Welcome to the Domestic Hybrid Center (or the DHC). We are a lab dedicated to the research of mysterious animals we call 'Domestic Hybrids'. Many decades ago, remains were found of strange animals on an isolated island, and thanks to modern day science, we were able to clone copies of the once extinct creatures. After many years of study, we discovered them to have very unique abilities and used them as experimental weapons and tools. After 20 years of research, we then decided to breed the specimens into a smaller, gentler, more versatile breed we call the 'Basic Hybrids'. These are very domesticated versions of their wild ancestors and make wonderful pets.
There is also a breed in existence, a rarer, more exclusive, and much more dangerous breed, called the 'Super Breed'. These hybrids resemble their wild and extinct counter parts much more closely and are known to posses amazing strength and strange powers. This blood line is kept alive by a few breeders, who occasionally give us a few unwanted kittens here at the lab to sell to willing owners who are ready to take up the challenge.
The original hybrids that were resurrected were code-named 'Kontan'. This breed no longer exists to our knowledge at the lab. They are copies of their wild counterparts and were a struggle to keep under control even within the controlled conditions of the lab. Even if some specimens did still exist today, we would NEVER sell them to members of the general public.

We are also dedicated to the rich history of these strange animals and have a research facility based on discovering more about the beginnings, and eventual destruction of these magnificent animals. We named this research project after the ancient name of the island; Drachen Welt. The findings of the lab are open to the public and can be visited by clicking the link below.

The Super Breed is rare and resembles their ancient counterparts much more closely in behavior and abilities. Only a few creatures maintain the 'Super' Ranking blood line. A few breeders still pride themselves in offering the rare Super hybrids that still exist today, but if you do manage to find one, dont expect them to be cheap. Once used only by the military and police force, super hybrids poses heightened magical abilities that are encouraged and sought after in the breeding process, while basic hybrids are bred to be docile and nonmagical.








The Kontan Breed is believed to be an extinct blood-line.
These were among the very first hybrids to be re-generated from old remains, and they were powerful hybrids in their past lives. Only one or two are rumored to be in existence, but, here at the lab, we believe they are only a myth.

So, your hybrids are in love and are thinking about starting a family? Well, there are a few things you should know before taking the first steps:

arrow Hybrids can only breed TWICE in their life time, so please choose your mates wisely, and be sure you can commit to taking care of the young litter.

arrow You MUST be active in the guild before the lab will OK your breeding request. This does not mean PMs (although roleplaying over PMs, is more then ok).

arrow Infants will not grow unless you continue to roleplay and be active in the guild. Infants who's owners remain inactive for more then 1 months will die. Juvenile hybrids will die within 2 months of inactivity. The only time you will be safe from loosing your hybrid to inactivity is when it becomes an 'adult'. (There are exceptions to this rule.)

arrow All species can interbreed (including odd breed and Aviandra). The offspring will match the species of one parent. For example: if a Foxen and an Aviandra breed and have one offspring, it will either be a Foxen OR an Aviandra. Offspring will no longer be mixed breed.

arrow Breeding costs 5,000gold from each owner (A total of 10,000gold).

If you want to breed your hybrids, make sure there is a breeding spot available and that the service is being offered. If there is a spot open, please PM me the names of the two hybrids. Please include the user name of the other owner in your message as well.
Your hybrids will be listed in one of the 'Breeding Pens' and you will receive news of the outcome within a week or so (unless otherwise noted). The typical litter can range from 1 to 4 kittens. The baby(ies) will be both PMed to both owners and listed in the 'Breeding Pen'.

The kittens have 3 stages:
Infant: The kitten's colors will be very pale and undefined. At this vulnerable stage they will need lots of love and attention from their parents. The names of the kittens will not be certed at this stage and they will be co-owned by both parents (unless they are given up for adoption right after birth. See the section on adoption for more about this.) If one or both owners/parents fail to be active in the guild after 1 month after receiving your infant kitten, it will die.

