Arms crossed, Beatrix turned to watch Karu walk away. Leaves above her rustled in a cool breeze and her skirts and hair waved heavily. Her frame shivered and she closed her eyes. A frown blossomed on her face as her eyes opened and she gazed up at the moon, the full moon. So white, pure, and dark.

Unsmiling, she nodded and followed after him. Only moments later she left the brush behind and stood next to Karu, gazing up at the school. Her slender hand slid into Karu's palm; her fingers threaded between each of his and she squeezed.

Turning to him just slightly, she whispered, "Somebody was on the roof earlier. Somebody attacked you. You're wanted, dead. I'm skilled, but not omniscient. Be careful."

With that she released his hand and, straight-backed, shoulders squared and head high, glided along the lawn towards the school. Each measured step brought the looming building closer and closer. Its reaching shadow soon consumed her; what little light coming through the windows illuminating her crimson irises. Only steps from the wall she turned left and walked its perimeter until she came to the entrance.

Stopping, she turned to gaze over her shoulder. Softly she called, "We can't stay long. Are you ready, Karu?"

Karu only nodded as he stepped forward feeling the cool breeze brush against his firm chiseled body. Upon entering the building a feeling of nostalgia came upon him as he cautiously stepped forward through the hallways. He highly doubted his attacker was anywhere within the facility now, and put to rest his accusations of Ellette. He had been rather rash in his thoughts to think that the owner of this academy would do such a thing at all. He quickened his pace winding through the hallways with nothing more than an occasional glance about still somewhat afraid of another attack. As he neared the teacher's wing of the academy he gave a breath of relief, and looked back towards Beatrix.
"I can take it from here Beatrix, just wait here for me okay?" he asked softly not waiting for an answer.
He entered the room gently closing the door behind him. He hadn't noticed it before, but the doors about here did give off quite a bit of noise. He stood there for a second to let his eyes adjust to the deeper tint of darkness that shrouded his quarters, and froze upon seeing a young woman within his bedroom.
"Kyria," he silently spoke out.
He stopped himself realizing it was a student from the academy, Ophelia. He smiled lightly, and thought nothing of it, thinking she was there to speak to him of some sort of personal matter. Perhaps those boys were at it again, picking on her in some rude fashion. His eyes were still somewhat sensitive after the change, so he couldn't make out the dagger she held in her hands.
"Oh, its just you Ophelia. Whats wrong? Are those guys picking on you again?" he asked with a soft warm voice.
"No matter, I won't be here as an instructor anymore, so it would probably behoove you to take your problems to someone with more hold within this place," he said turning his back, and packing up a few clothes. He reached for his blade, and set it upon the table next to his half full bag, and continued rummaging through his dressers for items he would pack.
"You know there's an assassin here rummaging about the school, so I'd be careful. This anonymous killer already tried once to take my life...oh and hey...I'm truly sorry for what happened at the ball...I shouldn't have been there with the condition I've been in lately," he said without turning to face the young woman.

Kyria watched as the festivities started up again, fighting back the urge to cry. Such a wonderful night had been ruined, not by Karu but by the reaction of everyone else. Even after so much work by the leaders of every nation on Naroahan, it became apparent that people were still ignorant of other races. It was inevitable, she thought grimly. There would always be racism so long as two people were different from each other, whether in beliefs, customs, or even appearances. Letting her arms drop to her sides, she sighed deeply before moving off of the dance floor. She wasn't in the mood to celebrate any more, and thought about going off to find Gallaudet, who had seemingly disappeared, and talk to her.

And after all of what had just happened Karu had run off for good...or so she thought. Once she had moved far enough away from the dance floor and into the halls just beyond the courtyard where there was less interference, she could feel his aura inside the school once more. So he had returned. A smile crossed her lips, only to disappear a moment later. Although he had returned, he hadn't come to see her, which either meant he was hiding from her or, possibly, planning on leaving.

