I want a tattoo, but there are two things that are stopping me from getting one. The first is that it's expensive. The second is that even though I've moved away from home, I still care about what my parents would say, and they would be very upset with me if I did.

Duncan: Hiya. heart I am grown and still care what my parents think too. sweatdrop We say we dont but we do care about approval.

My dad got a tatoo but he was in the Navy so I guess I understand. sweatdrop I bet he wishes he could get it off, at least his shirt will cover it. blaugh Not gonna say what it is though.. wink

I bet it's a nude of a voluptous woman ninja

And yeah, no matter they or I do, they will always be my parents. I actually realized the other day that if my dad had been anyone except my dad, I would've hated him beyond words. Since he's not anyone else though, I can't bring myself to more than anger.

I've been thinking of tattoos recently, but I'm still uncertain as to whether or not I want something permanent on my skin. Until I'm absolutely certain, it's not going to happen.

My sister recently got some tattoos. Little rockabilly sparrows on the front of her shoulders, above the chest. They're quite cute, different than your typical rockabilly sparrows. They're carrying shark-faced bombs too:

Tatoos: Real life ones? eek *faint thud* I could never put up with the pain or decide what I would want..I would change my mind and there I would be stuck with something I would hate. sweatdrop

Yup, real life ones. *laughs* I've decided on two that are a throwback to my heritage. Thor's Hammer and a viking wolf head. Though, I might combine the two into one and put a couple of runes on there. It'd go on my right arm [inside of the wrist] so it wouldn't be able to be monstrous. I've been thinking about getting thor's hammer for around two years, so...I'm pretty sure I won't change my mind on it. xD

Duncan - My Mom's offered to help pay for mine. xD She's got two, with plans for a third. [She has a giant Norwegian sword on her back and two dolphins above her ankle.] So she's got no problems with me getting any - as long as they have something to do with who I am or my heritage and aren't way out there odd things [like barbs on my arm or something o.o]. 3nodding

When you say "a couple of runes", what exactly do you mean? Like just a few random ones or something? In that case, you might as well pick letters from the alphabet.
Also, what do you mean with "viking wolf head"? Do you mean the head of Fenris? Or Gere or Freke, Odens wolves? Or just a random wolf? Because those are the only things that I can relate to the Aesir, and there is nothing else that I can relate to Vikings when it comes to wolves.

Chels: I like the idea of ones having to do with heritage and beliefs. biggrin Its the frivolous ones, the ones just to fit it or to shock that I have problem with. Still, I could never chose just one thing..I am so indecisive. sweatdrop

Duncan: Nope, guess again. biggrin blaugh I am sure that would be embarassing though. sweatdrop Its not too big and is only one color, back then I guess your color choice was limited. blaugh I sure would have not associated with my father if he was not my father. Funny how that is.

pirate I am in such a pirate mood right now! I have been researching about pirates online and did get the Piratology book. biggrin heart I even found a small treasure chest and put some treasures in it...and I have a feeling that a certain dolly wants me to order HER first. She would be a pirate dolly I am sure. blaugh Here is her link she is a Naripon BJD and is a Periwinkle: http://notdolllab.com/shop/step1.php?number=186
She SO wants me to take her home! eek

In that case, I'm going to guess on that cross-thingy the nazis used. And yeah, I can understand that you'd never socialise with your father if he wasn't your father. I'm the same with mine. I hate his opinions with my whole heart, yet I can't bring myself to not care about him.

The "viking wolf head" is the same as the dragon's head. xD I just happen to like wolves more than dragons and so refer to it as the wolf head, since a lot of the places I've looked at refer to it as either wolf or dragon head. My arms aren't really big enough to do a proper dragon or wolf head and have it at all look as if it were meant to be part of a hammer. Which I'm still not even sure if I'm doing - I may do a wolf and dragon themed tattoo separately with no relation to Norse mythology.

On the runes - I'm not so stupid as to pick random runes. -_- I've got two books on the history of the runes and have several websites that I've been using to study the runes. I also have a set of runes and a book concerning how they're used for divination. I'm also researching runes and how they can be combined into one rune and so on. *shrug* They're something I've been looking at for about 6 months, reading as many sources as I can about them.

