I have a strange phobia. Whenever I have to give a speech or presentation to people, I breathe heavily, freak out and/or turn strange colors. The weird part about this though is that I am involved in theatre and don't get stage fright when performing, but whenever I am presenting something aside from a play or a vocal solo, I freeze up and shake uncontrolably. sweatdrop

Kyoki Marie I scream and throw a sobbing, fighting, biting fit when someone comes near me with a needle. Honestly? They have to sedate me. What I recommend is don't try to convince yourself it isn't a big deal. Obviously, to you, it is. If you push down the panic, it'll only come up harder when it's happening. Let yourself be upset- but don't let yourself give in to that upset. Crying is alright- if you want, explain to your doctor how you feel, and maybe he'll come to your house instead of you going to the clinic. If you must go, give yourself something to rely on. Take a piece of knitting, a water bottle, a journal or a sketchbook. When you start to panic, put your energy to work on that- take a sip of water, knit a row on a scarf, doodle on a page of a notebook or sketch. And, yes, explain to your doctor what you feel. It might be that he can work something out with you. And if worse comes to worse, valium can be your friend. i hate needles to...they say "oh it'l onlt hurt a second" when i got my tetnis shot earlier this year IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE INJECTING SYRUP IM MY ARM!!!!...it hurt so bad crying ...oh well...my advice is to not tense your muscle or it'll bruise...just try to stay relaxed you can tense your other arm though.

I used to be afraid of needles. Once, when I was really young(I mean REALLY young, before elementry schooling), I remember going to get a shot and the nurse tried to make me feel better by giving my sister one. I watched tentatively and noticed a few small details that sent me flying in rage when she turned to me for mine: 1-she was about to use the same saringe(sp?) and 2- She didn't take off the cover! She was faking it!.... I yelled at her in protest and told her to do it agian, that's when she pulled off the cap and gently grabbed my arm...I slapped her in the face then started to spaz out in fury and fear and tried running away. I beat the crap out of the poor nurse when she finaly cornered me.. kicked her in the face a few good times with few nice scratches as well, in addition I do remember a head butt some where but the kicks helped alot. At the end I never got the shot or a sticker and was crying- I mean jeez, to her it was just a freaked out kid who needs a shot, to me, I was fending for my freggin life(in my head...The lady fixed herself and said trying to sound very calm 'Next time we'll try agian.' Me eyes bulged and then squinted and I thought maybe next time I'd bring my own shot and we could see who was standing at the end. Years go by and so far as I know, I've done well avoiding 'the shot' until middle school came and students were required to get thier Hepatitus shots and what not. I was freaking out but by that time I grew used to helping others and worrying for them rather than myself. I went with two of my friends and I tried to act like it was all nothing and keep thier nerves down. Anyways, we were seperated and brought into different rooms, I was still calm and thought everything was fine. Then...THEN a lady with tray comes in and was pretty damn friendly in her voice, the unfriendly part was what she was talking about. And I quote:
Nurse: "..Now the key to giving painless shots, is to get it in fast, *claps hands and laughs*..you wont even feel it...Ya ready?"
Me: eek "......."
Now just saying the word 'fast' was truely an understatement. I knew I should've looked away but I HAD to see damn it, it was my body at stake. In anycase I catch her aiming the the little needle on her intended target and all that's running through my head is. ..WHY the HELL is she AIMING!?!!?!?!??!?....WAIT...DOES SHE MISS OR SOMETHING!?!!?... At that moment I realize her motives and she performs it. The sinister women literaly STABS me with the needle and injects the medicine then SLOWLY pulls it out...what jut so it could sink into my head what the hell is happening to me exactly. My eyes bulged and I was speachless, probably cause my heart decided to find a new home in my throat. I was about to protest to my mom when the nurse interrupts me by grabing my other arm and saying very cheerfully 'and now lets do the other one!" I felt spasm seeping in and in the middle of my 'eheh nonononuh-..." She takes the other arm, HARDLY takes the time to aim, and stabs me AGAIN then, AGIAN, pulls it out very slowly. Of course after that I felt like I went through hell but I knew my phobia was done with since I was still standing.
I guess going with freinds would help, it's hard to stay strong for ourselves but for others I guess at times we try to be the heroes.

Needles for me aren't that bad because i've had so many within an eight week period after breaking my ankle. Just count to ten and hold your breath.

I was hysterical. My mom sat me down and we talked for fifteen minutes or so about how I felt and why I was so afraid, and when the time came to try again, I held onto her and sang a song, and when my song was over, so was the blood draw.
Ask for a pediatric needle and a hot water pack. Smaller needle, and the hot water raises your vein. heart

I have a cousin with a phobia of feet, and it's because her toes are webbed. Any ideas on how to fix that?
I'm arachnophobic. D: I've begun to get slightly over it because a spider is in my window [between the screen & the glass] and I named him and decided he'd be my pet. Though by all means, I refuse to open my window. xD It is getting better, at any rate. :3

I do that. "Hello, Mr. Spider. You're welcome to stay in here, as long as you stay in your corner and don't come down near me. Okay?"
Sometimes they listen. Other times I run screaming from the room and sob hysterically until someone comes and takes him outside- because now we're friends and I can't kill him, but he's still in my space.

I couldn't cope with that. Especially in my room, because u know how sometimes if you're afraid of something irrational like the dark you make areas "safe places" where what ever it is can't go? Well my room is kinda like tha,t and having a spider in there kinda screws with my safe place idea because it means that bad things can get in there....
Basically thats a long winded way of saying the spider must go

Spider usually goes, just he goes in a cup out the window. I usually go pick up the cups later. >>

yes i usually use cups and a piece of card or paper to remove it from the room. i've gradually trained myself not to freak out/panic and to be able to keep it together long enough to get rid of the damn thing. As long as there is only one at a time >.<
still gotta work on my fear of blood though. Which is tricky because it has only really developed recently, well in the last few years, so its hard to know the full nature of it. Its quite odd, blood never bothered me when i was younger