Picking up her dress so that it wouldn't get in her way, she ran through the school heading in the direction of Karu's room. She had to get there before he decided to do anything rash. Her heels clicked with every stride, and her hair began to fall from the style Gallaudet had put in it. Hurrying down the hallway, she came to a stop seeing someone up ahead. Slowing her pace, she noticed the beautiful red hair of the woman she had seen earlier that had run after Karu.

"Excuse me." Kyria said with concern in her tone. "Is he alright?" If she was here, Karu was no doubt nearby; Kyria had to talk to him, in case she didn't have another chance.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:51 pm

"Is he alright?" a soft, urgent voice broke the silence.

Slowly blinking, she lifted her head and gazed at the intruder. Deep crimson eyes shifted ever so slightly, hungry as they consumed the young woman. The elf from before, at the party. The woman Karu loved.

Letting her hands fall to her sides she stepped towards the woman. Then she leaned back and placed a hand on each hip. Her slender right eyebrow arched severely before she finally spoke. Soft lips pulled back with each word to occasionally bare straight white teeth.

"He's not broken, not yet," she slowly replied in her thick, old accent. Her eyes flicked momentarily towards Karu's door before returning to the woman. Softening, she continued, "You love him, no? He loves you. I saw that when he lost control in the ballroom. Tell me," she stepped towards Kyria as she spoke. Each word filled the humbly lit halls, their mounted braziers holding dreamily swaying flames. With each sharp clack of her pumps she was closer and soon to Kyria's side. With a glance at the young woman, she asked, "Just was does he mean to you? What would you do for him? How far would you go for him? I ask you because, should you love him, you must know that a life with him would not be the kind of life all young women dream of, if only once upon a time. And I love him, but as my little brother only. I could never give him what you could. But could you bare his burden? Would you?"

Shades softer than her hair, her lips curled into a smile as she gave a quiet throaty chuckle. Then she asked, "If you love him, could you leave all that you know and love behind? Just for him?" Then she sighed and turned around. As she walked away from Kyria she said, "But that's so cruel of me. You've known him but days, haven't you?" Stopping, she turned to gaze over her shoulder at Kyria, her deep crimson irises lined in speckled black piercing through the distance between them. "But he's different. And so are you. Do you, truly, need more time for your heart to tell you what it wants? Or are you deaf to its call?"

Ophelia knew what to do now. For some reason, he didn't seem to be concerned with her having snuck into his room. So she had been right; being a mere child had given her an advantage. Her hand holding the dagger was shaking, and she was trying hard to keep calm.

"I'm not here about something as trivial as that...and you shouldn't be worried about an assassin..." Slowly, Ophelia began to approach Karu, careful to keep behind him. Her hand had finally stopped shaking as she continued.

"You probably wouldn't remember. It must have been an insignificant speck in your past. But I remember you like a bad dream...For the longest time, I couldn't remember your face. Until I saw you earlier. Who could forget those eyes."

She emitted a strange laugh after the last words. In fact, there was more pain behind it than actual happiness. Shaking her head, she gritted her teeth and once again continued speaking. "Regardless, the night I am referring to happened when I was much younger, and still haunts me even to this day."

Now within a foot of him, Ophelia raised the dagger above her head, ready to strike. "Let me remind you Karu, so you realize why I am about to do what I am about to do. That night I lost the two people I cared most about, and it was all because of you." Putting all of her strength behind it, she finally brought the dagger down into Karu's back, shivering with satisfaction.

Leaning in, Ophelia whispered, "Like I said, you shouldn't have worried about the assassin. You should have worried about me. You killed my parents Karu, and I've been waiting such a long time to see you again to return the favor." She then pulled back as though she had been shocked, looking at what she had done. Glancing down at her hands, they were shaking again; she had actually attacked Karu. It felt as though the boy's hold had lifted from her, and now she felt almost ashamed. Gallaudet had taught her that revenge was hardly ever fruitful, or at least had tried to.

