I can't fathom how you can care enough to keep talking, without giving them a real piece of your mind. Just reading it, is painful. A little, but I'd rather help people understand then not. But if you find it painful- but you still identify with an ethnic slur- I'm not sure I see much of a difference. The Roma on Gaia have been working really hard along with their allies to not have the slur used on Gaia. Would you please refrain from using it as it's still a form of Misappropriation? I'm not quite sure how you explain a branch of any religion honestly if you could show me an example of how you would explain your tradition of wicca maybe I could explain mine sufficiently.

The internet is a series of tubes and those tubes are filled by real people and their real world opinions, beliefs, bigotry, discrimination and prejudices- and those effect other real people in the world by spreading that marginalization and privilege. Those real people have to deal with that stuff everywhere- there isn't something about the internet that is suddenly "unreal" when it comes to discrimination and marginalization. It makes it just goes to show that people who get marginalized experience it everywhere- not only in real life to their faces but also on sites they go to online to have fun. It means that as someone with Privilege- in this case the racial privilege of not being Roma- you can hide behind the anonymity that the internet gives you and dismiss and trivialize the stuff you do that furthers marginalization- and you don't have to look them in the eye or hear their voice when they protest and that means you can take your responsibility to others and throw it away because it doesn't further your privilege. I see it all the time- people telling me that when I get called a slur I shouldn't be offended- like somehow someone using the word ****** is ok online but they'd never say it to my face.

I am not Wiccan, but I will explain my path to you as best I can.
I am an Eclectic Neo-Pagan witch (solitary witch) and I practice a self made tradition. I first became neo-pagan during a very difficult year in my life. During this year, seven different gods revealed themselves to me (over the course of the year, not all at once) and they helped me through my trauma. If it weren't for them I would not have gotten my degree or the job that I have. After my graduation I decided to devote myself to these gods and I set about developing my own methods of veneration for them.
May I ask:
How did you discover your tradition of Wicca?
What made you decide that it was the path for you?
What makes your tradition different from other Wiccan traditions?

DysFUNKtional Duck You're being a condescending jerk to me because I trust my own life experience over you or Esiris's word. The name calling isn't ok- but that's not the point. There are people of different races who encourage, condone and even brag using slurs- but that doesn't make it ok. I have had to stand up for myself when people talk s**t and say ******-this, ******-that, even on Gaia. Someone with a personal experience like that would think it was ok- but that isn't true- by ignoring the different experiences even in a group- it doesn't erase the racism, it just plasters over the different stigma that people experience or sweeps it under the rug. It's like saying "Different people in [The Romani, Blacks, Trans-people etc] have different points of view" and then only picking the one that agrees with you- it doesn't change that others are hurt by it. And you don't have to take our word for it- you can talk to people in the thread who are Roma or read the links that show different world famous Roma talking about it.

But pulling out your experience doesn't change the experience of other people- and you're not willing to listen to that or other Roma because it doesn't support your point. I'm not accusing you of looking down on the Roma- I'm noticing that when confronted with the fact it upsets people- Roma on this site, you're unwilling to listen to their side or read what they have to say. You're also putting words in my mouth- which shows you're not really reading what I'm saying, and calling me a hypocrite for something you're doing to me in the same sentence isn't ok either.
