"No, you wouldn't have," Tokaki replied calmly as he glanced towards Tenkou, his eyes narrowing suspiciously before he glanced around again in an attempt to find the earring and if it was out of his line of sight...then at least sense it...

This was somewhat peculiar, for the earring itself would have been normal to any other being apart from the warrios of Byakko. It emanated with his power and seemed to coax the warrior towards it in times of need...but he could neither hear, nor see it as though it had either been destroyed or hidden by other deital means.

"Hmmm," he murmured, placing his hands on his hips as he released a sigh, "What a way to go, eh Tatara?" he mused and shook his head sadly, "Falling at the last hurdle." He snorted at this and then quirked a brow. Now why on earth had he said that? He barely even knew the warrior!

Nakago
Nakago Turned the earring in his hand, curious...trying to analyze it, deduce its importance. And this was a good distraction, as he was not ready to leave the temple just yet. Even the arrival of a farmiliar energy...another Byakko, didn't bring him out. He did however, having returned his barriers to their standing positions, and brought the seals back to their active state, put a bit of pressure over the palace, so as to keep the invadetrs use of power to a minimum. He wasn't focusing on him...but put enough to make a point.::

::Unmoving...and strong, as if he had not been affected by the interaction with Byakko, he called out::

"Tomo! Get in here...and Bring Shin with you..."

::Tomo entered and was immediately beside the shogun. He pulled Shin out of his sleeve and held it in the palm of his partially open hand, as if affirming his and his clam shell's presence.::

Yes, Nakago-sama?

::The boy was young, a bit brash...probably very compulsive, one who Tenkou figured he wouldn't have to give great explaination or detail, if he offered the solution so quickly. He raised an eyebroy ever so slightly at the lads comment, but then resumed feigned ingorance::

"Well...no matter...I don't know EVERY servant in the palace..."

::He took another step closer, stepping out of the shadows and into the light, his long robe and hair flowing, a sparkle from his crest...he presumed the boy would mistake him for royalty, and also that he would assume that the asumption was he was a palace servant. The false earring was cupped in his hand, currently hidden by the arm of his robe and masqued by his false power, emulating that of Nakago's own, as Tenkous connection was greatest to him, thus the masquing would be overlooked withing the grounds of the palace, because anyone with a sense about him could feel the Shogun's prescence. It was ready for showing, so very soon...and then, the fun could begin.::

"What...prey tell...are you looking for...and on who's orders?"

::Nakago held the earring out in front of him, looking at it for a moment at a slight distance with one of the temple lamps making light behind it. Tenkou was up to something...and not knowing what that was, was disturbing. However...it did attract the attentions ot the Byakko rather quickly, as their little teleporter had apparently already returned. whether he was aware that he was again inside Nakago's "shell" of influence or not, he did not know..but before he interacted again with them, he wanted more information::

"I want you to analyze this earring, anyhting you can extract form it...concerning it...its former owner...what importance it serves..."

::He hesitated here, knwng it had some importance...though lost on him::

"...And then return it to me."

::He lowered his hand now, cupping the earring and extending his hand to Tomo's, letting it fall into his hand next to shin::

"But first...I want to see what you were able to find from the Byakko...before their return trip."

[***The Secret of the Earring***]

"I search for an earring dropped by the Byakko seishi Tatara, I must find it with extreme urgency for he is incredibly ill and without the powers imbued within it he will surely fall. I act of my own accord in these matters and am directed by no other," Tokaki replied coolly as he observed the man again, he had not stopped looking for the earring and was playing over what had occured previously in his mind.

...This man, something didn't quite add up, if he knew anything about these encounters he was half expecting him to bring the jewel out and present it to him, it was a classic 'bad-guy' move...and no doubt he would do it on the instructions of blondie.

"Not that that would matter to you I suppose," He added in a clear, silken tone.

Tatara flinched at the continual pain pulsing through his limbs, each renewed release of energy was become worse and virtually unbareable. Whatever had transgressed within Kutou was something he did not regret but he certainly failed to understand it. He sighed deeply however and turned his gaze towards the platinum statue of the large tiger, it was a comfort despite all that was occuring.

