Merci grinned at Gee and she winked, "I dunno what they are, but they almost killed me and Fauve. It's honestly a long story I think. Just really happy to be back here." She couldn't help eying the table with the food. She was starving and while Cinder had better food then she and Fauve had eaten, it couldn't compare to something grilled right in front of her.

Fauve just felt so extremely happy. All of her favorite people were all in the same place. She lifted a hand and wiped it across her mask to dry it of her tears. She couldn't really feel them running down her face, but if dust were to kick up she would have muddy tracks. Everyone knew that something like that just wouldn't do at all. Fauve moved her hand to take one of Nika's 'I'm sorry I left the way I did, without telling anyone. I just didn't want anyone stopping me and telling me it was stupid. I had Merci for that. I am just so glad to out of metal boxes and under the sun again. I really missed you Daddy.' She paused right after she said it, and her eyes got huge. She slapped a hand over where her mouth should be and slowly her eyes inched up to his face.

This was awkward.

Fauve had no idea what had happened, how Nika felt about any of these things. It had just seemed like one of those natural things to say. 'I'm sorry... I didn't...' She just faltered a little bit in her rambling.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:28 am

If she hadn't stopped so suddenly, the word would have gotten lost somewhere with the rest of her ramblings. Nika stared into her wide, and very shocked blue eyes with an identical expression. He hadn't expected that. It'd been so long since somebody had called him that.

It was a title he'd held closer to his heart than even that of King, which he'd been very proud of and very hardened by. How much did she remember?

Fauve's obvious horror and at her slip and shaky apology were what finally brought Nika to his senses. He needed to fix this. Not that anything was wrong. On the contrary, he suddenly felt very light, but he needed for her to know that it was okay.

"No reason to be sorry. You didn't do anything wrong," Nika chuckled softly and planted a swift kiss on her cheek. He had to admit that it felt a little strange. It felt like it'd been forever since he'd actually had the oppurtunity to act like a father. Io, though he was sure that she loved him, had left before he'd realized their connection. He hadn't seen nor spoken to Zahar in a long time and Ashi? She appeared to have everything under control. She didn't need him.

"I'm happy you guys are back," Gee nodded her head and brushed a stray lock of blond hair behind her ear before taking a seat beside Merci. She had so many questions for them. There was so much that she wanted to know.

Somehow, she managed to keep her tongue in check. They could always talk about it while they ate and, save the catching up for later.

Fauve had expected some sort of rejection. Like she had done something completely uncouth. The blond girl wasn't sure how much of the past was allowed to encroach on their current lives, and if something like the relationship Nika had with her and Ashy was one of those Taboo topics. The look on his face had plainly spelled out how shocked he was that she'd said it, which made her think none of the other girls had.

Fauve just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.

The laugh is what slowly started to break the ice that had suddenly encompassed her heart. She suddenly felt the first touches of relief sweep through her. 'I...' She paused and shook her head, 'We're probably not supposed.. I mean we're different people now...' She stammered to try and cover for herself.

She had no idea why she felt like she needed to explain, but she did. For some reason though she just couldn't let go of the hand she'd taken earlier. 'Sorry, I didn't mean to... social faux pas..' Fauve dropped her eyes down and her wings flickered quickly for a few moments before she turned back to look at the gathering. 'Anyway I shouldn't hog you to myself...'

Moving over toward Gee, Cinder snagged something from the table. Looked like a bit of chicken sort of meat...without much thought she wrapped it in a bun. "Cygens, they are insane. Basically they have implanted themselves with cybernetics so much that they are more metal then organic. The machines drive them mad...we haven't found out how yet but they seem to be gathering together." Cinder licked her lips thoughtfully before eating the bit of food she had aquired. "Anyways they harvest flesh. Fresh flesh to suppliment themselves with, put on fresh organic and they could in their own minds live forever. With the war going on," she gestures vaguely with the partially eaten sandwich in her hand. "Their raids have gotten worse and worse, more easy to pick people off...but luckily they most likely won't be showing up here." Cinder gives Gee a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder before leaning back against the table, "so what have you been up to?"

Kasai gave Rhys his best glare, really he didn't have any reason to dislike the other boy so much other then the fact that he had shown up to throw his whole world out of kilter and of course take some of Cinder's attention away from himself. He can't hear me anyways... the corner of Kasai's mask turn in a frown and he turns away from Rhys eventually, it was probably better that he couldn't speak. If he could of at that moment he probably would have been insulting or jealous and made a fool of himself.

Looking over to where Fauve and Nika were Kasai heads toward them, reaching out he gently rests his hand on Fauve's lower back. Nice to see you again Nika, his mind voice sounding more upbeat as he speaks to his old friend. What's that fuzz on your face? Kasai reaches up and touches the little goatee with his thumb his eyes dancing with mischief as he watches his old friend.

