo of all three, so I suggested posters. (I don't mind getting in trouble, you know that. But I'd feel bad if I got RuiZhi in trouble. I think he might cry. He's like...a little China doll, or something.) So we're going to get posters of rockstars and babes. (I wonder if RuiZhi has actually ever met a babe. Well, they do have a mall. There's hope.)

I almost forgot! I guess RuiZhi has this sister. She seems to like the same stuff I do. Well, at least as far as music and game consoles go. I'll have to meet her some time. Oh yeah, I also need to teach RuiZhi to skateboard. Does that mean I have a To-Do list? Oi.

Well, all in all, this will an interesting relationship. (Oh, horrah~)

.[cute blond dead ahead!].

I need to watch where I'm going when I skateboard.  Like, I really do.  I totally ran in to this kid by accident today.  I felt sort of bad...like I had just kicked a puppy, or something.  No, exactly like kicking a puppy.  He was all blond and blue-eyed and all sprawling everywhere and his books went everywhere and...yes.  You get my drift.  I almost felt bad.  (I know, right?)  I didn't help him sort his stuff, though.  I didn't feel that bad.  I mean, he was walking in a bad spot.  It was a fifty-fifty fault kind of thing.

So anyways, this kid's name is Elijah and I think he's just that really nice kind of kid.  He wasn't mad at all that I nearly ran him over.  And he thought my skateboard was awesome.  (He was so totally right.  She is the sickest thing this school has ever seen.  Next to me.  But that's besides the point, really.)  He doesn't board, though, nor did he seem interested in it.  At all.  Minus points, kid.  Skateboarding is a way of life, and in my humble opinion, the only good way of life for any proper teenager.

...at least I got him to agree to help me get together a game of football for all the boys.  That could be very interesting.  Given, the only other boys I know are Elijah and RuiZhi, but I did come over here with one other boy.  I wonder how many kids are here, anyways?  Would we have enough for a real match, or would it have to be some weird kind of scrimmage thing?  Whatever works, I guess.  I mean, we are on an island.  I don't know if we'd even have room for a soccer pitch.  Though, if we're on an island, there must be a good beach around here somewhere.  Beach football?  Awesome.

.[over the hills and far away].

It was not a very good day. And by not a very good day, I mean awful. And it totally wasn’t my fault. See, this kid, Rylenn Somebodyorother, he was expelled the other day. I don’t know who he is, or what he did (but damn, it must have been pretty sick to get him expelled), but he just put everyone in a bad mood. I guess he was RuiZhi’s friend, or something. So he was all sad, which was very weird, for the record, and it bugged the hell out of me. I hate when people mourn or whatever. So I decided to go and sulk, and since the little punk was in our room, I got the joy of sulking out in public. In the hallway, in fact. It was lovely, I assure you. And what’s better, I made a new friend.

Lucky, lucky me, I was graced with the presence of one Sir Weiyuan Leung.

Oh, lucky, lucky me.

So first, this guy is just…stumbling down the hall in a total stupor, or something. Like he was high, I guess. Except then he trips and totally scrapes his face across the floor. Which would be totally awesome…except he didn’t even care. I mean, that right there could have totally made my day. I could have made fun of him for the rest of his life for that. But, no. He just laid around until I had to get up and bug him. As it turns out, he was dating Rylenn Whosiwhatsit and is madly in love. (Oh god. That is so disgusting. I couldn’t imagine being ‘in love’ with someone.) So know he’s all depressed and s**t, so I decided it would be a good time for a little self-therapy and I annoyed the crap out of him. It was awesome.

Then he spit on my shoe.

THE b*****d SPIT ON MY SHOE.

So I punched him. Or tried. And I think I convinced him he was a total mental case. (Which he is.) So to make a long story short, Weiyuan is a total a** and I hate him. And then next time I see him, I definitely owe him a punch in the face.

What Are –You- Looking At?

.[crash landing].