"Ah Byakko you are wise...but why this, what have I done?" He murmured heavily, his shoulder's slumping slightly in response to an unseen weight...

Perhaps, somewhere within his past something had occured, something that caused him to be subject to such illness however few would know of it and even he remained unaware of its exact cause. What he was certain of, was that the earring aided him in combatting and removing the pain - no doubt however that Shin would uncover the details of the illnesses however...

::Tenkou was even a bit suprised that he had come out so forwardly and blatantly, directly admitting his intentions. This manner, and the choice of words, led Tenkou to revise his own strategy on the matter...a bit, which would add to the "illusion" he was creating with his false earring, and the plans it held in store.::

"Oh, but it does matter little one..."

::He said stepping closer::

"For you see..I have just returned to Kutou, and the Shogun found the earring you speak of. Unable to ascertain its full potential...it is my duty...to do so."

::He decided to reveal it now, his forgery, crafted and ready...with the addition of three purple orbs of energy, smaller than the earring itself, orbiting it for effect, the earring levitating off his hand as he had done with the real thing::

"Interesting...Nakago had made it clear that the Byakko were all gone from Kutou...how is then you have returned so quickly?"

::He closed his eyes as if meditating, though he already knew, one of this boys skills, was teleportations, thats all he needed for now::

"Ah...a teleporter...How rash of you however...to think the Shogun will let you leave here this time..."

Tokaki narrowed his eyes at the earring, his assumptions had been correct and the man HAD revealed that earring - it was far to quick for his liking and after a few moments a cruel smile crept up onto his lips. So they held the earring in their custody, that confirmed that it was unlikely to be returned, not only that but this man appeared to be closely related to the shogun in some way.

Perfect.

"Well," Tokaki murmured calmly as he leant against the railings, the smile still remaining on his lips, "If the seishi dies then the earring is destroyed and you will have nothing." Tokaki purred and as he did the symbol began to creep onto his left cheek again, however it didn't glow at present but indicated that he was ready if necessary, to challenge the barriers around him and leave.

"Not only that, but how will your seishi feel at the loss?" He enquired softly - he wasn't blind, he had seen the doe-eyed gaze of Tatara towards him, so it was time to exploit - hell, if Tatara did pop his clogs then Nakago's failure to return the earring would be the reason behind it!

::'Too confident...a bluff...it has to be.' Tenkou reasoned to himself.::

"I believe this means more to you than you are letting on...else you would not have returned so quickly to retrieve it."

::Breakinging into a sinister, evil laughter than only Tenkou can pull off::

"So in destroying the earring...we will kill a Byakko seishi? How delightful! Afte the stunt you Byakko pulled...taking the life of one of your seishi...regaurdless of the fact that you have already summoned Byakko, will be a reasonable restitution."

::The earring, still floatng above his hand, extended towards the boy, but out of range and still protected, his laughter abating::

"So...you seem to be knowledgeable enough on the subjsect at hand...what else can, and will you tell me?"

::He still had to think of a reasonable way for him to end up with his false earring....but for now...stalling, to test the resolve, see how much it was really worth to him::

::He clutched his fingers closer to the earring, and the purple energies began to move faster around it and move closer to it, as Tenkou chuckled that spine chilling chuckle again::

Tokaki closed his eyes briefly as he regained his composure and then shook his head, he had the feeling that insane mage would have been a more appropriate person for this job but she had otherwise vanished from existance and so he was left alone, it was a pity really but he could think for himself, it wasn't that difficult and with his already growing suspicion he could play things safe - right?

"I have told you everything I know," Tokaki murmured at last, lifting a hand to place his fingertips against his cheek and the symbol upon it. "If the earring is not returned the seishi will die...similarly if it is destroyed, the seishi will fall." He added darkly and then he smirked, Tenkou may have had a laugh that cut through him but he had plans of his own.

"But then again, is it REALLY worth the risk to turn your own seishi against you by killing the Byakko seishi in question?" He enquired coolly and raised a brow as he levelled his gaze towards Tenkou once more in question.

((True. Providing they havent already surrended and ran off... which would explain their lack of appearance, save a couple. >.>;; ))

Nuriko blinked and let out a sigh, such a serious conversation about the sake of their beloved Emperor and all she can think about was her stomach. Go figure.

