With a flick of his wrist Nicolas had sent a doubloon in the bartender's direction as he had refilled Jamie's mug. Sea blue eyes turned to Nicolas's attention once more in thanks as Jamie then rose her second drink to her lips. It was like a calming medicine. Since her role as a mother Jamie had found herself more and more nervous and worried about her son. That was partly McCallahan's doing since it was he who had lost his mind out at sea. Cain had barely been two and Jamie feared for his life more than any of the men that had been slaughtered that day.

Catching the hungry gazes of Nicolas, Jamie smiled and allowed herself to slightly giggle, the strong alcohol having a small affect on her at the moment. The two of them sitting at the bar together reminded her of when they had first met. It had been in a similar atmosphere, he taking a seat next to her, and after that everything was history. They had set sail together as simple deckhands, but oh how they had worked their way up. Jamie knew it wouldn't be long, just as Nicolas said, until he would be a captain and she his first mate. She listened to his words and nodded, setting her mug down for a moment.

"Aye, I hope it is the last time. " She replied, eyes lighting up with the talk of treasures and unknown adventures. " I'm ready for the name I call in the night to be 'Captain' Morgan." A laugh escaped the female's lips and she brushed her wavy hair from her tanned face, her golden headband jingling with the motion. Glancing about the room at the new recruits Jamie then leaned on the bar, elbow down and bangs now sheilding her eyes. True, McCallahan should be returning and Jamie grumbled, knowing that she should be present, as first mate, so as to look over the fresh blood. Yet, what Nicolas was referring to was much more desireable.

" He better return soon and make his speech short.." Jamie slightly growled now, allowing her own hungered gaze to fall onto Nicolas. " I would hate to waste a perfectly good night in this tavern. "

With that Jamie stood and stretched, snatching up her mug in the process. " I'll gather the damned poor souls so as they will be ready when the Captain returns. " She spoke in an irked fashion, obviously eager to get this over with so she could move onward in the night with her beloved Nicolas. Turning away Jamie then began to make her way towards the other side of the bar, looking back only to send the male an inviting wink.

" Alright you scurvy dogs!" Jamie's voice rose into a slightly raspy, yet very commanding tone. She had perfected this since Cain had reached the rebelious stage. " All those who signed with the Falach Lasair, get your damned tailends over here! Your captain will be here shortly, so be at attention!"

With that short introduction Jamie leaned against a near wall and crossed her arms, making sure she would be able to overlook the soon to be gathered crowd. She would leave her own introduction to the captain, unless some soul needed to know whom they were taking orders from. Hopefully they would not question this woman. For after years at sea, she would not be one to tolerate someone questioning her authority.

Sione walked back into the bar, her pumpkin orange hair released from its tight hold and a blanket in her hand. She simply looked around at the lingering souls that were in the tavern. At the barking of a female for the crowd who signed up for the Falach Lasair, she did nothing but walked over with the ball rolling besides her to the spot where the new crew was supposedly to be at the moment.

Nothing about her appearance screams courtly or even a debutante, the exact way she wanted it. Despite the rags of a dress she is currently wearing, something about her just makes her stand out of place.

"Sione." Mikkal stepped into the bar behind her, a towering man, he stood out for entirely different reasons. Aside from the fact he was large for someone of such clearly human decent, his amber-gold eyes stood out sharply, and would have even if one of them hadn't been partialy framed by deep scars down the right side of his face, partially obscured by the fall of his hair, though to those who had been present earlier for the gathering of crew, this was likely nothing new, as many would have also seen him lay out a man who'd been chasing Sione, though truthfuly he was only finishing her earlier blow. "You dropped this."
The last wasn't actually true, as he tossed her the small cloth bag, but it was convinient enough an excuse, as he followed her with a look toward the woman and her authoratiative voice.

