"C'mon Jenkins, we're gonna get you some help. Just stay with me." Rip held a 9mm in one hand and used his other arm to help Officer Jenkins hop on the one leg he had left towards the direction of local hostpital. His eyes were ever watchful; there had been quite a few surprise attacks from unexpected locations.

"Sergeant... Sarge... I don't think I'm... gonna make it. You should just... leave me, I'm only... slowing you down."

SGT Steele set his only living companion down on the sidewalk against the brickwall of an apartment building. "I'm not going to just leave you," he said coldly.

"Thanks Sarge, but-" Jenkins was silenced as the Desert Eagle in Rip's right hand cracked and the barrel smoked. Rip turned and kept walking, a bullet hole burning in the officer's forehead.

She felt herself freeze up when she heard a bang, and it took her a few seconds of looking for a car collision to realize that the sound came from no bumpers or doors. Instead, she saw a man walking away from another man whose brains had decided to go splat against the wall. Blood was dripping down from his forehead, sliding down the brick wall, and pooling on the side walk.

Kristi felt herself about to scream, but she clapped her hands over her mouth to keep what little she had for lunch from coming back up for revenge. Her eyes squeezed themselves shut, and her muffled voice was all she could get out from behind her fingers.

"I-I guess... I just got a sinking feeling about this near future." He said as he heard a loud bang slamming on his breaks he looked to where Kristi was looking. "My god..." He mealy said as he looked only for a moment before speeding off. F*ck the cops. If he got pulled over now for speeding they could just go choke a chicken for all he cared. He didn't dare stay because of the man who had just blown the brains out of someone else, and he didn't want either of them to be his next victim. "So, you don't mind if we take a little detour to work do you?" He said with a sarcastic laugh.

Finally, she managed to swallow both her scream and her lunch (for the second time -- Gross...), and she squeaked out, reaching back into her bag for the small tin of chai-flavored mints, "We have to call the cops..."

After a few moments of him speeding some more, she popped a couple of mints into her mouth and pulled her cell phone out of her right glove, her fingers shaking as she tried to dial 911. "s**t, I can't even push buttons right now...Did you get what he looked like...?"

Kim looked up suddenly, her eyes widening as she heard the crack of a gun. Or at least, she assumed it was a gun. She really didn't have much a clue, other than having watched too many action movies with her dad. So she stood, despite her better judgement, and headed off in that direction. At this point, she was somehow more desperate to find another lifeform than worry about being shot. She just needed to make sure she wasn't alone.

But a nagging in the back of her mind was telling her to head home and lock up tight. Maybe dig out that gun her dad kept hidden. He didn't think she knew about it, but she'd found it. She knew where everything was. She sighed as she scratched her head again, this time through her hat, and continued forward at a pretty quick pace. Though, for all she knew she was heading towards her doom. Well... come what may.

Rip found a gutter and began to climb. Reaching the roof, he scanned it and the other rooftops with his rifle. Satisfied that whatever these things were weren't smart enough to move upwards yet, he set up a temporary base camp. His radio was useless now, so he set it aside for now. Perhaps he'd be able to make contact with it later.

He set his weapons down on the roof and stripped off his bulletproof vest and bloodstained shirt. The shirt he discarded, but not until after he'd used every spare inch of it to wipe bodily fluids from all of his weapons. Throwing back on his vest, he refilled every clip and every bit of ammo he could. He slung the shotgun to his back, holstered the 9mms at the small of his back, and the Desert Eagle on his thigh. Moving to put one foot on the edge of the roof, he wiped off his scope and scanned the surrounding neighborhood for more of the monster's hiding places.

"He looked like a swat or someone on the police." He said starting to slow down some and forcefully calming his mind. "The bullet proof vest I do believe is standard issue. And he looked like he was loaded." Alex hesitated trying to stop his shaking arms. "We both need to calm down. Take some deep breaths and make the call."

"Start heading back to the scene, but pull around a corner just in case," she told him, forcing her fingers to push the right buttons. After a few moments, the girl put the phone to her ear, but her brows furrowed as all she heard was static. "You're kidding me," she mumbled under her breath, looking at her phone's screen and reading the message, "No signal." For a second or two, Kristi watched her phone, and then recognized where they were, resulting in her shouting at the device in her hand as if that would help, "There's plenty of signal here!"

Leaning over slightly tucking his hand into his side pocket he pulled his cell out. "Try mine." He said as he turned around and started creeping back towards where the shooting took place. Stopping about a little ways from the corner he looked around. "I don't see anyone..." He said softly in a whisper as if the man would be able to hear him. That is to say if the person was a man.

