Are you going to "feed" the orphans?
  Sure, why not?
  No, this is so wrong!
  Meh, I don't care...

It's a goddamn gaia event, what is the issue here? Ffaux is right about the Charles Dickens comment; I mean, if everybody who ever profited from marketing the misfortune of another was rounded up, you'd have the entire world population lassoed. Seriously, I think there are bigger issues in the world then virtual orphans, and even Gaia has bigger things to worry about then that. Frankly, I'm shocked that anyone would take it to this extreme.

You know, they may be having a bit of fun at the expense of the orphans, but you know what? Maybe taking care of orphans made of pixels and electrons will remind people that the holidays are a time to show good will to all your fellow man (default of the language, not sexist), and maybe that'll get even just one person to donate actual money, or spend their normal Gaia time helping someone. I'll be honest, I wouldn't have even thought about something like this if the stupid event hadn't called my attention to it. So you know what? I'm in favor of the Gaia event.

And BTW, your thread was moved because it is obviously more suited to this subforum, even I can see that. Ffaux is right, there does need to be some organization, or else the whole guild becomes a chatterbox, so I'm with Lydia on this one. It has to start somewhere, and you happened to be the one it started with. Boo hoo hoo.

The treatment of pixilized children on an anime website is not one of them. I prefer to speak up for the rights of real people.

Does that mean you deny the existence of real orphans? Because those are whom I was taking my stand for. Dicken's characters at least had some dignity, they were based on real people, not those travesties they concocted. And what about feeding them ether and brandy? Ha-ha, what a joke. Yes, I'm uptight, priggish and altogether humourless... I cannot see the punchline in that, and after you reprimanded me so severly for making a joke at your expense, I have a hard time to see how you cannot understand the irony of it all.

If I were an orphan or had people close to me who had been, and I knew that they were offended by the stupid events that gaia online hosts, I might be moved to care. Might. But most people don't take this website seriously.

I never said it was a joke, so I'm not sure where you're going with that humour/less statement. I won't even try to address it.

Just wondering if orphans influence your daily life year round not just around the market holidays. If so I might be able to understand the annoyance that this has clearly caused.