Juvenile: After about 1 month, Your kitten's fur has now gained its true colors and its pale markings are now more vibrant and true. They are learning to care for themselves and are less vulnerable. Before your kitten(s) reach this stage, the owners/parents must decide to: Keep the kitten's co-owned, separate the kittens between parents/other users, or to give the kitten(s) up for adoption. Names must also be chosen for the kitten(s), unless they are given up for adoption. If one or both owners/parents fail to be active in the guild after 3 months after your infant kitten has grown into a juvenile, it will die.

Adult: In 3-5 months, juvenile hybrids will grow up into full fledged adult hybrids. Able to take care of themselves and form their own clans, they will no longer need their parents care.


Adoption

You may, at any time during your kittens development, choose to put some or all of your litter up for adoption. This is recommended for owners who feel they cannot meet the activity requirements to keep their kittens alive or want to share their kittens to hybrid pairs who can no longer breed or cannot breed to begin with. This is different then changing ownership with someone. Adoption will forfeit your hybrids parenting status over the young kitten(s). You can keep in contact with your offspring if you choose, but you will no longer be their rightful guardians.

Changing Ownership

At any time during your litter's development, you can give one or more kittens to a different user to Roleplay. It will then become that user's responsibility to make sure the kitten meets its roleplaying requirements, however, the biological parents of the kitten(s) will remain the rightful guardians of the kittens, not the hybrids of the new owner.

Accessories will be available in limited quantities and styles during special events and other times throughout the year. Most items will not be one time items and there is a good chance that popular items will be offered again in the future. Buy these up quickly because they are sure to go fast!

Items can be removed from your hybrid at any time for a cost of 500g. If an item effects the line art of a hybrid, it cannot be removed. You can remove accessories from a hybrid twice, so choose carefully. I can deny the removal of items if I am too busy or you have asked for too many item removals for too many pets at once. Please only remove an item if you must, or you really want that new event accessory.

Once the items are sold out, you cannot buy anymore. You can buy an accessory for any hybrid (as your ordering your first one, or add one to a an already existing hybrid).

General

Should I save my hybrid to my own server?: YES! PLEASE! I will not be responsible for keeping track of/hosting your hybrid for all of eternity. Please save it to your own computer and upload it to the web. I recommend using Photobucket if you are looking for an image server.

Do you do customs?: Sometimes I will have custom auctions/raffles. Otherwise...I occasionally accept bribes, but it really depends on how busy I am. Dont ask for Kontans, I most likely will shoot you down right on the spot.

Can I update my older hybrids to the new style?: No. Its way too much work for me. If you want to do this, I will treat it as a custom, which is a pretty expensive affair. If you want to update a hybrid that badly, you will have to try and get a custom spot.

When is the next flat sale?: You tell me, because I dont know. Flat sales are usually announced at lest a few days in advance, but I do pull the occasional surprise flat sale; a perfect example of why you should check out the shop frequently.

How do flat sales work?: Basically I go in order from the PMs I get. Ill ignore all requests in the thread until the very end. Ill also ignore orders that do not have a trade also sent within 5 minutes time from when I get the PM. I will not accept PMs that do not have a completed order form, so make SURE you fill it out completely before you send it. If you PM me saying "I want a hybrid!" I will delete it.

What is a Kontan Hybrid?: Well, they dont exist *shifty eyes*, but if they DID they would be very powerful hybrids. In the past, when the hybrids ruled themselves, they could easily run their own clan, as, it is next to impossible for a lone hybrid to defeat a Kontan ranked hybrid. Now, in the future when Hybrids are under the influence of humans, Kontans are used mostly for military purposes as, they are too strong to be owned by the average human. Some have been known to do it, however, if...the kontans existed.

What is an Aviandra?: It is a one of a kind Bird/Cat hybrid. Only one Aviandra for each bird type can exist. They are very mystical beings that prefer to be by themselves. They have highly developed magic and rival the status of a Super Breed hybrid. Aviandras, however, are not breed ranked, they just are what they are.

What is an Odd-Breed Hybrid?: Any hybrid that isnt a Tigon, Ticorn, Tinix, Zondou, Foxen or Aviandra. They can be anything. Most are cat based, but they do not have to be.

