The man's sparkle leaves his eyes. That alone should have warned this arrgoant fool of his folly, but obviously it was lost in his rage."So be it." and he taps the ground with his cane, the wooden shaft clicks and slides off, revealing a blade with an unearthly white shining aura to it. He opens his leather bound book and barks out a command word, the force of magic slams the man into the wall across the street. Knowing it wasn't enough to even harm him, he raises his sword in defense and says," One chance leave now, I do not like to fight, but you will easily fall if you continue your nonsense." As if in demonstration, he gracefully leaps a distance that a man 20 years his younger would struggle with, apparently he wasn't lying about his mastery of the body, to the other side of the street.

The force of the blow was quite enough to rip his robe from his shoulders, revealing the deeply etched leathers beneath which stood with the strength of alchemical stone. He laughed an unpleasant laugh, proping himself up from the tip of the weapon as he shook his head. "My, what a lovely display of acrobatics, my young friend. You are practically a little fox, you jump about so!" His smile waned slowly, drawing back over yellowed teeth as the lines about his body began to blur. "Now, dodge the lowly fist of humanity!" He could have moved, twirled his weapon, for the air about him bended and distorted as he had. However, to the naked eye, he remained steadfast as sharp ripples of metalic force lept from his standing form in a broad array towards his target.

Knowing there was no time to cast a counter spell, he takes a deep breath and calms his mind and body, to his eyes alone, things seem to slow down, he immediately starts to contort his body to dodge with missles that fly to him, he uses his blade and is naturally enhanced reaction time to move through them. However, there are many of them, and only 3 manage to hit him. 2 of them cut through his jacket, one on the shoulder, one on the opposite arm near the wrist. The third goes across his face and makes a cut from the cheek to his jaw. He stands and looks at the damage, "I would have expected better..." He immediately dashes in and works his blade and spells in a flurry of moves of offense and defense. Mainly putting his opponent on his heels and making him gie up ground.

In the hail of spellfire, and with his back against the wall, it seemed Caustus had little more ground to give; however, this may have just been a ruse to begin with. The heat was intense, as was the onslaught, but come what may, the tall man fought stiffly against each swordfall with full concentration on parrying each strike. He spun the broad blades single handedly, his other hand tucked away in the sad remainders of his cloak, moving in short, swift strokes which would be expected of a smaller weapon. "The master need not use his full potential against the student. I was assuming that we were sparring." He bared his teeth viciously, his eyes burning with excitement as he connected against the other's blade with the hooked portion of the zweihander, essessing the amount of force was needed to force the man back.

Athrogate has a look of utter terror on his face, as Caustus pushes back, trying to gain ground. He tries desperately to push back, only forcing Caustus to push harder to gain ground. Now normally, this would be the end of Athrogate, but the fce of utter terror was a ruse as was the desperate, but futile push. As Caustus pushed harder, Athrogate mutters the word of a light spell, mainly a distraction caused by a flash of light, but this time it was bright and blinding, especially in the case of Caustus who was staring at Athrogate. With blinding speed, Athrogate rolls sideways, as Caustus stumbles forwards, Athrogate uses his legs to trip Caustus and send him to the ground, Athrogate immediately straddles his opponent and places his blade at Caustus' throat. "Not so much the teacher but the novice." All the while keeping check of Caustus' hands.

Far too dazzled by the flash to retort, Caustus was now caught in a moment of confusion and wonderment as to this unexpected cicumnavigation of his arcane resistance. The next moment, he was on his back with the whelp's filthy blade to his throat. This was not an alin possition to him, however it was unwelcome all the same. His anger was palpable as a whipping steam which drifted from his body. With eyes locked on his opponents, Brother Caustus of the Black order began to worm his desperation, fear, and aggression deep into the folds and fascets of this stange cretures mind. He spat poisonous words on the edge of hearing, dulled in the numbing lull of his eyes. As his body lay prone, his mind-self wandered the reveries of thought; each footfall screaming in the psyche of his opponent. With averice, he clouded all reason and substance. The world quickly burned away, for he did not tollerate anything but his own mind to be. " No... do not resist... cut... there is only the cut... the blood trickles through the blades veins... into your heart... no different from yours... pierce the flesh of time and see what secrets I bleed...cut..."

(is Caustus trying to mess with Athrogates mind here?)

(Yup. Good, old fasioned, high level hypnotism. No worries, he isn't going for the jugular... though Athro might.)

(Nah not unless we agreeed on it.) Athrogates eyes go out of focus, the war of the minds begins. Athrogate isn't unused or inexperienced in this matter. Truth be told, he would be the more skilled at it, having been forced to fend for himself in his childhood. But this Caustus was no novice, despite Athrogate's words. He fights to gain focus through his eyes, he sees his blade, it's purity, it's strength, he focuses this in his mind, literally forcing Cautus out, a barrier is made around his mind, but at the cost of his physical strength, he cannot hold both physically and mentally, so with a slightly cut on Caustus' throat, Athrogate jumps up and away with inhuman strength and grace. Feeling this fight nearing its end, he says, "We are done here Caustus. I deny and reject you. You speak in riddles and threats." And with this he turns and slowly walks away, feeling hi strength ebbing, age still has its effects on him.

He blinked out for a moment, then sighed bitterly as the mental fog subsided. He was no longer on his back, but standing starkly in the spot he was once felled. It seemed that this one had proven his equal, but in an entirely alien way. He would be warey in the future of the peoples in this land, their strange ways, and irratatingly staunch resolve. He glowered at the wierd man, slouching on his weapon which was now sheathed all of a sudden. His tattered robes swayed in the gentle breeze as he began to turn away, his unpleasant eyes finally leaving the creature. "Diluded beast... if you care to mark me a liar and tickster, so be it. It is you who has refused to see; who lacked the subtle understanding...there will be others..." His heavy boots fell for a few steps, and then he was no more.

A small goblin made of ice scurried around and spotted the two men. It watched with curious intent as one of the men dissapered. It then just sat there thinking.

Kirru stood in his shop, making his special arrows, and selling them for cheap, they seemed to bring in enough gold pieces to make a building of gold, he was going to get a ring made, for ithilwen.

Athrogate sighs, tiredly at Caustus' warning and insults, too tired to argue back he continues on. He reaches Mark's Tavern and decides to lodge in there to rest and maybe find some work. (This is mainly for Tybalt aka Caustus, go to Mark's Tavern Sub forum if you want to continue together in some way.)
