Acacia looked wistfully at the pool in front of her, deep in thought. "Don't even think about it," Rylan said aloud, scaring the girl. His eyes were closed, but Acacia could see that his shadows were doing the work for him. "Hey! It's not my fault I can't seem to drown!" she complained, looking back at the water. "You're a water elemental. Deal with it. Why do you even want to drown yourself anyway?" he asked. Linus and Melissa were out in town, but the late hour was getting to him, and he felt the urge to talk to someone. Therefore, Acacia was the only option, suicidal or no. "Because! I feel bad! I'm depressed," she said, smiling. "So, that's what depressed people are supposed to do, right?" "...You are one messed up child." "I am not a child!"

Without any servants or guards, Valeria found her stay in town quite troublesome. She had been a blueblood for as long as she could remember and worse of it all, she noted the wanted posters for her already in such a small town. And it really was the talk of the town, too. People discussed how selfish she must've been to throw away such a life and who would end up catching her and getting the impressive sum of 5000 gold pieces.
She quickened her pace, now just wanting to leave and ride off to a new town with Elena. Was there no one who was willing to accept her and her powers for what they truly were? Valeria doubted it.

Someone came and fetched Sasira in a matter of seconds. She kept her face impassive as she stepped out, very much aware of the General's eyes upon her form. While she wanted nothing more than to spit on his face and run, she kept her face impassive, if not rather seductive. So they brought others. She wondered if they knew what she was.
At a second click of the General's fingers, Sashira began. She didn't start out with small steps; rather, she merely kept them large and ornate, constantly stepping and swirling around, never taking her eyes off of her audience, even as she spun and contorted her thin frame in ways most would say was impossible. A candle burned in the corner and flickered towards her, as did some of the others. The fire called to her silently, willing her to use it. She did not.

Linus and Melissa walked around town, the pair gaining very strange looks as they walked. Linus, the self-dubbed 'human wall', still had his over-sized axe hanging by his waist, ready to use in any unsuspecting victim if necessary. Melissa was all bubbly and bouncing around, dancing in circles. "...Melissa, calm down!" Linus finally said, his voice deep and handsome. "You're making my head hurt!"
"Yay! Pretty lights!" Melissa said, doing a little dance. "Eh, Linus? Everything OK?" Melissa skipped along a little farther, ignoring the fact that Linus was holding his head and shaking it. She had no idea that she was going to crash into Valeria until she did, slamming straight into the girl. "WHOOPSI! ...Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!"

Renee looked a little puzzled at the dancer, cocking her head to one side. She was of Kilsair birth and so a lot of the things people did in Alaisis were still beyond her. Unsure of how to react, but, wanting to be happy she merely drank her drink in silence. Matthew symapthised with her. He wished he could be as ignorant in the situation, but, unfortunately, Matthew knew exactly what she was.
A slave. Someone taken away from their parents and life without choice. Just like him and Renee. The idea of enjoying it was far beyond him as he boiled in hate of his predicament all over again. He set his eyes on one of the candles himself, tempted to snuff it out with the wind, but, he ended up just looking at it.

Sashira watched each of her observers in turn, hoping, just once, she'd find a sympathizer in the crowd. Lieutenant Stroud and the General were out of the question, seeing as they'd been to watch her before. The girl just appeared to be going along with it, confused. But the boy. The boy had taken his eyes off of her, intead electing to stare at the candles. She watched him intently herself, the faintest hint of emotion creeping into her face. Save me, she pleaded silently. Even as she spun, forcing herself to do as told and keep as much eye contact as possible with General Stroud, her eyes flickered to the boy staring at the candle.

Matthew just closed his eyes in thought when he thought someone was looking at him. At first he thought it was Stroud or Renee, but, it was neither, Renee was merely drinking and eating and Stroud was watching the show whilst in rapt conversation with the General.
How strange, he told himself, but, he remembered suddenly the dancer and a wave of anger passed over him. It had probably been her. He had remembered the children magicians like himself looking to the adults like that. Pleading for help. He couldn't stand it anymore.
As he stood up, preparing to leave, Renee put a hand on his shoulder. She had been about to speak, but, he put his index finger to his mouth to silence her. He knew Renee would understand his hope. "Renee, we have to help her." he spoke in a deseperate undertone. "She's just like us - scared and trapped. Please."
She blinked twice, contemplating his words but hating to go against Stroud. "I know how you feel, but..." she lingered. Renee gave him a small smile afterall. "Alright. Just this once, Matti."
And with that, a small mysterious gust of air from Matthew snuffed the candles out and blackened the room. This would be her chance. Stroud cursed in the dark and the General screamed, "Don't let my prize run away!!!"

Sashira recognized an opportunity when one presented itself. She didn't hesitate to start running, her athletic and thin build carrying her far and fast. She tugged once on Matthew's arm on her way out, knowing full well what would happen to him when they discovered that he had been the one to douse the lights.
The General snagged her wrist; Sashira kicked him and continued running, pausing once at her room for her only necessity, the one she hated to use: the dagger. She grabbed it and made for the outside, hoping with all her heart that the man who had just saved her made it out alive.

