Ako stared, frightened, at Father Michael. He pushed back his hair and realized that through the whole day he was still wearing the uniform that was torn to shreds. Ako kept staring and spontaneously hugged him. Father Michael seemed surprised and after a moment, he hugged her back. Ako was crying again, "I'm so glad that you're still alive!"

Father Michael held her there for a moment. "I'm not going anywhere," he murmured. He held her closer and then released her. "Go to bed now Ako, I need to talk to Saro." Ako nodded and stood up, leaving Father Michael to talk to Saro. Father Michael only wanted to question her on what she knew about Akarni and alter. He could care less if she found out more about the files he had in the basement. He turned around to face Saro, "Follow me," he stated. He had to show her the knife that he had obtained many years ago from Akarni.

She nodded hesitantly, wondering why she almost always ended up getting interogated about what she knew whereever she went. Through the open window in the next room, she heard a lone wolf's howl, and she looked in that general direction. "Just don't get killed...." she whispered after a moment, just long enough to figure out what had been meant.

Father Michael slipped over to a filing cabinet in the corner of the room. From it he prodused a knife. It was a simple knife, except for on the blade it bore a blue flame that seemed to come alive the closer it got to Saro. He stared at her coldy, turned around, and sheathed it. "This knife was found embedded in my sister, and I can only guess that it killed my mother who was laying across from her, but what I want to know is why it glows when it's around anyone of your blood." He placed the knife back into the drawer and flipped back around, his eyes steely and cold. He lifted his hand and closed the cellar door. It slammed shut with a thump and a c***k. "Now tell me, Saro. Who are the people that you have killed?"

Ako had not fallen asleep yet when she heard the cellar door slam shut. Frightened, she pushed back the covers and tiptoed down to the basement door. She tried to open in, but it was held by a force. She could hear Father Michael speaking in a harsh tone to someone, so she pressed her ear to the door.

She sighed, letting her gaze drop to the floor before returning to his eyes. "Let me ask you this first. If a child is raised by pirates and killers, she grows to become one herself. Is it beoming a killer her fault, not having known anything else? Is it her fault for doing what she thought was perfectly aceptable? Or should she be expected to randomly come up with the idea of mercy, when she lives with cold-hearted men?" she asked quietly.

Father Michael flipped back around in rage and fury that she was right. He inwardly screamed in frustration and turned around, all sorts of nice. He took the chair from the desk and offered it to her. He smiled and went back to the filing cabinets. He pulled out two pictures to show to Saro. "I hope you're being honest with me..." He muttered under his breath.

Ako listened, knowing that something wasn't right about how Father Michael sounded. She knew he was a kind man that would never act in such a way. She then realized that she shouldn't say anything when she herself acted dispondent at times. She shook her head and continued to listen.

She ignored the chair, then forced a faint smile. "I know you're furious, you don't have to hide behind a smile." she remarked, before continueing. "Yes, I killed them. No, I can't remember how many others. I did as i was told, appearing the innocent child who escaped the pirates. Then, well, you can figure out the rest. Like Akarni said, no one would think a child could do such things." she admitted, her voice quiet, her head hung. She took the pictures, but didn't look at them, but looked up to him. "What did you mean, around anyone of my blood? I remember nothing of my family, the...." she forced herself to stop, biting her tounge. "Akarni supressed them when he let me leave the ship, two years ago. I only remember scattered things, mostly things that I've done."

The pictures he had contained women who both bore the blue flame. One bore it on her wrist and the other, on her upper thigh. They were lying in pools of blood, their eyes lifeless. Father Michael wanted to know why Saro had killed people of her own, if she had done it. He spoke, ignoring her first comment, "You may not remember, but I need you to do all that you can. Do you know these women? They were found in the town square," he paused, "dead." He let the note of his words hang in the air for a moment watching her eyes for any conotation of emotion.

Ako listened intently, but it was hard to hear. She was becoming more frightened as the interogation between Father Michael and Saro continued. With fear she rose to her feet and took a step back, but suddenly she was in darkness.

Ako's alternate ego had taken over and wanted to find out more about the alter. She had seen such works performed before and took it upon herself to take over Ako's body to find out what she could. She crept up the stairs to Father Michael's room and peered in. The windows were secured and a candle was burning dimly on the alter. It hadn't been put out yet, so she sniffed the smoke. It smelled of the wood. She peered at the wax that dripped over, instead of staying wax it formed into small beads of leaves. She frowned and expelled the objects from the alter. They disappeared instantly. To her surprise, one beaded leaf stayed, and she picked up, fingering it. She dropped it into a pouch that Ako always carried at her side. With that she allowed Ako to take over again.

Ako found herself in Father Michael's room, lying on the bed. She sat up, frightened, but then her head began to sear with pain. She reached up and pulled at her hair, trying to push away the pain. She let out a soft cry as her back ripped open again. Her eyes would no longer produce tears, but her soul ached. She then passed out, for her wings had never been produced more that once in a day, and she couldn't handle the pain.

