I got a problem. And it could suck big time for me in the long run....

With my new job, I am using my hands and wrists writing stuff and entering numbers into a computer 8+ hours a day and then going home to play whatever game until I go to bed... in short, I've been spending at least 12 hours a day on a computer.

To top it off, I had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis growing up and it's something that you never outgrow except for the 'juvenile' part.

Now the weather has been very muggy and humid.

Now combine all those togther, and I get:

Very sore, stiff fingers, hands and wrists. It get difficult to even use a PS controller (I haven't tried xbox but I suspect that the results will be the same)

If nothing is done, I could get carpal tunnel, (if I don't have the early stages of it already, I'll have to consult a doctor) and both of my parents have arthritis and carpal tunnel as well as several family members.... (my genes suck >.< )

I've tried streching exersices only to cuase my joints to make loud "POP" noises that sometimes are painful, and other times, someone else winces in sympathy (though I may not feel a thing). I've tried massaging them but I need to use one hand to massage the other so one gets better while the other gets worse. Not to mention that I've dislocated my right wrist becuase I was going at it too hard and that hurt like a b***h.

So I've consulted several sources and plan to stop by walgreens to pick up a few items... like vitamin E and cod liver oil (to strengthen and lubercate my joints) ... I just gotta remember to take them. And probally invest in a tennis elbow brace (it's just a stipe that goes on the forearm that puts pressure on the muscle and it works wonders)... keep that ergonomic beanbag that I borrowed from a friend of mine that I'm using as a rest for my right hand (my left goes without).

At this point, they are stiff and tender and it's only going to get worse.

Anyone have more ideas on what I could do?

Best I can suggest is wrist braces, which you pick up at Walgreens. My left arm is partially paralyzed from a stroke I had when I was 16. Whenever it starts to get tired (Im just now starting to feel the basics of pain after 5 years) I would put on hte brace to support it. I also have one for my right wrist which gets tired and sore from doing most of the typing. Have you tried maybe having a friend massage them for you? That might work too.

Psycho, if you'd like I can try some healing from here...it might work, but it might not... sweatdrop

Updates:
I got the WSP listing posted, no its not open yet, but we're getting there. Slowly but surely. Don't forget to register for classes in the Revival thread.

I deleted a lot of the threads that had had no posts for 2 weeks, feel free to re-create them if you had one of the ones deleted, but please understand that when they get old and go without any interest for too long they'll be deleted.

Expect more updates by tomorrow. They'll all be listed in the Triquetra, so don't forget to check that out when the title gets changed!

I'm at a loss for your problem besides maybe ice or heat, Pyscho. I know heat helps when the arthritis in my jaw flares. (which, forutnately, is very rarely) It also helps with myhip, but my hip is just plain f^cked up. (I started both physical therapy and a new job this week...)

I highly recommend the wrist braces as well. I have tendonitis in my right wrist. Any time it starts to get aggravated, I wear the brace. It does help. Frankly, I would recommend going to see a physical therapist, Psychomaze. A therapist would have the best info at his/her disposal. If you want to try supplements, then try chondrotin (sp?) sulfate. It helps with joints and the like. When I was working at the animal hospital, we would prescribe it to dogs who had joint problems, arthritis, and/or Lyme disease. The difference after a few weeks was amazing. I know it is commercially available. Good luck.

Indeed, its not fun. Lots of heat on my hip every night has been helping, as has the fact that I take 4 Aleve every morning. I also take Tylenol as nessecary throughout the day.

Doing good... never realized that I had a big opinion about vampires, but I posted a nice summary in one of the threads.

Hi guys! I have been playing Maple Story like crazy. It is just so cool! There are so many other people playing and the graphics are sooo pretty! I am on the Bera server and doing several quests. I like quests and stuff, they are fun. Let me know if any of you sign up or play on Bera, I will friend you. *smile*

Psychomaze, make sure a doctor looks at your wrists, just to see if it is arthritis or the muscles or whatever. Wrist braces shouldn't hurt, but a doctor's input is always good too.

There are new emoticons!! rofl pirate talk2hand Way cool dude! cool

I don't think much of the slots since I don't like any of the stuff there. I guess its a good thing though since I am still trying to save for fairy wings. 3nodding

Anyone watching the celebrity dance competition? I just love it! The dude from Seinfield is such a good dancer! He is hot! *falls over*

Psychomaze : I recommend that you do the following :

1) Look for an ergonomic keyboard that lets you type with your wrists straight

2) Get the Gel wrist-rests from a good computer store

3) Lay off the gaming for a while ! ( sacrilege !! eek )

uhhhh. I think the pic in your sig goes against gaias size rules and quite a few people I know have had their sigs disabled lately for that sort of thing. Might want to double check/possibly fix it.