Rhys shuddered his shoulders and rubbed the back of his neck where Cinder had been looking. Mumbling to himself more then anyone else, "wasn't going to be a host." He turns moodily and walks to the edge of the area of revelry; fanning his wings when he was well away from the others he closes his eyes and just enjoys the touch of wind on them.

Zahar looked about everyone was catching up. She pulled the bottle of the light liquer towards her. Not knowing what to do she moved away from the group to sit on a rock. Her father was there, Kasai 'not fire' she had to remind herself, the sisters, and gaurdians... Smoothing out her dress again she looked at the bottle in her hands. "I am a coward." She said quietly to the breeze that was blowing through.

So he'd adjusted some to his newly sprouted body. It was different being suddenly taller. . . . very different indeed. So accustomed to his small, wispy frame was he that Satehl still frequently missed it. There were both advantages and disadvantages to being. . . older. Some good, some bad, and some things the young man wished he could do without!

Uta and he had resettled themselves, for the most part, though the predator mage had been overwhelmed with playing 'catch up'. Things had changed since their disappearance and the woman had been doused with both joy and guilt upon her return. She'd done her best to pretend things were like they used to be but. . . .

Satehl wasn't fooled. She regretted the mistakes of the past even now that they had returned.

She feared for him most of all though the dark skinned boy couldn't figure out why.

Like mother like son the teen was torn - for some reason it wasn't easy sliding out of the woodwork and joining in with the others. Where they had spent all their time together on Masquerade, his presence had been missed. Everything had changed. . .

People he never met were grown and maskless. Life had moved on and he was still flailing wildly to pick up the pieces of his past. He remembered a ship. . . a ship they were supposed to discover. He remembered the ROUS and his dream to tame some for his very own, and Ice and Io and Cern and . . . everyone being small like him.

Childhood ignorance had whispered that things would have been different, but in his naiveté he never thought things would have been so drastically so! But, Satehl was adept to change. . .

It didn't bother him, but it did make it hard to find a place to fit. Even on the planet he felt a bit like an outsider looking in. All that time wasted. . . . . Would he ever be able to pick up the lost pieces?

The blitz mask wasn't one to do 'dress up' - he preferred his baggy jeans and his loose tops. BUT this was a party, wasn't it, and Uta refused to let him leave without dressing up a little bit! Teen and guardian had picked up some clothing before returning to the world after such a growth spurt. Though Satehl hadn't thought about it, Uta thankfully had made him pick out some nicer things. She refused to let him run around like an animal all the time.

His hair was slick back and tied loosely with black ribbon. His slacks were black and, surprisingly unwripped, with a silk jacket to match. A white dress shirt was unutucked beneath it, and a few top-most buttons had already gone missing and awry. A black tie had also been toyed with and loosened around his neck. . . . Some would say he dressed up good, but that didn't mean he was comfortable in it.

Cleaned up but a bit disheveled, the boy slunk his way to the party, already noticing the gathering of friends. There was Haisyn and Ash, both dressed up in pretty things. . . It was amazing to see Ash without a mask. She had a face, a nose, and eyelashes. . . . One by one they were beginning to grow free from the curse. But that only made them more different from each other, didn't they? There was Time - the ever important one - holding Fauve. . . Was that really Fauve? She'd grown too, unsurprisingly. . .

Wow.

How long ago it seemed that they were scribbling pictures with crayons.

Would Uta show up? She had mentioned needing to 'finish a few things' but promised to make an appearance sooner than later.

Not sure what to say or where to begin, he caught sight of . . . someone . . sitting off in the distance. He racked his memory in hopes of discovering who it was, but she wore no mask and looked like none he'd met. A guardian perhaps? Who knew?

Trudging over, he decided to make small talk. Let the others catch up with each other - he could wait his turn after all was said and done. You know the last time I checked, one person parties don't last very long. A glance at the golden haired girl before his gaze drifted down to the rock upon which she sat. Hmm. Something didn't seem right about that either. Is that rock =really= as comfortable as it doesn't look? He questioned lazily, tilting his head to the side, violet eyes gleaming with good humor.

Zahar snapped her gaze up from the bottle to look at the boy near her. Blitz... She thought back to find his name now, Satehl. "Oh. I..." She trailed off looking back at the others. "Hello Satehl, I am Zahar I do not know if we officially met yet." Smiling as she stood up, she held out her hand for Satehl to shake. "You were right, the rock was not all that comfortable."

Trivii finished the final touches on her make-up and glanced at the clock. Saniya still hadn't come down. Straightening the neko tugged her dress for the evening into place, as usual she knew black was always apropriate, it wasn't a wedding after all. Strapless, long skirt, slits up the side, stalkings and black stilletos.

