Please wait...Calliope whispered to both of them and she became visible particles in the air, swirling around the two ponies before zipping over to the door, and disappearing through the cracks and crevasses. Silence reigned for a moment and then a soft grinding then, THUNK! sound as the three locks disengaged. More silence....and even more silence followed.

H-How did you... Rainbow Dash's jaw dropped, and she and Applejack both began to gain a grudging respect for their new ally.
C'mon, Rainbow! We don't have all day! Applejack shouted as she ran inside and grabbed the case containing the Elements of Harmony. With a quick check, they confirmed that the Elements were there, then took off running towards the tunnel that they had used to come in.
I think that those are Princess Luna's quarters, up ahead... Pennington whispered. Shadow, we have no idea what kind of horrors that the miasma has subjected the Princess to, nor what kind of traps may be inside... You might want to stand back. Without waiting for a response, he walked to the door, and his horn began to glow. The energy moved up and away from his body, eventually solidifying into a set of lock picks, with which he instantly set to work.

Shadow Bloom did as she was instructed but she didn't do nothing. Tapping into her own talent she sent it tentatively into the room, seeking out the emotional beacon that was the Princess Luna.
Ruby shifted from one foot to the other glancing at her companions. She didn't say anything and finally settled down, tucking her legs under her body.Calliope followed after her partners after closing down the vault.

She was running into a wall, which was odd, she'd never run into something that stopped her from connecting with a functioning mind. She frowned and refocused on Pennington. Unease crawled up her spine and she glanced over her shoulder, busying herself with making sure that no-pony was coming their way.

And... I've got it! Pennington's lock picking set melted away into a mist of energy that floated back into his horn. Princess Luna! We're here to- Pennington was cut of as a storm of blue mist raged out of the room. In less than a second, the miasma had lifted him up into the air and was beginning to feed off of him. The mist sunk into his body through his coat, leaving no marks. His eyes turned back and he let out a gut-wrenching scream.
Princess Luna could only watch with horror at what was happening, having been bound, gagged, and having had an inhibitor ring placed over her horn. She's not possessing him... She's draining him! I knew that she was weak, but consuming complete strangers?

Ruby's head jerked up and she stiffened.Calliope stopped following Applejack and Rainbow Dash and immediately altered her course. Shadow gasped at the sudden attack. It happened so fast, she'd barely had time to process what had happened before Pennington started screaming. Movement caught her attention and she could see Luna inside, completely helpless. She knew the feeling. It took effort but she managed to shake herself out of her shock and rush into the room, past the ululating pony and to the princess. Using her magic, she untied the bonds and pulled the ring off her horn, storing it in her saddlebag to deal with later. Eyes wide, she turned back towards Pennington, "I don't know what to do!" She exclaimed. Just as the words left her mouth, Calliope slammed into Pennington--though slammed wasn't quite the right term for it, for he did not go skidding down hall from the blow but her landing seemed so heavy, the vapor form that she had adopted coating Pennington's struggling form. And then, just like Miasma, she sank into his skin, turning the pony's body into a battlefield; Miasma trying to feed on Pennington, Calliope doing her level best to force her out and heal the damage the other entity had wrought. Ruby was by the door again, looking back at her companions, "That....didn't sound good. Not at all." Her voice trembled.

Luna immediately jumped into action, using her magic to pull the miasma away from Pennington's body. She didn't know what the other force aiding her was, but she gladly accepted the help. After struggling for about thirty seconds, their combined efforts finally released Pennington, who slumped to the ground in a heap. He needs medical help! Luna shouted, running to the slumped body on the floor, watching the miasma skitter away into the castle's ventilation system. Her time will come later, but this pony needs every hoof, hand, or claw that we can get to help him!
The result of the raging energies that had been coursing through his body only moments before, Pennington's body was bruised and battered, bleeding in several places. His horn had been scorched at its point and had turned black at the tip. To everypony's shock, he was still awake. I... I've had worse... He whispered. Just... Get me to Lily...
Callalily Curl? Luna was awestruck, suspecting that the pony had grown delirious. This is hardly the time to have your mane done! She gently pushed him back down to the ground with her magic as he tried to stand up again.
She's my... confidant... he whispered. She's helped me... When I was... hurt... before... His sides heaved as the pain in his body grew in intensity.
When Eclipse heard the scream, his blood ran cold. She... She's feeding... He whispered. What have I led you all into?
That sounded like Pennington! Twilight shouted, racing towards the door. I was the one who suggested that we ask him to come!
Don't! Eclipse shouted, panic driving him out of the bed where he had been laying to stop her from opening the door. There's no way that you could get there in time! She'll consume you, as well!
C-Consume? Twilight's eyes began to water. Y-you mean.. He's...
We can't be sure. Eclipse whispered. I- I'm so sorry, Twilight. I never should have led you all in here...

