I think I've read the second one though. Here's one for you: Read some Robert E. Howard or Lovecraft. They might b easier considering your taste.
I know both. I've read a lot of sci-fi, fantasy, horror etc in my day, so suggesting these genres won't really provide anything too new.
I guess I should have said as much in my original post.

Ffaux Pas The first paragraph turns most people off. Really? The first paragraph is what intrigued me. *sigh* All right. That's the only book of her's I've read though.

Cin- hey you. Congrats on recommending Rainer Maria Rilke. I love that poet! Spanish Dancer was the first poem by Rilke I ever read and it was wonderful.
As for my tastes, they are experiencing a shift right now. Over the past four years I've gone from cheapy romance a la Nora Roberts and Jude Deveraux to more dark fantasy romance a la Laurell K Hamilton, but now I'm starting to find actual good books to read- My list includes One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Medea, among others.
I enjoy reading Fantasy- right now I'm re-reading the Symphony of Ages series by Elizabeth Haydon. Also, I really want to re-read Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card.
I also have a habit of reading the book a movie was based off of- right now this means I am Legend and P.S. I love you.
I also really enjoyed This is All: The Pillowbook of Cordelia Kenn by Aidan Chambers. And am trying to read Othello.
I'm not sure if that is any help at all.
EDIT: Neil Gaiman one of my favorite authors. I love the Sandman comics, am in the process of owning them, but have read them all. I own American Gods, Neverwhere, Stardust (in graphic novel form) and Good Omens. I have also read Coraline and Anansi Boys.
I have read Mirror Mirror, Wicked, and Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire, and am in the middle of Son of a Witch. I have read the first Hitchhiker's Guide, and enjoyed it.

Lydia Trebond You're talking about Wizard's First Rule and the like? Yeah. I couldn't get through the first one. Really? Wizard's first was the most traditional fantasy in the series...I loved the whole series...I'm sorry you didn't...

A lot of them probably fly over my head, as I am remarkably naive, though, so I may find it easier to enjoy. Also, Ewan McGregor is playing Iago at the Donmar and I want to go SO MUCH. I think I may explode.

I started Focault's Pendulum with every intention of finishing it. got about 100 or so pages into it. I took it with me to the States with every intention of reading it. We hit a book store with two stories. I spent almost $200 on books. I'm going to finish it later. >.< I do like what I have read though.

No worries, that's what the book is for. I lent it out and never got it back, lost it twice, and gave it away again before I finished it. Needless to say, I've been through five copies and I still don't have one of my own. D:

Yes, those were examples of my adventures with the book. I also borrowed it from someone and ended up returning it before I'd finished it because they were moving out of state. But that was responsibility, not losing it or lending it to the wrong person. And it wasn't a copy I'd purchased.
Is that better?

Well, so far it's caused no problems, so either I'm getting them all, or I don't look for much in the books I read.