Kim was starting to grow scared. Just what was going on? There was no one here! she didn't see lights on in buildings, she didn't see cars on the road. There was just... nothing. She bit her lip, eyes narrowing a little in agrivation. "Hello...?" she called suddenly, cupping her hand around her mouth. "Is anyone there?" She hadn't quite arrived on the scene where the gun had been fired, but that was probably good for her. It wasn't really necessary that she see something like that. She bit her lip again, starting to walk forward once more. "C'mon..." she muttered. "There's gotta be someone... Hello?!" she shouted again, voice rising even louder. "Someone answer me! I'm serious!" She stopepd moving finally, looking around, actually turning in a full circle to see in every direction. This isn't funny. Not at all... Is the whole city playing some sick joke? I didn't get the memo... She frowned darkly, her pace slowing as she began to wonder if she should just go home. Her hand slipped into her pocket and she pulled out her phone, about to try calling her dad's. But... she didn't have a signal. "...no way."

They probably just cut of my service because I didn't pay the bill in time... she thought to herself, taking Alex' phone and repeating the same steps. When she heard the same static on his phone, however, her brows furrowed, and she pursed her lips to the side. "Yours isn't working, either," she said quietly, but the tone in her voice was pure irritation. "This is ridiculous," Kristi continued, putting his phone in the empty cup-holder, not wanting to bother him as he inched toward the scene of the crime before rounding a corner, "There's no one around, phones aren't working, and we just saw a guy shoot another guy and walk off. What is this, a horror movie?"

His face turned a slight paler as they creapt to the corner of where the shooting took place. As he looked, the body was still there, but there, on all fours, was what looked like a man. His head was hidden and he was doing something to the body, but Alex couldn't tell what. "You might not be too far off Kristi... I think we should try to get out of here." He said as another man started shambling out from a ally way towards the corpse of the man. He stopped, and slowly looked over at the two in the vehicle. What Alex saw almost cause him to throw up. The man only had half a face.

Kim suddenly stopped, hands balling into fists as she clenched her teeth. This was so frustrating... Why was no one answering? She turned, then froze abruptly, seeing a person not too far off, facing her. She smiled, instantly relief filling her as she hurried towards them. "Oh, thank god! I was starting to think I was the on-" She cut off abruptly, her eyes widening as she froze. This person. They... they were missing an eye, and there was a gaping hole in their cheek, allowing her to see straight through to the teeth and jaw. "Sh-s**t!" she screamed. "Wh-what's going on?!" She stumbled back as the... person moved towards her, and took off at a sprint, the thing following behind her. Her hand slipped into her pocket, finding the handle of the wrench. She screamed as she felt it grab her arm and she suddenly turned, other arm flying through the air as the head of the wrench collided with a sound that made Kim's stomach churn.

The thing dropped like a stone, the wrench embedded in its skull. She set her foot on its shoulder and pulled hard, jerking her makeshift weapon free. Then she turned, sprinting back to her home. "Bad dream, bad dream, bad dream...!" Luckily she hadn't gotten far, so soon she was back at the shop, slamming the door behind herself. She looked it tightly and raced up to the living area upstairs, darting into her father's room. She found a drawer, moved some clothing out of the way, and set her hands on a gun. Then she turned, digging through another drawer for the bullets. She fumbled to load it and dropped the box of extra ammo in her pocket. Then she plopped herself down by a window, looking out and down at the street below. She could see more of them in the not so far distance, moving towards the one she'd knocked out. "What the hell is this...?"

Having been busy scanning the town from the roof, he hadn't noticed the other two creep under him until he heard their voices. He peered over the edge of the roof and watched as a male in his 20s came uncomfortably close to 2 of the undead creatures.

Rip hefted the rifle to his shoulder again, taking a quick look through it's scope before firing two consecutive shots, one for each creature. The rounds found their mark. Both creatures' heads exploded with a satisfying squelch.

Once again, her hand found its way to hide her mouth as the man with half the face came towards her. Suddenly, her years studying first-aid manuals and those painful months in Anatomy class slipped away: they were useless, even if she'd wanted to help him. It wasn't that she didn't want to help someone in trouble. It was just that he looked so much like a...

"Zombie."

But as soon as the word left her lips, she squeaked at the sound of more gun shots, her hands quickly covering her ears. When she looked up, she saw the man fall to the ground, and the same fate followed the one who had apparently been chewing on the man who was shot before the two fled. And she was having second thoughts about the man they were about to call the cops on, too.

And without anymore second thought, Kristi reached into the back and grabbed her fencing bag, holding it close with her hand on the hilt sticking out of the top, ready to pull it out. "I-it's a horror movie with no cameras."