Ruby glared up at Eclipse then promptly proceeded to bite his tail...again, "Save the pity party!" She snapped when she'd released him, "Think. What do we do?""That looked kind of like..." Shadow's voice drifted off and she gasped, staring at Pennington, he had a faint blue glowing nimbus about his body, as they watched, it grew brighter. Before their eyes, bruises began to fade, cuts sealed themselves closed and ever so slowly, the scorch began to disappear from his horn. Within Pennington, Calliope worked quickly. The Miasma had done a number on his body but it could have been far worse. From the inside out, she repaired and patched and mended until she sensed no vital injuries she needed to attend to. Pennington would feel a soothing sensation, as if there were a cool breeze inside of his battered body. He might also be a bit sore as his body finished up what she had started but he'd be able to function well enough. Her job complete she slowly left Pennington's body.
Freed from her patient, she looked about her. Instead of becoming solid, she stayed insubstantial, getting her bearings. The small cloud that was her, hovered close to the ground so she had to look up at everyone. Pennington was beside her and before them stood a small pony, her hide and mane completely black and a taller dark pony. Shadow Bloom. Luna. Calliope was tired but not exhausted but it made her a bit slow. A little rest, perhaps merging with an element and she would be good as new. "Calliope?" Shadow asked tentatively of the shimmery cloud on the ground. Yes... "Are you alright? Are you able to become solid again?" Water. I need a water source. A fountain? Shadow Bloom looked to the princess, "Is there a fountain nearby? My friend, she says she needs water."

Water? Well, yes! This way, follow me! Luna hurried back into her room, leading them into her private bathroom and turning on the faucet to the bathtub.
Pennington, who was still recovering and trying to make sense of the situation, was thrown into even more shock at finding himself standing in Luna's private quarters.Wow... Just to be here is a pivilege most ponies don't experience in a lifetime. Just wait until the boys back at the Republic hear about this...
Ouch! Eclipse grabbed his tail out of Ruby's mouth. Don't DO that! Look, if you two think that we can help, then we'll give it a shot. I can feel that the miasma's been severely diminished, so it might be safe to go out...
Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go! Twilight stormed out of the door, running down the hall as quickly as she could. If that MORON get himself killed, I'll never forgive him!

Shadow Bloom only spared Pennington a quick, questioning glance, more worried about Calliope than anything. Calliope slithered along the ground towards the sound of water and managed to get over the rim of the tub, sinking down into the pooling water at the bottom. She knew her form disappeared from view as she let herself be absorbed in the water element. Wind may be her favorite element to bond with but water was a superb way to recharge after a vigorous healing. Fire, too was another fantastic way, but water was cool and calming....something she needed right now. "Calliope?" Shadow asked before gasping as the water began to move....in a way water didn't move on it's own. It lifted out of the tub and formed into a vaguely equine form until a version of Calliope stood in the bath tub....made completely out of water. Calliope bowed her head, Thank you, Princess. Ruby hurried after the pony, "Which moron specifically are we talking about?" Ruby asked as she drew up even with Twilight.

My stupid EX-BOYFRIEND! Twilight shouted as she turned around another corner. That idiotic, self-absorbed, condescending, know-it-all! As she turned the last corner into Luna's room, she stopped short at seeing Pennington, alive and well, standing in the middle of the room.
Twilight! I'm glad to see you're alright! I was worried that the miasma might have gotten to you- He was cut off as Twilight's hoof slammed into his face, knocking him to the ground.
I thought you were DEAD!
Pennington messaged his jaw, opening it widely before speaking again. OW! Gee, Twilight... Didn't know you cared so much. His tone rapidly shifted from releif to sarcasm.
Yeah, well, I should have known I'd find you in Luna's bedroom... Twilight muttered. You always DID like her more than the ponies right in front of you...
Calliope! Eclipse ignored the arguing couple and ran in to the bathroom where Calliope was recovering. What on earth happened to- He was cut off as a blast of energy threw him against the wall, and pressure began to constrict around his throat. Ack! Gaah!
Discord! I knew that you were behind this! Where is my sister? Luna demanded, quickly advancing on the draconequus. Where is Celestia??

With the commotion outside, Calliope's form suddenly dissolved, water collapsing on itself until it splashed down into the tub. The spigot turned off on it's own and all that remained was Twilight's ire in the other room. Shadow Bloom hurried into the other room and came out just in time to see Pennington hit the ground. She gasped but Twilight wasn't done yet and soon they were going at it. Shadow frowned and opened her senses, blinking in surprise at what she found. Unease unfurled in her belly and she shut it down, clearing her throat to clear the sudden lump that had formed there. CORDIE! Release your brother this instant! Calliope's voice cracked like a whip following Luna's demand.

N-NOT... Discord!!! Eclipse gasped, grabbing at his throat. Not... Discord...
Yeah, right! Your little minion there didn't finish me off, so you came to do it yourself! Luna growled. You should have at leasted shapeshifted before you came walking in here, draconequus...
Meanwhile, Pennington had used his magic to make a domed shield, which was quickly beginning to crack under Twilight's attack. Twi... Don't make me go one the offensive!
Oh, so you're suddenly a stronger fighter than me, too! Twilight rolled her eyes as she slowed her attack to a stop. Look, okay? I thought that the two of us could restrain ourselves in an effort to save the princess, but apparently, I was wrong. We'll resolve this later, alright?
Fine by me... Pennington lowered his shield, but was instantly knocked back to the floor as Twilight's hoof came crashing down on the crown of his head. OW! I thought that we were going to try to restrain ourselves!
Pressure release. I can stay calm, now... Twilight rolled her eyes again, and turned to walk into the bathroom with the others.