So. It comes to my attention that I crash with amazing frequency. Into people, nonetheless. I’d just like to point out I never, ever had this sort of problem while I was at home. I even boarded on the streets and stuff and I think the only thing I ever hit was a trashcan. (Said trashcan had the pleasure of eating me that way. I swerved to avoid a crazy dog and didn’t even see it coming. Well done, trashcan, well done.) And now that I’m stick at school, I’m hitting things (people) left and right. What the hell, man! I must need to practice more.

…speaking of more.

More was my latest, uh, hit and run victim. I totally beefed, too. And by beefed, I mean wiping the concrete floor with my face. Ibuprofen, anyone? I’m probably lucky I didn’t break anything, never mind getting clean knocked out or something. But anyways, I didn’t even hurt the guy. I was going wicked fast and hit him head on, too. How does that even happen? He’s a really weird guy, More. I mean, I was my usually, snarky self to him and he didn’t get mad or flustered or hurt. He sorta smiled a lot, and stuff. Which is very weird. (Yes, I know I’m repeating myself, but the weirdness deserves to be restated. It’s not right for people to be so damn happy, it’s creepy!)

However, despite his astronomical weirdness level, More is a cool guy. I can tell you this and totally mean it simply because he wanted to skateboard. I started to teach him, right there in the hallway! (He twisted his ankle in the process and still wasn’t hurt. Dude, he must have an amazing pain tolerance level.) And he actually listened! Heavens above, it’s some kind of strange miracle! I invited him to visit me and Zhi sometime, and I hope he takes me up on it. It would be pretty cool to have a skateboard buddy, you know?

…speaking of, I think I still have to convince Zhi to learn, too. That's going to be a challenge. Not the actual teaching part, he's a smart cookie. The convincing part. He's not very sure and I don't think I'm a very convincing person. Heh.

I should probably do homework.

...nah.

.[live a life less ordinary, live a life extraordinary!].

So, I never really learned my lesson after crashing into More and Elijah and them. I mean about skateboarding in the school, and stuff. (Not the grounds, the grounds are fine. I mean inside the actual school.) No, I didn’t bump into someone important, or something. (Though wouldn’t that be something, if I crashed into the headmaster or one of the advisors? That might be worth trying just for the hell of it. Or I could claim it in the name of science. See how different people of authority respond when a wild blond hits them at a very respectable speed while on four wheels. Hmm. I’m going to have to consult Zhi about this. Though, I hardly think he’ll approve.) Right. I’m getting sidetracked.

I launched myself down the stairs.

That’s right. Face first down the stairs. Though, my poor face was lucky enough not to take the brunt of the damage this time. I landed on my shoulder and dislocated it. Which is totally disgusting and probably the most painful thing I have ever endured. Lucky for me, I have a really smart roommate who wants to be a doctor. So he found me down the stairwell and brought me back to the room and fixed my arm. Which, surprisingly, is probably the worst part of the ordeal, for those of you who have never dislocated anything. Don’t try it. It took me by total surprise, I will admit.

…and sense no one ever reads this, I guess I can also admit I was probably crueler to Zhi than I had to be, but damn iy hurt like a son of a gun.

Which I did admit! Okay? I felt bad. Because he was giving me the kicked puppy look and even I can’t stand up to that when pretty girls do it. (Or small, Chinese boys, apparently. What the hell is wrong with me? Oh yeah. Concussed.) But I mean, he looked so guilty and s**t and he did fix my arm so I just had to make him feel better, right? Right! So I took him out to lunch.

…and he’s not cute, for the record. That was a miscommunication on my brain cells’ part.

.[and i accused you in a way that you’ve never known].

Okay, so, love letters are crazy and a very bad idea because they always fall into the wrong hands, right? Right! Well, guess what? The infamous Dr. Kenth was getting love letters! Isn’t that funny? (While I’ve never actually met the man myself –this is something I really need to remedy, he sounds like quite the card- I can only imagine his reaction was something to behold. After all, some garbage grubber found them in the man’s trash…why was someone digging through Dr. Kenth’s trash, anyways? That’s creepy.) Anyways. That’s not the rumor part, because it’s true and rumors have a weird way of not always being totally true and this one was proved right off the bat. (I guess that just makes it good fodder?) But guess what the rumor was?