"Mm?" Sione said as she looked, turned around to face Mikkal only to have something tossed at her. She grabbed the small cloth bag out of the air and blinks. "What's this?" she murmured and opens it, seeing two different kinds of charms, one for carrying around or can be attached to a bracelet or a necklace and the other is a good luck kind of thing. She didn't remember buying these; perhaps.. Mikkal did for her. Her cheeks became slightly pink as she merely drops them into the bag and looked up at Mikkal once again. "I ..umm," she said, then choked at the words, sighing softly at her own stupidity, she turned and looked around for anyone else who had might of signed up for the crew.

Nicolas let out a low laugh as Jamie made the comment of calling out the name of her captain at night. It was a pleasant way to express her support on his quest to leading his own ship. It was bold of the man to speak as he did, especially with his lady of such a higher ranked position in comparisson to him. Seeing as the two often went up in rank with the aid of one another, her position of Captain's wife would possess the same amount of power as his captainhood. It was less difficult, however, to lead a ship of males with a strong male-figure.

Deep in thought with the new opportunity both Nicolas and Jamie might stumble across with the exploration of the new island, it took the man a moment to realise that Jamie had stood to greet the new recruits. The flirtatious wink did not get the man's blood going as well as her bold voice yelling out towards their new deckhands. The strength Jamie possessed with the power of her title was enough to have the man nipping at her heals.

Though at times Nicolas was bothered by the fact Jamie Gallows had reached a postion higher than him, he was comforted by the fact that his slight hiding had something to do with it. Aiden McCallahan had wanted to keep Nicolas hidden from many of his ship in order to keep discrimination at a low. To reveal himself would be asking for a great amount of trouble. Giving Nicolas a higher ranked position would also call too much attention and without the rank of captain, the crewmates would surely question him.

Leaning back and awaiting the crew's arrival, Nicolas smirked in Jamie's direction. The first time during that night, he mentioned his son, "Surely your stern voice has come from Cain's developing testy behavior."

Mikkal offered over one of his brief ghosts of a smile as he joined her, leaning against a wall as he turned his look to the officers of the Fallach Lasair. He was still without his coat, which was still draped over the much smaller Sione, which probably gave it a somewhat comicly dress like look given the difference in mass alone between the two.
He could have just as easily told the truth and said it was from him, but given what had happened earlier, it seemed just as important to bolster the idea of her as an independant woman. It would look better for her amoung the crew if she gave the impression of being well capable of standing her own ground against oncomers, though he had no intention of not helping should she need it.
"Thank you..." He added quietly, to be heard by her mostly, or by those with sharp ears for his low pitched tone.

"You're certainly welcome," Sione added under her breath, as she twirled a single curl from her hair around a delicate finger that looks it can't carry a single cannonball. She then gave Mikkal a peek through her mass of pumpkin orange curls with the seaweed green eyes she always had since she was a babe.
"I suppose your cabin is not far from mine on the ship?" She asked, her voice tinged with a bit of curiousity. Despite being a bit happy with the fact that her cabin is going to be slightly larger only due to them giving her a chance at practicing medicine aboard.

He tilted his head slightly as he thought about her question, shaking his head faintly as he answered. "I'm not sure...possibly not. Officers normaly get a bit better place in the ship than sailors, but by the sound of it, the Falach is quite a different animal. Cabins instead of hammocks. I wonder if she's a large ship or simply a small, fast crew. Either way, I should congratulate you again. I doubt it will be long before you're ship doctor in title as well as action."

"Doesn't bother me as usual. I guess it is better than my last room which was with slaves," Sione musingly said as she studied Mikkal with her seaweed eyes slightly narrowed and through the vast curls of her pumpkin orange hair. She turned her eyes away several times if he had caught her studying him. He seem to be a fine specimen of men, due to the surroundings of drunks and hard-core pirates.

