She nodded, "Yes, I understand. Sometimes I wish the healer would have let me die. Then I wouldn't have had so much to deal with. But at the same time I can't help but think of all I've been through and how I've changed. Events have molded me into who I am today. And I think of all the people whose feelings I experience. Some of them I was actually able to help. I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world. But as an empath my own pain is magnified and tears even deeper." She knew Saradin would understand what she meant. She had been rejected so many times throughout her long life, it felt right to be here now. And to be accepted as she was.

"I know what you mean. My very birth was the cause of several murders, and I lived in pain for so long. But now looking back, I can't think to change a thing. I did a lot of good during my troubles, and I've finaly gotten what I was looking for all that time. We can't want to change what happened without giving up what we've become because of it. I even appreciate the worst moments now, my regrets are almost gone."

"I wish mine were. I wish I hadn't waited so long to tell Nadai the truth. I wish that I hadn't lived for so long alone. The list goes on and on. But eventually I'll work through them all." She stopped. Then she remembered what he had menitoned earlier about her drinking. "I believe I could stop it. I usually don't drink that much. Only a glass of wine or so a day. It just becomes that time and the pain comes back. One of these days I will learn to live with the pain and not try to drown my sorrows in a bottle. Maybe it will finally sink in that while they seem to drown they really go beneath the surface and wait to spring back up at an unexpected moment. I've thought about letting go, but it feels so wrong. Like I'm insulting him and the love I told him I would always have for him."

"That's right, don't let go of the pain. It's why I haven't released mine completely. They stay as the memorial of all the mistakes I've made, and forgetting them would be like erasing them. I choose to accept them, every ache is still fresh, but that pain drives me forward to continue living rather than bog me down in doubts of myself." This was turning into a real uplifting moment for Saradin, he never thought he'd hear such optomistic words coming from his own mouth.

"I plan on holding on to the love, not the pain. I feel his love...I know it sounds weird. But his love keeps me going. I just want to be able to say his name without busting into tears. And tonight when Aura used my nickname, I just lost it. He was the only one who ever called me Niah. And after I got over the shock of hearing it again and the inevitable tear burst, it felt...good. I will never fully bury him. He has a piece of my heart. But so do many others. And I feel like maybe I can finally move on." SHe laughed as she heard what she was saying. "I'm sorry, that proabably made no sense."

"It makes perfect sense. We each have things that we hold onto that stay important." Saradin's fork tapped occasionaly against the empty plate he had as he listened and enjoyed sharing his thoughts with her. "Your nickname, my pain; they stand for the same things. They build who we are, memories are the most powerful tool of our minds. They bind us or we cling to them, either way they give us direction. Don't fear this anniversary, instead use it to honor his passing... Niah."

Nailah felt a sense of acceptance wash through her as her nickname passed through his lips. It felt...right. Just like Aura using it earlier had. "All we have are our memories. I know that as long as I think of him or remember some moment that we shared, he is still living through me as a result of it. His love strengthens me as does my friends' love now. All of it combines to keep me sane and pushing on to find out what other mysteries this world still holds for me. I know that my time is not spent and I intend to use it to the best of my ability. But enough about that. I'm actually curious how you are going to train me." She thought about the times she had been able to block out the feelings. Of course they had always found their way back in. She didn't mind feeling them, just not being able to control them. It was scary thinking about everything that could happen. She wanted to remedy the problem as soon as possible.

"Your training?" The tapping of his fork stopped suddenly and he set it down on the plate. This was a more serious and very real discussion of ability rather than whimsical or heartfelt. "To begin would be basic meditation practice, learning to block your own basic emotions through focus. From there its a matter of seperating your own emotions from outside ones, its like a muscle that you cant control until youve worked it out. Once you understand how to do that, I'll test you against the emotions pent up inside me." Saradin cleared himself from his chair and looked around him, his feast wasnt getting the proper attention. "That's the concept, now you should get some rest, I still have a large meal to make."

