Jeyna took the bridge as quickly as she could safely. It had seemed sturdy enough when she been over it before, but she'd been walking slowly to make sure the ropes and boards where sound then. Now she was trotting, her hooves clopping hollowly over the wooden planks.
It was a great relief when she planted her forefeet on the far side and was across. Only then did she look back. "Draw your sword, sir knight." She asked of Ryoto and turned so he was in easy reach to swing and cut the ropes when the last of their group made it over.

Anima looked up towards Ryoto, soon hiding her face back into Ein's fur. Ein looked at Anima, giving a soft whimer, gently nuzzling her with his muzzle. He soon looked around, wondering what was going on. He moved his head, looking at the creatures, giving out warning-like barks.

(( I'm so sorry for the long disappearance... sweatdrop Have been very busy with Christmas things and all. The battle ended badly for us, no? neutral Oh well... ))

Aku had continued to fight against the wraith-like monstrosities, whipping her gargantuan blade about her in a desperate way. These things took no damage from her blows, as if they simply weren't even there. She cursed under her breath as she fell to her knees, worn to the point of utter exhaustion. "Forgive me..." the worn lycan whispered to herself. "Sainamu, mother... I've failed you..."
The darkness began closing in on the fallen Aku, uttering echoing whispers in an ancient, forgotton tongue. They reached out with their cold and heartless claws, attempting to feed upon the life of the anthro.
Suddenly, as if a massive eruption had occured, a great and powerful roar echoed across the forest. It shook the trees, the earth, everything and even the darkness turned to see where it had come from. In place of the small dragon Aku called her companion, was a much larger creature with powerful red wings. Somehow the small Maku had transformed into a much larger version of himself, but only more feral in appearance. "Get away from her..." he growled, lips curling to reveal gleaming fangs on white, deep hatred glowing in his golden eyes. "Get away or invoke my fiery wrath... darkness..."

(( Exactly how powerful are the darkness that we encountered? confused I don't want to make Maku seem godly, that's all... sweatdrop ))

((I'd gotten the feeling that they were meant to be a pretty big, possibly on-going threat that we didn't yet know how to beat. Thus with the running off for now to face them again when ready ))

Ryoto was on the brink of fainting when Jenya spoke, breaking him from unconciousness. After hearing what she had said, he nodded, slowly unsheathing his sword. Once he held it before him, he eyed the bridge and everyone who continued to cross it, soon slipping off the side of the centaur. Once on his feet, he stumbled forward, but quickly regained his balance by placing a hand on the creature's back. "I am alright. I can hold myself up." However, as his eyes fell upon the bridge, he soon noticed that beyond it Aku was still fighting against the creatures. "No! Aku!" Cursing, he turned to Jenya, his eyes glazed as pain shot up his leg. "We must go back and rescue her! She will be destroyed!" However, as he spoke, the earth suddenly shook, tossing the knight to the ground. With a muffled cry, the knight pulled his face from the dirt to look up at Aku to see if she had yet been killed. However, instead of seeing her mangled body, he saw a huge dragon rising before the darkness. "Could it be-? Maku?"

The darkness somewhat hesitated with their approach of Aku as the growling dragon rose before them. Then, in their hissing whisper of a tongue, the wraith-like creatures split continued towards the fallen humanoid.
Maku unleashed yet another roar, his eyes flashing with feral rage. "Back from her demons!!!" he growled, conjuring up a great orb of dark fire within his huge jaws. Then, Maku charged towards the darkness, the purple flame licking his muzzle. The great dragon soon unleashed his breath of searing flame on the darkness that surrounded Aku, instantly disintigrating two that were foolish enough to take the attack full on.
The darkness retreated as yet another of their comrades fell to the dragon's flame, hissing incomprehensible curses at both him and the girl he protected. Within moments, both they and the fire the had created, dissolved into the surrounding air, leaving behind only smoke, as well as a heavy coldness in the air.

