Trust me Jile, the art isn't nearly as bad as it could be.
And besides, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that it's really hard, and expensive, to take the highly detailed art of a still image and translate it to animation. Especially when the original art pieces are done by different artists.

And the last episode was just... Plain bad. It seems like for every ten things they do that I can live with, they do one big thing that pisses me off. In this case it's the korrits. KORRITS =/= WEAVE CREATURES. And they were freaking horrible looking to boot. Also, the ending to the episode felt rather... Forced, to say the least.

What do you expect from a company called Cookie Jar? These are the same people who brought us completely lame childrens programming such as Johnny Test and, even worse, a show featuring the mascot for toddler products, in other words, Will and Dewitt. In comparison to their other stuff, Magi-Nation is more mature.

I'm not quite sure wether you're talking about 2i going with Nick or Cartoon Network to produce the show, or Cookie Jar putting Magi-Nation there, so I'll cover both bases.

2i & Nick/Cartoon Network:
I'm actually glad they didn't go with Nickelodeon. Because Nick, (as well as Disney, though it has no bearing on this, just commenting), have this really, really, nasty habit of producing so many episodes of a show, and then re-running them so much that people wouldn't want to watch any new episodes even if they did make them. The reason why Avatar isn't really suffering this problem is because it follows a storyline and each episode is canon to each other, rather than the random, mostly self contained episodes that most of their other programming consists of. That, and Avatar is so popular and lucrative, that if they did repeat them over and over until people got sick, they just be kicking themselves in their collective balls. And there was no guarantee that Magi-Nation would be just as popular. Especially since it would be based on a card game, which is usually the reverse order of things. (Most go from a show to a card game, i.e. the Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime came before the card game, as did Pokemon)
Cartoon Network probably didn't do it, because at the time 2i was looking to make the cartoon, Cartoon Network's programming mainly consisted of at most PG content. (Though I can't remember if they had Adult Swim at the time, but considering what they showed there when they first started, I wouldn't be caught dead putting my program there.) Some stuff in Magi-Nation, if they followed the stories, would be considered more along the lines of PG-13. Which was the initial target audience for the card game anyways, but not what Cartoon Network wanted. And the same question occurs as with Nick, "Would it be popular?"
My guess for the reason that they eventually went with Cookie Jar, is because they got so desparate for someone to do the show, they just went with whoever they could get.

Unless a station is producing something themselves, a studio is the one who actually makes the show, and it's up to the station to decide wether or not they really want it, but that's provided of course the studio even pitches the product to them. Considering that some of Cookie Jar's other stuff is shown on WB already, it makes sense for them to put it there. Cartoon Network will eventually get it too, as they have with Johnny Test. But I'm pretty sure that's because Cartoon Network is owned by, or at the very least in a partnership with, WB. But once again, it's up to Cookie Jar what the show consists of.


And I beg to differ about your age group assumption. Plenty of kids 14 and under play card games. Granted, a lot of those are pokemon players, but there are also plenty of Magic, Legend of the Five Rings, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and a few more obscure card games, players. As for on-line games, same argument applies. Especially for the free ones like Maple Story.

For the merchandising, it would probably be directed towards kids a few years older to match the shows age group. Magi-Nation Cartoon Demographic =/= Dora's Demographic. But that's still provided of course it becomes popular enough to even warrant merchandising.

They already tried it in Japan. Or at least the Card Game. I don't think it went over very well since they only ever got the base set. Wether it's because it just plain didn't appeal to them, or they got offended by Dan (2i replaced Tony with him in an effort to "appeal" to the Japanese market) though, I have no clue.
