Meh, mates are confusing. I dont get online relations. What is really the purpose, you feel love for like, a few seconds, but then the person could just easily find a rl bf, and then what would be the point? If I ever get any mate, I want to actually be their mate. Lately I have had a few people want me to be their mates, not their rl, online. Anyone who is in my position is just going to get hurt from all this. They say they are just showing that they care, but they can just immediately stop and go to better things. These really hurt us ><;

I just dont like it >_<; If Im mated with someone, then its going to have to end up being a rl mating

Online relationships are hard. But, I love my mate very much and it's totally worth the wait. Main problem is not being able to touch the other person. But, we call and he gets on his webcam, so there's still interaction. I'm trying to get into a college near my mate and I plan to visit him in July for our one year anniversary.
However, if an online relationship works or not depends on the people involved. I've been hurt before, but learned. Just gotta be careful. Still, online works better for me. I tend to be socially awkward and horribly shy irl, and being such have failed several times at trying to get guys to notice me. I'm more comfortable online. ^_^ Whatever works, right?

See, now, that is one thing I really don't care about the deal with "mates" as one would put it. Far too many people treat being online as one big game, none of it is serious to them and since that is how they see it they often assume that everyone else is just playing along as well.
But unless someone is involved in what is clearly an RP, for most it is not a game. They are putting their real thoughts and feelings into what they post online. We all seek companionship, whether it is something as simple as a friend or something deeper.
I have seen it happen far too many times, people jumping into a relationship, online or IRL life, far too quickly. It is just that, an online relationship can feel a lot safer and so you see people moving far too quickly often.
The most common thing I see happen is two people that happen to like each other and enjoy yiffing together declare themselves mates. And so that term has become somewhat hallow to me when referencing it to the general public. Far as I see it, a mate in the furry community is simply someone you yiff with regularly but don't have any sort of true romantic relationship.
On a personal level, that work has far much more meaning when I use it. When I call Kuro my mate, it is all encompassing for what he means to me. My lover, my boyfriend, my best friend, my companion, my partner in life and the one I wish to spend the rest of my life with. Our relationship may have started online and is mostly an online one, but he is still my RL boyfriend and has always felt so long before we ever met each other IRL.
Whether online or in real life, you face some of the same risks trying to get involved with someone. Such as realizing you don't really love them and it was just an infatuation. Or perhaps you find out they are cheating on you or break up with you because they either realize themselves it isn't working or found someone else. Could be that for them it was all just some game that they thought you were in on, but never really cared for you in that way. Off or on the net, you are going to face those issues. The only real problem about dating online is that is it far easier for someone to lie about who they really are.
Online relationships do work, I have been with my mate for over three years now and I even know several couples that have not just found a way to live together but have gotten married. The key to all this is being able to move the online relationship to the real world, meaning that both need to have the maturity and foresight to go through with it. First things first is to actually spend time getting to know the person you want to have a relationship, see if you click before declaring each other mates. You know, find out if you truly love this person romantically rather than being attracted to them and enjoy having them as a yiff partner.

You know the feeling you got on christmas, where you couldn't sleep, because you knew tomarrow was going to be great? I guess thats what happened last night. I whent to sleep at eleven eleven, and woke up at four thirty. Tossed and turned, and fineally got up at six. Waiting waiting waiting. Thats all i've been doing for the few hourswhile wainting to go get Goliath. When mom goes to get breakfest, we get to go.

Aww little escaping mantis babies. I remember when I was using an older cage one time and I forgot to stuff some tissue in the crack on the one corner, and a whole bunch got loose in my room when the eggcase hatched. xd

  My new baby! He used to be silver, but..uhm. now hes white with a yellow spine and random silver gaurd hairs. He's very friendly, but tuckers out easily. Also, his favorite thing is tennis shoe. surprised Goliath's story goes along these lines: Goliath was born at a breeder facility, and was not nuitered or decented. He came to us from a family who had tried to introduce him to they're other ferrets, but had failed, and he was unsocialized and agressive. He was given up at about a year old. The shelter decented and nuitered him, and he was soon adopted again, by a woman who kept him for a year, but got a job traveling so couldn't keep him. He's been at the shelter for a year, and now he lives with me! biggrin I love him. Kristen ( the girl who was keeping him at his house. He was depressed at the shelter) said he was perfect for me, and he even whent to work grooming me while we were there, which he'd never done to her. He's not nippy or anything! I'm in love. heart X3
