OK, here're my 2 crack-pot theories.
1) Maybe the Boeshane lot had other competitions? Like, Hair Of Boe. And Elbow of Boe. And Jack won the Face of Boe competition. .__.;;
2) D'you reckon the rest of Jack expanded too? I think he'd be quite happy ... I'm not saying any more.

You lot officially have the weirdest minds I've ever seen. gonk

I think (if he IS the FoB) he just got really old, and was in an accident, and then was helped to life-support in that glass tank, and his face grew from all the nutrients they had to pump into the tank, because where else would it go?

xD

and my actual theory is that well, we don't know what WOULD happen to a human who aged way over a natural age-limit. (I don't mean age as in how many years he's lived for, but his physical age) If he IS the Face, my guess is that Boekind is either the people of Boeshane or humankind (after all, Cassandra was last human and by the time FoB dies she's been gone for a while. Though I can't remember when the "last of Boekind" comment was. WAS that Gridlock?), and that he aged so much that his body couldn't cope with it, but he kept coming back so they pickled him to ease his symptoms/pain or something like that. And yeah, he just kept expanding until his head was all that was left and his body's probably this tiny little thing hidden behind it, all shrivelled and wrinkled like the SUPER-OLD Gollum/Dobby!Doc from series3.

Did anyone notice the face of boe is from the 'Silver devistation' the same place the Dr. Yana was found with his Fob watch. (the human chameleon arch form of the Master).

I hadn't noticed that! :O

incidentally, I was camping over the weekend (Duke of Edinburgh) and we've all started calling my mate Bob "Face of Bob" now... it's a lot of fun, seriously.

If you think about it when the Doctor and Rose go to New Earth the Face of Boe says that he's dying. So that means either it's not Jack or something happened with his whole immortality thing.

I think it is a lot more simple than anything mentioned so far. I think he was just compared to the Face of Boe because Jack has lived so long and will continue to live a long life. He seems to be immortal same as the Face of Boe did.

The Penguin of Death
I know jack is the face of boe but Jack can not die whereas the face of boe did die

But Jack can still age, just really slowly -- he said so himself.

I think it's just a case of the energy Rose used to revive him finaly running out.

I dunno, I mean, I'm already familiar with mpregs, so Jack pregnant doesn't freak me out as much as a FACE getting pregnant does....

Snort, snort, choke . . . The thing that scares me is the thought of a giant, um, Thingie of Boe wandering around on its own . . . burning_eyes

Seriously, though, I'm writing some fan fic (nowhere near as rude as this thread!)--what's the date on the "face of Boe is pregnant" comment? I'm trying to figure out (assuming that Jack=Face of Boe), would he still be human in River Song's time in the 51st Century? I'd like to invite him to the wedding . . . mrgreen

............NO COMMENT.

................ALSO NO COMMENT.

And I don't remember what century or part of the timeline "The Long Game" factors into.

If you went the whole he's-already-from-the-51st-century route, it'd mean you're talking about the original pre-Doctor Who Jack. So I don't think that'd work.

I think that Jack is the face of boe because... well... He has 2 be. He says it ppl. what else do you need.

I think that Jack becomes the Face of Boe and later dies simply because he doesn't want to live anymore. Since he wanted to pass his "last great secret" to the Doctor as something that would make sure that he heard, he died so that the Doctor took him seriously.

Also, he reunites with Jack in a couple of episodes after Face dies, and it would seem inappropriate to have Jack meet himself xD
