long long ago in a galaxy similar to ours (that would be 2nd edition) Marines were bought in 10-man squads, but were able to be split into 5-man combat squads deployed separately...I wonder how the Dark Angels have it worded now?

Squads (Of Marines, Scouts, Veterans, Devastators, and I think Command) can be bought in squads of five or ten. (Aside from Veterans and likely command, who can have any number of members.) If it's a full squad of ten, they can split in half and each count as seperate scoring units. Ravenwing Squads also have the combat squads rule, and can split biker squads in half, and the Ravenwing Strike Force thing Squad can split up into seperate sections.

lol like 12 scoring units from 6 troop choices? some missions would be very easier in this setup... (nvm guard can have 36 scoring units from troops alone)

Big Boss OBrien Van Evok long long ago in a galaxy similar to ours (that would be 2nd edition) Marines were bought in 10-man squads, but were able to be split into 5-man combat squads deployed separately...I wonder how the Dark Angels have it worded now? If it's a full squad of ten, they can split in half and each count as seperate scoring units. Ravenwing Squads also have the combat squads rule, and can split biker squads in half, and the Ravenwing Strike Force thing Squad can split up into seperate sections. Only veterans can add an uneven amount of models to its squad, the command unit is stuck at five and scouts, Tacts, Devies, bikes and Assault marines must take either a minimum squad or a full squad for "X" amount of points. On the topic of the new DA codex, I'm torn between hating it and loving it. I don't bother asking any GW reps about it down town because they can't say squat against GW or any of its products, not that I think any of them would even want to, they don't seem to be of any opinion but that of the Omni-Workship. In my opinion I openly dislike it, but I'll play Dark Angels till the end. Mainly because Dark Angels players now pay about 30% more points for an army than a normal marine army does. I can't count the Black Templars that's the only codex I don't have and I know the Wolves pay more for marines but at the very least they can ultimately choose where to spend their points. Normally I don't take Vets in my squads, its a waste of points when my commander is on the field plugging away with his storm bolter. The plus side is we pay less for Razorbacks and we can take them even if we buy the full squads of ten since we can split up the units. The only thing that really gets me is that when I play a 2000pts army I know my opponent will be playing with roughly 400pts more than I am. I'm not a bad player and being the underdog has become somewhat of a habit over the past little while but even so I don't think its entirely fair. Call me a whiner but even so, I can't argue with Johnson and Hoare anymore than the rest of us can so I'll simply bite the bullet. Besides, if I can't beat my opponents with marines, I might as well do it with Terminators, or failing that, bikes and speeders. the Demon

Besides, if I can't beat my opponents with marines, I might as well do it with Terminators, or failing that, bikes and speeders. the Demon Well, I'm kind of the same way, but I've decided I'll deal with it.Seems all right, just different. I like how the Ravenwing and Deathwing can easily be integrated into a regular army. Also, all marines get bolt pistols for free. I think the main reason they force the grenades on us is to try and even out the combat squads, and prevent from people complaining about not being able to only give certain grenades to certain halves of the squad. The Librarian powers are...interesting. Could potentially be very deadly. I like the Veteran squads just because of how potentially nasty they can be. They took the regular marine Vets and put them on crack. At our store we have the promo copy, so I've been reading through it dilligently everytime I head up there. Edit: I do find the Incendiary Castellan missles for the Whirlwind a lot more useful.

I personally thought wow marines as they should be when I read the codex, yes you can't make a character uber hard but thats the way it should be. Every squad should have a veteran and every marine should have grenades. It saved me loads of points on my own army as I used to be paying 18pts per marine!

Until you're against some pesky Tau or Catachans or other Guard who are just laughing at you from your deep-strike and cover save vulnerablilities.