(( Must go... sweatdrop I'll post with Maku tomorrow morning. ))

Looking back to see the crimson winged dragon looming, Jeyna asked incredulously "You want me to go back there?"
They just barely escaped by a flick of the tail this time. Now the small dragon-ish thing was a large full fledged DRAGON! As a child her mother had chided her not to stray far lest dragons swoop down and scoop her up for a snack. And though they were used like boogeymen to scare centaur children, it was not a wholly unfounded warning. Just such a thing had happened less than a decade ago in a village a few days travel from her own.
"Cut the ropes, man! The dragon can lift her over. He has wings." she exclaimed a little frantically. Jenya wasn't sure who was more of a threat, the three or the dragon. Waiting to see what happened she shifted nervously and hoped that her decision to come along hadn't been as ill conceived as it looked right now. Staring death in the eye, being ridden, burned, and dirty, her solitary sylvan existence was seeming attractive again.

Kent turned his head when he heard the sound thus missing the bridge by a good three feet. To him, it seemed an eternity as Kent flapped his arms frantically as if trying to fly with the birds. Then he fell into the ravine. "oof" The sudden outrush of air was due to a large column of earth about fifteen feet down suddenly shooting out from the wall bridging the chasm. He raised the upper half of his body slowly and spit out a mouthfull of dirt. Then, he painfully got up and got about halfway across the bridge before it started shaking. Quickly, he ran and jumped, crashing against the wall as the bridge collapsed scrambling for a hold. He caught one and hauled himself up the edge, grinning sheepishly. He looked back at the opposite wall seeing the hole where the bridge had come from.

((I'm trying to establish him as clumsy biggrin ))

Aku was laying on her side in the dirt, obviously unconcious from the effort she used against the darkness.
Maku gave one final growl as the monstrocities fled, golden eyes glinting threateningly. He then turned his massive head to his fallen master, feral ears lowered. The large dragon then gently scooped Aku into his powerful foreclaws and began towards the party on his hind legs, obviously having some trouble with balance. With three flaps of his great wings, the large dragon soared over the chasm and landed with an echoing thud near the others. Then, in less than a blink of an eye, Maku had transformed back into his smaller form, eyes more gray than gold. "Aku..." he gasped as he collapsed atop the wolf anthro. "Master Aku... please wake..." The small dragon's fur was absolutely soaked with sweat and his curly tail dragged weakly in the dirt. "I did it Aku..." he continued in the same rasping voice as before, laying his furry head on his master's chest. "I did it for you... to protect you... without... commands..." Maku's eyelids grew heavy, exhaustion soon taking him. "For... you... Aku..." he finished with a weak sigh of breath, fainting from immense lack of energy.

((This post will take place in between Kent's last post and Aku and Maku's...))

Ryoto turned from the scenario that occured across the bridge to Jenya, completely torn. However, he knew what he had to do. Nodding, the knight stummbled towards the bridge, unsheathing his sword. Kent was still making his way across the bridge, which of course, would have to make him wait on cutting it. As he waited, his eyes fell upon what was occuring across the other side of the bridge. To his knowledge, full fledged dragons were all under the power of the darkness. Because of their unnatural strength and flying ability, the darkness had quickly taken them under their control. However, there was Maku, racing towards the creatures. With sword still in hand, Ryoto watched as Maku successfully destroyed two of the creatures that surrounded Aku, forcing the other one to retreat into the forest. "Unbelievable..." With much effort, Ryoto turned to face Jenya who most likely had been watching the small skirmish between Maku and the darkness. However, seeing that they now had a dragon on their side, they would most likely send their own to hunt them down and take Maku under their costudy. But that was hopefully a few days from now. Smiling, Ryoto watched as Maku landed with Aku with them on the other side of the bridge. Within moments, the large dragon suddenly transformed back into his origional state. However, within moments, the dragon fainted on the ground next to Aku's figure. Grunting, he turned to face Jenya once again, sweat dripping down his face from just standing. "Since we're all safe and accounted for, let's continue our journey. The darkness will most likely be back soon and in greater numbers. We cannot risk it. Let's move on."