Barretting her hair back and up so that only a few wisps fluttered about her mercurial silver eyes, and pinning freshwater pearls on silver pull through chains in her feline ears, to dangle. Unconventional, but it still looked nice.

Glancing at the clock she almost cursed. They were going to be late. "Saniya? We need to go! Lets get a move on."

************

After her long bath Sani pushed into her bed room and looked at the dress on the bed. It wasn't her usual sort of dress, this one was a little more grown up. And she didn't know if she wanted to wear it, so she took a look in the closet and knew it was the only thing she had.

Walking forward she touched the shimmery silk and began to dress, undergarments, hose, three inch heals in pale aqua.

Lifting the aqua dress she sighed and said to herself 'you have got to be joking... Trivii.. I can't wear this.' heat rising up her face from under the mask she dropped the gown, because it was definately too nice to be just a dress, over her head and felt the kris-crossed peekaboo style back and off the shoulder straps slide across her skin.

And shook her hair back before turning to the mirror, her hair had been set in a slightly tighter curl while she was bathing and fell in gentle ringlets to just above her knees. The mask she wore, was as always in place, and the dress....

Hearing Trivii, Sani gathered herself and turned to go down the stairs, it was awkward moving in the high heals. But she somehow managed to master them halfway down the stairs to catch an approving looking from her guardian, and bowed her head. Allowing Trivii to walk her to the party.

**********

On entering the party Trivii scouted out the other guardians and detached herself from Sani, leaving the teen to make her own entrance.

Saniya felt a little awkward, and hastened to find someplace she could hide, she saw all her unmasked friends and straightening her shoulders walked slowly, careful to control each step in the heals...

Ash practically bounced over to Nika and Fauve. "Yeah Dad... stop hogging Sissa!" She play frowned at him playfully and added privately, "So it's ok if we call you Dad? I admit it was always kinda weird for me, I never really could forget our parents back then... but still, it's kinda nice now."

Verran took over from Tavil, who seemed to be bumbling around hoping he would burn anything or make the grill explode, and grinned up at Merci. "And what would you like, Sweetness? We've got burgers, hot dogs, and chicken. Or psuedo-chicken. Something Sis caught."

Haisyn was sort of hanging back. She was suddenly feeling out of place again, and she knew it was stupid... At least Merci had Verran doing something besides being an a**. Sighing softly she glanced around and spotted Rhys off on the edge of the trees. Something about him was screaming "outcast" as much as she was feeling... and she didn't know what the issue was with him and Cinder and Kasai exactly... but it seemed it was important, and if he was going to be staying here for a while she was going to find out what was going on.

As she got closer she realized that his wings were real, and not some sort of contraption like Ash's. She also realized he was abominably attractive. And then she remembered she was in a dress. Ah, dammit. She'd already walked over half the distance to him, there was no one else around him for her to be walking toward, and she'd feel even more like an idiot if she stopped and turned tail now. So she continued her walk toward him and thrust out her hand. "I'm Haisyn." She didn't trust herself to say too entirely much right now without sounding flustered... it was difficult to keep her face from flushing as it was. Bah.

Satehl would have grinned a lazy grin if he could have - instead his violet eyes glimmered in amusement. She was very bright, full of light. . . Wasn't that her element anyway? Just as his was lightning the boy could vaguely remember a mask made of light. . .

Or was he thinking of Nika? Sun and Moon?

Oh bother. . . . Maybe thinking back on past memories wasn't the best thing to do while in the company of a girl. Er. . . lady. Taking her hand in his own he shook it, albeit a bit awkwardly. Wasn't there something more to be done. . .?

This was a dressy affair where the men had transformed in to gentleman and the girls in to ladies. There should have been a kiss on the hand but he had no lips to do as much and he wasn't exactly Mr. Suave either! Romance wasn't something Satehl understood, and even the few rules he had learned by watching movies and reading books, the boy highly doubted he could ever execute the moves.

. . . and something told him that not knowing Zahar would make it even more weird.

Satehl was feeling a bit strange and awkward as it was - no need to add to it. I . . . I don't think we have, he agreed, his free hand reaching up to rub at the back of his neck. The pleasures all mine, really. But. . . uh. . . . can't I find you a chair or . . . . or something? I mean, he added hastily, not wanting to offend, I mean if you're really digging the rock idea I can at least get you a pillow or something but. . . . .

He left his sentence hanging, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly. He knew his manners and some form of etiquette. While he was younger and far too hyperactive for his own good, age had calmed him. . . somewhat. He at least knew how to keep himself still and settled without being obnoxiously antsy.

But just because he'd matured didn't mean he had mastered the art. He felt horribly awkward around everyone, regardless of his good intentions. Hopefully Zahar wouldn't feel the same.