That it was written by a student!

Oh, gods.

So, naturally, the curious side of me woke right up and I simply had to figure out who wrote it. I mean, come on. Wouldn’t that be the most awesome blackmail ever? Even if they weren’t embarrassed, I doubt Dr. Kenth would be very pleased with them, especially now the entire school has read all the nice little notes. But, the rumor could actually be true. A lot of people speak very highly of Dr. Kenth, so I don’t really think it’s that implausible at all that someone might have a crush on him. Even if it is a student. Come on. Sometimes guys get crushes on really hot moms. It’s like that

…okay, it’s actually not like that at all. Forget I wrote that. It’s like. Uh. Hero worship. Yeah! It’s a really intense hero worship…or maybe the do actually find Dr. Kenth super attractive. Or something. You never know, miracles happen. Even for the nastiest of people.

So there were really only two students I could think of who fit into the category. Weiyuan Leung was the first to come to mind, but then I remember, he already has a boyfriend, duh. Even if he is…wherever he is that isn’t here, Wei still seems pretty damn stuck on him. I can’t see him as the cheating type. So that leaves choice B : RuiZhi Tai. And this makes me very, very unhappy. So I need to find a remedy, see? So I hunt my roommate down after class (because it is seriously not okay he’s in love with the doctor, even if he is a great doctor and that’s how Zhi wants to grow up to be and- Yeah. I harassed him for a while before I finally realized…

…Zhi didn’t do it.

Back to Square One. But I guess that means it wasn’t a student, which means it wasn’t true. The rumor, I mean. I guess it was to be faculty, or, does Dr. Kenth get fanmail? Man, that would be weird.

…but I guess the world is full of oddity. I mean, I am here at the Shinkami School of Saviors, me, Scyeth, Slacker Extraordinaire. I’m so glad I’m here and not at home.

But let’s not get too distracted. Dr. Kenth. Love letters. RuiZhi. I wonder if RuiZhi gets love letters? If he wrote love letters, would they be in Chinese? (That would be cool!) Though, if I ever wrote a love letter, and I never, ever would, I’d totally write it in another language. Except for the love part. And I’d sign in my tongue, too. Because then the person would be all happy and you’d never get caught! Though, I suppose the point of a love letter is for the receiver to read, I suppose. Man oh man. But I keep getting off track. So, I guess I should just conclude this little entry and go ponder somewhere else. RuiZhi didn’t do it and I’m positive Weiyuan didn’t do it, so it couldn’t have been a student.

Rumor solved, right?

.[a love like winter].

I never, ever celebrated a holiday before. I never celebrated my birthday before. And look at this! The school had this huuuuuuge Christmas party! What is Christmas? I don’t even know, but the party was fantastic. (But seriously, when isn’t a party fantastic?) It was at the mall, adding to the sheer awesome of the situation. (I love the mall.) And there were all these booths, and stuff, run by the teachers. Really, it was pretty fantastic. Better than any of the other private schools I’ve ever been to. Ever. And I mean that. I went to a lot of schools when I was younger. My dad and I did a lot of moving around when I was younger, and stuff.

You know, there aren’t a lot of schools in the Outback. I liked the Outback. You know, I wanted a dingo for a pet when I was little. I still do, but I can hardly imagine that Banish would approve. You know how Banish is. (I hope I can give Banish back to my dad soon. I’m getting sick of having to chase him every time he gets out and be in around certain times just so he can eat. Do you know how fickle he is? VERY, VERY FICKLE. Worse than seven-year-old girls raised on PBJs and mac-n-cheese. Mhhhhm. Mac and cheese. I love junk food.)

