Fantasy Moon: My Tuesday-Thursday schedule looks a lot like yours...the class marathon with the two hour break. I commute as well, and the break used to be unbearable, but I lucked out this year: my school built a coffeehouse with free laptop hookups. biggrin whee Needless to say, I will be spending that two hours wisely (i.e., on Gaia. biggrin ) If all else fails, I always found the library to be a nice, stress relieving place to curl up with a good book in between.
Yuka-San: sorry for the vent. sweatdrop You're right, there are a lot of really talented young people... sometimes it just seems like the talentless, self-absorbed ones are the ones who end up stealing all the attention. (I am one of those people you mentioned who is really shy about postingtheir writing on the web.) The forums are fun and worthwhile to check out, but be wary of all the evil mean folks that like to hang out there...

I was very shy about it for a while too... but then the urge for feed-back and for an opinion about my writing became more important then my shyness. I mean...I'd like to be a journalist or a writer one day, so it was really important for me to find out if I actually had talent. In all honesty I still don't know, but trying to improve is already a good thing for me. And if you're really shy, you should try letting your stories be read by the people you trust. That always helps.

I've been getting better about it lately... I showed a few of my favorites to my close friends. I took some classes, too, where everybody swaps stories and we met three times a week to give eachother feedback. I've started to appreciate it even when the feedback is negative--it still feels good, doesn't it? I must be because you learn from it.

I actually still have to build up the courage to let my friends read my stories... I think it's easier for strangers to give their opinion. But your right, even negative feedback feels good sometimes.

I've started to appreciate it even when the feedback is negative--it still feels good, doesn't it? I must be because you learn from it. I used to be completely terrified to show anyone anything that I had written or drawn. I first started trusting my closest friends, and after they gave me a lot of encouragement, I started branching out. The internet is scary because people who view your work have no emotional investment in you, so they'll be really brutally honest, which can be good or bad. I've felt that it's really important, though, to be able to get a judgement of where my abilities stand on a worldwide level, and recieving praise from complete strangers can feel so great! (Not that that's why I do what I do, of course. I'm just saying how wonderful it feels to get that reassurrance that I'm not wasting my life with my career choice.)

heehee--sounds like I'm just like you, jojo. I figure eventually I'll get to the point where I won't be afraid to post things on the net--but I think I'm still working toward that. One of my other fears about the internet, too, is people stealing my ideas...not that I'm even sure I have any good ones.
But I think you are right about needing to reaffirm the chosen career path--that's why I liked the workshop class so much, I think. Those people never met you before and will probably never meet you again, so they gave candid opinions. I think it's probably a little more brutal than an internet forum, though, because they're telling you right to your face what sucks and what's good. And in the ones I've taken, the author is not allowed to speak in defense of their work until the very end. After all that, maybe I'd actually be ok in the writing forums...

I was looking through my jewelry box today (well at this point it would really be yesterday) and found some Disney jewelry that I'd forgotten about having. A couple of charm bracelets. One has tiny painted figurines of Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder. The other isn't gold, but I guess you'd call it gold-plated? It has charms of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto hanging on it. Can't wear either withouth a chain extender though since they're suitable to a child's small wrist. I'm going to start wearing my gold charm bracelet to school. I already lug all of my stuff in a Mickey backpack so it's fitting.

My record was thirteen at once. And it was completely unintentional. sweatdrop

It was a premonition to Kingdom Hearts, I tell you! The first day back to classes last week I had my backpack, a Mickey t-shirt, and my new Mickey sweatshirt (that Mom is always taking for herself because it is so warm). My classmate said, "You really like Mickey Mouse, don't you?" whee You gotta love the Mouse though! I find myself watching House of Mouse more these days.

I do not wear a lot of Disney. I rarely wear my Nightmare Before Christmas shirts (I consider them a part of my collection), but I used to have handmade bracelets (most of which broke or are now too small for me) with the names of my favorite characters from whatever movie.
