loony_lenny Well, I was very disappointed with this book. It could have been so much better. I won't even go into rant mode, it'll make me mad for the rest of the night. It felt VERY much like a fanfiction to me, instead of the real book. When I got to the Ron/Lavendar bit...well, I was very close to getting back in the car, driving to Wal*Mart, and demanding that they give me the REAL book. Very, very close. I think the plot was horrific. And she should've named it something else. I don't see how the Half-Blood Prince is relevant to the horcrux plot at all. I think the book could've even been fine without the Half-Blood Prince subplot stuck in there. But, I won't say anymore, because I've already said I won't rant. But, ugh. Very disappointed with it. *claps* My thoughts exactly. If any of the books could convince me that HP isn't the best series out there (and it isn't, I'm sure), it would be the sixth one. It sounded to me like Rowling was catering to the fans more than she was to her own ideas. I felt this especially during the whole Remus/Tonks ordeal, as well as the Lavender/Ron bit (both were very sloppily written, and it seemed to me that she added those parts on a whim after reading through a HP fan forum or something ["Oh, so that's what they want! Great! I'll just pretend that this book won't already be a bestseller and add in some unneccesary shipping, just for my fans!"])..

Eh, I said I wouldn't go into rant mode, but I will anyway. Because I've got nothing better to do(I could go to bed, it's past midnight, but...nah). Where to start, where to start? Why, the beginning of course! Hehe. The first chapter was a tad unnecessary, in my opinion. It's nice to know the back story with the Ministers and all. But, itt was just an awkward chapter for me. The second chapter I liked a lot. It was really interesting with the whole Cissy and Bella and Snape thing. Good chapter, no complaints there. Then the whole 'Hi Harry! It's Dumbledore and I'll be coming to get you soon.' thing was kinda rushed and wierd. I think Jo coulda handled it a lot better, with a few changes and such. I did like the whole Kreacher wanting to go to Bella thing. But, Dumbledore simply suggesting Harry send him to work at Hogwarts was entirely too easy. She should've changed that a little bit, although I don't know how. I did like the whole Dumbledore-Dursley interaction thing, that was hilarious. And then, Slughorn. The way she wrote Slughorn was very... in the middle. You know? You could easily like him or hate him. It could go either way. Jo didn't leave us with a clear opinion of him. I didn't like that much. But, it was good enough. The way Harry unknowingly convinced Slughorn to teach was good, I'm just not fond of her portrayal of her own character. Then they apparated to the Burrow, all fine and dandy. Dumbledore's little chat with Harry, good. Loved the Mollywobbles bit. All fine here. Next morning- good. Having Fleur be all annoying and such was definitely not expected. She seems likeable enough, you know? But, I adored poor Ginny here. Hehe. I saw Bill/Fleur coming, all's well there. Yeah, yeah, all good for the most part. Up until Hogwarts Express. I, honestly, can't see Draco letting everyone leave the compartment before hexing him and such. It would be more in-character of him to do so in front of his friends so a.) they could help and make him a jumbled mess or b.) he could show off. It seems more logical for Draco to hex him right when he saw his shoe rather than after everyone had left. I detested Harry sitting there in the compartment. It felt very fanfiction-y to have that happen. WizardInDistress!Harry anyone? Hehe. I was braced for Ginny or Luna(preferably) or some other girl to come save the day and have some romantic fluffy crud. I really did expect that. Then Tonks came. Man was I relieved. But I don't like Depressed!Tonks at all. That was SO out of character. I dunno, but I wasn't feeling her pain or anything. I was like "Er...Tonks? As in Nymphadora Change-my-nose-between-bites-at-dinner Tonks? Nah, that ain't her!" Argh. So, then Hoggywarts and silly Snape and then!!!!!!! Snape's Dada teacher? Huh? I was surprised, I can tell ya that much. Then she went on to hardly mention Dada class! I think she showed one class and then nothing. No Snape torturing Harry, no Snape snearing at Neville, no NOTHING. I was like...uh? Then, there was the whole Potions class thing with the HBP. Argh. What was the point in the HBP subplot, I ask you?! She showed entirely too many useless potions classes with the almost useless HBP subplot. AND WHY DID SHE NAME THE BOOK AFTER THAT? I can see Harry Potter and the Seven Horcruxes or Harry Potter and the Strolls Down Memory Lane or Harry Potter and the Horcrux That Was Not a Horcrux That Killed the Headmaster with Much Thanks to the Potions Master Gone Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor(hehe, kidding) or Harry Potter and the Suddenly Romanticized Novel(joke) or Harry Potter and the Headmaster's Pensieve(yes, I realize I should not be allowed to give any novel a title. Ever.). But why Half-Blood Prince? WHY? It makes no sense I tell you! And now I'm becoming tired and won't be half as specific as I'd like to be. Ron/Lavendar was rushed and heartless. There was no point to it, except making Hermione jealous. I can see it happening if maybe there was more reasoning behind it besides the 'Harry came into the common room and saw Ron eating Lavendar's face. And they did that a lot. In fact, almost every time Ron is in this book for a little while, he'll be eating Lavendar's face. Ask no questions. That is just how it is.' I mean- COME ON! Then stuff and stuff and Harry and Ginny. 'Oh, Harry! Oh, Ginny! I've just caught your eye and I realize we are meant to be- KISS ME NOW WITH NO EXPLANATION BESIDES THIS!' Argh. Really made me mad. Not just cause I'm a Luna/Harry shipper. If it's to be Ginny and Harry, I'm good, too. But, not in that way. He saw her kissing Dean and then suddenly he can't stop thinking of 'His best friend's sister, his best friend would kill him, blah de blah' *barf* NO JO! STAY AWAY FROM THE EVIL FANFICTION THAT IS TAKING OVER(although I think I read somewhere that she's not allowed to read her own)!!! She could've handled it FAR FAR better. I felt like I was watching a BAD romance movie. A very bad romance movie. I'm entirely too tired to rant about the ending and the plot at this time, but I'll get to it tomorrow. I promise. Hehe. Ah well, that's a good sized rant anyway. And, I don't think I'm being a little harsh. That's just my opinion. She did a lot of things right, I agree. But, she did a lot of things wrong too. It is, by far, the worst of the six Harry Potter books. Even worse than the first(which I haven't read since the movie came out, because it tends to bore me). But, maybe after I finish rereading it, my mind'll change? *shrug* I dunno, but my opinion stands as it is for now. Hoping I didn't offend anyone with my rant, as I often end up doing.