So, anyways, I hung out with RuiZhi (duh!) and More. It was fun. I kinda had to be the leader. (Oh, like I minded.) You know Zhi. He’s kinda shy and stuff and More didn’t really seem to care one way or the other. We got tickets and stuff. (The tickets were to get things at the booths. There were all sorts of booths! Plushies and pictures and you could even exchange for school credits! Too bad I didn’t have enough left over for school credits. Man. That would have made my life so much happier.) But at any rate, me and Zhizhi and More all got our picture taken together. It was cool. I had fun. I wonder why we never celebrated holidays at home?

Oh, who am I kidding? Like I actually have to wonder.

Whatever. I’ve got to go.

Letter From Home

To Whom It May Concern:

.[i don’t really care for music].

Scyeth didn’t know why he was going home. Actually, he didn’t know he was going home until minutes before a pair of his father’s friends arrived at the school and whisked him before he even had a moment to protest. He didn’t get to pack any of his stuff, not even Banish, not his books, his board, nothing. He didn’t get to tell anywhere where he was going (well, if he knew) and he didn’t get to give any goodbyes. And for what? An endless trip cramped on a private airplane? Yeah. Yeah, right.

At the end of the exhausting flight came the never ending drive through an expansive landscape of nothing at all. Red sand. Red rocks. Dead brush. Red rocks again. Oh. He was back. There was no denying the obvious truth.

Scyeth pressed his face against the smudged window, sighing the heaviest sigh he could muster. He was back. He pressed a hand to the window and shut his periwinkle blue eyes. Oh, heavens above, he was back. He closed his eyes tighter and inhaled sharply. The same black Jeep, the same long road to nowhere in particular. The same hopeless feeling that sat in his stomach like a lead brick until he was sure he was going to be sick. Oh, hello Australia. Scyeth smiled a weary grin. Maybe he did miss her a little. A lot. More than he’d ever feel comfortable admitting to. He loved this place. The open really called to the teenager. There was so much space to do anything he wanted. There was desert, and if he was lucky, his dad might take him to spend a month at the beach. The beach was amazing. Water as blue as his eyes, sand whiter than you’d even known and waves that could make any surfer happy.

…even his dad seemed happier at the beach.

Scyeth sighed and opened his eyes again. He had a feeling he wasn’t being called home to take a family vacation. He sat back in the sticky leather seat and began to trace designs on the window pane. What could it possibly be about? And then it struck the blond. What were any of their moves ever about? Politics. Something must have gone wrong in one of the negotiations, or something. He scowled fiercely, but only for a moment or two. That took a lot of energy. But he couldn’t think of a better explanation. It couldn’t be pleasant, no matter what it was. His dad wasn’t in to fun things. Or surprises. Or being nice at all, Scyeth thought bitterly.

They had never gotten along, had they?

No. That wasn’t true. Scyeth pushed a small pebble across the floor mat and squirmed against his seatbelt. They got along in their silence. In their quiet discontent of one another. In their not being home long enough to have to acknowledge each other’s presence. In his father’s gifts instead of apologies. In his accepting of the gifts instead of standing up for what he actually wanted.

In their mutual agreement about the unfortunate death of his mother.

Scyeth caught his breath. He hadn’t thought about his mother in a very long time. He was told she was a very pretty woman, and that he looked just like her. She had hair so golden the sun was jealous and eyes so blue, the sky could only rival on the clearest days. She was flawless and sweet. She was a wild womanchild, and Scyeth was told she would have absolutely adored him. Scyeth only wished he could have known that for himself.

Suddenly, the young blond ripped off his headphones and tossed the small, silver iPod to the seat beside him, where he had found it upon being stuffed into the otherwise sterile Jeep. (Really, it was so clean, it was frightening.) And that was when the car came to a sudden halt, throwing Scyeth forward and catching him with the nylon belt. The youth cursed and glared at the driver, who said nothing in response. Scyeth righted himself and was halfway to asking why the hell they had stopped when he noticed exactly where they had stopped.

Oh.

