Estelyn YARRRGH! FIG wants Hamm to give his gold to Tae-Young--which is outrageous, because he didn't do anything wrong. Jacques Rogge is right; we should just accept the human error that obviously occurred. What will be, will be. That's the way life goes sometimes. Besides, Tae-Young may have received that extra .1 to get gold...but the judges missed an error during his parallel-bar routine that would have cost him .2. Well, even if International Olympic Comittee decided that Tae-Young did win, the precident is for an appoligy and a second gold. The only times medals are taken back after a meet has been when the athleat has done something to have it revoked (like cheat). Since it was the judges fault, to have Hamm striped of his medal is ludicris. But by issuing that request, the International Olympic Comittee has dug themselve a pit. They can't issue a new medal now, and the American Olympic Comittee is refusing to comply. The fact is: Olympic Gymnastic judging over the last few Games has been sliding down hill. It's out of controll. They need to take a look at the way similar events are scored and change the system. (Like the Diving events.) There were several things in these games that were unthinkable. (remember how they changed the scoring rules for ..vault? )

Deramin I actually think the audience had every right to snap, even if they did take it a bit too far. That score was rediculasly low. And the audience simply couldn't take the blatent scoring problems anymore. I think what they did was importaint, but I also thing the atmosphear after was such that they should had re-done the compotition the next day. Estelyn However, re-running the competition was pretty much out of the question. Maybe half of one's performance/play is on-the-spot pressure and focus--it differs for different sports--and so you can never guarantee that an athlete will be consistent. I was thought of that after watching the hurdles: if a runner looses her balence/ trips into another runner, that other runner is alowed to ask for the race to be re-run. I was thinking that the same sort of principal might be aplicable to a gymnastics meet where the atmosphere had turned poisonous.

Estelyn Ah, I understand. I think I saw the event you're talking about...a Canadian woman fell after the first hurdle and then knocked into the Russian competitor in the lane beside. Yeah. That's the one. Or the Brazillian marathon runner from today who got pushed off the track by the Irish crazy. They filed a protest. So they gave him a medal for sportsmanship for dropping it. But there's a lot more controvercy in Hamm's case. I think the American Olymic Comittee is in the right, here.

They're now saying that they won't change the standings. xd Yeah. They were cool. I got to see all sorts of stuff I've never goten to see before. Still diddn't get to see any fencing, though. gonk

Wow! I didn't hear that. Well, I haven't been keeping up with the news lately.
Fencing is cool. Anything that has anything remotely to do with swords is bound to be cool.
