Cern looked at his line, dead in the water, and then at Io's. Did yours just twitch? Or did you lose your bait? The other part of what she said clicked with him. So uh, does that mean I should play hard to get?

I think it twitched... um... is that a good thing? She asked, tugging on the rod, curiously.

Well, usually it means that either you got a bite or something just stole your bait. He abandoned his rod to help Io with hers. Reel it in a bit. If it fights back, it's a good sign.

Io reeled in, blinking as something jumped out of the water briefly. It tugged, so she tugged back, pulling it out of the water. Huh... Guess I caught one. Um... what do I do with it?

Cern looked at her, ignoring his own pole. When ya catch a fish, you attach it to a chain or really strong line, and leave it in the water. That way it stays relatively fresh. You can dress it here, or take it home and dress it. Want help?

A picture of a fish in a dress flashed into her mind. I think you should help... yeah. Pretty sure you should help. She said, digging through her pockets for a chain. She didn't have one, of course, but it didn't hurt to look, right?

Watch the fish! Cern lunged for it, grabbing it by tail. Even when they're hooked, they'll try and get into the water. Could take your whole rod that way. He holds the fish up to show her. Can't say I blame them, air suffocates them. But since he's going to be dinner anyways, don't see that it matters much. He hoped she noticed how quickly he'd moved that time.
His rod twitched, the line pulling itself taut while he showed her the fish.

Suffocation... fun way to go. She said dryly. I think you've hooked something over there... She told him, reaching for his rod while he took care of her fish. Want me to reel it in?

Huh? He looked over, surprised. Glad you caught that, I would have had to forfeit if it took my rod. Sure, reel it in, thanks. He looked around for something to kill the fish with. You don't have a knife, do you? I don't have my dagger on me, and I'd hate to have to brain the fish.

Um, yeah. She reached down with her free hand as she reeled the fish in, pulling out the vicious looking dagger in her ankle sheath and tossing it to him, then grabbing the rod with both hands and reeling it in all of the way.

He nearly stabbed himself catching the dagger, then put the fish out of its misery. Urf, sure you don't want to dress it yourself Io? His brain snapped onto a small detail. WAIT, if you reel in my fish, that means you caught it!

Io blinked, then grinned wickedly. It does, doesn't it? She asked, catching the fish and pulling the dagger from her other ankle sheath out, killing it quickly. And I'm not sure HOW to dress a fish, honestly... But I'm pretty sure purple isn't this guy's color...

You strip it off the guts, essentially. We can use them as bait, too. He mock scowls behind his mask, growling lightly. Now I have to play catch up. He winks at her to let her know he in only kidding. Dumping the guts off the fish on the ground, he grabbed a large piece back up and baited her hook again. Here, care to recast or want me to?

She gave him a dirty look, casting the line. You'll probably want to see all of the others soon. A few of them have become teenagers. Although I haven't noticed it improving their maturity level... She tacked on dryly.
And my aunt is around here somewhere... You should probably steer clear of her, though. You're just her type.

You're warning me away from someone? How sweet, I didn't think you'd care. He sat back down, stretching his legs out. While we're warning each other, don't go too close to the ship. Ed had various uh, pets at home. All of them accompanied us back. The cat types are huge, and they like to pounce people. He picked up a rock, feeling its smoothness and then skipping it across the water.
Not that you couldn't handle them. But they're really nice, just over exuberant. I'd feel horrible if I didn't say anything and you got in a tussle with them.
So, why should I be wary of this woman? Do I know her already?
