"That's quite a talent you have, Adon." She smiled at him and took the bottle, taking a long drink. A few moments after that, she began talking again.
"I didn't bother coming back here once I was freed. The memories would be too painful. I spent two more years traveling, getting into trouble, fighting evil sorcerers with a Hish warrior. I had quite an adventure... But in the end I was driven home."
She looks around the basement with the slightest smile on her face. "It took a few months for me to settle down. One can't go from being a hero to being a simple barmaid in a few days... Not that you would know anything about that." She glanced over at Adon with a smirk. "I'm not quite sure how much time passed before I heard that voice... I didn't believe it at first."

Adon chuckled quietly to himself. He knew what she was talking about, but now was not the time for him to interrupt with his own story. He got the feeling that this was the first time she'd told anyone this story, so an interruption wouldn't be wise on his part.
At the mention of a voice, Adon tilted his head slightly then made a motion as if asking her to continue.

"Trazer was alive." She smiled, remembering how excited she'd been to recognize him. "He didn't know who I was at first -- We'd both grown up. He was a bounty hunter, and he and his crew were celebrating."
She paused again for a moment, a warm smile on her lips. But just as quickly her face turned cold. "It didn't take long before everything came crashing down. An old enemy of mine came back for revenge. She forced me to show my demon form to Trazer. I was afraid of losing him... But nothing changed between us. Not long after that, my old enemy teamed up with an enemy of Trazer's. There was a battle... and Trazer didn't survive."
She brought the bottle back to her lips. Her fingers were shaking and her cheeks were flushed. She wasn't drunk; far from it. But the drink didn't relax the tight ball that was forming in her throat or the prickle behind her eyes. Even after all this time, it still hurt to remember that night, the ball of blue fire in Samara's hand, the woman's laughter... Trazer's body at her feet... She didn't remember what happened after that for a month or two. Her sister had watched over her during that time. Triv had been a wreck.

Adon saw the tears building up in her eyes and toyed with the idea of putting his arm around her back. True, they had just met, and she was his boss after all, but in the end she was still just another creature of this planet and needed comforting every now and then. He gently picked his arm up off the stairs and draped it softly over her shoulders, occaisionally sliding his hand across her back to let her know that he was still here and listening.

She let the bottle rest on the stairs before she looked at him again. She still didn't understand why she was telling her story to this man... But little by little her chest was feeling lighter. She looked back down at her knees before continuing, but she leaned into him, liking the feeling of another's touch after so long.
"It was a year before I found out that he hadn't really died... It's complicated. I never really understood it myself. But he showed up one night, out of the blue... Scared the hell out of me too." Once more the smile came to her lips. "Everything was okay after that... We got married, had kids... Two of them, in fact. And then... he came... He destroyed everything..."

Kirby sighed and slowly began stepping down the stairs. "Triv?"

Adon blinked then quickly withdrew his arm from around Triv. How awkward would that be for Kirby? Seeing his co-worker with his arm around his boss.
Adon then shot a glance up at Kirby and held up his index finger. Mouthing the words 'One minute' up at him, Adon then shooed him away. There was no reason for him to see her like this, slightly inebriated and on the verge of tears. Probably bad enough for her that Adon already had.
As soon as Kirby left, Adon turned to Triv and whispered to her, "Go on to bed. I'll bring you a meal later and you can eat it there. We'll finish this story later. We're probably raising enough questions being down here as long as we have anyway." He slowly stood up and offered her his hand as he continued. "When you feel like finishing this story, you and I can go for a walk outside and talk some more."

Triv smiled up at him and stood awkwardly. She'd gotten stiff sitting on the wood in the cold, damp cellar. That, and the drink was starting to get to her. She made her way up the stairs, thanking Adon for letting her ramble on like a crazy person. She kept her hand on her Absinthe bottle and brought it upstairs with her.

Adon chuckled to himself watching her trying to walk up the stairs. He followed behind her to make sure that she made it all the way up, thinking to himself how bad this would look to all the people in the Tavern. That sparked another laugh. They continued to slowly march up the stairs and he thought. 'Hey', he thought to himself, 'all the better if they think that was what we were doing. Then I don't have to try to tell this story to anyone...not that it's my place to tell anyway.'

As if reading his mind, she turned her head slightly. "Hey Adon..? This is our secret, right?" Her hand was pressed firmly against the wall to make sure she didn't fall back down on top of him. Imagine how that would look. Not that she knew what he was thinking. She wasn't THAT kind of demon.

Adon gave her a comforting smile. "Of course Triv. You have my word." He entirely meant every single word that he said.

She smiled back, tried to hide a hiccup and continued up to her room, flopping down on her bed with her arms spread out to her side as she stared up at the ceiling.
Talking about it had helped... but it brought back so many memories. Her mentor's death and his funeral. The entire clan had cried. Even some of her own people had come to pay their respects. Then there was that night... She'd been led to that place... those dark hands, the cold blade. She could still feel them every so often, in her dreams and darkest nightmares. She'd known then to get away from the people she loved before anyone else was hurt. She'd had no contact for several years now... and it was killing her.

Adon watched her to make sure that she had made it all the way to her room then went back to the floor. He started cleaning up some dishes and wiping down tables to make sure they are clean for the next customers that come through here. He really hoped to avoid any questions as best as he could.

It was a quiet day for the tavern. A few patrons entered and left until a heavy snow storm prevented any more travel for the night. Some people rented rooms, others decided to go to the village in a group. About 30 minutes after the last group left, the door opened again.
A young man entered, his clothing covered in snow. He wore mostly dark colors, and a hood covered his head. A b*****d sword hung from his back. Shutting the door behind him, he shook the snow from his body and pulled the hood down, revealing sharp features and a head of long dark hair. His brows were furrowed together for a moment as he let his steely blue eyes adjust to the light in the tavern. Recognizing Kirby from a previous visit, his face lightened. "Trivinia's upstairs?" he asked, brushing snow from his shoulders. "Sorry about the mess... " he glanced down at the puddle of melted snow at his feet. The tavern was warm from a fire in the hearth and the ice had quickly turned to water once he'd left the frozen exterior of the tavern.