I have an older hybrid that I used to Rp as basic even though it was a super/kontan, what should I do now?: The hybrid can take any status you want, but once it takes that status, it is permanent. It can take different statuses depending on the era it is in too (IE, you have a super hybrid you rp as basic in the future and super in the past.) Hybrids will no longer be able to 'evolve' in the future or past. The 'levels' of hybrids have now become 'breeds', thus why they cannot change from basic to super anymore while in an rp.

I have an old hybrid I REALLY wanted to evolve, can I evolve it now?: No. I am sorry you cannot. The system has changed from the way it used to be, and it doesnt allow hybrids to evolve anymore.




Ordering/Owning Hybrids

How many hybrids can you own?: There is currently a 7 hybrid limit. Once you own 7 hybrids, you can no longer buy hybrids from flat sales or certain events that bar owners with more then a certain number of hybrids. Typically, however, if you own 7 or more hybrids, you can still get hybrids from auctions, raffles and bribes.

When do I send my trade when buying a hybrid from a flat sale?: Send it with your order. It will not be accepted until your hybrid is done and sent to you. This way, I don't have to wait for you to send your trade to send you your hybrid, and if there is any problems (i.e: you change your mind, the hybrids are sold out, etc), you will get your trade money back right away.

Can I buy hybrids for other people?: Of course! Make sure you include what user you want to send it to in your order, or their may be a fee to change the user name after it is sent to you. Buying hybrids from flat sales for people who have over 7 hybrids is STRONGLY discouraged and may not be allowed in some cases.

Can I give one of my old hybrids to someone else?: Sure. I charge 750gold for user name changes, however. Any other change you wish to make to a hybrid (removing companions, accessories, etc) will also cost extra and will count against your removal limits.

Is roleplaying required for these pets?/Will I loose my pets if I dont rp them?:No and no. You can rp these pets if you want to in the DHC Roleplay Guild or in PMs, or you can just keep them as signature/journal pets and enjoy the images. You will not loose your pets if you do not rp them, but there are many benefits to rping, such as being able to breed your hybrids. SOME hybrids ARE roleplay required, such as: Special event hybrids that have a Roleplaying condition and infant/juvenile hybrids that you get from breeding. Basically, Rping your hybrid isnt required unless otherwise noted.



Companions

Can you Roleplay companions?: Yes. They can be roleplayed alongside your hybrid or as their own characters in the Rp Guild or over PMs

Can a hybrid have more then one companion?: No. If you want your hybrid to switch companions, it will cost 1000gold in addition to the price of the new companion you wish to purchase. You can only remove a companion twice.

I really want a companion, but I dont have a hybrid, what do I do?: Typically, companions will not be certed without a hybrid counterpart, this may change in the future, however.

I want a companion that isnt available right now, what do I do?: Wait until it becomes available. If it is a featured companion that is no longer offered, it may be a long time until it comes around again. In certain cases I will accept companion bribes, but dont flood me with them, or I will no longer offer it.

I have a great idea for a featured companion!: Yay! I love to hear you ideas. Post them in the shop thread.


Breeding

Can I breed two of my own hybrids?: Yes, if you roleplay them as a couple. This is discouraged, however, but you will usually not be turned away for breeding two of your own hybrids if you are an active rper in the guild, roleplay your two hybrids as a couple and do not already own a lot of hybrids (unless you plan on giving the kittens to different owners to rp or put them up for adoption.)

I roleplay in PMs, but not at the guild. Can I still breed my hybrid with another?: No. You must be regularly active in the guild before I will let you breed your hybrids.

Can I pick the appearance/gender of my kittens?: No, the gender is random and the appearance is usually loosely based on the parents. I may accept custom breeding orders, but it would be very expensive.

I have met all requirements and time limits for my kittens and they still havent grown, what should I do?: PM me and tell me. I probably forgot to update them or I did and saved them incorrectly.



Accessories

Why aren't accessories offered all the time like they used to be?: It was too hard for me to keep up with everyones requests and draw out every item for every species, so I changed the system to make it easier for myself.

I want to change the collars my hybrid has, can I?: Yes. It costs 500gold to remove items you no longer want on your hybrid in addition to the cost of the new item you want. (Items that have changed the line art of your hybrid CANNOT be removed. Unremovable items are noted as such.) This can only be done twice, so be mindful of what you choose to equip your hybrid with.
