WhitePhoenixRyoko Well yeah, when people say Fay, I think the (Yuui)Fay we've known for the past 150+ chapters. I know that the Fay we've known is Yuui, but when we're talking about the twins, I always get him and his brother mixed up. Fay...Yuui....AGH. Brain shut-down. Gotta go reboot it... gonk Yeah, the name-switcheroo was a very CLAMP thing to do; I was mildly irritated, but I guess pulling stuff like that is to be expected of those crazy, amazing ladies. I agree, Kurogane'd probably call FayYuui by his given name once he actually gets around to it. And personally, I prefer the "Yuui" spelling; "Yuuy" is just too phonetic and wierd-looking for me... xd ...great. Now I'm gonna get Yuui and Yue (from Card Captor Sakura) mixed up... gonk It's going to take some time for me to get used to it, and don't forget about Kurogane's real name too...

Mattaku, that's right! I'm sorry, but that was a very stupid stunt CLAMP pulled. Several of my friends and I all agree that they could have definately picked an amazing "real" name; why the hell did they go with something as obnoxious to pronounce as "Youou?" (double long O's? WTF. scream ) At least we had more than one sound going into the pronunciation of "Yuui!" gonk
Sorry, but Kuro-sama's always going to be Kuro-[insert ridiculous suffix here] to me. stare

I agree 100% with you! Of all the names that they could have chosen, CLAMP just had to choose a name that so "un-Kurogane-ish" and not to mention weird... crying Kurogane and Fay shall still be Kurogane and Fay to me. (At least for the time being)

Every single Tsubasa manga/guide I've read spells it Fai, so that's what I use. Not to mention in Japanese, the pronounciation of F-eye is written as Fai. I should know because my name is Mai (one of the reasons why I was drawn to him in the first place) and is pronounced the same way. Wasn't there an explanation about his name in the back of like the third or fourth volume or something like that? neutral

I prefer Fai. I'll try to explain, but I'm not sure how to explain it. XD I just can't look at the Japanese katakana for Fai's name and get 'Fay' out of it, I guess. When I see it translated as 'Fay', I think of 'Fei' because of how Fay would normally be pronounced in the English language, which makes me think of Fei Wong Reed, and I hatez hiim. When it's spelt 'Fay', it tricks me into thinking it should sound like 'F-eii' instead of 'F-aii', and that isn't enough distinction between Fei Wong for me. Also, because it's officially translated as Fay, a lot of the TRC fans I've met say it improperly, as 'F-eii'. That further confuses me and I have to ask whether they mean our wizard or that stupid a**-chin. x] And then I feel stupid.
Also, to me, when it's spelt ファイ, it feels like it should be spelt Fai to coinside with the sounds of the Japanese language when you pronounce the katakana. Fay would be the equivelent of フェイ for me. I dunno. I'm picky. Whether CLAMP actually meant 'Fay' as in 'F-eii' when they used the katakana or really meant it to sound like 'Fai' to people is a mystery to me. @ @""" A big confusing one. Either way, I can stand both spellings, but I prefer to use Fai unless the situation calls for me to use the official spelling.
And I totally did not notice the fluorite/flourite thing. o____o" LOL. Oh wow. I thought the rock was spelt flourite. No wonder my spellcheck was telling me I failed whenever I typed it out..
EDIT: I had to laugh about the Youou thing with Kuro. XDDDD The pairing name is You/Yuu? LMAO~~. Or Youou/Yuui.. Whatever you prefer. But I think calling it Yuu/You is actually kinda adorable.. *-*

I spell it Fay simply because that's how it's spelled. xd And he's not Japanese anyway, so I don't we can use the logic of the Japanese language. domokun

Hehe, you do have a point there The Clammy Avenger! Though I too spell it Fay because that's really how it's spelled, and I'm always one to use the original spelling of names...

About Fay's name ( ファイ ):
Well, let's look at the katakana that make up Fay's name: "fu" ( フ ), little "a" ( ァ ), and "i" ( イ ). When you put the little "a" after "fu", it's read as "fa" (ファ) . Add on the normal-sized "i", and the literal translation from katakana to roomanji is "fai" ("fa" pronounced like "father", and "i" pronounced like the English letter "E"), hence the translation of the name to the more phoenetic "F-A-I" spelling. [/being a Japanese language-dork .__.; ]
Clammy-san has a point: Fay isn't Japanese, so I guess CLAMP-sama spelled our dear wizvamprate-cyclops-man's name "F-A-Y" to make it look more foriegn...then again, this is just speculation. I'm not CLAMP-sama; I'm just a lowly, rabid KuroFay fangirl. sweatdrop

Meh, it really doesn't bother me either way. No matter how his name is spelled, we're all talking about the same person.
Regardless, I spell his name Fai. That's the first way I ever say it spelled and so that's just how I spell it. I've done it for four years so I don't think I'll change any time soon. Either way, Fay/Fai/Fye isn't truly his name anyway. xDD

Then again, it still leads to the spoiler: [Yuuy or Yuui] thing...

@Minight Sapphire: That's what I was thinking! xd As I was reading these arguments, I thought to myself: "Well, that's not his real name, anyway..." But then I remembered the conflict between those two names. .__.
How do you prefer to spell his "real" name? I prefer to spell it Yuuy because it doesn't look so Japanese that way. sweatdrop
As for the pronunciation/spelling of the name Fay: I don't know if I'm even making sense here, but I think I remember CLAMP saying that they based the spelling of Fay's name off of how you'd pronounce it in Spanish instead of how you'd pronounce it in English...
I won't even get into Vic's argument about the spelling of Fay's name... stare

For a long time I spelled his name Fai, and I didn't plan on changing that. But ever since I joined this guild I've been spelling it Fay ... X3 Even on the fanfic I'm writing I spell it Fay >>; Either way, I personally feel that Fye best expresses the actual pronounciation of his name... So I don't know xDD But, like others have said, it's not his name anyway ;D

SHEESH. Reading all that was confusing. Hang on a minute. *bangs head against the wall*
Okay. But the spellings are okay. I perfer "Fai" just because it looks weird. But then if you add that they are not Japanese then the name would be spelled differently; as well as his twins.

I hate how people spell Fay's name as "Fye" or "Faye".
It's too annoying. "Fye" reminds me of "Rye" and "Faye" is just weird.