"Hai.. hai... somehow I don't think we're going to find everything there, but no point in letting you starve, ne Tama-kins?"

He glanced back at the cowering warrior still on the ground and sweatdropped.

"Eh heh. Come on Tama! You must know lots of good places to eat around here ne?"

Miaka smiled and jumped for joy, finally she was able to eat something. She hadn't really been thinking of it in the first place, but when everyone distracted her from Yui, her mind wandered back to it.

Her legs felt alittle unstable, from not eating in awhile so she crouched behind a rock as Nuriko was distracted talking to Tamahome and then she quietly and siftly crept closer and closer towards him and then completely lunged herself towards Nuriko clinging to his back. She positioned herself more comfortably and then pointed forward.

"To the food places!" she shouted

|ooc: Just to issue a reminder as it's been a while. *Chuckles* |

[***Subaru***]

Subaru had often been a bit of a rebel and very strong willed, amongst her kind this was normal and something to be incredibly proud of but unlike her kind she was also compassionate towards those that were not appreciated amongst her kin. As a young girl, Subaru had often hidden this compassion from her kin, choosing only to reveal it when necessary.

When necessary would apply to when she spoke to the men within her tribe for it was well known that Nyosei was desperately cruel to its men - to such an extent as to kill them as an example to trespassers or to poke out their eyes and use them for breeding stock. They were a commodity and very rarely were they appreciated for their wisdom and strength.

Nevertheless, Subaru appreciated this - or rather Douin as she was known within her tribe. Often, when the nights drew in she would approach her father (who had already been blind when he accidentally trespassed on the lands of Nyosei) and they would often talk. Those within Nyosei rarely travelled outside their borders and therefore they knew very little in relation to the outside world - however as a travelling monk her father knew much of the world itself.

Subaru was intrigued by this and would often quiz him in regards to places, people and legends until one day she questioned him on the deity in which he followed. For a long time he remained silent, before the serene smile crept up onto his lips and he spoke but a few words: "Douin, I follow none other that Byakko Seikun from the lands of Sairou."

At this time, Subaru was only young (approximately 14) and for the last four years of her life she had been listening to his stories. She knew of these beast gods, their powers and compassion towards the people that lived within their realms - particularly within Sairou but she had never had the opportunity to experience this for herself...Until she at last mentioned the peculiar marking that lurked above her left breast, the symbol of unity - Subaru.

Of course her father was at first surprised for the great beast god had already been summoned but reincarnation was possible was it not? So many questions and yet if the symbol marked hisdaughter as one of his chosen then he would have no choice but to explain to her what it meant and so he did.

It became apparent that in order for her strengths to be fully appreciated, she must embark on a journey towards Sairou - for all men, whether they be seishi or not were not appreciated or safe within Nyosei. Of course at such a young age Subaru was fearful, but her father's kind words and his advice enabled her to understand at least some of the dangers she would encounter on her journey whether they be bandits or slave traders.

He promised that Byakko would protect her and grant her the strength necessary to retaliate against such threats but other than that, the path she walked was her own.

Well aware of this, Subaru made her last goodbyes towards her father - but surprisingly not her mother and once again, within the darkest hours of the night, she took her leave and headed towards Sairou. It was within Sairou that she would hone her skills, develop various styles of 'handling' problematic men and acquire a deeper understanding of city life and the problems it entailed.

...The memories that trangressed after the initial entry into Sairou are blurred however as though blocked from view by an unseen barrier. [This is the part where the barrier interrupted last time. 3nodding ]

[***Tatara***]

Tatara's existance was peaceful. Born and brought up upon a small farm on the outskirts of the deserts of Sairou he was loved and cared for as any child should be. He had no other siblings for his mother lacked the strength to bear another child but nevertheless the family was happy, for not only did they have a child - but he was a boy.

Unfortunately he was prone to bouts of extreme illness, often brought about by overexertion - one in particular was when he took the opportunity to swim within one of the rivers and ended up with pneumonia, or at least a form of it. This of course, was terribly upsetting for the boy and he had no way of joining in the fun of those around him for if he grew to tired...he would grow weak and fall ill.