xd Lovely, lovely.. I'm glad someone shares my opinion on the book.. It did have the exact feel of a really long, sloppy, romantic fanfic.. sweatdrop I can't say I was too thrilled when Rowling started throwing her characters around like that. As much as I like fanfiction, I find that I also enjoy a nice, real, Harry Potter novel, not some knock-off of a bunch of other fics that were totally irrelevant to each other (which is exactly how it felt to me). The most disappointing thing of all to me was my reaction to the book as I read it. Past the usual anger, I felt a sort of.. detatchment from this volume that I've never felt for any of the other books. It almost made me want to quit HP altogether, because it felt so heartlessly written.

Well if you think about it the whole story wasnt basd about anything except how to kill voldermort and well she could of named it alot of things personally i think the HBP thing was kinda funny cause Harry and Ron are prasing him through most of the book till Harry almost kills Draco and like They find out that Snape was the HBP, its not a great book but it still was just a part of the brilliant mind that brings us the "THRILLER" we need.

I wouldn't be surprised if Harry turns out to be a Horcrux (or maybe just his scar... and then Voldemort wil be like "MWAAHAHA give me your heeeead!"), or if he has to rip Riddle's spirit out of Voldemort's body..

I'm sure it will be soooo much more complicated than we think it will to kill Voldermort. Otherwise it would be rather anti-climatic wouldn't it?
As for the book itself: I liked it, over all, though it certainly wasn't as well written as CoS, PoA, or OotP. It felt so...rushed. I don't know if I could read it through again, but it is usful. More Regulus, at least mentioned 3 times. Whoot.

I read the fifth book three times in the first week because it was so good, but with this one, I just read the last page, put it down, and said, "Oh." Also, my thoughts exactly on the Voldemort dying part. Like I said (like you said, too), it would seem like a complete waste of a really great series if Harry just had to do one thing in order to defeat him. There almost certainly will be a twist of some sort (or else Rowling will wake up the morning after book 7's release to find her house being burnt down by angry fans).

my thoughts exactly i think harry is a horcuxe because really if you think about it he can connect with Voldermort well he used too but really if volermort was killed easily there will be a book burning happening all over the world lol. BUt yeah what did you think about the lake of Inferi scene i keep thinking of the i think its Dawn of the dead or maybe 28 days later scene where the zomibe heads pop up really fast abd it freaked me out lol it was funny.

Ooooh zombies terrify me. I was like "Harry you idiot! Don't touch the water! Haven't you seen Lord of the Rings!" Then...the zombies came and I had to pause to remind myself that the whole story wasn't real and just taking place in my head and I wasn't really surrounded by the undead.

Exactly. I have a very vivid imagination so *shrugs* sometimes I get a little caught up in things. Like when Sirius died in OotP I threw my book across the room because I was so upset. Then I said, "stupid book. Now I have to go get you." It was very annoying sweatdrop
