I like the idea, but have a few problems with it:

1. I would suggest two people take care of the mule. Time spans on Gaia are always different and people get ill, are busy easily. Also, if there are two people, we can really do a mule duo, e.g. female and male.
Also with two people there's the possibility of control. Not that I am distrusting anyone, but with 2 people there's always one who looks on the fingers of the other.

2. If we use a mule, I would suggest more of a trust-voting. Tending a mule is more important than simply "playing owner". You need to send donations/gifts to the mule and give a certain image to the outside, not as yourself, but as the representitive guild mule. That's different. A random number would be too random imho.

3. "Dress up" is what I count as bad idea. To return items to the owner or to give the items owners access to it can be not only nervewrecking, but will cause a lot of confusion.
I would suggest a donation before the event starts. This would serve both needs. We could dress up the mules (nothing crazy, fancy like - but worth for the event) *and* use the leftover items to sell them and either give the sum to the guild mule or leave it for the next event.

Jofefina
I'm new here, so hopefully I won't offend by posting so early. smile I have to agree about the password being private. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I just would feel strange having a password posted. I love the idea of a guild mascot though.

Every opinion counts...even if you've been here for 1 week or 1 month ... you have to realize this "guild" has only been in existence since the end of December so were all "new" LOL

In the Beginning i think getting all the NEW starter items would be a great way to start. They are stylish and they are attractive...anything other than that should be "donated" items with low to mid value..nothing to expensive so as not to be a draw for a hacker

also i think the Mule needs a home..but as you know it costs gold to start one ...again this would be something that would need furniture donations. plus so we don't have a bunch of hodgepodge items we would need to decide on a sort of 'theme" prior to creating the house. ...but as we are always in the middle of having some sort of event/contest going on this is something that can wait for a bit ..but i did want to get it out there.

Metal was mentioning something about male/female mule... but gaia only allows you to switch sexes 3 times soo..either we need one mule that stays the same or 2 mules one female one male ..

Two people controlling one mule could get confusing. You'd have to work out when so and so was on and etc. But I suppose it could work.

I sort of agree with the point Metal made about dressing up though. I say that we keep the basic items simple (like the starter items) and then whoever is controlling the mule at the time could donate their own "fancier" items to the mule to make it look better IF THEY WISH TO. As to how the mule should look, someone could tektek a look for the mule using fair simple items and we'd work toward that.

I don't know what sex the mule should be. I'm fine with either.

And...we were thinking about giving the mule a home? Like one in the towns? I don't know what that would really accomplish. It costs gold and most people don't even hang around towns that much. I certainly don't.

My most humble apologies for the length of this post! Eeeeeek! I'm just running some stuff by all of you good folks, and trying to clarify some questions.
By NO means am I saying this is even a good idea, lol--but just something that we as a guild might want to look into. I cannot say how strongly I personally feel about how awesome all of you are! *sniff*
I love input, questions, and creating a unified idea with everyone involved--as a guild! I ain't the boss here *points at Metal and bows with a flourish* whee , and I just have so much respect for Metal and everyone who has done contests, games and threads--it's alot of work putting something together! So....offer up your suggestions, ideas, and input and we'll see what we can all come up with together! *mwah* heart

Hmmm...true, with two people, there could be a "fallback", in case the one who won the dice roll was ill, or had to be absent for some reason. And...should the mascot get donations, they would just go into it's inventory, and could be traded to Metal's Mule. It might be nice to have two people to take care of that. 3nodding

The theoretical way to obtain a mascot mule(s):

To get an avatar on Gaia requires an e-mail, just for registration purposes. Sooooo....two mascots (a male and a female) would require two e-mail addresses. Or--one mascot/one e-mail.
I would feel comfortable with Metal, (our guild founder and owner), obtaining the e-mail accounts for this purpose. (heck, they are everywhere--g-mail, hotmail, yahoo mail, etc.) I trust Metal's Mule with all of our guild bounty, so to me it would only seem fitting that he "owned" the mascot(s) as well. whee
This e-mail would not be used for any other purpose, and no one but Metal would even need to know what it is.
Now--this is just me talkin' here--so ideas are welcomed on this part of the "mascot" idea, and Metal may not wish to do the set-up, so this is just a suggestion. whee

Male AND female mascot: The thread poster (the one who won the honor, by whatever method chosen), could chose which one he/she wanted to use. GGoA_Guy or GGoA_Gal. The password could then be pm'd to them, for access to the mascot.