Stumbling back a few feet, Ophelia watched Karu to see his next move. If the attack had been unsuccessful she would need to run and hope that he couldn't catch up with her.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 08, 2008 8:19 pm

Karu gasped as he felt the sharp blade penetrate his flesh, sinking deep into muscle, and scraping past his bone. Falling foward onto all fours he was rushed with a mixture of immense pain, and memories. He remembered now exactly where he had seen that girl, and a sense of defeat seemed to settle in now. His whole right side was now going numb, and he could feel the warm, sticky crimson blood clutter about his hands now. He didn't retaliate though. He slowly etched himself up using the table in front of him as support. Turning around he looked as if he had been betrayed by an old friend, and reached forward towards the girl, but fell again onto all fours.
"You fool," he said ever so softly as he crawled towards Ophelia grabbing at her sleeve.
"That night I was not hired to kill your parents...I was hired to stop the man who did...his name...his name was," but before he could utter the name to the girl, he yelled out in pain.

The luster his eyes seemed to once hold now grew dim as he looked up once more towards the girl. His long silver hair now seemed a dull gray, and his creamy peach skin now a few shades too pale. The world they lived in now was truly a cruel place. He didn't blame Ophelia at all, but more so the gods for allowing such a tragedy to occur. He stared at the girl with pity now...
"That night I was hired to kill an assassin known as Jinkei, but I failed miserably. You have every right to take out your anger on me. Had I just been a little faster, or stronger...maybe I could've stopped him from killing your parents."

With that he released Ophelia's shirt sleeve, and struggled up onto his feet. With the little strength he had left he reached for the handle of the blade, and yanked it from his back with little more than a grunt. He plopped himself down onto his bed, streaking the white sheets with his bright red blood, and observed the dagger in his hands. No doubt it had to be the same dagger that had been made to attack him earlier. He examined the blade finding the engraving of someone's initials engraved upon the steel blade of it. The engraving read E.D.M, and he immediately knew whom had been orchestrating this symphony of disaster.
"Ellette Dorian Moncrieff," he said to himself as his crimson stained hand gripped tightly around the handle of the small blade.

He stood up quickly with a new emotion clouding his judgement...anger. His legs threatened to give way on him, but he stood firm, bracing himself with the nearby wall. He would not let this go unanswered. Perhaps it was time to pay Ellette a visit.

"Leave girl...tell Beatrix, my sister to get all the students out of the academy, and don't let them come back in until the morning..." he said as he guided himself along the wall towards the door, streaking it with his bright crimson colored blood.

Listening intently to Beatrix, she answered her questions in turn once she had finished speaking. "Of course I love him...and what he is does not matter to me. If I had the chance, I would give my honor, my good name, and everything I have ever held dear for him."

Kyria closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her chest rose and fell dramatically, as though trying to find the right words to express exactly how she felt was almost unbearable. "I have never had anything or anyone in my life like Karu before. I can appreciate your relationship with him, and I am sure you have seen in him exactly what I have and more. As for his burden, he does not need to bare it alone, and in time I hope I can help to lift it from him."

And in that moment she thought back to the moments before Karu's transformation. The entire scene had seemed like a dream, though she knew what he had said to her was true. And never before in her life had she told anything more sincere to anyone. He was her first love, and the most interesting man she had ever met. Kyria smiled for a moment, thinking back to their kiss, before returning to reality and her final answer.

"I don't care if I have only known Karu for a day. It wouldn't matter if I had known him for an entire lifetime-I would give my life to stay with him forever." she finished, opening her eyes. Tears had begun to well up, though none had fallen yet. Kyria took a deep intake of breath, exhaling all of her regrets and worries from her body. She looked over at Beatrix and smiled, hoping that she was satisfied with her answer since she felt that she and Karu shared a special bond.

[[I realize that I've disappeared from the face of the world, but I'm sorry! I keep forgetting about my guilds. Terrible habit of mine. crying So I'll do my best to get back into the loop.]]