He was home.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 22, 2008 12:03 pm

.[remember when i still moved you?].

Scyeth had been home for a few weeks when his dad showed up at the small little cabin again. He’d hardly been outside, the bodyguard lucky enough to be charged with the boy’s welfare was not about to risk everything just to let the boy get a little fresh air. He could open a window, the burly man would mutter. He didn’t really like kids. It was a good thing Scyeth didn’t like him either. Scyeth had amused himself with a video game left in his room from his last visit until he beat it seventy-two hours later. Then he skimmed through his old magazines, which weren’t as interesting as he recalled and finally he started to build a house out of the cards he had purchased for Poker night with his dad’s associates.

That got boring five days and two card mansions in. So Scyeth resigned himself to sitting in front of the window, iPod plugged into both ears. Rufus Wainwright had become a recent favorite of his. He had listened to the same track so many times, he could probably sing it if he wanted to and Scyeth probably sang as well as a tomcat. Maybe that’s what he could do with his time, learn to sing. Even homework sounded good right about now. Or reading. Or damn, what he wouldn’t give to have his dirt board for a nice adventure on the plateau over yonder. It only looked like a good half-day’s drive away. It would make a great camping trip!

…if there was someone to go camping with, that was.

And it was about then, when Scyeth was dying for any company at all (he had even tried to befriend the spider that had taken up residency in his kitchen sink) that his dad arrived in the infamous black Jeep with the driver and a bodyguard of his own. (Actually, make it three bodyguards. He had three now? Hey! One was a women. A really attractive woman, to boot.) And the tall, dark-haired man waltzed in, not even taking notice of son plastered to the dirty window or the stack of cards he just knocked over or the poor spider he just drowned when he turned on the water to wash the red dust off his chapped hands. Scyeth said nothing, simply wished his friend a quick death as he watched the water slide down the basin.

The bodyguards muttered among themselves, his red-headed, ponytailed friend was ushered off and replaced by the dame. (Who Scyeth would later find out was only nineteen.) Scyeth said nothing. Adsunth said nothing. Nobody said anything as the sun set, the lights dimmed and Scyeth watched like he wasn’t even part of the picture. In fact, he was beginning to wonder if he was even there until his father finally turned to him and tossed something on the small kitchen table.

“I bought you some games for your…” he waved his hand and looked up absently. “For your whatever you call it.” He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear and rubbed his goatee, the sure sign he was waiting for something. Scyeth mumbled a ‘thank you’, but was not moved from his chair. Well, not until his father fixed him with that crazy, piercing stare. Scyeth swallowed and bid his sunset good night. He shuffled stocking feet over to the table, scooped up the pair of games and retreated to his room, where he promptly shut the door (and locked it for good measure) and threw them on his bottom bunk and hauled himself onto the top. He began to fish around for his iPod under his pillow and wondered idly what he was going to do once he beat those games, too. And how long they’d be staying here this time. And what was with the new girl? Why did they need more, anyways?

The blond shook his head and stuck the little buds into his ears. Some things never changed, did they? He rolled onto his back and stared at his black ceiling. Oh yeah. When he was younger, he had asked his dad if they might paint it like the night sky. And so they did. There were even constellations on it. Sagittarius was right over his bed. Yes, that was him. The archer. He should actually learn archery someday, that might be fun. Unique. Enough to be noticed?

No.

Scyeth scowled and rolled over. Where were his scissors? He jumped off his bunk and padded to the dresser. He always kept a small pair of scissors in his room for cutting off tags from new clothes. Or. Cutting his hair when it was getting long. His hair was definitely getting long. Scyeth flicked on the light and stood in front of the small mirror. He wiped the dust away with a sleeve and turned half-way.

And he began to cut. Not trim. Cut.

Cut his prized, golden locks. Shorter, shorter, shorter still. Who needed pretty hair when they were out in the middle of the desert, anyways? Scyeth started to cry, and never even noticed.