"I didn't do it, I know that's what you're asking. I haven't done anything in two years, with the exception of what I was blamed for in Mysirac." she looked closer at them, then blinked, hoping she was seeing things. "Takari?" she asked, then looked back up to him. "I don't know the girl, but Takari was the only other woman on the ship, but she had left a few years before I did... I'm not sure why Akarni let her, or me, leave though. Generally the only escape from his ship is death, or you have to live with his brand if you do get away."

Father Michael was leaning up against the was but pushed off once he heard that Saro knew who Takari was. He rushed over to the picture of Takari and asked, hastely, "You know this woman, what do you remember of her?" Father Michael said, his head swerving for answers. His mind was racing and ultimately, the walls of the house and the softness of Ako's cry kept both Saro and Father Michael from hearing it. So, Father Michael continued his interogation, that had led him to find out more that he could ever want. He was so close to finding out the past of his wife, but something at the edge of his mind was telling him to stop the interogation, he didn't need to know, but he continued with an almost feverish passion. It was unlinke him, and the side of the rook that he hated so much seemed to possess him like the spirite he had to excorcise.

Ako slept on the comforters, her back bleeding into the soft blankets. Her face was soft as if she felt no pain this time, and she almost seemed to have a smile. But the smile wasn't from not feeling the pain, it was from the dream. Ako did not know if it was from her past or just a fantasy to comfort her, but she was glad to be in it. She smiled gently about a mother that cared for her and hugged her gently. Someone that cared for her. Her mother, like her, had great white wings and when she would hug Ako the feathers would brush against her cheeks. Ako then saw a gruff man that stalked in, the woman's wings disappeared in fear and the woman held Ako to her chest. The man began to berate the mother. Ako began to turn in her sleep at the sight and finally everything went dim in her dream. She awoke, wondering, was this her past, or was it just a fantasy?

"She was... The one you always went to if you needed help, even if it was just a shoulder to cry on. She hated the carnage that Akarni and the rest of the crew loved, and pulled me away from it, making excusses to keep me with her below the deck. She was there for as long as I can remember, which isn't very long, but still. Most the others saw her, and me once I was older than 13, as a source of intertainment, not as a person. But Akarni was always more lenient with her, and me, than the other crew. It wasn't just because we were the only girls on a ship of men, there was some other reason, I just don't remember what...."

Father Michael stared into Saro's eyes with intense passion, hoping for one hint of his wife. What Saro discribed was exactly what she was like to him and his 2 year old daughter that was slaughtered with her. Seeing that Saro didn't remember he backed away, letting her hold onto the pictures for a moment longer. He stepped to the desk and pulled out a picture from the drawer. It showed Takari gardening and his young daughter sitting in the grass, still sucking her thumb. Forgetting that Saro was there, he slumped over the desk and stared lovingly at the picture.

Ako held her head and saw the blood, in a fever she rushed from the room and into her own. She slipped into bed, hoping that Father Michael wouldn't be mad like the man that was in her dream. She hid under her blankets and pillows, fearing that the kind woman would be hurt more.

She walked over to him, setting the picture gently on his desk, and looked at the picture he held. "Your wife and daughter, weren't they?" she asked quietly, managing to keep the sympathy from her voice. She hated that they were dead, and even more so that they were both killed by Akari. She recognized how it had been done, that clear to her even in the picture. She's seen his murders for years, and would recognize it anywhere.

With sudden gusto, he jumped from his postion and ran up the cellar stairs and into the living room. He did not care what Saro did because he knew that it wouldn't matter anyways. Instead he ran up to his room, and saw his bed drnched in blood. In fear he sprinted to Ako's room to see her hiding under the blankets, her hair hanging out onto the pillow. "Ako?" He called. Fearful, Ako curled up under the blankets and cried out, "Please don't hurt me!" With shock Father Michael stared at her and then went to her side. He sat next to her and cradled her in his arms. She flinched but let him hold her. "It's alright Ako I won't hurt you..."Father Michael was scared at how Ako was acting and didn't know what to do. Instead of calling for help, he just held her there waiting for her to calm down.

After he left suddenly, making her quickly step away, she took the knife from the drawer again, rolling it in her hands. It'd be a shame if it didn't kill the only living person of his bloodline. she found herself thinking. Perhaps I should... "No." she said aloud, realizing the knife was inserting the thoughts into her mind. She set it down on the desk and watched the glow fade, as it had brightened when she picked it up. She replaced the dagger in the drawer before leaving the room to find Father Michael.

Father Michael gripped Ako tightly, wishing that the nightmare from her mind would pass. He consoled her with small comforting words that he had learned from the order. Not only had they taught him excorcism, but they had taught the art of healing. He knew that healing Ako was beyond his control, but he still tried.

Slowly Ako quelled her fears and sadness and held Father Michael, knowing that he was the light that she had to accept now, and that her other self was the evil she had to fight. She looked up to him and said, "Please don't let her take you too..." Ako said, reffering to her alternate self.

Not knowing what she was talking about, Father Michael held her closer and shushed her words that seemed to ooze sadness and desperation.