Nailah nodded, "Thank you once again Saradin, for everything. I really appreciate it. And I think I will take your advice. Good luck with your feast. I can't wait." She smiled. "Good night Saradin. I will see you later." She walked out of the kitchen and into her room. Smiling to herself at having rid herself of her large burden she climbed into her bed and fell asleep. For the first time in two thousand years she hadn't needed to get drunk on the second night of the anniversary.

Pouvez-vous l'entendre? ((Can you hear it?))

Kasis stirred, his arms and legs sore. They rubbed against the soft velvet carpet and lethargically rolled around in the great hall or where ever he was now. Oui... Gently opening his eyes he dug his face into the carpet a bit more, letting the soft material scratch his cheek and neck. Suddenly his body went limp and he lay on the floor his eyes afixed on something far and distant. The words, the damned words that were forbidden played in full stero in his head.

Même si je ne te void pas
Je peux retrouver ce que l'on cherche dans la nuit,
même se c'est très difficile
je danserai mon chemin avec les loups.

The melody of the voice that sang angelically soothed his mind and soul, even if he couldn't understand most of the words. Something about regaining what someone seeks, a difficult obstacle, and wolves. Kasis eyes focused on the wall now, his keen eyes following the intricate designs of the wall paper. He replayed the song over and over in his mind. The song was beautiful, and sometimes he would catch himself humming the tune when he was alone. The melody was magical to him.

Finally feeling able, he picked himself up and stretched his aching muscles and bones. Only doing a few brief stretches he fell back into a fluffy couch. Arms outstretched on the back of the furniture he stretched his back as he mind started to take off with memories again. They zoomed off and his mind started to wonder how his village was doing. He sat there a moment longer and started to hum the tune of his soul.

It was late and everything in the kitchen was as ready as it could be for now. No more preparations to be made until just before the planned feast. Saradin finaly had free time to spare. Taking the typical course of action, he wandered away from his self appointed duties and into the various sectors of the manor, traveling aimlessly down the corridors.

Aura was once again in the library, she had been for several hours now. She pulled out her journal from the shelf and walked over the desk she used most. Withdrawing a small key from seemingly nowhere she unlocked the desk’s drawer. From the drawer she pulled out a smaller red leather bound book, one that almost matched her journal though it didn’t look as worn. She picked up the feather she had used the previous day, reusing it to spare Eclipse another feather. Aura inked the tip of the home made quill and opened the smaller book, as well as her journal, she flipped through the journal’s pages to her stopping point, where she filled in the rest of what needed to be told there.

Her attention then turned to the list that was in the smaller book. A list that was forty-two lines long was present across several of the pages. And of those forty-two, thirty four were crossed out already, in different places along the list, leaving only eight still clearly seen in crisp hieroglyphs. Running a finger down the list, she stopped at a line far down and pressed the quill to the paper, running a dark line through that one as well. Now only seven of forty-two list items remained unscratched.

She sighed at the list. "Pretty good for over five thousand years."

The tune started to grow old and he didn't want to lose it's magical effect on him so he quieted down. He felt groggy again and couldn't exactly wake up. Kasis' body fell to the floor again, and in a strange spectacle, used his shoulders to start making his way into the correct corridor that led toward the courtyard again. On the way he accidently slammed into a door and fell inside. He winced at the pain and looked in. Books and lots of them. He scanned the room again and saw Aura at a desk.

"Oh, hello Lady Aura."

Aura looked up from both books and blinked a few times, still registering who exactly it was. She then smiled and laughed slightly. "Evening Kasis...falling through doorways again I see. What are you doing up at this hour?"

"Hour? Is it late? Early?" Still feeling very lathargic he rolled into the room and jumped up in front of the desk and sat down across from Aura.

"I've lost track of time here. I sleep for long amounts of time and have yet to go outside today. I was just going to go out when i accidently ran into this place." Kasis looked around the room and stared at the multitude of books.

"Wow, Lady Aura. Are these all yours?"