It was because of this, that he turned his attentions to caring for the crops and numerous other types of animal and plant life upon the farm. Not surprisingly, he was excellent at this and they thrived under his care. He began to love them, choosing to speak to them for he believed they understood him and one day they spoke back. At first, he was petrified by this but it soon became a comfort to him and he embraced his new found talent - unaware that this was the beginning of something greater.

Over the next few years, he began to speak further with these walks of life and he began to persuade them to grow taller, grow faster and even to come into bloom long before they should have been ready. His parents witnessed all this and they had heard the legends of the beast gods and their seishi. It was his mother however, who took the liberty of addressing the situation by telling him tales of the wonders that lay within the city of Sairou - the great gardens, the beautiful shrines and the variety of life that lived there.

She persuaded her son to travel there, she persuaded him to see the sights of his homeland and to learn to love them as so many did at his age and he did set out upon his journey, taking only the necessary provisions along with him.

Within the desert, he encountered a great many plants and animals that he had never had the opporutnity to see before, his mother was right and he soon desired to see more, hear their stories and his desire to reach Sairou grew daily.

The desert is large however and it was approximately two months on foot (due to being cautious of overexertion) that he reached the city and it was a marvel. The white washed buildings shone bright in the bright sky while the fountains of water (supplied by underground rivers and wells) fed the lush plantlife within. The city bustled with many a wanderer and local, each haggling for peculiar items that you would receive nowhere else but within Sairou - to him it was a sight to behold.

But there was one thing, that intrigued him most and that was the large shrine upon the top of the mountainside in which Sairou was rested against. It would rival even the palace grounds itself in size and magnificence, gazing down upon the city with 'watchful eyes' - protecting each citizen acordingly. The temple of Byakko, a temple that he wished to see.

It was within this temple that he first heard the call of Byakko Seikun, not from Byakko himself so to speak but from the large white tigers that lounged around within it. Noble, intelligent and full of wisdom, these creatures would gaze towards a visitor for a long time before stating their recognision, which they did immediately in regards to Tatara. They called his name, they even led him towards the centre most point of the shrine where the statue of the platinum tiger lay and upon entering the symbol appeared at last on his hand.

He knew his place and it would be another year before he would speak with the monks in regards to his illness and when he did so, they would bestow upon him the earring that Nakago now held in his hand. It would combat the illness, allow him to live a normal life and to develop his skills under the watchful eyes of the white tiger himself. He would thrive under the tuition and accept Sairou as a second home...but it would be another three years before he would encounter Subaru on her way to Kutou...

Nevertheless, with a sigh she slumped her shoulders and began to wade her way through the forest, her mind attempting to think back to the tales that her father had told her.

Unfortunately, she couldn't distinguish between one forest and another...she truly missed him, how long had it been? Only four years but she still missed his stories and his dry remarks in regards to her mother. A tyrant in herself, her mother had been someone that even Subaru disapproved of, choosing to remain with her father rather than to spend too long with her mother - her mother gave her a terrible headache.

"Oi..." Subaru murmured sadly as she took a seat on a fallen log and balanced her chin in cupped hands. Where did she go from here...?

"That is your choice and your choice only," Tokaki replied softly and closed his eyes, his head bowing slightly as he sank into his own thoughts. He should have seen this coming but evidently this was something he hadn't forseen. He was well aware that the earring was extremely important to Tatara and his health however in risking an attack on this man he could only bring about harm.

"Take your time," He added, shaking his head as he lifted a hand to brush through his hair. Tired from his numerous 'jumps' across the continent, he was in no condition to teleport out again until he had recovered some of his strength. With that in mind he calmly turned his back to Tenkou and began to walk down the corridor - he would play it cool for a little while. Someone was bound to slip up, otherwise Tatara would fall.

"Byakko why do you do this?" he mumbled to himself in a sad tone.

Did someone just call her? Subaru grimaced and shook her head, nay she doubted it was for her. Most likely it was something to do with the trio behind her, probably referring to the girl that was with them - she really was an exiteable one wasn't she? Speaking of which.

Subaru frowned as she thought back to the girl in question, she had been wearing the strangest clothes, where was she from? She continued to dwell on this thought until her eyes widened with a faint realisation - she couldn't be a priestess could she?!