I'm not going for a godly meaning, though, so don't read too deeply into it. xP The tattoo is themed entirely around my own personal experiences and a series of dreams I've had surrounding said tattoo's design. [Which is still entirely in the process - I don't expect to have finalized the tattoo idea or the runes to be involved for at least another 6 months. Most likely, for my 21st birthday I'll be ready to get it done - and that's not until October. So I've got a lot of time to do my research.]

In the Aesir mythology there are no dragons. There is the Snake of Midgard, but no dragons. Of course, there are other stories, not related to the Aesir, that have dragons, but the mythology itself, not so.

And I've never, in all the years I've studied (actual) rune stones, heard of combining runes. It might just be me that is mistaken, but I doubt it. Maybe you want to check up on that again. Divination and the like came a longtime after runes themselves had become obsolete, so I wouldn't call them a trustworthy source for learning how to write with them.

Divination and the like came a longtime after runes themselves had become obsolete, so I wouldn't call them a trustworthy source for learning how to write with them.

Again, please don't look too deeply into my choices as if they revolve around the Aesir. They don't. My choice of Thor and his hammer reflects solely on his relations to storms. Storms are something I have always loved and have always made me feel alive. Therefore, I want to include storms in something that has special meaning to -me-. I've always dreamed of Thor and his hammer and so I chose to take the relationship of Thor and storms and make that the hammer the primary part of the tattoo.

The viking wolf head jewelry was originally introduced to me by my great grandmother. A full blood Norwegian. She got the jewelry from her mom. So my inclusion of the wolf has to do with her not the Aesir. [And my own personal love of wolves.]

On the runes - I will be choosing the ones that strike a personal note with -me-, not anything based on divination or how you might take them. But how they resonate within me. Obviously I will take great care to not accidentally write some nasty meaning in them, but primarily I will be taking the runes on how they resonate within me from what they mean or stand for.

I'm not using divination as a source for writing in runes, nor am I looking up the combining of runes as a way to write in them. When I study something, I like to follow every path on it to learn as much as I can about the source. Not do a half-way research only to discover in the end there was so much more I could have learned. So, when I read in two separate sources about the combination of runes, I've continued to try to discover what exactly they were talking about. I've gotten two books thus far on runes, so that I can discover whether or not that was a reality or something people are making up in the here and now. I study divination with runes because its a whole new set of meanings and if I want things that reflect who I am, I ought to study all the ways possible of how what I want on my body permanently will reflect me as a person. Following a lead doesn't mean I believe it. -_- I've just always been raised to research a topic wholeheartedly and follow all leads, rather than just focus on one small part of it.

Maybe my great grandmother screwed her tales up that were shared with her by her mother, since she was 80 at the time, but since she grew up with those tales...I'm hard pressed to think she screwed up that badly.

Once again, please don't think I've chosen the Aesir for some religious meaning. Its not about the Aesir. The tattoo is about me.

eek Luckily, it is not that. My father is very narrow minded when it comes to religion, so he will never truly know or understand me. sad

So guess again. biggrin heart

Runes: I read in last years Magical Almanac that one way to make a personal sigal or personal sign was to combine runes. It can take years to find a personal sigal that a person likes and has meaning to them.

First of all, I'd just like to say I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. I don't think I did, but you never know. I was told the other day that I can be offensive without meaning to, and tact has never been my strong side. Sorry. Besides, scandic mythology has always been a touchy subject for me. I don't think I said anything angry or mean but meh.

Also, I wasn't saying that you shouldn't pick the wolf or dragon or whatnot, I was just trying to clear out if you thought they had anything to do with the Aesir or not, and, if so, try to explain otherwise. I have no right to tell you what to do or not. Sort of the same with the runes, I suppose. Not my intention if you took it otherwise. (If it was about the Aesir just for the heck of it, I would've complained about the hammer way more than the other things.)

@ Em: Hmmm... If it's not the symbol of the naziz... how about a dog that is attacking a baby?
