I've only ever payed attention to American politics. Everyone talks about it at school. They don't talk about Canadian politics, though. Wierd.
I didn't know that Obamma was black before my dad told me last night when I asked who he would vote for if he could. (He didn't answer, just said that he "deed not underrrstand les politiques americannes.")
I told him I would vote for Hilary Clinton, 'cause then she'd be the first girl president. Even if you say that she's more of a man.

There was no legitimate reason for the war in Iraq. We had no right to mess with Iraq's governement; we could have just left them alone. Spreading freedom by force is kind of hypocritical.
I was/am a Hillary supporter and she was probably the most qualified candidate.

I agree on the topic of "bring back the troops" being dumb. These men and women CHOSE to go fight for their country. CHOSE to help sort out the s**t that was happening in Iraq.
I'm not so keen on stirring up the s**t with North Korea, though. They've proved that they have nuclear capabilities, but don't really know WTF they're doing. If we were to attack, they'd probably do something really ******** dumb and turn parts of China or Japan into nuclear waste. Sorry, but I don't think that's worth it.
I think the people who go ******** up funerals with mindless protests should be shot and left to rot in the sewers.
Bush isn't a genius. He's not even all that bright. Like almost every president, he's really just a figurehead, doing whatever seems best based on the skewed half-truths his advisers tell him.
But that doesn't make him a bad president. Makes him pretty average, really. But I think he's done a pretty decent job. Problem is, the media barely mentions when he lowers taxes, or passes some really good new bills.
I can't talk politics with the people here. Canadians seem to blindly intake whatever the media feeds them, without even giving it a moment's thought to read between the lines.
Back in high school we had a discussion on what I think was Afghanistan at the time. Myself and one other chose to defend Bush's actions, the rest were using flimsy "war is bad" type excuses.
I honestly am not too keen on having moved on into Iraq, or moving on elsewhere afterwards, because the USA itself is ******** up enough as it is. Instead of pumping trillions of dollars into helping out other countries, how about we spend that money on helping the economy, creating more jobs, reducing the cost of healthcare, building more schools, making schools less shitty... the list goes on and on. OH, how about paying off that ******** RIDICULOUS amount of debt? China owns USA's a** from all those loans. Which is really not a good thing. Owing debts to another country can get us totally screwed later on.
As for Kerry, he was a sorry excuse for a candidate in my opinion. His entire campaign seemed to have been based off "Look at me! I'm not Bush!" I saw some of the debates, and where Bush was giving explanations of why he'd done certain things how he had, or what his plans were for the future, Kerry was essentially saying "well Bush did this wrong and that wrong, I won't do that." It was ridiculous how far such a shoddy candidate made it. He also kept changing his mind on what he was going to do.
& toward the end he said he was going to keep the troops in, and add more. Thus destroying his fanbase (because that's seriously what they were) enough to let him lose.
Current candidates... I don't know much about them. Hillary isn't as dumb as she seems, and Bill wasn't as bad as we were let on to think. He did some pretty smart s**t during his time, and I wouldn't doubt that Hillary was there helping him along. That said, I still don't like her much. She's more of a republican than some of the republicans, so I don't think she belongs as a democratic candidate. Also, too many people are voting for her just 'cause she's a woman. DUMB.
Which is part of why I don't like Obama. Too many people are voting for him just 'cause he's black. I wouldn't vote for someone 'cause they're white. They're ALL white males, thus I ignore those factors and actually listen to their policies, and what the ******** they're going to do to better the country.
Due to this never-ending primary or whatever it is (sorry, Canadian, we don't have such privileges. We're told who's the leader of the party and have to deal with it) I know next to nothing about the republican candidate. However, looking at the alternative he'd likely end up getting my vote.
My father's american, so he keeps me posted on what's going on & he actually cares. He also watches CNN, which we both agree is pretty extreme in their methods of reporting. The questions they ask are so loaded & skewed at times it's really difficult to trust the s**t they're telling you. Regardless, it's nice to have something more detailed than the crap the Canadian news networks give us.
But I'm going to have to speak up against the stuff Cammie's saying. Sure, what she says may be true about wherever the hell she lives, but where I am we accept Newfoundland as a province, even though they may only be a recent addition to our nation. And from what my brother has told me of the place, they're quite proud to be Canadians.
When people ask me where I'm from, I say Canada, as do all the people I know. When I'm in Canada, they're asking specifically about my origins, because we're a very immigrant-heavy society. Though much of my mother's side and myself were born and raised here in Quebec, my Father is Dutch/English in heritage, was born in Japan, is an American citizen, and a Canadian resident. Yeah, that confuses a lot of people. But that complication is pretty true to a lot of Canadians. We're very mixed and pretty proud of it.
At least in Montreal. Racism isn't an issue here. Language is. xd ;
But really, all the old frogs are dying off and their kids can't be bothered with worrying about having the signs in French - they actually intend to go somewhere with their lives instead of staying in low-paying jobs, so they learn English. All the big business in the province is done in English anyway, 'cause they're international companies.
All this to say I pretty much agree with you Will, you're not alone. However, even some of your arguments are a little flimsy, so try to sort your thoughts out and get your point across clearly before you start calling the kettle black. ^_^

Well thankyou very much Rin. Glad to not be alone anymore on this topic.
Yeah, when I'm frusterated I loose a lot of what I was saying in annoyence. And just go on pure feelings instead of facts, although the feelings usually follow the facts pretty well...
I'm getting better with that. Who knows, maybe I'll redo this rant to make it more worth while to read...

Willhellm Right well... I live in the USA... and I'm tired of seeing things like "Bring our troops home" and "Take our boys out of Iraq". The thing is... Our boys wanted to be there and they find all the negative stuff demoralizing. I'm all for our troops safe return, but they have a job to do and I think they need to finish it. I know a few men over there, as does a few of my friends. All of us agree for the most part who know people over there yeah, we want them to return home to us in one piece BUT we want them to do what they came there to do. We've come out and taken Saddam, but there is still political unrest over in Iraq, and we need to quell it before we can leave unfortunately. yeah that sucks, we went into iraq in what i think is a lie. which pisses me off. and honestly i was reading/watching tv on the vietnam war, and i compared it to this one and i agree with my mother. the iraqi war is starting to look like vietnam. Willhellm And what torques my buttons even more is that there are a few radicals that go around the funerals of soldiers and scream and rant and rave with signs about how "God hates fags" and "God is killing the troops for protecting gays" and "Thank God for dead Troops" all these stupid things. Any function you have in this damned country of ours there will be a rally of anti war protesters there trying to spread their filth and lies about the war to people making them hate our troops who PROTECT US. WHY THE HELL DO THESE SCUMBAGS GET AWAY WITH INSULTING OUR TROOPS, CREATING DISCORD AND CHAOS WHEN OUR TROOPS ARE OVER THERE MAKING THE WORLD BETTER, AND PROTECTING THESE ******** PEOPLE?????? OMFG?!?!?!?!? people are doing that and not getting their asses kicked? i dont support the war but still if i heard that i would still kick the a** of whoever said that. and we have freedom of speech which is why they can, but like i said. im suprised someone hasnt killed them for saying that kind of stuff.