Aurora was, as it were, busy as she had to make sure she was full enough on animal blood that she didn't have to worry about biting anyone in a trance of bloodlust. Oh, that would be terrible and it would only help to get her fired after she'd just gotten here! Granted, she was also late to the ball and such, but she couldn't help having to get ready. And putting on her dresses took time, as well as doing her hair in matching purple flowers.

Her dress was purple and black, colors made for the noble in her. She just couldn't help wanting to show off her beauty tonight. Too bad by the time she arrived, something had happened without her knowing. Was someone hurt? Oh dear..... Aurora, feeling so very left out, turned and skittered off into a clearing away from the scene. If someone was hurt, or attacked even, she'd probably be suspect just for having been missing and for the fact she lived from blood. Oh, what to do? "I do hope whoever it was is alright....." she murmured, sitting down and cradling her elbows in her hands, nervous glances getting thrown around her.

Clouse was asleep in bed as the ball went on, and after it as well, his head deep in his pillow, curled up in his blankets like a caterpillar. There was a stupid grin on his face as he dreamed, witch was quickly interpreted as a knocking came to his dorm's door. He slowly opened his eyes and tryed, but failed, to look at the door, he could hear the voice of one of his club members, but lacked enough sense to make his words out, knowing he wouldn't let him be, he did his best to call out, "Wh.. Come in..."

The door opened quickly, as a kid a year younger than Clouse came in, waving a letter in hand like a mad frantic. His mouth was moving ten thousand miles a hour, and Clouse couldn't keep up, and being a little bit of grumpy waker his first commit was a tad harsh, "Shut up! Speak slowly..." Still gathering himself he rolled over in his bed, and sat up, still wrapped up in his blankets.

The boy looked a little hurt, not use to Clouse being a jerk, but he nodded then opened the letter and said, "Its from my Mom, in Damasses. Bless her heart. Any way, the letter contains a small note about a beastile in red, with a spear running about." He said it with a mild note of sly hiding, knowing that Clouse would be over joyed if nothing else.

Clouse's eye's sparked open, his full attention now given, but only for a moment before his hand flashed out with what seemed inhuman speed for someone who just woke up, his eyes scanned the letter, then found there target, he read fast as his eyes let him, once, twice, thrice, it was her alright, long sliver hair, slim yet toned body, armor, crimson red cloak, it was definitely her, or at least some one similar enough to give Clouse enough drive to find out, "Damasses you said... I going there." His eyes were full of hope, and his words full of confidendence, yet his friend looked at him like he was crazy and shook his head.

"Look man, Damasses is kinda far away, its not like a hour ride or anything."
"I don't care."
"Your talking a week ride, maybe longer dude."
"I've been searching for years, a few weeks wont kill me."
"She moves like lightning, you've said so yourself."
"Then I'll just have to move faster."
"She can jump a hundred yards at a time, moving faster than most horses..."
"Point?"
"You can barely ride a slow horse, and can't run for hell, weak ankles of yours."
"I'll jump like her."
"Ankles, weak, you, ten feet, sprain. Get the idea."
"No."
"Your impossible, when you come to your senses I'll be eating breakfast."
"Have fun with that, just throw me my pants would ya?"

Clouse's freind rolled his eyes and picked up a pair of pants from a chair and through them to Clouse, then took his letter back from him and walked to the door shaking his head, leaving Clouse there to just smile and laugh a little.

Ophelia's eyes widened. Jinkei had killed her parents? Impossible...wasn't it? Then again, she had run into both men that night, and it had only been an assumption. Karu didn't seem like one to lie. As tears began to well up in her eyes, she nodded her head and squeaked "Yes sir." before turning and running out of the room.

She had made a terrible mistake, all because of that little boy's control over her. Ophelia ran down the hallway, at first unsure of where to find Beatrix, who she had never seen before or at least didn't have a face to name recognition. That is, until she ran into Kyria and Beatrix speaking in the hallway.

Running right into Kyria, she hugged her around the waist and held on for dear life. Normally she might have done the same thing with Gallaudet, but Ophelia hadn't seen her since that morning. So, Kyria was the next best thing at the moment. "Kyria I did something horrible." she sobbed into Kyria's body, starting to shake. "Horrible horrible horrible...."