"A flop house would be better than a slave hold..." Mikkal flinched at the mental image, having some idea how slaves were often treated. Some people might treat them better, if for no other reason than the simple fact that a well treated slave would do better than an ill treated one, as was the case with any man or woman, but the fact remained that to be a slave was to be considered...almost less than human. No. Less than human period. Even in the worst sailing ships, you could at least count on an ration of food, however slim, and an hamock. In a slave hold, you might count on the first, but not nessisarily the second, or even room to lie down. As a an object of trade, they were considered goods, and merchants tended to pack goods tightly. The more you could transport, the more money you could make, provided you didn't kill them all with plague or starvation. At his lowest moment, he'd never have traded places with a slave. A normal servant with wages....maybe. But never a slave.
He was thumbing the scar on his lip again, an unconsious gesture on his part.

"That is very true," Sione said as she unconciously watched Mikkal thumbing the scare at his lip. "You can ignore me if you want. But why do you... do that?" she asked, regarding this thumbing of his lip. Lovely lips too if her brain gotten subconciously stucked in the gutter at the moment.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2007 6:47 pm

"Hm?" He blinked, confused for a moment by her question, not even having noticed what he was doing until he realizes his thumb is poised over his scar. "Ach...." he made a muted, gutteral sound of embarassment and dropped his hand as he realized. "It was not in my thoughts." He admitted. "I don't know...habbit perhaps..." He noted, trying to sort out his own odd habbits. It was like pickng at a scab in some light, toying with it as though the gesture was meditative.
He couldn't imagine that it didn't bother her, perhaps even revolt her, and wondered if his scars made him resemble the men from her past. "I appolgize...." He noted, sheepishly. "It was....deep. I suppose, thats why." He could actually feel it on the inside of his lip as well, an thin raised ridge compared to the slight dip it made in the outer lip. "I didn't intend to offend."
He lowered his hand at once folding his arms loosely over his stomach to keep them occupied.
She was lovely, and the way she treated him without regard for his scars, which seemed so obvious and stark to him was a warm and welcome thing, though he couldn't see her envisioning him as anything other than a fellow crewmate. She'd laugh, or worse. Perhaps even scream after everything she'd seen in the past.

Sione's face seem to adopt a more soft expression as she watches Mikkal. She then craned her neck up, making her neck seem longer if possible than what it was already. "Offend? No.. more like making curiousity of it," she said, musingly as her eyes followed the scars from his lip, to where else that it was visible. "Um.. were those scars deep too?" she asked, referring to the ones on his chest; the ones that she can see and followed down where it disappeared into his pants. That's where her eyes stopped and quickly reverted to his face, smiling lightly in the process as well.

His face actually reddened at her examination, and he struggled with the urge to pull his shirt closed, to hide the horrors that, for most, he let stay sharply in view, as though detemined not to care. Her innocent gaze however made him feel exposed in ways that a thousand others hadn't been able to and he cleared his throat again.
"...Yes, they were." He answered, averting his eyes slightly. "But since I still live, one supposes I was in...good enough hands...even if he did not find what he wanted."
Or he didn't think that he had. It was hard to tell...he remembered little enough about it, flickers and tiny sherds of sensation through drugged sleep, until he'd woken up someplace -else-, partly down the road to recovery, and without the man who'd done this to ask.
Not so much to ask why he'd done it...he had a better idea of that than he liked, but to ask why he'd been left alive.
How was it she made him feel so laid bare? Like she could cut him open with the scalpel of those green eyes and watch what made him move.

"At leasts you healed well enough with the bare necessities," Sione murmured as she blinks her seaweed green eyes, it disappeared one second then reappeared with the same curiousity that was compared like a sharp needle. Oh her father always compared that, telling that she never knew the true potential she had behind the eyes she inherited from him, either for pure cruelity or of the kindest looks. Lucky for her, she didn't know enough to wield that kind of power over a human being. Sione looked at him once more, moving the mass of pumpkin orange curls over her shoulder to give him a full exploration of his face. "Your face is a bit cheeky and red. Are you ok? You not sick, are you?" she asked, blinks those eyes once again. Once she realized she was pretty much becoming soft with Mikkal, she suddenly shut up and just gave him several glances of curiousity.