A glance over at the crowd, picking out the strangely familiar yet ever so . . . distant crowd. It never occurred to him that Zahar might be a bit intimidated by such a group as well.

He caught sight of Saniya - now THERE was someone he hadn't seen in ages! At least he knew the quiet girl before his disappearance. . . Would she remember him at all? Maybe. Maybe not. Yet another one he'd have to reintroduce himself to.

Looking over the other Masque children Sani recognized Fauve, the unmasked Ash, Zahar also unmasked, Kasai, and the unmasked Nika, Galilee whom she had only ever met in passing, and Blitz.... Satehl. She recognized almost all of the Masques, it was only the Guardians and their guests who were foreign. And only Fauve, Galilee, Kasai, Staehl and herself whom still wore their Mask.

Looking around she moved to the table that had been filled with snacks and refreshment, ladling herself a small glass of punch, and moving off to find a seat. She needed to relax a little before she would hunt down conversation.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:13 am

Zahar smiled at the awkwardness that Satehl seemed to be projecting. She nodded toward the table that the refreshments were at, and now Sani, she noted. "I really should put this bottle with the rest of the refreshments. That and Saniya is over there, I have not seen her in quite some time. Our gaurdians were friends and so I used to know her." Pausing slightly before using Satehl's words. "And last time I checked, one person parties do not last very long." She winked at the blitz teen.

Satcehl chuckled in good humor, an infectious sound he had yet to grow out of. Well come then - let's be socialable this evening! You have the wine, I'll sport some chairs and glasses, and out little party of two can perhaps bloom in to a party of three, eh?

Etiquette, manners, politeness. . . Allow me to be your escort over to the good lady Saniya. He asked, his good humor and gentle jest beginning to relax his poise. It was a way the blitz mask had always gotten away from stress or nerves. . . His ability to joke, his endless curiousity, and his great humility. Trouble never bothered him as, being a bit of a wild child, it often followed in his wake.

There was little the lightning mask feared, very little negativity that ran through his spirit. But that didn't mean there was darkness. . . and a deep need for acceptance. His entire childhood had been nothing but a desire for home. He was on Masquerade now but. . . . was it really home?

Offering his arm, he bowed with melodramatic charm, eyes dancing in good humor. Maybe this gentlemanly-stuff wasn't so bad. . .? It was starting to become easier, so long as he kept it all in joke and play.

Maybe being taller wasn't such a bad thing. . . .

((Sorry for the short post. ._. I gotta get to work.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2007 6:31 pm

Zahar curtsied and then took his arm. "Why thank you kind sir." She laughed and smiled at the blitz teen. She hadn't felt this comfortable around one of the masks, masked or unmasked, since the last time she was with Galilee. "I hope that Saniya will nto mind the intrusion, and even more so that the wine I have will be better then poor mans swill. I do not know how Kataio likes her wine." Laughing again lightly as she looked at Satehl beside her. Zahar held the bottle up and added, "It smell not so bad but I did not have a thimble of a taste. Do you like wine?"

Satehl glanced down at the golden haired Zahar, looking from her to the bottle of wine within her hands. I . . . I can't say I've ever had it before he admitted, shrugging his shoulders dismissively. About the worst I invested in was expired grape juice on some tiny planet light years from here, he chuckled, shaking his head at the memory. He'd thought he'd been so grown up dabbling in different fruit drinks. . .

It had been fun, of course, but not so delightful that he'd forgotten about his playmates on Masquerade. It seemed every memory of his childhood had been touched with loss and regret. . . Why did he still feel it? I'm afraid if this tastes anything like that than I may have to settle with water. But, he added in defense to the wine, I was much smaller then. . . We'll hope, for the sake of the wine and this party, that my tastes have indeed changed!

The long legged blitz loped his way easily over to where the Aqua teen had settled herself. My how everyone had changed. . . . and so drastically too! Was it just the fact that there were dresses on all the ladies, and good smelling food and drink and colour and music? Everything had a . . . a glow to it, a sensation that he'd been at parties before. . . .

Deja vu?

No. . . .

But maybe it was good he'd decided to show. Maybe, mingling with the rest, he could begin to relax. Clearing his throat, hoping to catch Saniya's attention, Satehl's violet eyes glowed. Excuse me miss, but it seems you're in the company of some empty chairs. . . You wouldn't possibly mind if we settle here for a time, would you?

Ever the gallant gentleman (or was he a fool?) Satehl was finding more and more how much he enjoyed the gallantries of formal parties. It was fun to repeat all the romance and chick-flick films he'd been subjected too in his universal travels. Childhood stories fluttered through his memory like film through a shutter and he couldn't help but inwardly beam.

This was fun! Who cared if he sounded ridiculous?