Didn’t even notice until the deed was done. His hair was no longer past his shoulders but halfway up his neck. It was the best he could do, so he grabbed the elastic around his magazines and plucked it off. Stuck it in his hair, made a ponytail and gave a good twist. Yeah.

If that hairdo didn’t get someone to look at him, he didn’t know what would.

So he flicked off the lights and crawled back under his covers. He’d give it a test tomorrow.

Hallelujah.

.[there's no one left to blame].

Scyeth started walking hours ago. He couldn’t take it anymore, he just couldn’t take it! He was sick of not knowing what was going on, or why, or for how long. He was sick of being ignored and he was sick of being treated like a pet. Sick of the way his father would reprimand him when he saw something wrong. Like his hair. Scyeth really earned a whooping when his dad saw the way he ‘butchered’ his hair. But the blond couldn’t be bothered to care, not even when he was still sporting the black eye. It was his hair, after all. And what was his, was his.

But that’s when ShinKami got brought up. ShinKami was Scyeth’s. Scyeth’s everything. He had friends there. He could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, making his own mistakes included. Said mistakes also happened to be some very poor grades tossed into the mix. And this just wasn’t okay. It was worse than the hair. It was even worse than the time Scyeth accidently read some directions on a recipe backwards and gave some of his father’s company food poisoning. (He was only ten, his father reasoned to his coworkers, but Scyeth swore he’d never hear the end of it once everyone left.) It was the be all, end all. Scyeth had been chosen, and now he was disgracing the Akazar name.

Scyeth had the gall (and lacked the brains to prevent him) to point out that no one anyone around them knew the Akazar name.

That’s when he started walking. Walking down the endless road. His white shoes were probably permanently orange now and his feet were really beginning to hurt and he was starting to think that he was such an idiot for not packing water or food before he left, but it was in the heat of the moment. He was just tired of everything. Tired of the silence. Tired of the blame. But both those things were just as much his fault as his father’s, and he knew that. His father said nothing, and he said nothing in return. His father blamed him for what happened, but only because he felt guilty for it. Accidents are no one’s fault.

So why couldn’t either of them believe that?

Kissing Shawna was an accident. Kissing Adrian was an accident too. But Shawna was really pretty, and Scyeth was really bored, and she came onto him first. She should have known better than to come onto her employer’s kid, but he was quite attractive himself and he certainly wasn’t about to say no. Well. Until they actually got to the kissing part and somewhere between the nibbles and tongues, Scyeth realized he really didn’t like her. And didn’t want to kiss her. And unceremoniously told his father all about it, and he hadn’t seen Shawna since. So Adrian definitely should have known better when it was his turn to get hit on. And definitely should have avoided getting left alone with Scyeth when his father and the other two needed to go meet someone. But he didn’t.

He stayed with Scyeth. Kept him company. Watched the TV as the kid channel surfed. (It was the only surfing the punk was going to see.) He acquiesced when Scyeth pulled out a pair of silver studs and told Adrian to push them through his earlobes. (Though, our redhead had to wonder if bodyguards were allowed to do that, because technically, he was hurting Scyeth. But it was what Scyeth wanted.) So when Scyeth wriggled closer, ears red and sore, eyeslids heavy and head nodding, Adrian ignored it. When he woke up in the middle of the night with a blond teenager curled up on his lap and lips to his, he did everything but ignore it.

And they kissed, too.

And Scyeth found he didn’t want that either. But he didn’t get rid of Adrian the way he did Shawna. Adrian was loyal. And. His ears. So, yes.

It was no one’s fault.

Scyeth was mumbling it over and over, or maybe he was just saying it in his head, when the Black Jeep pulled up beside him and Adrian stepped out.

“Your dad wants you to come home now.”

Scyeth halted and gave the tan redhead an exasperated look. Like he cared what his dad wanted. “No,” he grumbled, and trudged on.

Adrian chased after him. “As much as I agree with you, I have orders,” he reminded the kid, grabbing his arm. Scyeth shook him off. “Look. Kid. It’s time for you to go back to school.”

