Dream looked at the tom, clearly very confused. "My name's Dream." She answered, resting her tail on her paws while she sat. Her calico pelt gleamed in the sun and her eyes were bright with curiosity and content.

The tom sighed. "That makes more sense. Now I know you're not a Clan cat..you should really go then. We don't like loners on our land. I'll take you to the two-leg farm if you like.."

"No!" Dream yelled as her fur bristled. "I'll never go back and you can't make me!" She hissed. "They're cruel and vile creatures." She said more calmly when she remembered that he was only trying to help her. She saw a mouse and shot out at it. It let out a pitiful squeak before she killed it. "Sorry, I'm hungry." She apoligized to the tom and began to eat the mouse.

The tom bared his teeth and stepped toward her. "Well you can't stay here , let me take you to a diferent part of the forest at least. Away from the Clan. Cliffstar will get one of the warriors to kill you , or worse , he'll get me to kill you.."

Dream thought about it and hesitantly nodded her head. "Okay" She agreed. She stood and then thought of something. "Do they treat all of their clanmates that badly?" She asked, remembering the way he was treated by the other cats.

"No." he sighed. "The cats you saw were my relatives. So , they just choose to treat me that way. Even though I'm older than Snowfur , the white one , they still seem to treat as if I'm not good enough. See , I'm not a warrior. So it's almost as if I'm not on the same level as them." he started walking toward a marshy land and stopped short. "And since you're not a Clan cat , they wouldn't care about you. They'd just want you killed..." His eyes widened as he whipped around to face her. "Unless , are you sure you're not a Clan cat? You haven't gotten lost? Or smacked your head on something?.."

Dream smiled and shook her head. "I'm pretty sure I escaped from my owner's den yesterday morning." She purred. She wondered what he was trying to get at put didn't push the issue.

Dream laughed at the tom. "What kind of question is that?" She asked rolling over on the ground. When she realized he was serious she stood up and shook the dirt and leaves from her fur. "What's there to fear, everyone die sooner or later." She answered. She licked a patch of dirt that had come out when she shook, off of her shoulder and then looked back at the tom. "I don't believe you have told me your name yet." She said aloud, while she was thinking about it.

The tom sighed. "Good , that means when they come to get you , you won't be scared. I hope you're true to your word.." he continued up onto the hill and peered down into the marshy meadow. "That's where RiverClan lies. They're easy to get along with , they've taken care of loners before. Be careful though , you can always come back if you need to.." he slowly started to turned away from Dream but then quickly looked back. "My name's Harestripe. Nice meeting you Dream." and with that he loped up the hill into the tall grass and out of her sight.

Dream looked down to where he had told her RainClan was. She peered up to thank him but he was already gone. "Harestripe" She thought aloud. She looked down again and stood up. "Might as well get going." She thought and began her trek downwards.