After a moment she pulled back, looking at the floor because she couldn't look her in the face. She had seen Kyria with Karu at the dance, and she didn't want Kyria to hate her for hurting Karu...not yet at least. Then, she blurted out, "Karu told me to find someone named Beatrix and tell her to get everyone out of the school and fast, and keep them out until morning. I think he's going to find the headmaster, because the dagger-I mean something made him mad at the headmaster. Please help me."

She started crying again and buried her head in Kyria once again, unsure of what to do now; everything was happening so fast that her head was spinning.

Clouse had now finally woke up, and dressed himself. His eyes still full of energy, yet his body craving coffee, and to make it all worse, his room was windowless, so he didn't know the time. He guessed early morning, maybe the sun was up, he'd find out soon enough. His robes fro that day were his normal, his light armor and red armor body harness, covered by his large crimson red cloak, with silver lining, hand sown by himself. His spear was held on his back, the bottom of witch was sticking up at a angle over his right shoulder.

As he walked about the halls he ran into a rather odd sceptical, to him at least, Ophelia and two other women were standing, and apparently talking. He was unsure how to react, he could tell Ophelia was a little distressed, but she looked as if she was handling it, and he didn't want to stop that, but at the same time he had a unnatural drive to help others. He figured the best thing he could do would be to hang around in the corner, he'd just wait and watch until someone dragged him away, or Ophelia looked like she be OK.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 12, 2008 12:53 pm

The girl buried her face into Kyria with her arms wrapped tightly around the woman. Beatrix squinted at the sight of them before spinning on her heel, skirts swirling about her ankles.

As she walked away she called back over her shoulder, "You head him, Kyria. Evacuate the students for Karu. Enlist the faculty with something...fanciful. Alert no one to what's happening." She stopped only a short ways and then snatched a boy hiding behind the corner by his collar. She pulled Clause close, a punk in ratty armor with an over sized cape and metal poker. "As for you, instead of eavesdropping, which you were doing very badly I might add, you should help to evacuate every brat you can find, now!"

As she pushed him away she continued her brisk pace and turned around a corner. Windows lined the hall, iluuminating it with the moonlight that filled the night sky and dampened the countless stars that should have been hanging up there. She stopped at a window and gazed at the great round being. A clear red circle had formed around it. She chewed on her lower lip as she surrendered her gaze to it.

"I haven't much longer. Soon the Belore will rise and Ellune will fall. I have only till then. Be swift, Karu..." She closed her eyes and released a dep sigh. Her ghostly flesh blushed shadows in the play of the moonlight. Curling tendrils the color of blackened blood fell back as her face tilted up to the Ellune. "Be kind, omen." she whispered to the night. As here eyes opened her face shifted into a questioning glower. "A knife, a dagger? Damned girl..."

Karu emerged from the room paler than the light of the moon, blood streaking the wall he held himself up with. He had little concern for what he was about to do now. He would make the man who had caused this unfortunate turn of events to suffer greatly. He looked up at the moon, and sighed as he sifted to and fro, from wall to wall, hoping to stumble upon Ellette's room. He clothing was still horridly tattered, and his wound seemed to slow from steady stream of blood to a mere seepage, but none of that really mattered, he had already lost so much blood, and not to account for the poison that now coursed through his veins. His injury pulsed horridly with pain, and his mouth seemed to dry up as he continued down the shadowy hallways of the academy.

"C'mon old man...help me find his room," he said to himself softly.

Finally he came unto a large double doored frame which were engraved with the same initials that he had seen upon the blood stained steel. He grimaced as he turned slightly to peer back at the way he came realizing he had streaked blood all along the walls up to this point. He gripped tightly the dagger which he had been wounded with, and jiggled the handle only to be surprised by the door creaking slowly open. It was dark within the lair of his enemy, all except for the faint flicker of the fireplace within it. Sitting with his back turned upon a red velvet chair sat Ellette, a glass of wine in one hand, and something obsure from Karu's vision in the other. He swallowed hard as he gripped harder upon the handle.