Scyeth whipped around and gave Adrian a look of disbelief. “…even though the grades?” he asked warily. Adrian nodded. Scyeth didn’t need to hear anything else. He hopped into the back seat. Less than twenty-four hours later, he was back on the cramped, smelly plane. It didn’t matter though. He was back on his way to ShinKami School of Saviors. With cut hair. Pierced ears.

...oh yeah.

And now, he was going to study.

.[leave out all the rest].

…nnn.

…huh. That’s a sound. Why did I write that? Oh, who cares. No one reads this anyways, so I’m not scratching it out. (And if there is someone reading this, feel free to leave a note. I’m just going to kill you after.)

So, I’m home. Oh. Well, actually, I’m back at the ShinKami School of Saviors. Can I call it home? I don’t know if anywhere I’ve lived can qualify as ‘home’. I mean, sure, my dad was there, sometimes. And I had a bedroom and a computer room and sometimes a TV room too, and I always had plenty to play with and sometimes I had neighbors to hang out with. The older I got, the more we moved, though, so I don’t really keep in touch with people. It’s not really worth it, because chances are, I’ll never see them again. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really mind anymore. I have no problem meeting new people. And my bodyguards are kinda my friends.

Kinda. Bainn’s been around the longest. He has shorty, spiky black hair and I’d bet he’s getting close to thirty. He’s really strict, doesn’t tolerate any horseplay, especially from the other bodyguards. He tries not to let me get away with anything either, but I’m usually left in charge of the household when my dad goes away on business, and on the occasions Bainn doesn’t accompany him, I can get away with anything. I don’t think we get along. But we don’t not get along either. We just exist together. And then came Thaddeus. I don’t like him. He has no sense of humor, says nothing unless he’s trying to get me in trouble, which he can’t. So. Yeah. And then comes Adrian. Ace. Whoever he is. He’s a strange sort. He has really tan skin and flaming red hair and these purple triangles on one of his cheeks. He says it’s clan marking from his home. Weird. But he’s my favorite. Mostly because he lets me get away with s**t. And doesn’t lose to me just to keep me happy. I’m not sure why his weird little rebellion makes me feel better, but it does. And there was Shawna, but I got her fired. We made out. I didn’t like it, but that wasn’t the point. She got all weird and clingy, and seriously, she needs to understand who’s in charge here, okay? So I told my dad. And she got the boot, so they’re looking for another bodyguard. I bet anything they don’t get anymore girls. Heh. They don’t know about Adrian, I guess. I’m not sure why I kissed them. I just wanted to try it. It was just something I just had to do.

This isn’t some stupid ‘teenage rebellion’. Let’s just get that square. My dad freaked out when I cut my hair and put it up. I liked my long hair, sure, but we can’t all stay the same forever. I didn’t cut it much! I just wanted to see if he’d notice. (And he did.) And he hit me, once. I don’t think I was actually all that surprised. He’s got a temper. Is it weird that doesn’t bother me? Because it doesn’t. We don’t love each other. And this isn’t some garbage. I don’t feel bad for me. I’m not angry about it. I grew up that way, so it’s just normal for me! I think I’d be creeped out if my dad suddenly starting caring a lot.

…so why do I keep trying to justify myself?

See, this is why I have a journal. Because I don’t make sense to myself. And sometimes I do stupid things…like everything I did when I was back in Australia. I…was really bored. And being so bored can drive a person mad. And…I think I was probably a little depressed. I guess I can admit that. But wouldn’t you be, too? Oh, whatever. I missed the school. I like being on my own, it’s more fun. More freedom. Easier. But what teenager wouldn’t say that? It was just a good learning experience, being at home.

So here’s what I’ve learned:

1. Kissing and telling is a really good way to get rid of someone.
2. Kissing isn’t really fun with strangers. Eugh. What if she had germs?
3. Piercing your ears really hurts when you do it by yourself.
4. Kissing isn’t really fun with your friends, either. Especially when they don’t want to do it.
5. Don’t cut your hair yourself. It gets everywhere, even if your haircut looks good.
6. If something makes you happy, you can leave out all the rest.