A voting idea did cross my mind, but...I myself would be afraid of hurt feelings, or any sense of unfairness in anybody's mind. No one, of course, would ever intentionally want the job if someone else did, but...it just seems as though it might be a tad confusing and embarrassing to anyone who might be hesitant to either nominate (or vote for) themselves or someone else.

The mascot mule would only be representing us with the entire guild's permission. For example: The mule wants to go on bebo and snag himself some GO phones! He wouldn't even need to show up--just his link would be posted, and we can all bump up the meter!
For event threads: There could just be a set of rules--like...no posting with the mascot, and no wandering around with him. He is just supposed to sit up at the top of the thread like a good little mascot, lol! He would pretty much just be a puppet--with a new puppermaster for every event! 3nodding
All trades with the mascot mule can be done through Metal's Mule, (with Metal's permission, of course!)

Oh, gollies, no worries! mrgreen The item owners wouldn't have access to the mule at all, should that be how the mascot is clothed. All trades would be done through Metal's Mule, just like with the guild contests and donations. I mainly brought the "borrowing" from ppl. idea in, in order to save the guild moolah! For instance, say the mascot was to wear an Aquatica, and someone had one, they could let him borrow it--and conduct the trade through Metal's Mule (who would then trade with the mascot). I don't know about some of you, but I have some items that I have, but basically sit in inventory--I thought might as well put it to good use.
But....it's true, it could get kinda confusing returning items. xd
The idea of just donating at the beginning is good, too, and gives alot of opportunity for us as a guild to give what we feel comfortable with.

Which......leads me to an alternate idea for dressing the mule(s):
Remember the tektek we had for Valentine's? (new members--more coming up! wink ) Everyone got a chance to enter, and a chance to vote. The winner was chosen by all of us as a team--so each event could have a similiar contest. The winning tektek of this contest could be the outfit our guild mascot could wear for the event. (given a price limit, of course). Those items could then be donated, purchased or whatever is agreed upon by the guild.

Well that's weird! I tried to post my post *points up* earlier, and I clicked submit, then the computer froze up. xd So, I will try again, lol!

With the whole dressing thing--yeah, it could be up to the person "in charge" at the time of the event, or there could be a contest, or voting or donations--whatever everyone wants. For basics though, like Purple and Rosey said, the starter or cheap (but nice) items are fine.

Thoughts also behind a mascot --just so's y'all will know a bit more what the reasoning was, in part.
---alot of us have a concern about possible hackings. It seems like some of us have either been victims, or know of someone who has. Robbing a "virtual" person is a really rotton thing to do, for sure. So, if it has even a potential of happening (as many of you shown concern), then I thought it might be better if the character in the limelight NOT be any of us--but instead a mule of the guilds' that doesn't have any assets. 3nodding

I kinda agree with Purple on this one--I don't quite know why he/she would need one, since the mascot wouldn't really be doing anything, aside from looking spiffy! Unfortunately, I stay out of the towns nowadays too--toooooo much strangeness. sad

one way to know who is controlling the mascot mule is everyone pick a different color and when on the mule only post with that color
PostPosted: Wed Mar 05, 2008 8:49 am

Hm, that's a good idea, Grizzel! No one outside the guild would know what that means, so it would be perfectly safe, and could be good to cut down on confusion. smile
We'd better make the mule (if we're gonna) soon, though, the event draws ever nearer... ooooo... eek

As far as dressing the mule why not have it wear items from previous Gaia events? Like at Halloween we got the dress, hat etc and at Christmas it was the white jeans, vest etc. We could donate those items to the mule (none really costs that much and I'm sure we all have extras) and it would be dressed for the "season" so to speak.

Also how does having a home cost money? When I joined I got all the starter furniture when I got my starter clothes. Not sure why we would want one unless we wanted to have a chat session there but we do that here. But just curious why it costs as I don't remember paying for anything.

Hello there ^_^

I'm one of the new event mules heart
As you can see, I'm male. Metal gave my some starter gold (25k) and right now I have nothing but the clothes on my body ^_^
Please use me for events and for other purposes wink

In case someone wants, please donate items to me.

As long there's no event near, nor is any ownership settled, Metal will keep the password and all that to himself, but I'm sure he'll be pleased to hand it out to people during events ^^