"So...you were in league with him all along...I'll make you pay for what you've done to everyone here," he said with the horrid tune of spite engulfing his sentence.

Kyria nodded to Beatrix before taking Ophelia by the hand and hurrying down the hall towards the courtyard, not before turning back to Beatrix and shouting, "When you find him bring him to the main entrance; I'll meet you there. We will take him to Damasses where we can try to heal him." Most of the students and teachers were there, and those who weren't could be easily found. She was practically pulling Ophelia along; she couldn't help but feel a twinge of anger at the girl for having hurt Karu, but seeing her so shaken made her think that Ophelia hadn't been in the right state of mind at the time. Once they reached the courtyard, Kyria pushed her way through the crowd and up onto the stage, stopping the band and silencing the crowd.

"Listen to me everyone. You need to leave the school right now. You are all in danger. The school is going to be temporarily shut down. If you have family nearby, head home. If not, I want the teachers to take the remaining students to the library in the city. They have a war shelter that can house the students until the Academy is safe again." The urgency in her tone got everyone stirring and immediately doing as they were told. The teachers jumped into action, herding the students towards the door while others ran to the dormitories to get the other students. Kyria watched with sadness at the terrified faces of children who had more than likely not had any other home than the Academy in a long while.

Once the courtyard was cleared, Kyria turned to Ophelia. "We are going to get your things and you are going to follow us to Damasses. You owe Karu that much..." And without another word, she took Ophelia towards her room and helped her pack.

Meanwhile, Elette began to laugh. "I'm sure you will Karu. However," Getting to his feet, he tossed the wine into the fire, momentarily brightening the room. "My part in this isn't important. You, however, are our main player Karu, and it's about time you take your final bow." He lifted his other hand, in which he held a dark mahogany box "But first, let us take this outside."

Holding out his empty hand towards the window, he let out a large burst of energy that blasted out the wall, letting in the cool night air. With a wave of the same hand and the wall nearest Karu started to slide forward, inevitably pushing them out of the room. Elette leapt out first, landing crouched with one hand on the floor for support while still holding the box. "Come now Karu, let's not waste time."

Jun watched everyone rushing to get out of the school. His brows furrowed with concern. What a horrible way to end a night that was supposed to be fun. Rising from his chair, he went to his room to collect the few things he couldn't leave behind, including his mother's locket. Throwing his satchet over his shoulder and strapping his weapons to his belt he left his room, pausing only briefly to take one last look at his home for the past several years.

The last time the Academy had had to shut down was back during the great fire. Jun hoped such a tragedy would not happen again, with so many lives lost. He would follow Ophelia, wherever she went, because she was his family now and he had promised to take care of her.

Thus he headed for Ophelia's room, only to find her already there with Kyria. He knocked before entering, looking at Ophelia before he looked to Kyria. "If Ophelia is going with you, so am I. I won't let her out of my sight again." Looking back at Ophelia, it was his turn to be the first to hug her, holding her tightly for several seconds before letting go. "I am going to get a few horses ready. I'll have them by the main doors in about fifteen minutes."

Kissing Ophelia's forehead, Jun turned and rushed out, heading outside. He saw the backs of his fellow students as the headed towards the gates, some looking back over their shoulders at the school with frightened expressions. He was however impressed that overall there had not been a mass panic, and everyone had left in an orderly manner. He hurried to the stables, where he was glad to see most of the horses had been taken; he had been worried about leaving any behind. There were three left, including Kyria's.

Jun prepared the horses, attaching saddles and the proper gear. He also hitched a sleigh to two of the horses, thinking it could be used to carry their things along with a few blankets he had found in case the weather turned worse. Once the horses were ready to ride, Jun began to lead them out of the stables, looking up at the Academy as he slowly made his way towards the main entrance.