And look at that, I’m here again. I almost just wrote ‘home’ again. Can I call the school my home? I have friends here. I have enemies here, classes, my cat, my skateboard. Things that I like. Things I don’t like. What I do. People to fight with. A reason to get up in the morning, other than to be bored all day. Once, some idiot told me the home is where the heart is.

I think I can call this my home.

So. Did I put my heart here too?

Oh, whatever. That’s way too sentimental for me. ShinKami makes me happy. I can leave out all the rest.

.[don’t resent me].

So. Moving back in was an experience and a half.

When I got to my old room, I was a little shocked to see everything in boxes… Of course, being myself, I immediately assumed the worst. What else was I supposed to do? RuiZhi would have gotten a new roommate, of course. No one told him, or the school where I was going or why or for how long. Hell, even I didn’t know any of that stuff and I was the one being removed! It was stupid. I hate the way my dad is mysterious like that. Well, not really. No use hating something I can never change.

But anyways. All my s**t was gone. Even my cat, and then I realized some of the stuff was RuiZhi’s and before I got to think about anything else, he walked in. With my cat. (Damnit. I was kind of hoping my little excursion would be the end of Banish. But whatever.) He was very happy to see me. I get the feeling I didn’t act entirely appropriately, because he was all concerned and stuff. I supposed not talking was alarming, considering the rate at which I used to speak. But. After four months of not talking? Words stop coming so easily. Saying too much seems like a waste of breath, because eventually, people stop listening to what you say. The less you speak, the more weight they put into what you actually say, right?

…but anyways. I think I missed him.

He noticed the hair. (How could he not? It used to always be under a hat, and now it was in a bun thing. I’m not sure what you call it. It was messy, and on my head.) He told stuff and I eventually told him I was a…demon. (Am I an idiot?) Uh, yeah. I haven’t told you either. But I am. A real, in-the-flesh demon, not an ounce of human in me anywhere. Which was a stupid thing to tell him, but I was feeling all guilty and s**t (I don’t think I’d entirely got over my little bout of depression yet) and had to tell him. I was sick of lying. I’m not a Politian. I’m not my dad. I don’t want to lie for the rest of my life. It’s too much work and it’s not worth it. Because I’m me, and ******** anyone who cares.

…and I don’t think Zhi will tell anyone.

But was that the end of my idiocy? Oh, no. It would be too easy to end there, right? Fate had me for a little longer, so apparently, was going to milk that for all it was worth. (That sentence doesn’t exactly make sense. But I’m not sure how else to word it. So! I’m leaving it.) I wasn’t happy with just admitting I was a demon. (As if that wasn’t enough to change our friendship completely.) …yes, I’d call us friends. I actually like RuiZhi, even if we’re entirely different people. I like him a lot. And I’d say I admired his dedication, except that would be really stupid. But I might. (Or maybe I’m a liar.)

Shut up, Scy.

But I couldn’t bring myself to say what I was thinking. What I had been thinking about while I was gone. (It’s the kind of thing that takes being gone to realize, you know? But just because I realized it doesn’t mean I’m okay with it.) But I was so very driven to make RuiZhi understand what I meant (because I’m a bloody IDIOT) and…I kissed him.

I kissed him.

IKISSEDHIMIKISSEDHIMIKISSEDHIM.

AM I TOTALLY MAD!? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME!?

AUUUUGH. WAY TO BLOW IT, SCY.

I am not happy about this, if you can’t tell? What kind of idiot kisses his best friend and hopes he’ll understand? When I said leave out all the rest, self, THIS IS NOT WHAT I MEANT.

Asdfknjblhkugasf.

…yes. Augh. I’m an idiot. I’m going to avoid him. And maybe he can forget what I’ve done.

Oh, my friend, please don’t resent me.

Nice To Meet You Again