"Melissa, now look what you've done!" Linus exclaimed, running after his companion. Melissa had just crashed into Valeria by accident while not looking where she was going. "You ran into this well-meaning, innocent woman here without even thinking about it!" His voice was deep and handsome, and his eyes flashed to Valeria. "...My apologies. She didn't mean it." Melissa was talking a thousand miles a minute, apologizing in nonsensical garble that was impossible to understand.
Meanwhile, Rylan was getting sick of Acacia's moaning about her troubles. "Be quiet for once, girl!" he cried out. Acacia pouted. "Look. I know you're upset. Still, just... Take some painkiller or something! There really isn't anything special about drowning anyhow." He gazed out the window of an inn. He was in his room, and it overlooked a badly kept pool. Acacia was in his room out of boredom, contemplating jumping. Mostly, Rylan was worried about Melissa and Linus. They'd been gone for a while, and knowing the Human Wall, namely the one that had attempted to decapitate Rylan for no apparent reason, and the Airhead, they'd probably gotten into some kind of trouble "But I'm not in pain! I want to drown!" Acacia complained, stomping. Rylan shook his head. There was something wrong with this girl.

"I-I'm terribly sorry! It was my fault for not paying attention." Valeria squeaked, bowing to the two of them. She only just noticed her hood slip off as she flipped it back on her head. She looked at the two of them and smiled, blushing slightly at her mistake. The man looked like a knight, well-built and handsome and the girl, very tomboyish. Was it even a girl? Valeria was not used to that style of dress for a lady.
Matthew felt a tug on his sleeve and smiled. As the lights turned back on, Liutenant Stroud was already onto his game. He was smiling, but, his eyes flashed with rage. Renee knew what was coming and stepped in front.
"It was my fault, sir!" Renee burst out. "It was my idea. I just ... I just pitied her so because she like the little magicians brought here... I'm sorry. I'll take all punishment, sir!"
Both Matthew and Stroud looked shocked for a second, but, both expressions changed almost instantly. Matthew's gratefulness and Stroud's apologetic smile. It was so fake Matthew was riled up again.
"Ah. Yes, I see. My dear, you are too caring for you're own good. It was wrong of me to bring you here, but, rest assured, the General's finest guards will find her and bring her back."
The General himself was red like a beetroot spitting out curse words to his seemingly inept soldiers. "I want punishment, Stroud!" he spat.
"But, of course." Stroud bowed. "Miss Richards will be on a very dreary but difficult mission today. As will her... accomplice." he lingered on the word making a chill go up Matthew's back. "Dismissed." he said to his two soldiers watching them leave.

Linus looked intently at Valeria's face, confused, while Melissa did the introductions. "Oh, it's not your fault I wasn't looking where I was going and I crashed into you and... Linus's always telling me not to do this! Bad bad bad bad bad!" Melissa smacked herself in the face a few times before offering her hand out. "My name's Melissa! This here's Linus. What's your name?"
Linus was still staring at Valeria's face. "...Do I know you?" he asked, He looked from the wanted poster to the girl in front of him and back a few times. "I swear... Melissa, they look alike!"
After her third attempt to jump out the window, Acacia found herself being dragged by Rylan into the streets and as far away from the pool as possible. "H-hey!" she complained. "What are you doing?"
"Looking," Rylan answered. He was using the shadows to find Linus and Melissa. "I'm worried about the others, and you're driving me crazy. If I leave you behind, you'll try to kill yourself and scare everyone else." He could hear Melissa's voice clearly and walked towards it. What he found as he dragged the ever-complaining Acacia shocked him. "...Melissa, shut up and look who you're talking to."

Valeria jumped at Linus' words and when she noticed Rylan, she especially freaked. Bobbing her head in a courtly manner, she pulled her hood down even further and spoke in a shakey voice.
"I-I-I really think I must be g-going now!" she managed before attempting to walk away, although whether it could be classed as a walk was a different story entirely.

"Linus," Rylan said calmly. The large man knew what that meant. "Sorry, Ma'am," he said quietly and sadly, moving easily in front of Valeria. He glared at Rylan before bending down a little to whisper to her, "Don't worry; I won't let him bother you. Promise." Linus may have been block-headed, but he was a man of his word.
"Ry-lan!" Acacia complained. "Why are you bothering this nice, harmless lady? She didn't do anything to you!" She folded her arms and pouted, glaring at the shadow boy.
"Yeah, Ry," Melissa said, nodding and smiling, still shaking with her bubbly nature. "What are you up to now? Last time you pulled someone over, it meant bad news, you know?" She turned to Valeria. In her own, almost country, accent, she said, "I'm sorry, Miss. He don't mean any harm. You go on, yeah."
"This is Valeria de Rossa, that girl on the posters," Rylan said. "You think I'm going to let her leave now? We don't have any money, and supporting each other is hard, especially with our....unique traits. We've got to turn her in." Linus moved protectively in front of Valeria. Melissa just looked a little confused, her hands still shaking. Acacia was just staring at the poster plastered on the wall.

The noble lady took one meek step back and her head went down low. She hadn't expected to be caught this fast. She really was unprepared for the outside world, afterall.
"Are you really going to turn me in then?" asked Valeria, her voice remorseful. "I doubt very seriously that they are people of their word." she added in a quieter voice more to herself. She tried to put on a brave face and not break down or cry although that's what her insides felt like.

"Naw, you're a pretty lady, Miss," Melissa bawled. "Sweet. Ya don't look like country folk. Who knows what they'd do to you," she said. She smiled sweetly and gingerly held Valeria's hand. Linus nodded and stood by Melissa. "...I don't know much, but this lady's done nothing wrong. I say we let her stay with us for a while and lay low." Acacia nodded in turn and waltzed over to Linus. "...H-ey! Valeria, is it? Do you know how to drown when you're a water elemental? I'm having some problems, so--" "Shut up, Acacia. We haven't decided anything..." It only took one look from Linus to shut Rylan up. "...Fine. She goes with us. We won't have enough money to keep each other But keep quiet about it!" He wasn't happy with the situation, but he was already manipulating the shadows of the surrounding buildings around their little party to keep the new girl hidden.