((Another clumsy post... but I have to do as much as I can... lol))

Ein slipped off Jeyna, pulling Anima with him. She moved back up into a sitting position on her dog, gently gripping onto his fur. Her wings unfolded slightly, looking around in the bushes. She watched Maku for a bit, feeling Ein move in the direction of some bushes. She looked up at Ryoto, soon disappearing into the bushes to find some form of flower or bud. Ein sniffed around, trying to catch the scent of any flower while still going through the bushes. They soon fell upon a small garden, but no living creature in sight. Ein walked over and into the flower, letting Anima choose which one she was going to get. She had chosen a few smaller flowers, taking them off heir stems, "Kcab teg su tel" ((There is a trick into reading that)) Ein soon turned around, running back to the group, looking up at Ryoto.

Aku's steed, Bushi, had run off in the conflict, being as the wolf anthro had taught him to do so to protect his own life should the battle turn ugly.
Moments passed and Aku finally began to stir from her unconcious state, the cold touch of the darkness slowly beginning to wear off. She whimpered softly as she raised herself into a sitting position and rubbed her forehead with one hand. "Strange..." she breathed in an almost sarcastic way. "I'm not dead..." Aku soon felt the small dragon slide off from her breast and gasped as she saw the stae he was in. "Maku!?" she yelped, taking the limp dragon into her arms and hugging him tightly. "What have you done Maku? Tell me you didn't... You promised you wouldn't..."
Maku's eyes fluttered open at the sound of his master's voice, the golden color still replaced by an ugly gray. "I... had to... master Aku..." he gasped, ears lowered in exhaustion. "I..."
"Shhh..." Aku interrupted, slowly getting to her feet. "Rest, my firend..." she breathed with a soft smile. "There'll be time to explain later..."
In response to his master's comfort, Maku gave a weak nod and did as Aku commanded him. In a matter of seconds, the small dragon was asleep and breathing in shallow breaths.
Aku nodded when she saw that Maku was fast asleep in her arms and gently bent down to retrieve her abnormally large weapon, strapping it back into place on her back with one hand. "We better hurry before those wraith things are on to us again..." she breathed in a deathly serious tone, ignorant of her own injury and weariness. Aku stumbled past Ryoto, careful to avoid his eyes. If there was something that her race was infamously legendary for, it was their hard-headed determination to avoid rest after a hard battle. To do such a thing was seen as weakness and a disgrace to the goddess her people revered.

Seeing how much the fight had taken out of everyone, the centaur wracked her brain for someplace safe that wasn't too far. The bridge would make little difference now. Since one of their number had slain, or at least destroyed the corporeal form of some of the Darkness's elite minions they wouldn't be sending anything that could be stopped by a chasm. To their left the winding path went downward and there were many caves. Maybe the very number caverns would throw off any pursuit long enough for them to recover a bit. If someone where scrying them out it may not help but the centaur didn't know how to counter that sort of tracking. She hoped that what ever was going to come against them next would use sight and scent and would have to check each cave that their tracks led to and held their smell. She could work a ruse with that that would buy them a little time.
Jeyna explained her plan to the others as started to descend the small path leading down the hillside. Here the trees were mostly cedar and the undergrowth sparse due to the rocky soil. There was less cover and the centaur worried about how exposed they were. A group of archers on the other side of the gully could decimate them with ease. Luckily that their enemies had been depending on the supernatural force of the cloaked threesome. If they'd sent troops as well she and her traveling companions would have been done for.

Aku quietly followed the centaur towards the caves, cradeling the sleeping Maku in her arms. Then, most unexpectedly, she turned to face Kent and began speaking to him in elvish. "Amin naa ilquel yassen amin quenedhel..." she breathed in something of a nervous tone, having lost her knack for pronounciation in the past years. "Amin caelwanwa saicoiasira..."

(( I could do translation if you want. sweatdrop I haven't done this in a very long time. "I am not good with my elvish..." "I have lost much time..." ))

((That would be nice. What wouldd be nicer was if you PMed me how to translate it then no one would know what we're saying biggrin ))

Kent looked startled for a second before he grinned. It was obvious he had not expecting anyone to know elvish. ((Now for random typing biggrin )) Kent was also rusty with his elvish as he had not lived among them for quite a long time,"Amin adlkfh alskgpow seso sopes quenedhel. Epse saicoiasira caelwanwa?"

((I did not expect you to speak elvish. What time have you lost?"
